You want the 830; not the 840 unless it's the 840 PRO.

That is the problem. There are very few places in the USA to see one.

I was eyeing and waiting for this for a long, long time until I see the "screen door" problem. That's more like an exit door for me on Thinkpad after being a loyal fan for around 15 years. Got myself an Acer Aspire S7 instead and never looked back since, well perhaps until the next X1CT upgrade to full HD IPS.
-
My X1TC has shipped! I'm sure others will be receiving theirs soon as well, so I expect to see comparisons of the screen with the X1T shortly. Otherwise I'll post my own if no one else has by the time I receive it

Thanks so much! -
Just curious, what were the specs on yours? I'm curious since mine was a custom model and I'm wondering if that has any effect. -

Well I just chatted with someone at lenovo.com and they said that my updated shipping date is 12/31, despite the order status page still saying today, 12/26. They said the cause was heavy demand. Who knows. Hopefully it doesn't keep getting pushed back.
-
Ugh. Sounds like I will be in same boat. Oh well, not a big deal.

Well, I won't bring this up again, but wanted to mention it for those of us that are considering jumping ship. I went out and tested the Yoga today and fell in love with the bright screen. The laptop doesn't have the slick feel of the carbon, but wasn't as bad as I expected. The screen is gorgeous, and as I've said before, if I am going to upgrade laptops, I feel like I need to get something more than an incremental upgrade. Processor speeds or carbon fiber materials aren't enough, and since the ultrabooks at best have trimmed .5lb off of laptop sizes, even that seems minor now, especially when they package the ultrabook laptop with a big/heavy charger.
Yoga: screen is awesome. And with the money I would save, I would likely be able to get 8GB RAM and larger hard drive. The ability to flip it over and use as a tablet does have functionality (especially in bed, or watching tv, and I would say especially on planes when you get the dreaded seat in front of you), but I will say its awkward to use as you can feel the keys on the back when you hold it. The keyboard isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but it does feel cramped vertically (like they smushed the rows of key together a little too close, and stretched it out horizontally. I think I could get past this, as typing wasn't that bad, but people who type a TON, might want to consider it. The lack of a backlit keyboard on the Yoga sucks, but since the X1 Carbon's backlit wasn't automatic and had to be activated each time, I didn't use it as much as I thought I would. It's also nice that you can go and play with the Yoga at Best Buy.
Anyway, just some food for thought as we sit here waiting for reports and reviews. Hey Lenovo, guess what. I wouldn't even be derailing this thread if you had put a decent screen on the X1 Carbon....or the verizon 3G you promised...or the glass trackpad....oh geez, don't get me started all over again.
Anyway, happy holidays all, and can't wait to hear about the X1CT. Haven't committed to either one yet.... -

The yoga was a contender, but I ended up with the regular X1 Carbon with WWAN (it was a must have for me). In the end the screen should suffice for my work. -
Mine also shipped today. If the screen is not up to my standards then its going back I am not spending 2k on something that is just OK.

I have the yoga. I never use the flip feature. Super gimmicky. Keyboard sucks, track pad isn't good either. Wifi signal is also kinda weak. I'm returning mine.

I talked to the other Microsoft employee X1 Carbon touch owner today and he said it's the best laptop he has ever owned (incl macbook pro). He loves the display but just wished it was higher resolution. I am super happy that it's 1600 x 900 becuase I don't want things to be super small either.
X1 Carbon touch has everything going for it in comparison to the Yoga 13. Rapid charge, design profile, weight, touchpad, keyboard, display and even battery if you pick the i5 model (5.5 hours is really good in my books).
My order went into production yesterday. Shipping estimate is 10th Jan 2013 with estimated delivery date of 17th January 2013 in New Zealand which is a long time. What gives? Does it really takes them 2 ~ 3 weeks just to assemble machines? I've been a dell user before this and have bought several machines off them and production was completed in less than 2 days. -

Well that's encouraging. Give it an IPS and I'll love it forever. Just an FYI, Yoga appears to be the same weight and longer battery life, but everything else you said is accurate. -

DrMcNinja said: ↑Did you get the battery life from the person who already has a X1CT? If it's really 5.5h, that's ok but I'm afraid it might be less. Isn't that what happened with X1C? Lenovo was quoting 8h or so and the reality turned out to be more like 3h. This is probably my biggest concern regarding the X1CT, maybe even bigger than the screen.. Also, I don't remember right now: is it possible to get X1CT with i5 + 8GB ram?Click to expand...
I was just reading through the X1 Carbon review at hardwareheavens.com and they managed to get just over 3 hours with intensive CPU usage and 6.5 hours with web browsing and some media playback.
As long as I get 5 hours on the touch model, I am going to be a happy camper. -
techwhizard said: ↑He said he never really noticed the battery life on it but will report back now to me with findings. He has the i7 version which will chew the battery at a higher rate compared to the i5 model.

