mmm...sorry to be a spoil sport, but...

they don't give a brand name, nor where to purchase one.

they also had a tough time zipping it back up, thus not giving the viewer much confidence in the quality of the sleeve's construction or parts (i.e. the zipper).

am i the only one feeling this way about this particular sleeve?

again, sorry! i think i might be coming across as being harsh.

Your best bet would be on getting the thinkpad 14W ultrabook topload and sleeve set. Opt for the small as I believe that it is specifically geared for the x1c. They also have it in brown. Unfortunately right now they don't seem to be in stock or available.

Oh, no problem. Maybe I should have explained a little...

What I like about that "sleeve" is that it's not actually a sleeve at all, it's just one of those standard business notebook/folio things. I bet some people have extra folios just laying around the house or office, or you could just pick one up at an office supply store for probably much cheaper than some of those rip-off laptop sleeves. And if you're walking around with it people won't recognize it as a laptop sleeve but just a notebook. :)

Wow. My order FINALLY shipped after 5 missed marks on the estimated ship dates.

My final ESD was 9/9 which didn't make sense with it being sunday, but it actually shipped Friday, 9/7. Estimated delivery was 9/16 but is now 9/13 according to tracking. It's currently in Narita, Japan and shipped out of Shanghai. I was among the first to order it on 8/14 very early in the morning with a custom order of i5 / 256GB / 8GB. I'm pretty excited to finally get it. This should give hope for others with my same situation. :)

Nice. I ordered at 5am PST so it shouldn't be too far off if they're going in order. Hope you hear something soon. When is your ESD?

I wouldn't trust that date so much. At one point my date showed a 10/23 ESD and was brought up. Then it shipped 2 days before my final ESD. Most reps were telling me that it would ship before the 16th. So hopefully it ships sooner for you.

Many thanks for your review & pictures. Two thumbs way up:thumbsup:! That makes me believe the long wait is much worth it. this morning my order changed from order received to in production. estimated ship day is 9/17 and delivery date is 9/26. Hopefully lenovo wont let me down this time.

    what is the difference between

"Released to Manufacturing" versus "In Production"?

Mine are in "Released to Manufacturing" state though many others here on this forum have their status as "In Production".

    Thx in advance.

My take is that released to MFG means that the order is planned, production orders are "printed" and will begin work soon.

I believe lenovo "kits" the sub assemblies and parts then send those kits to be put together (manufactured) so once the serialized kit begins the process (via scan) of being put together I think the status changes to "in production"

The reason they canceled orders was to remove the dongle from the manufacturing BOM. They cant edit the bill of material when there are transaction on the sku. This was done manually, so there could have been a few orders that were missed in the recreation.

For some reason the dongle still shows on the Order Status page, but Im pretty sure it will not come with the machine.

Folks that ordered without the dongle should not have had their orders canceled, thats why some had their orders shipped before "us" (as in the first group)

If my PC shows up with a dongle I would be VERY surprised. And if it does than the folks at Lenovo where just making stuff up.

It makes sense what they said as far as canceling orders. As I posted prior (somewhere around page 20) they needed to clear the system of wrong planning information. When dealing with lot or serialized items you can not post output of a finished product unless ALL lot/serialized items are on hand and able to be consumed in the Finished Good. The reason for that is Lenovo need to know what serialized item is in your system. If they don't have a serialized item to consume they can not finish production because the system is asking for a number of an item they dont have. They cant just make it up because that will screw EVERYTHING up, from costing and finance to inventory and planning.

So, yes the dongle still shows on the order status, but I dont think its coming with the order. If it does well.......I guess they sorted things out.

Folks have been speculating on what display panels are being used, and whether or not more than one display supplier is possible.

I'd like to offer what I see in my "Released to Manufacturing" list:

    X1 Carbon 14.0 PHD+ WWAN

I have no idea what PHD means. Isn't WWAN a spec that has to do with the pixels x pixels spec?

Hope some good folks here can shed some light on this mystery.

