Mine originally left Shanghai, China to arrive in Narita, Japan and is now resting for a bit in Anchorage, AK, so it almost followed your pattern - just with a pit-stop in the land of the rising sun. It's weird, though, as usually things that leave Japan arrive in my state as their next/final stop. I suppose with China being the original ship from locale, the usual rules are null and void. At least things are in motion.
-
it makes sense that, should their plane leaving Shanghai had excess capacity, that they'd make a "pick up stop" in Narita.
Anchorage makes a lot of sense as a customs clearing area as it is a main airport for such arrivals from Asia. i suppose one can call it a customs clearing "hub" of sorts.
i'm just impatient as i waited a long time to see what the early recipients' comments might be upon their receipt of their early x1c's but, alas, that essentially didn't happen when i didn't want to wait any longer and finally placed my order 2 days ago.
essentially, it meant that i waited from 8/14th to 9/6th with no beneficial information/intelligence vis-a-vis the x1c's quality of workmanship, software issues, etc. Virtually no one received one yet, except for 2 claimed recipients on that infrequently used forum called forum.thinkpads.com. there are so few posts there that i wonder why those 2 recipients chose THAT particular forum to post their excitement?!? it's sort of like: "ooo, i'm so excited i got mine first, so let me see...mmm...which forum has the FEWEST viewers and let me post there to inform "the world"! Hah! Found one!"
strange, right? doesn't make sense to me. oh, btw, needless to say: zero posted pictures yet from them.
at least here, we have one posted outerbox picture from the guy who had it shipped to an address which he had to have someone reship to wherever he is currently. -
I didn't think about a pickup stop. That does kind of make sense, then.
Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, I grew frustrated and irritated with how Lenovo has handled this release, with zero transparency on their part, or even a smidgeon of Amazon-like customer service, and when my ship dates kept changing from 8/26 to 9/9 to 9/something, and then to 10/30? I emailed to cancel, and I wanted to cancel. But, oops, too late, it magically shipped. So, now I have a thousand dollar system arriving that I'm completely indifferent toward. Yippee.
However, when I get mine Wednesday, I'll post pictures of it out of the box and up and running if anyone wants to see them.

I went to J&R today (in Manhattan) and looked at both. Don't get me wrong, the t430s looks like a great machine.
But the X1C looked and felt awesome. The keyboard was perfect, and the screen was great too. I'm a fan of the red dot but I have to say that the touchpad was amazing also. In spite of its size, the X1C really felt robust.
So, while I still wish they would ship my laptop already, I will wait a little longer... -
Most of the shipped X1Cs seem to be the pre-configured ones. I think I noticed one that was shipped with an upgraded SSD. I ordered on 8/14, the first day and have not been given any confirmation. My ESD is tomorrow, 9/9 (sunday?!) and I'm thinking they're gonna miss the shipping date for the 5th time.
-
I ordered in Europe, the minute it was possible, on the 28th.
Since then I have had a confirmation email from them and no expected shipping date or anything on ther(findmyorder.com/digitalriver) webpage.
I emailed them a week ago, they said, 1-2 weeks then it will be shipped. Lol.
So, we in Europe do not even have the feature "expected shipping date" yet...
Remember, I hoped for mine in mid September...not going to happen...more like end of Septmber by what I hear from you guys...
Been using Tpad for 13 years now...but seriously, if another laptop manufacturer had a trackpoint.... -
-
thx so much for the heads up and the confirmation. -
-
Yes, I too am especially interested in the feeling of clicking on the trackpad and the fan noise.
-
while i view myself as something of a discriminating consumer, i don't know if i'm able to bear such heavy responsibilities with the uber discriminating crowd of fine fellow forumists here!
i might not be able to adequately describe, or understand, the details which y'all would like me to try to get a feel of!
i'll certainly try, and do my best, but i don't know if i'm able to be as discriminating as some of the good folks here.
just sayin' -
-
Haha Understood. I don't mean to burden you with an expectation of an in-depth review, but as lehidave said we're just twiddling our thumbs here with nothing to do but wait so any actual user opinions or comments are really great.