Mine shipped as well, I imagine it will show up just after the New Year. Looking forward to getting a firshand look at a machine where I have something at stake, keep or not. If it doesn't turn out to be as good as I expect, which I'm really hoping isn't the case, I will probably look towards the Clover Trail Atom tablets. A lighter more mobile Yoga with better battery is very appealing to me now.

A request to anyone that recieves one of the first units of X1C Touch on this forum. Please do an unboxing video

Is there any penalty returning the Touch if I don't like it?
BTW, have you guys checked out the Acer S7? Yes it doesn't have the same keyboard as Lenovo (I wish!!) but it dang thin, high res, and IPS too. I only wish I could play around with one but I don't know where I can find one to try out. -

DrMcNinja said: ↑Yeah, I think I might just do the same. Go test out the Yoga and if I like it, buy it. I read in another thread that the paint might be chipping easily but oh well. The screen, the upgradability, and the battery life all seem superior to X1CT. I don't see how a better chassis (and better looks), 1" of screen, and a fingerprint reader are worth an extra $500-700.Click to expand...
The X1CT has limitations for sure, but I'm hoping it gets enough things right that its a keeper. FWIW, for us in Canada the price difference ends up being ~170. The Yoga is only available in i5/8gb config for 1199, and I managed to get the X1CT on boxing day sale prices with cashback for 1366.. this is with the i7 and 8gb. You might be able to find similar deals in your part of the world. -

ammarr said: ↑Depends on your requirements. The Yoga has some great features for an ultrabook.. upgradability, battery life etc. However, with a keyboard that is just not good enough and weak single band wifi, and paint chipping off, I found it to be very frustrating. Go see a demo unit at bestbuy for the paint chipping issue.. not pretty at all.

The expected delivery date was pretty accurate. Props to Lenovo for not giving me delay after delay this time. During the holidays even. -
Dayton said: ↑Agree with Yoga assertions though I didn't experience issues with the finish other than it staining easily. What kept me from keeping it even though the screen, 360 hinge. and battery life were all great is that the keyboard and NIC weren't good enough for work. The X1CT should excel in both these categories.Click to expand...

ammarr said: ↑Yes this is exactly right. I didn't have issues with the paint either but the demo unit at BB convinced me to not take a risk. The wifi and keyboard were just not good enough for regular use. If lenovo had gotten these 2-3 things right, it would have been a great buy for the price.Click to expand...

The X1CT has just come online in Australia and I have noticed to upgrade from 1yr Depot Warranty to 3yrs Next Business Day Onsite + Sealed Battery Replacement + Keep Your Drive is only AUD$150 which is very very good value. The battery can be replaced once under this warranty and the hard drive multiple times. Now if Im not mistaken, if my 256GB SSD drive fails I am 100% within my rights to have a brand new drive shipped to me and my previous drive does not have to be returned to Lenovo. This is valid for multiple years and multiple drives. Good little earner perhaps?
T&C:
KYD: Under the terms of the Lenovo Limited Warranty, when Lenovo replaces a defective part, that part becomes the property of Lenovo. If a drive fails and it is still under warranty, KYD enables you to maintain custody of your data, eliminating the need to track failed hard drives in transit and eliminating associated paperwork. KYD covers multiple drives and failures, so data within individual PCs and Servers remains protected.
So I am a bit confused they do say faulty parts become property of Lenovo, but with drives youre allowed to keep the data. So i assume this means the drive?

Well. My original ship date was 12/26, but as that day came and went, I chatted with a Lenovo rep online. He said that the ship date had been pushed back to 12/31, even though my order status page still said 12/26. Which is OK. This morning I refreshed my order status page to see if it caught up, only to see the ship date jump ahead to 1/10/2013, an extra 10 days of delay. So I popped into another chat to ask about it, and the rep said he was still showing 12/31, and that the 1/10 date I was seeing "may just be the worst case scenario." Which seems kind of odd. But I guess I'll still assume that what the rep sees is correct, which is a 12/31 date. I'm hoping I don't see any more delays before Monday.

Which SSD did you go with?

I have the same changed dates on my status page. I was very upset when I saw this. I'm working on a Yoga with a bad wifi card and I really need a functional business laptop. I ordered an i7 with 8g and 240 ssd, fyi.
