I was so close to ordering an X200 back when they had the employee discount. I held off thinking that there would be more display options (LED, higher resolutions screens) in the future.
Now I'm in kind of the same dilemma. I definitely want the WXGA+ LED option, more for the extra resolution than the LED backlight, but I also want the normal, standard power, faster CPU's of the X200 than what is being offered on the X200s. My ideal would be the X200 with the WXGA+ LED Backlit screen. Here's hoping they'll allow that kind of configuration when the new models are released!

Bad news, My laptop is stuck in customs in Kentucky. Lenovo forgot to send invoices with the packages. Apparently in order to save shipping money with Express shipping, they send it "world ease" express ups which bunches up a whole lot of orders in one load. Once customs gets a hold of the load, if there is something wrong with one of the packages, the whole thing gets frozen. IN this case, many of the invoices were missing and mine is stuck in limbo.. You would think after being delayed as long as mine has, that I would catch a break. The Shinza Zeroshock III sleeve arrived in two days from Japan.. I know for some of you who did order X200's did get them on time so I don't know of any recent problems like this. I did some searching and found multiple situations online with Lenovo about problems with invoices being sent late and people having to wait a week or more to get their computers after the ship date even though they paid for express.. Ground shipping would have been cheaper and faster in some cases...
-
There is really not much of a reason to upgrade shipping options. A lenovo supervisor advised me that it was only a day or so faster in most cases. And if you have issues like this then it is moot! Sorry to hear that though. Mine did make a stop in KY but it immediately arrived in CA very early the next day.
-
Yea, I ordered mine during the employee discount because it was so cheap. I am also like you, I would love the x200 with a WXGA+ LED Backlit screen. The extra battery life of the x200s is just not worth much to me, law of diminishing returns. I am probably going to keep the x200 and be content with it, given the price.
-
Just wanted to post...
ordered 9/12, and just got the shipment notification today, and my account says to check back tomorrow for the tracking info. I can't believe its coming so quickly actually...I am not even prepared for it. -
Don't worry. It isn't like a new child...mostly.
-
actually,
I am swapping the drives. I ordered the x200 with an 80gb to save some dough. Going to swap it with my 250gb in my x61s. That is what I meant. I am not one of those people who are obsessed with their gadgets.
-
. Different type of obsession though considering it is a thinkpad
.
-
ordered on 13th, called back and said to me it has not been shipped yet. need to call back on monday...really poor and slow processing from lenovo
-
I ordered on Sept. 9th, and it has been back and forth on credit approval since the woman on the phone typed my billing adress wrong. It's the same as the shipping adress, but she managed to do a typo on the adress, and put in a random phone number instead of mine.
So I got an e-mail from credit dep that I had to call them with the right info. Ever tried calling Lenovo's credit dep.? They have maybe one woman there. Machine tells you to leave a message, which is never responded. I had to sit on the phone with cust. service for a good 25 min to make them put in a request on getting it changed.
All in all, Lenovo sales rep typo's caused me at least 4 more days of waiting. As the waiting wasn't long enough to begin with.
EDIT: I see that they just sent the additional power supply and port replicator, so I guess the credit-thing is over with. Hmmm, if there's no parts out of stock, it can actually be shipped before the est. shipment date, 9/30. -
Wow, you guys are scaring the hell out of me. So, what is the best way to order the x200? I mean, what should I do to avoid shipping/billing problems? Obviously, make sure they have the right info but what is the best way to ensure that? Just place my order on-line so that way everything is on written record? I plan to order within the next few weeks and don't want it to get screwed up. Thanks for the help.
-
I called them a dozen times. Has anyone ever had a person answer there? I think they may just let everything go to voicemail, which is obnoxious.
-
Don't order the 9 cell battery at first... Order the laptop with the 6 cell as that seems to be the one least chosen. Choose basic shipping as it is faster than their Ease Express 2 day garbage which gets stuck in customs for days on end as mine is on a regular basis according to UPS.. I'm very upset with Lenovo for charging full price for the express shipping and not sending the package seperately (the reason they get held at customs is they send bunches of packages going to different states in one big bundle) and then they mess up on the invoice's for just one or two of the packages delays all of them.. So they steal money away charging the full price for Express shipping and then not even pay for weekend shipping and do the Express Ease option of bundling.. Very bad on Lenovo's part.. Lenovo should take a lesson from Dell and HP who do no such thing and never have these logistic problems with customs..
So it seems it is a toss-up wether you get your system quickly or it gets stuck for months like mine with Lenovo. Someone in ths thread ordered last week and recieved their days later.. I don't understand how or why mine was delayed as long before shipping in the first place but it was...Good luck on ordering yours. If you are in a hurry to get it, look at Dell's offerings and HP's.. -
If you order a preconfigured model, it gets shipped more quickly. The more customization you do, the better your chances are of it taking longer - particularly if one of those parts run out after you order.
-
I called this morning and kept getting the machine. I finally got a person on the phone on the 4th try. Just keep trying.
I paid for the 2-day shipping. Should I call to change it to basic shipping? Would that delay my order? Any thoughts? -
It can if you are not already verified by the credit department.
-
I've been verified, so I'll go ahead and request for a change in shipping method.
-
I dont really see why you'd change your shipping if you already ordered it. What's the difference, $20? Do you really think there's less of a chance of it getting delayed with express than regular? I suppose if it makes you feel better, go for it...
-
Well, reading how some people have had their orders delayed by customs with 2 day shipping, and some with basic shipping have received their orders early (fast shipping + no customs delays), then why not? $20 dollars may not be a lot to you, but that's like two meals.
-
sorry, didn't realize you had originally decided to go hungry in order to get it a few days earlier. by all means switch away!
-
err...i paid for basic...and they upped me to the UPS 2 day haha. And now my package is stuck in customs. Yay.
-
Yours must be stuck with mine then... They haven't cleared customs as of yet and may not even clear on Monday...
-
Just cleared for me. Left KY and is in Baltimore now (where I am from). If today was a weekday, I would have gotten it today I think.
Supermans, what is the progress on yours? -
How do you know it cleared customs? Did you call and ask because all mine says is Import Scan and nothing else.. Remember I ordered mine on 8/05/08 and it is 9/20/08 today with an estimated ship date of 9/23/08 with express 2 day shipping.. Lenovo didn't pay for weekend shipping even though I'm sure we all did if we paid their advertised 2 day price...