Newer orders are probably getting shipped first and first release orders are getting delayed since they're trying to source the USB to Ethernet Adaptor.
I just got the shipping notice this afternoon, and I don't think the adaptor comes with my order. -
The touchpad was large and responsive. I had never used a "clickpad" before but it seems like a reasonable setup. The surface of the touchpad definitely felt nice. But honestly, I think I'd have to use the machine a bunch to actually decide how much I'm going to like and use the touchpad as opposed to the trackpoint.
The keyboard was my favorite part though. I tried typing on lots of the machines there and there's no comparison between the thinkpads and the rest. The Sony Z13 seemed to have a particularly bad keyboard. I'm not sure if the keyboards are actually exactly the same on the X1C and the t430s, but I liked the X1C keyboard at least as much.
And yes, to answer the other question, J&R does have an X1C on display. Its in a different row than the other lenovos.. I think the second one when you walk in. -
Ya my order beat out a coworkers, as he ordered a good week before mine.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
Ordered an i5/8GB on 9/3, just got the shipping email (which indicates it shipped yesterday).
-
I ordered a full 2 weeks before you, and I haven't been notified of anything. Status is still order received.
Here is the response I got from a sales rep:
_Cameron W: From what I have been told they are going to ship without the adapter and then we get that to you when it is available
So it makes no sense to me how recent orders are shipping, while older orders are not. When I bring up cancelling the order this is the response I get:
_Cameron W: Yes it will be possible if you need to do that -
The truth is, I wouldn't trust a SINGLE word from these CSRs.
I ordered back on the first day possible, 8/14. When my order missed first shipping estimate, they said "oh it will be shipped by the end of day today, if not definitely tomorrow". And that was 8/22 or 8/23.
Then later they always come up with all kinds of new excuses. So I have learned my lesson. -
that might give us a clue as to whether the delay has anything to do whatsoever with the Sandisk SSD or not.
i ordered mine merely days after you did (i ordered on 9/6th) but my expected ship date when i was ordering was 9/26th!! after ordering, there was no more expected ship date whatsoever anymore. -
Just got a shipping notice, no tracking yet. Ordered base model on 8/14.

-
May I ask if your order still has the dongle on it? -
Option / Ethernet Adapter USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter
I hope all the rest of the 14th folks get their orders shipped today or tomorrow.
After this thread and sharing everyone feeling, I feel happy mine shipped, but also still a bit disappointed for everyone that didnt get their machine shipped yet. -
In my impression there are 1200+ such orders, from a conversation several weeks ago with a sales rep (not a CSR).
Now it all boils down to whether the technicians in Shanghai can handle so many boxes in a day or two. -
-
what do y'all think?
as zlrenner's 128gb ssd shipped, does it mean my i5/8gb/256gb will soon ship as well? i ordered around 3 days after zlrenner ordered (i think he ordered around 9/3rd, i ordered on 9/6th.
also: re the 1200 orders, not to disparage what anyone has heard at all, but i place very little weight on what Lenovo's staff tells me now. they are just spewing out untruths (otherwise in most circles known as lies). i can't imagine that any sales rep or customer service person would know exactly how many x1c's were ordered, or how many gets shipped per day, etc. Those seem to be highly technical, logistical, manufacturing side "stuff".
in these days of highly segmented work groups, teams, the right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing whatsoever. again, this is not to disparage anyone else's market intelligence. it is merely me rambling in a frustrating manner. thanks, kidfly, for sharing nonetheless. we're all in the same boat. don't mind me venting -

