Just received mine. First impressions: screen door effect, awesome keyboard, no complaints about the trackpad, slight flex where the trackpad meets the keyboard build quality is great, I love the feel and finish of the device(I'm not a big fan of the aluminium builds out there right now), instant resume from sleep, boot to desktop in 30 seconds(15 seconds to lock screen). Overall a great device.
The screen door effect is very noticeable at typing distance on light backgrounds, but text and video are clear. I'd say the screen quality needs to be bumped for the next iteration, but this one is definitely acceptable.

I am being hopeful in a ridiculous situation!
I was trying to be a bright shining star for others!

Strange thing with Lenovo. Yesterday, credit card services took the hold off so I could order the 430s. This morning it is still on. I ordered the 430s yesterday. The x1 carbon can still be seen on the order status page with an estimated shipment date. And the amount still have a temp hold with credit card. I would not be surprised if they ship both. Crazy!

Just received my second unit. This one does have a wireless card. Yay.
Does anyone know how to boot from the recovery partition? I've tried all the F's but I can't get it to boot from it. I've tried the Thinkpad button but that also does not have an option for a factory reset/reinstall. If you're wondering, I would like to see if I can create a factory USB/DVD media from the image. -

So I think the recovery partition only gets activated after you go through the initial setup, because my 8gb version has it and I setup windows on it.
My touchpad on this second laptop is crazy loose and lopsided. The first one is great. After I do a backup of this factory drive (128gb over USB is dog slow) I will be taking apart this second one as well to try to fix the touchpad.
I'm going to try to get use to the screen door effect on this screen. I have good eyes so it's kind of bothersome. If I can get past this, the screen is great. The laptop does feel like a tank though... I like it.
Oh ya, no dongle in this one either. -
-
I received mine. To echo impressions, the computer is great. I find that the touchpad can be a little bothersome, as my palms constantly hit it when typing (i.e, right now!). The computer is fast, and has a great look, and a small footprint.
Regarding the screen, when I sit this laptop down next to my T61 (with the high res screen upgrade), there is a difference in perceived sharpness. What is really interesting is when I compare the screens up close. The space between pixels seems to be exactly the same on the T61, but is much more grainy on the X1C. I personally believe that this is actually due to the yellowish tint of the T61 screen, when compared to the pure white of the X1C. Thus, I don't think that the screen is actually that bad on the X1C, but seems that way largely because of the original factory settings.
I would be really, really interested to see a close up of the X1C screen as compared to the T420s (which I understand really did have a screen door effect). I think that the screen on the X1C isn't actually cheap or crappy, but just has a huge number of people looking for just such an effect.
Can anyone compare a picture of a close up of a T420s with the X1C? -
-
same here. I ordered mine on 8/16 and got it 9/17. no ethernet dongle in the box. I called CSR & was told it will be shipped later when it's available
. but no actual ship date can be given at this moment. anyway, I'm pretty happy with this machine. Built quality & overall performance exceed my expectation. Trackpad is really awesome:thumbsup:.

