ThinkPad X220 Info/Ordering/Shipping Thread

I ordered that model on 4/19 and my latest call got me an estimated delivery date sometime next week, by 6/3 the latest. The website says they have 10 in stock right now ... it's also 20 dollars cheaper now (1255 now vs 1275 before).

Hopefully this means they are shipping already for people who ordered.

 

Same here regarding the x220t from CC. Mine doesn't have a ship date, but there are a few in stock now on the site. I think they might have forgotten to ship ours out, so I am going to call and give them hell on Tuesday.

 

Just wondering why the X220 is not available on the Lenovo Holland page?

Also, if you notice, on the linked page, there is no entry for the X series at all? So, one cannot order any of the X Series machines within Holland from the Lenovo website?

 

I'm starting to wonder about these resellers that show up cheaper than everywhere else, are we not supposed to bother with preorders and just camp until its time to click? If I had known that, I would've set up a curl script to check every 5 mins and send me a SMS.

(like newegg is, they only do badly timed auto-notify emails. I think my hdhomerun preorder is the first time I've ever seen them do it in a decade of shopping there)

I ordered on the 25/5, and apparently Lenovo have just shipped my order to Oregon (Date is 29/5). It was a i7 x220 w/Stock 6 cell battery.

I'm an aussie so I had to order it via an aussie dropshipper called priceusa, soo I don't get numbers from the lenovo side for orders, just the tracking once they get it and finally send it to me in Aus.

 

Well it arrived in Alaska yesterday morning, and shipped out from there in the afternoon.

Hopefully should have it by tuesday/wednesday!

 

Both resellers still showing same stock counts this afternoon...waiting until tuesday to get some info is going to suck.

 

How do you tell which model on cost central's site has the premium IPS screen? They are all listed the same on their website.

Yes, the "Memorial Day Sale" is basically smoke and mirrors. Base price went up, % off coupon is more (15% from 5% last week) but the bottom line price was cheaper last week! The base price increase could be due to the 7200 rpm HDD being the only HDD option now, whereas last week it was part of the free upgrade deal.

I'll pass on the Memorial Day "sale" (not) and look for something more appealing in coming weeks.

EDIT: Looked a little closer tonight...the Memorial Day sale is only an additional 5% off for x220, not 15% as a I originally thought (ad states "up to" 15%).

 

I'm pretty sure it's the IPS screens, as EVERYONE is opting for them (mostly). I got the 9 cell, but no IPS, and mine shipped 2.5 weeks earlier than the estimate.

 

Which model did you end up ordering? Is the 4296-2ZU discontinued or was it another model?

 

I got the IPS and 9-cell battery and mine still shipped like 12 days early so I have no idea what the hold up could be.

Just found out today at 4am that my unit has shipped! or at least I got a shipment confirmation! I'm just happy I'll get it in less than a month. Will post more details later when i receive it!

 

My x220t has the same specs as yours except that I ordered the i5 instead of the i7. I also received the shipping notice on May 29. I wonder if the hold up might have been the Intel 160 GB SSD?

 

Can someone confirm that the factory installed option 160GB Intel SSD is indeed the new 3rd generation 25 nm Intel 320 Series and not the older 2nd generation X-25-M series or other? Can anyone provide the actual model number for the 160GB Intel SSD factory installed in their X220? Thanks.

 

Kaymack, when we receive our x220/x220t machines with the factory-installed Intel 160 GB SSD, will there be a way that we can tell in software which version of the SSD they have installed? I don't feel comfortable pulling the thing apart to inspect the solid state drive itself, but if there is an easy software solution to your question, I would be willing to check it out.

 

There's literally like one screw to remove to get access to the hard drive. I'd ask, why do you care? It's not going to make a lick of difference in real world usage for 99.9% of users.

 

Finally! My order was placed on 4/17/2011 with an estimated ship date of 5/17. Numerous calls to the "sales" phone number(outsourced to India?) was told time and again the order was delayed due to: Adjusting the warranty, battery not available, will ship on the 22, will ship on the 25th, etc. After waiting over a month, I went back online and re-quoted another order using the quote process, and mailed it to myself. The quote was $400 cheaper than my original order. (by the way, when the slice battery was available as part of the CTO selections on Lenovo.com, the price was $157) I cancelled my original and asked the rep to use my quote number. He indicated that the original order would never have been shipped, as there was an issue with the entry! Why did I have to wait over a month to find that out! Anyway, the new order was placed last Friday, and it shipped today. Soooo much faster!

