Nice to see another Minneapolitan getting an X1C. Here's to hoping ours show up soon!
I called earlier today and spoke with a rep and a supervisor. To quote the rep: "All the orders have been delayed for some reason. I was told it was a part constraint with the USB to Ethernet dongle. In fact, all X1 Carbons have been delayed."
To quote the supervisor, "Honestly, they're backordered due to the Ethernet dongle. All of the machines. We're currently unable to ship the product, but we expect this situation to last no longer than the 16th of September."
The supervisor also "escalated" my order and promised to relay another update from the supply team "very shortly."
The supervisors aren't superhuman, but it was extremely relieving to have someone on the other end actually tell me what we already know: the supply chain is completely broken. Hearing that is miles better than the misleading dates that I've been promised in past calls and chats.
However, if this really is an issue impacting all of the X1 Carbons, I'm absolutely shocked that Lenovo hasn't taken more proactive steps to inform their customers of the delay. They've lost a lot of good will.

Pushed back again.. now I have a shipping date of 09/18 and delivery date of 9/25... ridiculous.
-
1. 8/22/12 : 11:00 CST, B&N Gold + 10% News Letter + USX - $1055.16 with Tax
2. Base i5 - No Upgrades
3. Milwaukee, WI
4. 9/3 - Never Changed (Yet)
5. N/A
6. 9/10 - Just added tonight
7. N/A
The order just changed to "In Production" within the last 3 hours and an Estimated Arrival date was added to the order. The interesting thing is that my CC had a hold put on it on the day of the order and it must have expired - another hold was just added tonight, expiring 9/2, anyone else experience this?
I am going to call CS tomorrow to validate the order and to make sure it was not canceled with out notification like some of the others here. If it was canceled I'm going to re-order 8GB / 256..
I've tried the Asus UX31E and the trackpad was horrendous. I'm getting impatient but getting back on that trackpoint is what's keepin' me holding on! -
i emailed lenovo to cancel my order. a lot can happen in the next three weeks in terms of new announcements, user experience reviews, price changes, etc. so no point in waiting that long.
i think it's fair to conclude at this point that with all the misinformation communicated in the different reviews and now the severe shipping delays that lenovo has really botched this launch. -
has anyone tried asking lenovo whether they would consider doing this? -
And people wonder why everyone is moving to Apple products. I could go to Apple Store and get MacBook Pro 15 Retina the same day, no waiting.
Excellent customer support, there is no Lenovo store where I live, or any kind of store where I can get ThinkPad! -
BTW, I noticed that this thread has had upwards of 250,000 views. I don't know if that's high/low in the usual scheme of things, but it seems pretty bad P.R given that most of the people visiting here are likely customers or potential customers. -

If you guys look on the website, ordering the X1C now does *NOT* come with an ethernet dongle. It is most definitely the reason for the delay.
I bet ordering now without the dongle will get it to ship faster  -
It was released to manufacturing yesterday, and is currently scheduled for shipment on the 4th. -
I did my order on the X1C without the dongle (i5+8GB RAM+256GB SSD), even for the most expensive model. We can go anywhere to get a USB dongle online for a decent price.
I also believe the dongle is the reason caused so many troubles to early orders (which includes it in the package at the beginning). -
Ordered on the 15th. -
When I ordered my X1 carbon on 8/27 the ethernet adapter was "not" an option. I ended up ordering one for 15.99 and it has shipped. My 8gb/i5/256 just went to "in production" but my ship date slipped from 9/5 to 9/18. If that ends up being accurate I'm good with it. Guess it's because I've ordered from Lenovo before as an early adopter. Actually, at least for me and YMMV, once I got the computer a W530 when it first came out . . it was worth the delay. I think the x1 carbon will also be worth the wait.
-
According to Lenovo this switch from In Production to Order Received and a $0 total is because the orders are being rejected by manufacturing and cancelled internally due to the parts shortage. The orders will then be recreated internally and update the web status. I'm curious to see if those who cancelled and ordered/ordered without the USB dongle receive your machines first. Very poor planning if they estimated for example, 500,000 orders and only had 100,000 dongles in stock.
Regarding the concession, $100 is the standard max I've seen unless you have lengthy order history with Lenovo to show you're a loyal customer they push it a bit higher. They must also look at your order specifically and see what discounts you've applied so they know how much of their margin they are cutting into. I think Lenovo could do other things like include the W8 upgrade cost for free, etc, but am still banking on this being a great machine and worth the wait. -
Curious. On the website, the estimated ship dates for the non-i7 models have changed to 9/6, while the i7, which previously said "more than 4 weeks" now says 9/19. Maybe some progress has been made procuring parts?