My X1C is due to be delivered next Tuesday, 25th Sept, to my UK address but according to UPS it's taking an interesting route:
Almaty, Kazakhstan 20/09/2012 15:19 Arrival Scan Koeln, Germany 20/09/2012 06:42 Package data processed by brokerage Waiting for clearance Incheon, Korea, Republic of 20/09/2012 12:07 Departure Scan 20/09/2012 07:54 Arrival Scan Shanghai, China 20/09/2012 05:07 Departure Scan 20/09/2012 00:20 Export Scan 20/09/2012 00:20 Origin Scan China 19/09/2012 01:09 Order Processed: Ready for UPS I think the driver turned right when he should have taken a left. I mean, seriously, it can't make sense to go from Germany to the UK via Kazakhstan. My new laptop will have seen more of the world than I have
Edit: I can only assume that either the timings are not quite right or the delivery is cleared by EU customs in Germany prior to it actually getting there - i.e just the paperwork. So at the moment it is sitting in Kazakhstan waiting for the next flight to the UK. -
Seems like our respective laptops are on the same flight ;-) , I got this:
Almaty, Kazakhstan 20/09/2012 17:29 Departure Scan
20/09/2012 15:19 Arrival Scan
Koeln, Germany 20/09/2012 6:42 Package data processed by brokerage Waiting for clearance
Incheon, Korea, Republic of 20/09/2012 12:07 Departure Scan
20/09/2012 7:54 Arrival Scan
Shanghai, China 20/09/2012 5:07 Departure Scan
20/09/2012 0:22 Export Scan
20/09/2012 0:22 Origin Scan
China 19/09/2012 1:09 Order Processed: Ready for UPS
I was confused about the Germany/Kazakhstan link too, but a bit of research showed that the Germany entrance only relates to the paperwork being done ahead of arrival - the actual package has travelled from Korea to Kazakhstan.
-
Indeed. If the next stop really is the UK and assuming it arrives later this evening, then in theory it could be in the back of a van tomorrow. Unlikely, I know, but I'm beginning to get over excited!
-
Wow! You folks over there in the UK certainly have "children" who are well traveled - and at a very young age too! Congrats!
-
I got a feeling it will go through Germany first, as my ETA is Monday... but we shall see
.
-
mine was on the same flight. delivery on monday in germany
-
thx in advance!
mine is an i5/8gb/256gb which, as some have pointed out, has not really been noted as having been received by many. in fact, very very few of these have been posted as "received". bummer. i wonder if there will be even more delays for this config? -
-
some have worried that this entire config is giving Lenovo problems, and hence very few of these have been noted as having been received thus far.
considering that these are beginning to roll off their assembly lines, maybe those of us with this config might expect a flurry of deliveries soon, as they must bunch up these assemblies one config at a time, rather than each one coming down the assembly line having a different config, right? -
I spent a significant amount of time on the phone with the Lenovo post-sales department today. My order, posted awhile back, i5/4gb/128 - Ordered on August 22 is still "In Production" according to the order status page. The new shipping date according to a Level 1 and a Level 2 CSR is the WEEK of October 8th. I know it has been discussed here that these CSRs really have no idea as to what is going on. I kept badgering the Level 2 guy, asking why the laptop has not shipped if they are shipping the dongle separately. He told me there is a shortage with the CPU & Motherboard, apparently it shares a common board with a T430? I really do not know what to believe at this point. He could not answer why systems with the exact same config, ordered weeks after mine, have already been shipped and received. I suspect it may have something to do with the B&N + Stacked coupon. I'm wondering if systems closer to full price are given a higher priority. The call ended with the fact that the week of Oct 8 is not a hard date.. could be sooner, could be later - they don't know. Seriously?
I'm inching closer and closer to canceling. Unfortunately the system looks awesome and I do not really want anything else.. stuck between a rock and a hard place I guess. -
@DualMonitors:
Same config as you - i5/8GB/256. Also, the parcel appears to be in Poland now... China - Korea - Kazakhstan - Poland, truly a world tour. -
As I mentioned previously, your "offspring" truly has started "life" being a world traveler! Obviously, UK and "continental" youngsters are far better traveled than youngsters from other parts of the world!
kuehnmj: i wouldn't believe a single word those customer service reps are saying. they truly don't have a clue and will spew out anything just to get off the phone! just my take on this pathetic situation. -
14th August, i5/8GB/256GB -
It is now in Warsaw, BTW. So far so good. -
-
Yeah, if you ordered the X1 when it included the ethernet dongle and with a 256gb configuration, you're got screwed badly.
I too am still waiting on my i5/8gb/256gb that I ordered 8/14.. can't get any ETA from Lenovo. Order status says ESD is 9/26.. I don't believe it, but I'm hoping just the same. The manager I've been talking with for the past month now still insists that he can't give me any estimate, and says it's the backordered SSD that is the delay.
Frustrating... such is life :/ -
Today the "Order Detail" page shows my ESD went from 26 Sept. to 21 Sept. (tomorrow). I think this is the first time I've seen the date get bumped up. Fingers crossed.
Actually next week would be a good time to get it, because my wife will be out of town and I haven't told her (yet) that I bought a new computer. Maybe when she comes back she won't notice the difference between the X1 Carbon and the original X1 I bought last year :| -
i5, 8, 256 ordered on 8/14.
Mine ALSO just got bumped forward from the (second) latest estimated ship date of 9/26 to 9/23! Good sign, among overwhelming numbers of infuriating ones. -
I am another one of those people who ordered an i5 processor/8GB RAM/256 GB SSD X1 Carbon. Ordered on 8/16/2012. Order included the USB Ethernet dongle. Status in order page still shows "In Production" and estimated shipping date is 09/26/2012 with estimated delivery on 10/3/2012.
Still waiting like a lot of you... However, I managed to get Lenovo to give me a 10% discount concession two weeks ago for the delay in shipping. I also managed to get Lenovo to upgrade my order to priority shipping.
I would have already cancelled if not for the fact that I was able to get a good price due to EPP discount + 10% newsletter stackable discount + 10% discount concession + upgrade to priority shipping...
At least there is hope that by the time we get our units, Lenovo may have worked out some of the kinks with regads to assembly of the units. -
9/26th Est Ship Date
10/3rd Est Delivery Date
-
-
Has anyone contacted Lenovo about this new ESD date 09/23?
14th, August, i5/8GB/256GB -
-
After a week or more of the order status page being unavailable for my order, yesterday it came back with 9/26 ship date and today updated to 9/23 ESD and 9/30 delivery. Hoping I can actually believe it.
Ordered on 8/16,
i5/8/256 -
Still, got a pretty good price for this still and am really set on this machine (don't really like anything else out there including the ultrabook from the fruit company...). I guess If I really had to choose something else I would go with the X230 but really need the larger screen. -
I wouldn't believe anything on the order status page. After spending time today on the phone with two CSR's I checked my order status page this afternoon to see if anything had changed. This morning the ESD was 9/16. This afternoon? 9/20. What's the date today? Seriously annoying.
-
Happy for all you folks with "new and improved" shipping dates, but, alas, no joy over here (nyc). -
Do they deliver on Saturday?