EDIT: I just called UPS and they say Lenovo has still not sent them the paperwork needed to clear the package so it is still being held. I was advised that it should have been cleared by now and to call Lenovo and tell them to send the paperwork to clear the package. This is ridiculuos.
On a side note, I'm glad your package was released and will be ready to ship by Monday.
Pray for me so it shows up by Tuesday at the latest as I've waited longer than anyone else on this forum for this particular laptop.

Mine just cleared in KY too and is now in Memphis which I am from. Mine shipped only on the 19th as well. That's pretty fast for coming from China and I only ordered on the 12th.

and the package is now in 'exception' status, instead of 'in transit' like the past week. anyone know what that latest message means? -
Well, mine was supposed to be shipped out today, in time to get here before I move on Saturday, but the rep just told me it has been delayed (because of the battery shortage) until the "week of the 30th".
Awesome. -
A 9 cell battery shortage? I got mine before the expected ship date, so it must be something else.
Exception status means some kind of extenuating circumstance. I would give them a call. -
Must be a conspiracy
-
hpfalcon,
Our laptops are probably sitting together sipping coffee and eating donuts at this point and have had lots of time to get aquainted..
Either that or they both are mad as hell because they are being treated like prison inmates held wrongfully for crimes they didn't commit.
They didn't even get the one phonecall and all they can do is yell.."GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!". All while Dell's, HP's and MAC's sail right thru customs laughng away... Oh well.. I'll be surprised if I get it this week...
It seems now they stopped scanning every individual package on the latest message. Now its the whole bunch at one time.. That is not a good sign..
This is atrocious logistics management as all the Lenovo team needed to do last week was re-send all the proper paperwork..Invoices, etc.. 148 packages in total and only a few of us on these forums.. I'm not going to cancel after all this waiting, however I will definately think twice about ordering from lenovo again...

