i highly doubt it since very few 15 in notebooks are getting 660m let alone 14 in. Even if it does get it its either going to be crippled or it will have heat problems. unless lenovo does magic :)

but yeah the y480 isnt going to have a 660m. Its for 15 in or bigger. that card is going in the asus gamer series, the gigabyte gamer comp and i belive the y580 is gonna get it also

    Y580 Dimensions
    15.16 x 10.04 x 1.41 inches

    Y480 Dimensions
    13.58 x 9.41 x 1.29 inches

You could very well be right, but the height difference between the two models is 0.12 inches, and the landing page for the y480 states those gpu models as options.

Chances are the rep simply looked at the DO list. I'd love for it to be correct, but since the DO list didn't even mention the 640 LE, well, you get the picture.

I had a few conversations with reps and none of them could confirm what the final specs actually are, although I assume 650M is in the cards since its on the webpage AND on the spec sheet.

I had two reps tell me April release is not happening, that it will come in May. Also, that it won't be customizable but will come in several options which will be consistent. So I assume the more expensive model will have the 650M in it, I just hope it isn't bloated with other crap and costs $1400.

The i7-3610qm with the GT 640 LE is 999 right now- I would suspect the upgraded card would cost in the 100-200 range. Upgrading the 670m to 675m is $100. Clevo 150ERQ barbones is $569 with the GT 650m 2gb GDRR5 version -no HDD, no OS, no wifi, no CPU, no ram - which would cost $500-$600. So $1400 for a y480 with a GT 650m is a little steep.

You forgot to discount the mobo and the chassis. I think if the 650 is offered it will be in a model no more than 300 dollars more. Only question is 650 ddr3 or 650 ddr5. If the top gpu option for this device is a 650 ddr3 I'm wasting my time thinking about it.

Wish they did but Lenovo's solder their GPUs on the MB. Hence my wish for an expresscard slot, thunderbolt or open mini-pcie slot for an egpu for your next upgrade and be smokin at the same time. Clevo/Sagers on their top ends, have the MXM upgrade option as they do not solder the GPU.

We've only seen the first model. All official spec sheets say the machine goes up to a 650M. Sales reps said there will be multiple versions of the Y480 - I'm assuming one of the higher end ones will pack the 650M. It's not even officially released by Lenovo yet, too early to call anything final.

Yeah, theres an FHD option for the 580 but Ive never seen talk of one for the 480. I just want the damn full set of options to come out so I can decide if its worth it.

I'm still torn between this and a S430 with TB eGPU. The Y480 still seems heavy for me, if I were to get the Y, I would swap the HDD into the ODD place..

Honestly, the big drawof the 480 was a 650M Kepler GPU in a small machine. If that ends up being a lie, there's no big advantage to the 480 over competitors, some of whom WILL be running the 650M.

But the 640m LE overclocked scoring over 13,000 in 3DMark still packs a whallop but why would you settle? 650M is considered as a first tier graphics card by notebookcheck. 650M overclocked would easily score 17 to 18,000.

Yall should consider 0.8" thick & less than 4lbs S430 with optional 2GB GDDR3 NVIDIA (I highly believe it would be either GT610 or 630). Now that plus TB eGPU (2.0 x4 ~ 70-80% of desktop GPU).

Starting without discrete GPU is around 749$. I think it's more future proof as you have TB

and you still pack the ODD for a caddy insertion with a 1tb HDD in there and a good ssd in the main bay.

Im quite liking the model, I do hope that the T430u packs a TB port, it would be one awesome thing if it does

Im hoping for a 640m in there, the kepler variant btw, not the heater gt 555m

Please, I hoping it's not less than a 640M in the S430 even with a TB port (eGPUs are going to be expensive). I may have to go with the refreshed samsung series 7 instead but it is hard to move away from the trackpoint.

the s430 certainly will not have anything better than 630m because of thermal design. and it's a business notebook not entertainment. tb egpu isnt as expensive a you may think, estimated price for the msi gus ii housing is roughly 100-150$ then add 100-200$ for which ever < 150w gpu you want. there you go

S430 is sounding better with my needs- a new 470 can be had right now for $749 i7-2670qm, 6 gb ram, 7690m. But i7-3610qm is faster than even i7-2920xm- and I need a lot of CPU power for sorting my database. Darn it! Where is Haswell when you need it?

I disagree, the S430 is just a bit thicker, I think, than the Acer Timeline Ultra M3 that is currently available with a 640m card. The laptop has no major problem with heating considering it is using a sandy bridge processor. I therefore see no reason why they can't use a 640m, unless they didn't design a good ventilation system for the laptop.

Agreed. Even though Ill be plugging it into a monitor to play thats too small to comfortably work on without a monitor I think.

The new 14" alienware will have it, and up to a x900 screen, but the cost is $500 higher than the Y480 (theoretically). I guess well have to wait and see for the final specs on potential Y480 models.

IB is supposed to drop next week right?