Hi, I am just about to order an X1 from Lenovo Canada. Anyone know if these shipping issues are specific to the U.S. or also affect Canada? Also, I want to order the vanilla version (i5, 128gb) - is the shipping delay better/ worse with that build? Is it maybe just a shortage of 256GB SSDs?
-

The shipping issues definitely affect Canada, since I'm in the same shipping mess and shipping to Ontario. Ordered 8/19, i5/8gb/256, so you might get an earlier ship date since yours will be stock. ESD 9/26, arriving 10/03

Oh, btw, guys, how lovely that Lenovo's x1c ordering pages now says that the ethernet cable (usb 2.0) is now an OPTION for $20.
ha ha ha. aren't they funny? -
I have no experience with Lenovo shipping. What do you think, if they ship the laptop on 24th, when can it arrive in Seattle or any close state? Does it go through Seattle from China?
-
Finally got a higher up to call me after my BBB complaint. Return UPS slip was promptly emailed and my 8gb is back in the mail today for the missing WIFI/Bluetooth cards. I'm keeping the machine, but I'm going to have to get back into this line of waiting for fulfillment. It should be accepted for return on Monday and I'll be entered back into the order queue with my replacement. Hopefully The 128gb parts are still churning out... a bit worried if there will be any 8gb RAM units left.
Quite an adventure from an 8/15 order date. At this rate, I'll have my machine 2 months after I ordered it. I was offered a 1 year extension on my warranty service, which was a nice concession after all these headaches.
I'll be posting more impressions over in the http://forum.notebookreview.com/thi.../688697-lenovo-x1-carbon-owners-thread-6.html -
Finally got a shipment confirmation:
Ordered: 14 August, ~6:00 am EDT.
Config: i5/8GB/256GB (w/ Ethernet dongle)
Estimated Ship Date: At least as early as 24 August. As late as 26 September.
Actual Ship Date: 21 September (38 days from order date, 28 days from original ESD).
Estimated Arrival Date: N/A -
For many of us who are still waiting for our x1c's, the critical next hurdle date appears to be 9/26th.
While I'm hopeful, considering how many dates they've missed without even bothering to notify us, it remains to be seen. Sigh. -
Ordered: 14 August, ~9:00 am PST.
Config: i5/8GB/256GB (w/ Ethernet dongle)
Estimated Ship Date: 23 September
Actual Ship Date: 21 September
Estimated Arrival Date: N/A