Estimated Ship Date - N/C
Estimated delivery - N/C -
Some users have reported they have already received their X1's. What's interesting though is that both of the recipients are international. More info in thread below:

I just spoke with an online rep who said all orders will ship out Sept 16th due to the ethernet dongle shortage. When I asked if I could just have it sent without, they told me I could not modify my order. Normally I'm pretty patient but this is pretty frustrating for there to be a one month long delay from the original order. I know it's worth the wait, but I hope they're wrong and it ships sooner.
My expected delivery information has been "in production" for at least a week. But the dates keep switching. Now it's at 9/2. -
I placed my order on 8/15.
i7/4GB/256GB
the status has gone in this order:
Released to manufacturing
In production
Order received
estimated ship date is now 9/2 and estimated arrival date is now 9/9
If i remember correctly, isn't "in production" after "order received"? -
-
Hi I ordered mine on Aug 15, 2012
(i-5,4gb RAM, 256gb SSD)
My order got delayed three times, and now it is scheduled to be shipped on 9/18, and expected to arrive on 9/25.
So I got frustrated and called the sales rep person, who told me that he would put my order on the PRIORITY orders, meaning one of the first round shipment. The question is, "WHEN CAN I RECEIVE IT?!!"
Just like many of you, I have waited for 2 weeks now, and they are telling us to wait for 2 more weeks?! Really?
The only thing keeping me from canceling is the awesome machine. But honestly, some bad informing and preparation by Lenovo. THey should compensate in some form. Did anyone ask for compensation or free upgrades? because we deserve it. -
some resellers do have stock, so they are clearly prioritizing business-to-business sales over direct to customers sales.
-
I agree, I love TPs more than any other brand and I doubt I will ever buy a non-TP, but the one thing Lenovo has never been able to match IBM in is customer service.
-
Well, I've gotten hit by the order reset fun. (Also, wow did this thread suddenly explode.. I think there's been 70 posts in the last 24h)
My order doesn't show canceled on the status page, but it does show it back to "Order Received" and the cost being set to $0. I've also had the ship date pushed back to 9/2 with a delivery date of 9/9.
So my i5/8gb/256gb ordered on 8/14 has now had delivery dates listed as 8/22, 8/26, 8/30 and 9/2.
I heard back from a manager this morning, who wasn't able to tell me anything. He said he was "working with supply" on my order, and will let me know when he has any new info.
Will post any info I learn here.. but I'm somehow not expecting to hear from him again until Monday at the earliest. -
Well, I just talked to a CSR for the 5th time this week - I keep getting the same guy, so he must be tired of me. He essentially told me that if your order has the dongle on it, your order isn't shipping out until mid or early September, regardless of what the order status says. Mine was quoted as September 16th, specifically, though the order status still says it should ship out today.

Hey all. I've been following this thread since the beginning and figured I'd add another data point since my status has finally been updated.
1. Ordered: 8/20
2. Config: i5-3427U, 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM
3. Shipped-To: San Jose, CA
4. Estimated ship: 8/28 > 9/18
5. Actual Ship Date: n/a
6. Estimated Arrival: 9/8 > 9/25
7. Actual Arrival Date: n/a
All day yesterday their system wouldn't let me check my order status and now it's been updated to the above with "order received", with a total of $0. So I assume it was cancelled and re-entered like all the others. No email was received at any point.
I'm sure the machine will be worth waiting for but I'm a student and was really hoping to have it by the time this semester started. It's one thing to have delays but to have delays with either no communication to the customers or contradictory/inconsistent information from CSR's is really frustrating. I may try to call them up later to see if I can get a discount for putting up with this debacle.
UPDATE: I just spoke with someone through the online chat and they agreed to give me a 5% discount for the trouble. If I didn't use other discount codes on the order they might have allowed 10% but, I'll take what I can get. Although the discount will only be applied as a refund which I have to call in to request after I get the unit, and I'm not looking forward to dealing with that. -
Add me to the list of people whose order status now says "Order Received." New estimated shipping date: 9/18.
-
As for multiple ship and delivery dates everyone is getting, I wouldn't rely on it too heavily. They're all over the place and the shipment can come earlier or later. But I'm starting to think it won't be until mid September when we all get these things shipped to us. I hope I'm wrong and we get it sooner. -
You know, it's not so bad when you start thinking of it as a pre-order. We're even getting slight discounts for putting up with the slipping release date! When's the last time a pre-order slipped and you got a discount for it?
-
After all the discounts, mine comes out to about $1350 for a 256GB, 8GB, i5. The larger screen with carbon frame gives even more of an advantage. That just can't be beat. I'll gladly wait. -