For anyone wanting to gauge shipping times, I got my email shipping notice on 9/6 at 2:40pm CST. My laptop passed customs in Anchorage AK, at 8:37pm on 9/8 and has been in Louisville, KY since 6:27AM today, 9/9. My scheduled delivery date is 9/13, but it appears it could be in Texas earlier... I did not pay extra for the faster shipping either.
Picture of tracking history -> -
My order status just changed to "in production," ship date to 9/12 from 9/10 and for the first time, I have an arrival date of 9/19. I ordered the i5/128/4gb on 8/30. I'm wondering though, since I got the expedited 2-3 day shipping, why there is a week transit time? Should I expect this to be less? Anyone that got the expedite shipping, how long was actual ship time?
Thanks. -
-
It was an option when I ordered...during checkout I believe, only $15, expedited shipping through UPS.
-
Looked like this in my order email:
ThinkPad X1 - 1 Year Depot Warranty $ 1,196.10 $ 1,196.10
Expedited delivery (UPS 2-3 business day $ 15.00 $ 15.00 -
Wow, we really got screwed by ordering early
I ordered on 8/14, my estimated ship date is currently 9/19 (estimated arrival 9/26), and there was no option at all to expedite shipping.
I suspect tomorrow will be something of a day of reckoning for many of us still waiting. After missing five estimated shipment dates, and currently having a ship date that's a full 36 days after my initial order date, it's frustrating. Watching someone who ordered on 9/3 get a shipment notification on 9/6 just adds even more insult to this prolonged injury.
I'm glad that some are getting shipment notifications, and I actually do expect mine to ship this week.. but man, with my luck, it'll spend 2 weeks in customs and then get lost at a UPS distribution center. -
I have an i5/4g/256g order. -
I mean, people who ordered on 9/3, less than a week ago, gets theirs first? BY no offense to those who ordered later, but I feel like I need more compensation than a 5% discount.
We didn't get an option to NOT select the ethernet thing and no option for expedient shipping. I mean, I know its past... but stil... -
The other thought that occurred to me is maybe if you ordered other items with it, the box was too big or too heavy to qualify for expedited shipping? -
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
Just kidding. Good to see some of the 8/14 diehards FINALLY getting shipping notices. -
hi! is it possible to buy it in a shop of NY?? or just buying it on the web?
because i am going to stay en NY for 10 days...
(sorry about my english!)

I ordered mine on 8/26. i5,8gb,256 . . it went back to order received a week ago and is still there. When I ordered there was no option to get the Ethernet Adapter. So I ordered it as an option and guess what was delivered on Friday? Yep . . I'm the proud owner of the famed Ethernet Adapter . . along with an extra power cord for my office . . still just waiting for a computer to go with these accessories. Maybe there will be some movement this week. I did get $85.00 compensation for the confusion.

