I too have the dongle on my order.
-
My understanding is that the order status will not remove that piece until the machine is manufactured and the parts are consumed. So what that means to me is that until it is removed from the line, our machines are not manufactured.
This need to be taken with a gain of salt, because there has been a lot of (wrong) info coming from lenovo. -
I did as you suggested and called the US Sales department and more or less got the same story. However, he did say that the constraint wasn't just with the X1, it was with T series and U series, but that the part shortage had been resolved now and they would be putting out the systems as soon as possible. I think he was just telling me what I wanted to hear, honestly.
I also asked him why I hadn't received any kind of update email about my system, and that I had to keep calling them to get status updates. He said an email was sent out earlier this week to all customers letting them know about the shortages. I argued with him about this for about two minutes, since I never got the email and it wasn't in my spam, but it felt like a waste of time so I just thanked him and ended the phone call. Did anyone receive this email, or am I right in thinking they're trying to cover up their continued epic fails with this launch? -
The last email I received from Lenovo was my order confirmation on 8/20. Haven't received anything since. The two possibilities are that they are flat out lying to us or that they really were told that but things are so FUBAR at Lenovo that their own employees are given bad info. I think it's the latter. Those guys probably know even less than we do.
-
I was told the same thing about the email, more than once and I never got anything either.
I also was not notified when my original order was cancelled. Though I think mine is shipped because I rebooked without the dongle. However, I'm paying the same I was before, not getting the dongle, and not getting the cash back from my CC because that order was cancelled. So overall I'm getting less for more money a little faster. -
No, I didn't receive that "email". I think he is just trying to get you off the phone.
-
I think the email thing is their "new excuse", Folks.
Previously it was "it will ship by end of day today/tomorrow". I have heard this at least twice. -
That's what I figured. It's like these companies have never heard of the internet and think everything they do happens in a vacuum.
And I agree with you, SonicDeathmonkey (colorful handle, by the way). I think a panicked middle management structure is just filtering down a bunch of conflicting, inaccurate explanations to try to keep the heat off. -
So I wanted to get a bit of info from the sales side of things... not that it was going to make much of a difference, but here's the transcript:
Please wait while we connect with you with a Lenovo Chat Representative.
You have been connected to _Mark R.
Hello. Welcome to Lenovo sales chat. I'm Mark, and my Rep ID is xxxxxxxxxx. How are you doing today?
I'm alright, is there a way to order an X1 Carbon with a USB Ethernet adapter?
no, not currently from Lenovo due to a shortage, but we will have it available again in the coming weeks, or you can use a third party one like from Best Buy for example
OK I'll just have to wait a couple weeks.. hopefully nothing better comes on the market
i'm not mistaken, but it was originally marketed with the adapter wasn't it?
ok, you would not want to order the system now? it could be a couple months before that adapter is available directly from us again.
you just said it would be a couple weeks? not a couple months
right, we are shipping them out to the orders that were placed over the last month. but it has been removed from the web for new orders, so it's going to be longer for them. i am not trying to deceive you here. we don't have a firm date on when it's going to be on sale as a separate part. you can use any third party usb ethernet adapter though.
oh ok, yah my friend bought one with an adapter, but his laptop hasn't shipped yet.. was debating whether to get it or not
I don't think you're trying to deceive me, you just confused me
right, that's part of why there is a delay on the previous orders. we are getting them out ASAP though
I see, I appreciate the explanation! I think we all just want to get our hands on these new machines
Actually.. if I place an order now, could mine potentially ship before his?
then I could flaunt it in front of him, lol
haha, no probably not
well thanks for your time, I'll keep your repID in case I make this purchase soon! more helpful then the last person i talked to
ok sounds good, have a great weekend
My order still sits at:
Base Model (i5/4gb/128gb) w/ 2 year ADP
Order Date: 2012/08/15
Status: Order Received
Estimated Ship Date: 2012/09/18
config still shows "Option / Ethernet Adapter USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter" -
My status more confused than yours! How bad is Lenovo's information for customers? Remarkably bad!
As I wrote yesterday, I called the special Lenovo sales number for my discount (California State Bar) and complained about the delay and asked for at least a discount. He said Lenovo was not making discounts available, and asked if I wanted to cancel my order. I said in that case I wanted to cancel it and return the USB external hard drive that had been shipped already. He transferred me to the "returns" section.
There I talked to a very polite woman who apologized for the delay and said that if I reinstated my order, they would offer me a $90 rebate after it shipped. So I said, OK, reinstate the order.
Seven hours later I get an e-mail from Lenovo confirming my order for the X1 Carbon had been cancelled! I e-mailed the rep I had spoken to yesterday who had reinstated the order last night, but have not heard back.