Most likely the usual three makers are supplying the panels. LG, Samsung and AOU. You can check which one you have usually by installing HWiNFO or any number of other utilities that will expose the manufacturer part numbers and strings.

SKU listings on orders have never made any sense to me.

WWAN is the mobile broadband which probably has an antenna routed into the display casing.

I don't know about the PHD+. The HD+ certainly seems to refer to the panel, and the 14" is the form factor.
The WWAN though.. that should only be referring to the 3g/UMTS modem (Wireless Wide Area Network). If I had to guess, that description is for the entire monitor panel, and is indicating that it has the WWAN antenna in it. The cheaper model that doesn't include the WWAN module might also forego the antenna in the screen.

Just a guess, though. My order status page reads identical to yours. It also does still show the usb ethernet dongle.

It said "Status: Cancelled". The reason is pretty easy, I used my debit card which has a max purchase amount. I had it extended for the first auth, but when they reset the order, they had to reset the auth. That auth didn't go through due to that max purchase amount expiring. Instead of calling or emailing, they hard cancelled the order. I noticed it last week and called on Friday, the rep said it was not cancelled and should switch back over within a day. Today, I called, and they confirmed it was cancelled. I had to rebook the order, and they are unable to expedite it.

I'm going to go try out the Zenbook Prime today.

Just called Lenovo, the CSR says to me "we are working on these orders and should ship them no later than the twenty first of September".

    9/21...

    9/21...

(I have an order on 8/14 12:00pm PDT) Truly remarkably screwed!!

    kiddfly et al:

y'all who ordered on 8/14th (or thereabouts) have the most unfair treatment. maybe, just maybe, IF they gave you the much talked about 5% off, it might offer some minimal solace.

there's no reason whatsoever that those who supported them early on would get screwed most. makes no sense.

this is supposed to be a laptop company for road warriors? huh? what corporate executive would put up with this?

would you guys bet that if we were big shots at a major corporation with a corporate salesperson, that we'd get completely different treatment? all folks are equal, it's just that some are a bit more equal than others :p

In my understanding, RTM refers to your order is waiting for production, in other words, it doesnt start yet.
In production means your machine is being assembled in lenovo's workshop. Once completed, it'll be ready for delivery.

No way dude! They said the 16th!!! You should hold them to that! Now they pushed back 5 more days!!

Either way, I think it will ship before that. But you should keep it real. We were all told the 16th for the backlog. You need to call sales, ask for a manager and nicely explain the situation.

Because I will go on a 3 week vacation starting 9/14. So if the machine doesn't come before 9/14, I won't care about the delay anymore :)

Not sure even that means anything. My i5/8/256 from 8/19 has been "In Production" for almost a week now. Apparently they're putting in one screw per day, or they outsourced their production line to a group of enterprising sloths.

That sloth idea is the most plausible theory that I've heard so far. It would explain a lot!

Mine has been in Order Received (ordered on 8/20) with a $0 total for weeks and this morning the total was updated. They also put a pending charge on my CC on the 6th and today. Those sloths are up to something!

Mine shipped 9/8 ordered 8/20. Status was updated from original 9/4 ship date when the order was placed. This happened on 9/4 and the ship date was then revised to 9/9. I received notification that it shipped on 9/8. Was actually hoping the shipment date would pass so I could either cancel the order, or call to complain to get some $$$ taken off.

Base model no upgrades, I didn't order a dongle... just passing it along...

i just want to add that there was never an option to include, or order, a dongle whatsoever when i ordered mine. even now, it says no dongle!

my order process was slightly odd to me:

    - i added to cart a couple of weeks ago, maybe 10 days ago?

    - i then talked to a sales guy on the phone (barnes & noble sales extension from the B&N page on lenovo.com)

    - he then insisted that he needed to "convert" my saved cart to a "formal quote" before the cart's price can be honored for a maximum of 14 days. he claimed that otherwise, the saved cart would have a price "guarantee" of something like 1 day or something ridiculous like that. i didn't believe him, but what other choice would i have? even worse, because i used my email coupon for that particular "saved cart", and that he converted it into a "formal quote", my email coupon (a 1-time use thing) was no longer able to be used again. So, i was essentially married to this sales guy!! i was told none of that, of course.

