Placed my Y580 order a few days ago. Should ship on the 19th.
Will definitely be back with impressions, pictures and benchmarks. Have high hopes for the 660m.
Right now debating whether I'm going to go through the whole process of doing a clean install.

Does it have 2 hard drive bays

If you swap the odd.

I asked a lenovo chat operator and his answer wasn't 100% straightforward. I really want to throw in a 64gb boot drive...
Oh and my order for the 580 was placed on the 9th. Lenovo is currently showing the ship date as today, with an estimated delivery of the 20th. -
Y580 estimated delivery on the 21st

Damn, I'm jealous.
How long did they take to get the Y580 shipped from the date you ordered?
My order status just says "released to manufacturing". Wonder how long they actually take to build it and how long shipping takes. -
but u can remove the optical drive and get a caddy that fits in its place that holds a second hard drive if you so desire -

greetings to all fellow Y580 information hunters, I have found this public Google+ gallery
https://plus.google.com/photos/101793131934224147604/albums/5752861622657524737
you can check some photos of notebook and screens of temperatures in idle and when gaming. looks like GPU even in Turbo mode doesn't have a problem with throttling.
oh and I forgot, it is i7 version and dude is from Poland, if you can you may even ask him for more info -

I just phoned up the UK Lenovo sales department asking about the Y580 and they told me that "the Y series will not be introduced into the UK or European market until the middle of 2013". Which I thought was odd as I'm sure I've read that it was/will be released in Eastern Europe somewhere... maybe that's a different market though.
I thought I would let anyone wondering know this. I will now have to hunt for a similar spec/price laptop. Grr. -

The pics on Google plus made the screen look quite reflective... sigh.

I decided to cancel my Y480 order and go with the Samsung Z5C. Main reasons were:
- terrible battery performance
- serious heat dissapation concerns
- 640M LE GPU
- glossy screen
- only 768 lines resolution
I prefer the matte screen, so even though the Samsung screen sucks I'm hopeful it can be replaced, and you can't beat 9 hours of battery life. With a 15" screen, it's only .6 inches longer than the Y480 yet the same depth and is thinner. -

My ship date just went from the 19th to today! That was a great surprise.
Estimated delivery date is the 21st! Can't wait to join everyone else who has gotten them already.
Anyone planning on doing a clean windows install on theirs?
I will be taking a ton of pictures with an SLR and will probably do a small review as well. -

It is annoying. I've been waiting for the Y580/Y480 for a couple of months. A lot of the GT 650m/GTX 660m alternatives are not available in the UK either. The only one I can find is the MSI GE60, which looks ok, if a tad 'gamery'. It's expensive though, £940 - which translates to $1,474 - about $300 more than it is in the US.
After all my research into different machines, all I can conclude is that the UK gets a sh*t deal with laptops. I am still no closer to buying a powerful mid-range laptop. -
Just a heads up the dvd/8gbram/i7/bad screen/500gb y580 is on sale until probably tuesday night for 850$ cad on lenovo canada. After tax the 1080p model comes out 300$ more. I'm probably just going to get the 850$ one (i return to canada in 1 month) and hope by then some third party store will carry the 1080p screen which should be around 70$.

My estimated ship date was yesterday, the 15th. Estimated arrival is the 21st. It's the 16th now and I haven't gotten any shipping information. Order status is the same. Says it's in production and that it was supposed to ship yesterday.
Their system is extremely slow and they don't seem to update it very often. Not sure if that's the case, or if my 580 hasn't actually shipped.
Would be a bit disappointing if the dates changed and I didn't actually get it on the 21st.
Have everything I need for a clean install. Only thing bothering me are the video drivers. There are no new drivers for the 660m. The ones that the Y580 ships with are very old. Could use newer ones with a modified inf file from laptopvideo2go, but support is never guaranteed.
My copy of Diablo 3 arrives today and I'm really hoping I don't have any issues because of outdated drivers when the laptop gets here... -
I'm pissed. I ordered my y580 on the 11th and the original ship date was on June 26th. However, this quickly changed to my relief to the 14th (last Thursday) with an estimated delivery date on the 21st. However, not only did it not ship on the 14th, on June 15th the ship date changed to June 28th with an estimated delivery date of JULY 8th!!
I'm gonna try to contact Lenovo support tomorrow, but this is pretty ridiculous for these dates to switch around like this. I wouldn't be surprised if it changed again, but I'll be damned if I get this much needed laptop a month after I ordered it. -
I'm definitely going to call them on Monday if I don't get an update by then. -
-
Hopefully no one has posted this already, but here's a video demonstrating the viewing angles of the Y580's screen (in a dark room):

It's the FHD version, by the way. -
Ordered the Y580 on the night of June 7th.
Estimated ship date was 2012/06/24.
On the 12th, ESD changed to 2012/06/14 with estimated delivery date of 2012/06/21. Was pretty happy about that.
Waited for a shipping email, nothing came.
On the 15th, ESD changed back to 2012/06/24 with an EDD of 2012/07/02.
Now I are sad. -
Mine still says that the estimated ship date was the 15th and estimated delivery is the 21st.
No shipping email. I doubt they actually shipped it. Guess I will find out tomorrow. -

was curious does the Y580 case have a faux metal finish on plastic or is it actually made from an aluminum/mag metal?

Don't know if people have seen this, but this is pretty good:
The temperatures are taken after running Furmark and AIDA64 (CPU benchmarking software) for a full hour. Looks like it's well within acceptable range to me -
Is the 32gb ssd a msata? I talked to two different reps and they gave me conflicting answers. Also, is there a msata port where I could hook one up too?