I called CostCentral this morning and the guy confirmed that they got a shipment of the 42962WU (i5) so my order will be shipped today. Hooray!

 

Likewise, I called CostCentral and they said that it is supposedly in the process of shipping it out. Although my CC hasn't been charged yet.

Crossing my fingers that it will ship out today... I think this is the longest I've ever waited for an online purchase that was not a pre-order - 5 weeks and counting...

 

I called PV and they have "2" left, despite my order from april 26th not being fufilled. Remains to be seen if they manage to get mine done today.

So for future reference, don't bother "pre"-ordering tabook models, just wait until it shows in stock somewhere that actually ships. Amazon has it in stock at like a dozen vendors today...

 

Anyone that ordered from CC call the support line and have the rep reserve an in-stock item from the warehouse. Seems like they're not doing this on their own unless you call and give them a hard time (not really a hard time but simply asking - they are very friendly and helpful on the phone)



I got a follow-up email from the rep saying my computer is shipping this afternoon and tracking info should be updated by tomorrow.

 

I was just told that my CC order has an ETA of 6/3

I complained enough about it I got 2 day air, so thurs or friday depending on whether it actually hit a truck this evening.

Not falling into this trap a second time, resellers for prebuilt models: no stock = no clicky. You don't seem to get any real preference out of a preorder, and I need to brush up on my scripting anyways. (cron, curl, grep, SMS on match, victory)

On another note, looks like my msata 80gb ssd might ship this week too, will be my 6th intel between a bunch of systems.

 

No delay with the IPS screens. Unless mine should've shipped quicker than 3 days. Mine was a 6-cell'er So it could be the 9s.

 

Who knows, someone else I remember had 6 cell, IPS, and he was getting a horrible delay.

Ordered X220 on 5/28 with an estimated shipping date of 6/15. Just received a shipping notification today! Since I didn't order any accessories, I'm assuming this is for the whole laptop

i7, ips display, 320GB HD, 6-cell battery, no camera, no wireless upgrade (which I may regret), 2GB mem (will upgrade to 8GB myself)

 

lives in mainland us, I ordered mine on 5/25, and got it yesterday, 5/31. with x220 i7, ips, 9cell, 4gb ram, 320 7200rpm, finger print reader, camera, and no accessories. I'm loving the machine so far. btw, with the fastest shipping option (the $25, one i think)

How strange... you guys in the USA seem to receive the tracking number quite early, and it tracks directly from China. My Edge e220s left China on 5/30, but I don't yet have a tracking number. I called in today and found out that it is waiting to clear Canada customs, so it is already on the continent. Apparently I will receive the UPS tracking number after it clears customs.

 

ugh...looks like i may be missing the bluetooth module...time to call up support.

Apparently they shipped me two: one ups 2day, one fedex unknown.

Well, this week's "sale" is exactly $1 cheaper than last week's. I'm sick of waiting and I think I'm just going to buy it today. I have a feeling it'll come back down soon, but if that's the case I'll use the price protection.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any details about how easy it is to do and whether they're good about honoring it? Do I just save a quote and then call them up with the quote info?

 

I placed my order for a X220 tablet (42962WU) at provantage on the 30th of may. Because I live in the Netherlands and they will not ship it to Europe (Provantage does ship international but some items like Thinkpads are restricted) I have it delivered to my brother who does live in the US. I paid through international wire.

At first the order had a status of 'awaiting the arrival of bank transfer funds', since today this has changed to 'Your order has been passed to a specialist for special attention'

What does this mean? My guess is they received the payment but why does the order need 'special attention'?

anyways laptop arrived, powered up but display was blank, lights on display, thinklight and HD indicator were off/non functional.

Took a peek under keyboard and display cable was not connected. plugged in and display turned on. HD light never came on, camera and mic were not found, tried to install drivers but i suspect cables were not connected.

shocked as i have been a long time thinkpad user, and have recomended x&t series for business use. i have never received a machine with such massive quality control issues, failure of screen to turn on is a major issue, how did this thing leave the factory??

quickly called lenovo, will return the unit tomorrow and have ordered a new one same config, with price match. sadly will have to wait again....

im not a big fan of the 16:9 screen, hopefully in a few yrs the 14" models will be down to 3 lbs!

 

I ordered my X220 yesterday night, and the website has a shipping estimate for my notebook for June 21st? Did anyone else get some kind of estimate way out there but got their computers delivered well before that initial estimate, or is Lenovo's site pretty accurate on that?