So, I phoned Lenovo and got transferred to the same "returns" section. The polite gentleman there told me that my order was NOT cancelled. I told him the most recent e-mail for Lenovo and the Order Status hyperlink both showed the order Cancelled. He insisted it was not cancelled then said something about how they were changing to status of many orders to cancelled because of the part delay, when they were not cancelled. I asked him whether I would get a confirmation e-mail that my order was not cancelled. He told me that I would definitely get an e-mail.....when the order shipped, and they were shipping orders out sooner than expected.
As a further testament to the information mess, the phone robot asked if I wanted to answer a short survey about Lenovo's customer service. All I had to do was either press 1 or remain on the line. I did both. The survey never appeared, the phone line was just blank. They may not want to know how messed up their information is. -
Truly a mess... I hope Lenovo learns something from all of this, but they probably won't. In this day and age it is inexcusable to have such massive failures in communication, IMO.
-
I've actually had that experience, but realized that it's not an error, but a very poorly worded statement.
The statement says "If you would like to participate in a survey, please press 1 or stay on the line"
The "or" relates to whether you want to participate in the survey, and not a "press 1 or stay on the line" it start the survey.
Extremely poor wording...
And in other news, my order status updated again.. Ordered 8/14 the i5/8gb/256gb and, like many others, am grinding my teeth as I see people get shipment notifications.
My estimated ship date is now 9/19... at this point, I believe it. I've given up hope on getting the laptop within a month of ordering it. -
have you guys posted you comments on Lenovo's facebook page? I think you should if you have not.
-
Looks fabulous
A bit jealous though.
-
What would that accomplish?
Is this irritating, sure. Ultimately everyone in this thread can cancel their order.
There are some problems with suppliers in Asia. It's a bummer and the timing isn't great but such is life. I'm sure Lenovo isn't thrilled with this ether; and has offered price concessions to people who already purchased with stacked coupons that discounted a price that was already much lower than the expected MSRP.
This is the computer I wanted, I got it for a few hundred less than I was expecting, I'm having to wait longer than I wanted for it but the specs/deal is too good to walk away from.
Complaining to Facebook won't speed up the suppliers, and probably won't change the quality of information we're getting from Lenovo. -
Woot, my 8/14 order for an X1 with 4gb ram/128gb ssd just shipped. Shipping confirmation email came with tracking number.
-
Wow it's like 4:30AM in China now, looks like Lenovo isn't happy with the delay either
-
Because its better then complaining on here! At least it will (hopefully) be seen by others. And maybe save others the headache of what we are going through. If people know the issue they can either wait or get something else.
-
And its a Saturday!!
-
I guess. But right now the Lenovo site is showing an estimated ship date of 9/27 which is probably accurate considering units seem to actually be shipping now.
-
True.
I just feel that if some people are worked up about what happened they should voice their issues so others can see it. In this thread we are all in the same boat so it doesnt really help. It should also be known how lenovo handled the issues.
Anyway Im happy for everyone that has a tracking number, enjoy you machines, Im sure it will be worth the wait. -
Finally got my shipping label
-
I received my official tracking details, with my order having been shipped out at 8:54p Shanghai time today, and scheduled to arrive Wednesday, 9/12 at my place of business.
-
im getting pretty jealous and upset. Seems like most people got their items shipped.
-
Same here
Looks like they have started shipping the 8/14 orders today. (a Saturday!!)
-
Lets hope we get swept up in this wave. If not Monday is the last straw, if it doesnt ship by then Im canceling and going to really "give it" to some poor CSR rep.
-
Yeah, I think I might do that too. I ordered on 8/15, i7/256GB. Still says "order received" for me. Mine used to say "In production". est. ship date is still at 9/2 and arrival at 9/9. I love Lenovo, and I will never buy a non-thinkpad, but sometimes Lenovo just doesn't perform the way IBM used to.
-
Wow and you ordered on the 15th. You should be at LEAST in production, did you call them to check on this?
I agree I wont own another PC brand, Thinkpad is the best. But I have been thinking about going to apple, just because there is no other solid PC manufactures. I still have an old IBM thinkpad around here somewhere, its hard to imagine loosing the excitement of buying these black beauties. -

I didn't give it to the poor CSR. Seems unnecessary. The only way to "give it" to Lenovo is to spend your money elsewhere. But I don't think a few ticked off customers at the beginning of this production run is going to get the attention of the Lenovo executives. They are going to sell millions of units to corporate customers. -
I sure hope we do. My 8/14 order is currently still listed as 'Cancelled', as I see so many others getting their order shipped. It's only a little frustrating. I won't take it out on a CSR, since they have no information and no power, but it still sucks. And, since I've given up on Apple, I have no idea who else to buy from at this point.
-
Sure let's keep our fingers crossed
btw, the order status page seems to be down now. -
Yeah I called them when this whole fiasco started. I'm actually part of the Lenovo Insiders program, so I would call myself loyal to the brand lol. But in general, my experiences with ThinkPad have been far greater than those of other brands. If one goes to junkyards, ThinkPads are like 60% more likely to be working than any other brand from that year. This will be my 6th TP, and I think my new favorite.
-
So here's what happened. I ordered my X1 Carbon on the 15th of August, and have been waiting ever since. Turns out that Lenovo has been missing their shipping dates so I called the Sales rep who told me that they will be shipped on the 16th (and that it is highly likely to be shipped before). So then I told him that the order status page must be wrong then, because it said that the laptop was going to be shipped on the 18th of September.
I got off the phone, and just checked the status page, only to notice that the NEW estimated shipping date is 27 of September with the delivery date October 4th. Hope that the order status page is messed up, because if it is not, then I am one unhappy customer -
yeah you are right. But it need to be made clear that I am extremely unhappy and the I think lenovo handled the situation wrong. And the only way to do that is to say whats on your mind. Yeah maybe it wont go anywhere but at least I get my feeling out. Im not going to scream at a rep, in fact I think I am pretty polite. But if my order doenst ship I am going to be crystal clear on how I feel.
-
Dear All: I finally, yesterday, despite having read all these frustrating situations, placed my order. My order was initially a "cart" that i had saved, then i spoke to a phone rep over the last couple of weeks (very infrequently), he converted my "cart" to a "quote", which he told me was only good/valid for 14 days (the price seems to have gone up!). So, essentially, yesterday, I further converted my "quote" to a real "order/purchase".
Now, I'm not able to check my Order Status. I can't do it under any of the links on lenovo.com's page.
Would someone please kindly tutor me on how to check one's order status please? It appears that mine won't ship until the very end of September.
thanks in advance. -

If you received the email with the order number, you "should" be able to check it at Lenovo Order Lookup.
Someone mentioned earlier this evening the site wasn't working so your mileage might vary. -

I cancelled my order for a couple of reasons. Ship date slippage was one, and the other reason was that they charged my credit card (held funds) numerous times. I had to get that corrected.
I bought another machine that will hold me over for a while until the full holiday landscape is revealed from Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, ASUS, Dell, HP, etc. -
Well ... nice surprise, the laptop shipped and is arriving on 9/11! Phew ... 10/30 was a false alarm!
-
When did you get the notification? Congrats?
-
We are in the same "boat"
-
I wonder what it means when the Order Lookup doesn't work -- and it hasn't worked in a long while!
What large corporation would let something like that slide and not fix it pronto?
It is completely baffling who is running that place! Sheesh. -
Surprisingly, Lenovo accepted my cancellation request. I guess I made it clear that it was the second time I was doing it and was pretty unhappy with the customer service overall. I would have liked to order a better model X1C, but I will be receiving an x230 this upcoming week and I'll be happier with it.
All, enjoy your Carbon's when they come. They're slick
-
Dang.. Missed your 'boat' by 1 day. According to UPS, mine just left Japan.
-
Interesting how this 8/29th order would get shipped out 2 days ago, while a good number of other folks' orders, which were placed around 8/16th, still have no status whatsoever?
I'm a bit concerned because mine is an i5/8gb/256gb, so i am wondering if the hold up/delay is due to the Sandisk SSD? If so, i'd be screwed like those 8/16th folks. i just placed my order recently to boot! yikes. -
At least @canfrag's order has 256g SSD, and is shipped.
So maybe not a problem with SanDisk? -
Left Japan? Don't they usually leave from Hong Kong? I wonder if this has anything to do with the announcement not to long ago about opening up some factories in Japan. Would be nice if you could let us know once you receive yours if it is made in Japan.
-
not that i know anything about Lenovo's production facilities' locations, but...geographically speaking, it makes no sense to me for our x1c's to go from China's manufacturing location(s) to Hong Kong first, then eastward towards the US.
it makes more sense to go directly from wherever in China, directly to either Japan or Anchorage, or even Seattle, clear customs, then onward to the nearest hub to the end recipient.
for example, being in nyc, i'd expect mine to go from:
China (city of manufacturing) to
Anchorage/Seattle to
Tennessee/midwest hub to
New Jersey UPS depot/Manhattan main depot/ then finally,
"Out for Delivery" on the day of delivery. -
You are probably right about geography.
There should be another factor to be considered by UPS (not Lenovo) though, which is economy. If it makes more sense to stack up many packages in Hong Kong, then your package will go to Hong Kong first.
Similarly for other places, it just depends on how packages are batched.