    - i called him back around 10 days after we converted it into a formal quote to place an actual order, i.e. convert the formal quote to an actual sales order. that was last Thursday, 9/6th. my estimated ship date when i was placing my order was 9/26th!!! YUCK.

i think that once you asked a sales person to convert your saved cart to a formal quote, you're essentially stuck with that guy. reason: no other sales person would want to bother with you because, essentially, you've shot your wad. the new person wouldn't get any financial benefit/incentive to deal with you, handle your queries, questions. you're essentially married to this sales guy!

Well I just had an enlightening chat with a sales associate...

I placed 3 orders on 8/15, 2 of which I cancelled, and two of which sit in "In Production". The sales rep told me that my order hadn't been cancelled, and that I wasn't the only person reporting that they received a cancellation email and that it was still a valid order. I check my card again, and of course it's been auth'ed (again).

If they do ship this order to me, I don't know what I'll do at this point, hold it for 30 days and give them no notification of what is going on? I think Amex will back me up, this company is a clusterf#@$

EDIT: I forgot to mention that when I asked about orders weeks after mine were shipping, that they ended the chat? Wow.

Maybe the difference in the ship dates is due to how the order was entered. I went through the epp via the web.

congrats to the both of you! as you both ordered on 8/20th, and i ordered on 9/6th, sigh...i'll have a very L O N G time to wait for mine, right?

    :realmad:

PS: what were your configurations, may i ask?
Mine is i5/8gb/256gb, and i ordered a few accessories as well, but they each have their own various dates. This company is entirely bewildering! Their logistics department must have gone trekking in Antarctica for vacation for something like 5 years.

They sent all accessories I ordered with X1C separately. You can expect something similar since different products are located in different places.

Mine, ordered 8/23, is now in Lexington and scheduled for delivery in Ontario on Wednesday. I had trouble finding out, because they sent me an invalid tracking number, and it took ages waiting on the phone to get the correct one.

However, after refusing to accept my US-based credit card (the only company to do this in > 20 years), refusing to accept a bank draft, and insisting I send a wire transfer ... they accepted the wire transfer ... and now I find they have also charged my credit card!

So I'll have to call them again tomorrow...

This is my first ThinkPad, and I have to say their 'service' is so far the worst I've ever encountered, and I haven't even got the machine yet.

Like you, i also want/need a sleeve that fits the x1c perfectly well. however, i do not need a standard office messenger-styled bag.

the "smaller sleeve" as listed includes BOTH the sleeve as well as the messenger-styled bag where the sleeve is intended to fit into. it was confusingly written (the description), but i read it that way. as i only need the sleeve, i don't know what i should do. one would think that there must be a sleeve out there that would fit the x1c very well as the x1c is almost identically sized as the Macbook Air, and there ought to be tons of sleeves and doodads that fit virtually anything Apple!

to top it all off, that lenovo sleeve is not enclosed on one side -- there's only a strap. if i could find another well fitting one, i'd rather that the sleeve i end up with has a zipper or something that would allow all 4 sides to be "closed" in order to prevent as much dust as possible from getting in while in a backpack or messenger bag.

i'm hoping that a kind fellow forum poster would post what they found as the "best" sleeve soon!! ;)

nbtech10: how do you like your sleeve thus far? any chance of taking some pictures? the ones on lenovo.com are poor, surprise surprise.

The sleeve I ordered from Lenovo is a simple sleeve. It has a zipper that covers 3 sides and the 4th side is closed, so this sleeve is entirely closed. It offers good protection, but I wasn't too worried as it'll probably be in a backpack most of the time when on the go.

I'm not too sure how good of a fit this will be for the X1c. I think it may be a little bit too big, but it was only $11 and I thought I'd try it out. Here is a link to the sleeve:
