Just spoke with a Lenovo rep. Same story for me - Dongle is not available, expecting the laptop to ship by the third week of September. I originally ordered with the B&N Gold + Newsletter 10% off for a total of $999 pre tax for i5/4/128. He was able to give me a $40 discount for the delay.

Lenovo is not removing Ethernet dongles from our orders.
I ordered on the 14th and I need to wait until 16th. Is this date a hard date, maybe they will give me another date later! It is so annoying, it will be a month delay.
What I know is not to trust Lenovo, so basically until they actually ship the laptop I have no idea what the status of my order is. -
In a recent customer service conversation, I was told that all orders, dongle or not, are being held right now because the tech team wants to do a complete quality inspection of the product. The results of their re-evaluation of the X1 will be known by Sept. 16 and will be made available to customers on the website. It is unclear, at least to the customer service employees, how long after that announcement the product will ship, but the reps claim they won't have any firmer details until then.
To me, this information suggests that the ethernet dongle supply is not the main problem--I'm not sure how the limited availability of one accessory would necessitate a full re-inspection of a new product. Alternatively, the rep was just trying to use very general terms for what the supply team is doing to acquire ethernet dongles...but the language he used seemed to insinuate that the computer itself would have problems if it were to ship right now. -
-
If that's true (and lets not get into an argument on the honesty of the reps lol), then although its quite frustrating, I'd rather they check the quality before I get the machine, not after.
There's no question that quality inspections should have been done well before they allowed pre-orders, but if they actually acknowledge their error on Sept 16th I'll be (a little) less annoyed -
he seems entirely happy with his!
furthermore, since when do we take the telephone persons' word at "face value"? they push to get the sale, or for us to place the order, then drop the ball and push us over to their Philippines "after sales" team to handle everything. Due to heavy rains, their Philippines after sales team is severely under staffed, and people have had tremendous trouble getting through.
Nonetheless, I do not quite believe that these telephone ladies and gentlemen have really the clear word, or a clear idea, of what manufacturing is doing. If they were really having massive issues, one would expect a PR effort already in place to contain the information and to express it to the general public in a more palatable manner, if that is at all possible.
what do y'all think, may i ask?
please see forum.thinkpads.com:
forum.thinkpads.com • Thinkpad X1 Carbon arrived! -
You can easilly order X1 Carbon from resellers. It is hard to believe that they have quality problems. I haven't seen 8GB version though.
Nothing should be believed. -
I'll agree that the sales team is probably just getting optimistic information from the higher-ups about estimated dates and whatnot. The issues in the Philippines is probably affecting some components, obviously the dongle is part of the issue, but I'd imagine there's something else going on in addition to that.
As for concessions, I called to get a concession of some kind and was offered the 14w Thinkpad sleeve. Which, luckily, will be delivered on Thursday.
I'm irritated, but happy enough waiting. At the end of the day, this is the machine I want. My listed ship date is tomorrow, if it's not shipped I'll try to get another concession of some kind. It has been 17 days since my original order, after all. -
I don't think we should believe a single word these CSRs say.
I mean just look back in this thread, page 35, post #348 by ginsu. His unit is shipped already! (destination in Canada)
These CSRs just want us out of the door, off the phone, off their bloody screen.
Anyone agrees?
-
Personally, I'm not going to believe anything I hear unless it's posted on Lenovo's website or emailed to all us pre-ordering customers.
-
You can't trust Order Detail page and sales reps, there is now way to get any information.
-
I went from Order Received to In Production with a new CC authorization and ship date of 9/6. My previous ship date up to this AM was 9/2. I ordered on the 14th. Guess we will see what happens.
-
I've been following along since Day 1 (Well before the 14th).
Against all odds, my X1 has reportedly shipped, and I should have it by next Monday. So, we'll see.
Details of my Order:
Ordered 8/14, ~9am PST
i5/8/256
Shipping to Colorado -

Well, I now see two people here have reported that their X1Cs have shipped.
Definitely good news..
My order status was just updated within the past hour with a estimated ship date of 9/6. So, after ordering it around 10pm PDT on 8/14 (i5/8gb/256gb), and seeing my estimated order status go from 8/22 to 8/26 to 8/30 to 9/2 and now to 9/6. So today, three weeks after placing the order and 13 days after my initial shipping estimate, I'm still looking at over a week for it to be in my hands (9/13 est. arrival now).
Based on the fact that there are reports of shipped units now, I'm vaguely confident that it will ship out on Thursday or earlier, but I really wouldn't be surprised if a week from now I was still grinding my teeth.
If it is indeed true that they're shipping them out of order as well, I'll be additionally disappointed. -
My order status has also been changed. Ship date is estimated at 9/5, delivery date is estimated at 9/12, and the status is changed to "in production" from "RTM"
-
-
I just checked my order status, and there has been no change... Ship date is still estimated to be 10/23 and delivery date to be 10/30. For an order placed on 8/16, and an email stating that I should expect my order sooner than the earlier proposed 9/3 ship and 9/9 delivery dates? I'm all kinds of confused. I'll give my order till sunset, and if there's no order status change for the better, then I'll email the person that responded to my earlier inquiry and request my order to be canceled. It's not that I'm in a super fired up hurry for this system to arrive (goodness knows I've waited long enough for one that checked all of my boxes), it is just that I am a little miffed at how all of this has been handled. I suppose I just expected a little more transparency. Pity.
-
Has anyone confirmed that date 09/03 is correct? Because as far as I know the laptop should ship around 16th.
-
I love the excitement in this thread.
Everyone dying to get there X1C. -
Everyone realize that your ESTIMATED shipping date is not likely to be accurate. I ordered on the 14th and have been given dates from 8/21 > 8/27 > 8/30 > 9/2 > and now 10/23. CS rep told me not to refer to it since it is automated and just keeps getting pushed due to the delay.
Like many others, I was told that there is a shortage issue with the ethernet dongle and something related to bluetooth that I can't remember. But the shipment will not be sent later than THE WEEK of 9/16. So really, it can come any day now. -
I heard the same thing. It is the worst customer service I have ever experienced, if it wasn't ThinkPad I would have already ordered different laptop, and not from Lenovo.
-
through the grapevine, i heard something very similar:
that parts will arrive only shortly before 9/16th, and assembly will be completed just prior, so shipping will be around 9/16th. -
However, for my order in particular...I submitted it last Thursday and added my shipping address and corrected it with Lenovo on Friday but my status still says order processing.
Where are ya'll checking the status? Just through the link in the order confirmation email? Or through the website? Linked page hasn't changed and I can't get into the login one on the website...times out when loading status page. -
Yeah I check from the email confirmation. The site times out for me too.