A week after I placed my order, my SO bought a MBA online, and an hour later went down to the Apple store and had it in her hands. She's been rubbing it in for weeks now.
And yes, I will ask about expedited shipping my conversation with Lenovo tomorrow. I know someone else in this thread (can't remember who or exactly when) stated that they will not change any shipping details once the order goes to production.
Then again, if my laptop were actually in production when the status page said so, I'd have had the laptop weeks ago. So perhaps they can do something.. -
i did go to J&R this afternoon.
these are my thoughts after playing with the fab new x1c today:
- it is described accurately as through and through ThinkPad. it has all the DNA of the ThinkPad all around it: rubber (read: excellent) exterior finish, good corners, edges, extraordinary keyboard, trackpad, etc.
- No internet connected to the x1c, so only able to pull up the standard Windows 7 included "sample pictures", "sample video" (one video), and "sample songs". Their numerous laptops on display all have NO internet connected to them! I suppose they are fearful of folks hanging out and doing their business on them, but hey, it is unusual.
- the trackpad is every bit as responsive and almost sensual (as one reviewer had put it) as was previously written about. it is very very good. the surface is not glass-like, even though i know that it is made of some type of glass. it is excellent though for its intended purpose -- just the right about of drag and ability to glide on it.
- the keyboard needs no further discussion. it is the very best there is. one note: there was one forum poster who inquired about the keyboard "noise". well, there really isn't any. typing on it was reminiscent of what HP did with their keys to their instruments and their calculators: there is a clear tactile feedback click or clunk to it, but there is very little noise associated with it.
- screen door effect: if i were to get uber close to it (read as: unreasonably close), yes, i can see the space between the pixels, and the so-called screen door effect. when i'm at any distance that would make the screen useful, say, 10" or 15" away from it, i.e. any usable distance from it, then it is like any other good screen, hardly any noticeable screen door effect. it is possible that some may say there is the tiniest remnant of a screen door effect, but i must say that you'd have to try very hard to look for it.
if you're doing anything that requires you to think about what you're doing, i doubt that you can see/notice it. yet, i cannot speak for those who are specialists in this field, even though i'm a serious amateur photographer myself.
i'm certain that there may be some graphic design specialist who have unique requirements and have uber sensitized eyes to this. i'm certain, however, that to even discriminating users, that this screen is good -- might not be unbelievably great, but it is at the very least good.
The fact that this screen is non-IPS is a bit of an issue, I must say. The angle which one may have the LCD set at does impact on its colors from one's viewing location. This is a "minus" or a "con". My last (current) laptop is the same way, so i've always had to adjust my laptop screen's angle in order to have an optimal viewing angle or colors. I've never had an IPS laptop screen. My tablet does have an IPS screen and it is quite handy, though for a tablet, it is a bit of a non-issue since one would almost always be using it at the right viewing angle since one would need to interact with it! Ironic, eh?
- Heat: i put the one single available Windows 7 sample video on "repeat" for maybe around 10 minutes, and the heat at the bottom is barely warm. it is not cold or cool, but it is barely warm, or maybe i'd characterize it as comfortably warm or slightly warm. of course, this is not the same as stressing the machine out with a current generation high powered video game. then again, that's not my personal purpose for this particular machine so it was not at the top of my "concerns" list.
- Fan Noise: along with the above topic "heat", the fan noise from the bottom, or anywhere on the x1c for that matter, was essentially nonexistent or not able to be discerned in the context of a store. I put my ear right to the bottom of the x1c, after lifting the entire x1c up in the air, and this is repeatedly including after the ~10 minutes of putting the one single available sample video on a repeat: no fan noise that i am able to hear. either the ambient store noise was too high, or there is not much x1c fan noise at all.
- Sound: the sound quality was surprisingly good. it was not particularly loud, just sufficiently loud. being a long time audiophile, i would say that one can't rock to it, but it is surprisingly good! what a pleasant "plus"! this is especially in light of the Sony Z 2012's unbelievably poor speakers. yes, it was unbelievably poor, to the point that they include a decent pair of earbuds as an included accessory to the Z 2012! this is a nice bonus. those tiny 2 slits at the left and right bottom edges did wonders!
- Red nipple: forgot to try it out.
- Flexing/rigidity: the bottom half was tough to even be flexed a little bit, so it is very rigid, i'd say. the top half, i.e. the LCD part, was able to be flexed, but there was a limit to how far one can go and it was relatively little flexing. i would say that it was sufficiently stiff for its intended purpose and considering its thinness.
- Availability: the base configuration is available immediately, albeit in very small quantities and at a premium from the lenovo.com pricing.
- Power Brick: last but certainly not least, i have an opinion about the x1c's power brick, or, more properly said, Lenovo's power brick. these guys must be insanely dumb to come up with this machine, this uber special, well-thought out intelligent machine, and accompany it with this ed power brick! yes, i said it: dumb dumb dumb. it is ridiculously old fashioned, like something from 12 years ago, so very year 1999. huge.
That said, i bought an extra one because i just don't want to carry this dumb thing back and forth between the two locations that i intend to use it at. what choice do i have? i view it as the cost of "doing business" with Lenovo. You take what you can get. This round, Lenovo paid zero attention to it. It is entirely part of the machine, as it has very poor battery life, quick charge function included or not, 4-5 hours per charge is simply poor by any ultrabook standard.
Providing such a poorly designed power brick is like a restaurant having a lousy dessert menu selection, or poor dishes or silverware, or a bad chair to go with the dining experience. It is a PART of the entire package. It doesn't matter that this machine is 2.998 pounds. The silly power brick is like a huge chunk of that weight in addition to the machine itself! Silly! Sowwy...rant over.
- Slimmest/smallest well-fitting Sleeve : I'm in the market for the slimmest sleeve that can accommodate the x1c. I've looked around but it is not easy to find! I'd like one that has a zipper or similar so it is not one of those "open on one side" type of sleeves. Most sleeves are made for the Mac Book Pros. Even those which are made for a 13" laptop, are almost always made for laptops that are substantially thicker than the x1c. Any advice/suggestions would be most appreciated!
Hope this helps our fellow forum posters.Attached Files:

Thoughts please ???? Screen, track pad ,fan noise? Thank you for the pics!

What about fan noise and the right and left click buttons on the track pad? Thank you again!
-
what about the left/right click buttons? what is the query regarding those? i used them, quite a few times, but didn't notice anything noteworthy. what specifically were you asking, may i ask, regarding those 2 buttons? -
Thanks for the pictures and comments! Its very much appreciated!