I also got the canceled order status on my account. I called today and was told it's being fixed and to wait another two weeks.
Geez, I guess I'm not a big enough a hole I should have asked for more discount!
To those with the canceled order status did the csr say when we can expect to have our online status fixed/updated? -
hey guys. First post here. I ordered yesterday, i5/128gb/4gb and no dongle adapter, unaware of the supply/shipping problems. Soon after ordering, I found out that I hadn't added my new address -- recently moved -- so I called today around noon(CST) to clear it up.
The original ship date was 9/9, after a 9/5 ship date was listed while ordering -- presumably the 4 day credit card verification delay they give notice of. The CSR after telling me he would transfer me to the credit card department, said that it would still delayed until 9/16 due to an the dongle being unavailable. I became pretty upset, because it seemed like such a ridiculous issue to hold up shipping...I also didn't think I had ordered the dongle and didn't want it. I asked to speak to the manager who told me the same thing but hinted at other unspecified supply issues. He indicated there was a good possibility it would be resolved earlier but 9/16 was the current estimated ship date. He transferred me to the credit card department, who resolved the credit card issue by running it again.
After checking my order and seeing I didn't even have the dongle on there, I plan to call again on Tuesday to see if that changes their estimate for me. For what it's worth, my order status page still has "order processing" and 9/9 as a ship date. I am also upset that I was given the dongle justification, since it was not on my order.
Anyone have any advice on how to push for the concession? I ordered with the 10% off newsletter coupon. -

Considering that the whole August release date was crazy early to begin with, I'm not too mad. Sometimes I wish Lenovo would simply set their release dates to be more realistic in the first place like other OEMs do. I'll be happy to wait for a few more weeks for the world's thinnest 14 inch laptop, especially when its a ThinkPad. -
My order was made on August 16th for i5, 256g, 8gb. After multiple delays, I checked the status this morning and like a few others, it showed my order as being cancelled due to invalid config.
I tried calling their 866 number but it said their office was closed even though it was during their business hours. I tried to connect to their online reps, but when i chose the option to discuss my current order, it said the chat was offline. Magically, when I tried again, and chose the option to talk to the rep about placing an order, i was connected to a rep.
I asked the rep what's going on and to his credit, he was very helpful. He said that my order wasn't actually cancelled and asked me to not take any action as everyone will start getting emails next week regarding a new shipping info.
He also advised that the laptops were being shipped without the ethernet dongle and that they were going to send the dongle separately later.
P.S.- prior to this chat, I did bargain for $150 concession from another rep via phone and I got it. The rep tried to only give me $80 discount but I told him that other people were getting up to $150 and I was going to have to insist on $150. He agreed. So that's my advice. Just be firm and tell them you did some research and that's what others are getting. -
1. Date Ordered: 08/29/2012
2. Configuration: i5 / 8 GB RAM / 128 GB SSD
3. Shipped-To Location: PORTLAND
4. Estimated Ship Date (Original/Updated): Original: 09/04/2012
5. Actual Ship Date: N/A
6. Estimated Arrival Date: N/A
7. Actual Arrival Date: N/A
I haven't got any delay about my order.
I don't know whether my order will be delayed. If so, will I have the same supportive fact to ask for concession.
How long been delayed? -
I ordered on 8/15 -

FYI, my base model ordered 8/15 had ship date (don't remember), then 8/27, then 8/31, now as of this morning 9/3. Went from in production to order received. -
anyone here has same problem like me?
i placed my order 8/16, the order status always showed RTM for the fast few days but now change to order received. what's wrong? system error or something?
any thoughts? -
That brings my total price to $1,667.70, which is about $11 cheaper than the list price of a stock i5 / 8 GB / 128 GB with a 1 year depot warranty. An equivalent MacBook Air with a 3 year AppleCare warranty lists for $1848. -

I called this morning and was told that Lenovo is re-working "all" x1 carbon orders and should have it sorted out by Monday evening. The problem seems to be the dongle. When I told her my order did not include the ethernet wire she said it did not matter that all orders were to be reworked and several different status readings may happen over the weekend She did volunteer that they hoped that the ship dates would be sooner than what is shown on most orders. She could not offer a further discount but I am waiting on a call from a supervisor. We shall see. Actually, discount or not . . I'll wait on the x1 carbon.