Received a shipping notification email at midnight. UPS label was just created with no further details. (Base model to NY, ordered on 14th)

Congratulations!

Mine has hit customs in Louisville, Kentucky...I would have thought this would have automatically happened electronically...
-
Can you please put a few pictures when it arrives?
btw, I think we bought on the same day: day 1. -
I'll definitely post pictures!
Not sure when I'll get it though. When I ordered it, the shipping estimate was such that it would have gotten to me when I was visiting family, so I had it shipped there. Now, not so much. I called Lenovo to have them change the address, and they said "Sure, but it could take 48 hours", so, worst case, Monday if I have to have my family ship it again.
BTW, it did clear customs. -

Well, just got an email telling me my laptop will ship "within 6 business days", and that this was "great news".
I'm on my fifth shipping date in the status page, which is currently listed as tomorrow (9/6), and I had hopes that might actually happen. I'm somehow less convinced now, and given their track record, it'll ship in exactly 6 business days, heh.
So I ordered the i5/8gb/256gb on 8/14, and it sounds like it'll be a full month from the order date that I actually get it. Really disappointed in Lenovo.. -
Today, I called the sales rep, and without getting angry I asked them for concession (which I got. 5%) and when the shipping will take place. Apparently the guy said, ALL X1 Carbon are NOT shipped (clearly he doesn't know the two people who are on their way to receive the beautiful machine), and told me that mine should be shipped BEFORE the 17th. And he gave me a personal guarantee that it would arrive before the 21st. which is the end of next next week..... I AM JUST WAITING.... and my school started like last week. SO i am surviving on a library computer...... PAtience is a virtue. -
My email wasn't automated. I've been in contact with a manager who promised to keep me updated whenever he had new info. To quote his email:
After my last post, I again learnt that my credit card has another pre-auth on it. So that means they've held the funds on my card three times now (with one already removed by Lenovo). I'm asking now for them to remove another one of the charges..
Happily, I'm at a point where I can just laugh about all this now, and my friends are certainly making enough jokes about it -
-
Just and update on my order: a few of days ago my estimated ship date slipped a day to 9/4/12. I called the rep today who said that it will ship "in 9/16 or before days". After some clarification, I believe he was saying that the computer would ship before 9/16. The poor guy is probably repeating what he's heard and my requests for more information revealed that some part which used to not be available now is, and is being installed on the 'warehouse floor.'
I wasn't angry at all and just asked for a discount due to delay, and without missing a beat he offered a 5% discount. He said I'd get an email confirmation of it after my computer shipped, but wouldn't add it to my order history, or anything else.
I looked at other computers today - wondered if a non-ultraportable from lenovo maybe would be better: more battery life, storage, etc. Still debating, but for now, holding on to see if these guys actually ship. Good luck everyone! -
I ordered the base model (for $999) on 8/19. -
Pardon my ignorance. I keep seeing references to a $999 base model price. Can I ask how you guys are getting it down to $999? I know the prices on Lenovo's site fluctuate but I haven't been able to get it anywhere below $1,200 for what seems to be the most basic options (using the newsletter discount).
-
People were stacking the B&N discount and the Newsletter discount...
I don't believe they work any more. -
The really great prices that you see in these posts were prices offered in the initial offering of this product coupled with various discounts from Barnes and Noble and others when it was launched back in the middle of August. The product continues to not ship and buyers are able to beat Lenovo up for discounts on the prices they already received. When the Buyers finally receive their machines most will wait almost a month but will receive a fantastic price on a great machine hopefully!!

Scroll down, you'd see a section for Private Messages, as well as parts regarding whether or not others are able to email you. -
No luck there, I swear. But I did enable email if that works.

So mine was just updated from est. ship date 9/5 to 9/9 with est delivery (which has been blank until now) 9/16.

I originally ordered 8/18. It was mysteriously cancelled on 8/30. I found out about the cancellation when calling for a status update/further price concession. I rebooked on the 30th, and the new order turned out to be missing the ethernet dongle. -
your email thingie did not work, but your Private Message thing DID work. So, kindly please check your Private Messages here on this site, and you'll see at least one