According to UPS, part of the package has been cleared, yet further clearance is needed??? SO you got me what other info Lenovo needs to send them.. Once it clears, it should tkae UPS 12 hours or so to get it to us since it is 2 day shipping and the first day was to get to that point.. -
I feel for you guys
.
-
You know, I don't believe there was a 9 cell shortage anymore.. I just think they had too many orders and they came up with an excuse after the first month and half passed by to tell the customers... The same goes with this shipping.. There are problems with the whole structure of the company at this point in my opinion. Logistics Management need to go back to training and learn how to use Access/Excell Data sheets and learn to print accurate invoice data when it onvolves multiple orders.. Lenovo could have avoided this if they shipped the packages seperately using express shipping as only a few would have had problems.. However by choosing UPS Express Ease, they get to charge us full price for express shipping however they get a discount for bunching up the packages.. If I were management at Lenovo, I'd take a good look at how Lenovo is destroying the legacy that once was IBM THinkpads and the brand in general.. No matter how good the build quality is, there is no excuse for delays on both ends for this long of a time.. If there was a 9 cell shortage, they needed to take the link off so people couldn't order it... However I ordered mine on the first day it was available.. So they should have offered all of us an option to switch to a battery like the 6 or 4 cell during the building stage so we could get it faster.. Or giving us the option to order a different model laptop entirely.. Did they do this.. nope.. Overall Lenovo is a porrly run company with some good customer service employees but very poor service behind the scenes. I feel sorry for the customer service reps that have to put up with a company as poor as this has been.. OK my rant is done...
-
The only thing I can think of is that there is a shortage of topcases with the fingerprint scanner. That is the one thing I didn't get while all of you guys probably did.
-
IT IS A CONSPIRACY
This guy here figured it out - the problem is Lenovo having a lack of respect for their customerz!
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=298703 -
My accessories was shipped with Express (at least, that's what it said on the UPS site), and it was cleared through customs in KY within hours...on Sunday!
And I didn't opt for any upgraded shipping. -
There is no conspiracy.. It's as simple as bad management and making bad decisions which are costing them future customers. Everybody ordered X200's including companies in bulk with pre-configured configurations to make it easier to build. Lenovo did not order enough batteries ahead of time and continued to sell X200's on their website even after the shortage and many weeks delay. However if you notice, people who ordered pre-configured systems from other companies at a lower price got theirs on time.. You see, Lenovo decided they were better customers than us individual clients so they delay our orders for theirs. In other words all of the batteries went to them first..then they run out and we get shafted even though we ordered our on day 1... No conspiracy here, just choosing one group over another.. Lenovo has lost me as a customer because of this.. Simple as that.. To make matters worse, after a two month delay, Lenovo screws up the shipping part of it and the whole thing is delayed further. If we were important customers they would want to keep, if I were them I would be offering compensation in the hundreds to each and every one of us that had to go thru this mess..
-
Guys come on.. this ALWAYS happens with any manufacturer for people who order early. I remember on these forums when the Dell XPS m1330 came out, people had to wait over a month to receive theirs.
-
This is what happens when too many orders occur and a company doesn't have a limit.. Then they allocate all their first laptop builds to the massive orders of other online retailers and those of us that ordered from their own website get pushed back.. They don't care about us as much since we are not buyying 500 at once.. Anyways.. Good news.. all 148 packages have cleared customs and will ship tommorow.. So the wait is over.. Thank God..
Lenovo made many mistakes with this logisitcally and all is definately not forgiven. There is no excuse for 2 months after ordering for it to get to the buyer... -
Wow, 2 months?? That's crazy man... I can definitely understand your frustration.
I just ordered mine last night, let's see what's gonna happen with that.. I got the 4 cell battery and no fingerprint reader, so I hope it's not delayed too much!
Unlike you guys I can't track my order online, so I have to call in to get the status lol -
i can't track my order online too... so i call every other day
I'm at 4 weeks now... and + 2 weeks of not ordering it earlier due to the false information given by lenovo (they said that the webcam option was taken off due to unavailability, but the real reason was that they made it a standard option). -
No, I didn't get the fingerprint scanner.
So yesterday the guy told me it would be delayed until next week. Today the website lists my ship date as October 7th! So my order went from a 2-week delivery time to a month. I really hope they are being conservative and it still might go out next week. I hate all of you who have your computer... -
Don't know if this is old news, but my sales rep at Lenovo just said that they have a delay on all batteries due to a fire at the warehouse, but that they are almost caught up. Don't know if she meant the fire earlier at the Korean producer (was an article on that here at NBR.com), or a fire at Lenovo's warehouse. Kind of hard to understand when the english of the sales reps is a little so-so
Oh, and she said it would hopefully not be any more delays on my order. -
I ordered my X200 on 9/12, and it shipped yesterday. 9 cell battery and all.
-
I'd love to know how BS like this works. One guy orders it and waits weeks and weeks. During this weeks and weeks another orders and gets in within a week.
Where's the logic here! -
That's awesome! I ordered mine the 12th as well. Had some credit check issues becuase of Lenoco sales rep typos, though. Hope it ships before the wekend!!
-
I chatted with a customer rep online to ask about my order. It's suppose to ship out tomorrow. The rep said it was delayed and would ship out 10/02. Her reason was that their is a back-to-school rush and a fire at the battery warehouse. -_-;
I went back online and chatted with another rep and he said that my order is delayed because there is a screen shortage. Ship date is still 10/02.
I hope they are wrong, but I won't hold my breath. -
just got my x200, (literally) havent unpacked it yet. you get yours, supermans?
-
Dude, how could you be surfing online when you have an x200 waiting in the box to be opened??
-
eh had to check for some important email when i got home, and this site was already open ;p
-
I ordered mine but haven't got it yet.
X200 - Have any shipped yet?
