So does that mean it's cleared customs? or are there still several steps before it gets here? -
Me too! Mine left Anchorage at 2:46pm, so I'm hoping to receive in Ann Arbor, Michigan tomorrow which maybe kinda optimistic.
This is my first time ordering a Lenovo, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. I ordered mine on 9/17 with p8600, 2 gb ddr3, 80 gb hd (which is going to be upgraded to a 250 gb, 7200 rpm, 16 mb cache), and a 6-cell. I also bought the 13" Incase Nylon Plus for it. I hope it fits! -
Any suggestions on what I should do when I first get it? How to first time properly charge the battery, etc...
-
sudeepr71,
Let me know if that Incase sleeve fits your X200. -
-
Greetings:
While my ThinkPad X200 came via UPS today, and I was happy to open the box and feel lightness of the X200.
Thank you. -
Awesome speed from Lenovo one the units leave China.
Shipped out of China on Sat 27th Sept, Arrived and delivered to Oregan 30th September.
FINALLY.....3 weeks in production, 3 days to deliver... -
I received mine today too
-
I received mine in the morning. It's a pretty nice little laptop. Sturdy everywhere except the area near the mouse buttons. That area exhibits a lot of flex.
The 13" Incase Nylon Plus fits perfectly with the x200, with a little room to spare for the charger. I can maybe squeeze a notebook next to the computer, but thats about it. -
-
I won't have time until the weekend, but yeah I'll take some pictures and post them
-
AM delivery for me too. Nuked Vista basic and installed Vista Business 64 without any hiccups. Nice little machine.
All other programs I installed from ISOs of the original CD/DVDs. IsoRecorder easily makes ISOs of discs and MagicDisc works great in Vista64 to mount the ISOs as virtual CD/DVDs. Good for taking movies along to watch on your X200 too.

I ordered mine on last Saturday 27th and I got a schedule date of Sept 30(today). However, I haven't heard anything related to shipping yet so I guess mine is being delayed.. Or does the schedule date mean something else? I was actually surprised that I got an early schedule date, especially after hearing other ppl's orders were constantly delayed by lenovo.
Btw, my config is..
CPU P8600
Ram DDR3 3gb
OS Vista Business
HDD 160gb 7200rpm
Intel 5300 wireless & BT
9cell batt -
Hey Art,
How'd you end up installing the new OS? As soon as my hard drive comes, I plan on putting Vista Ultimate or XP Pro (not sure about this because of the video issues). I can d/l either through the University as an .iso file, but not sure were to go from there. Hmm..maybe I should do some research on this.. -
sudeepr71,
I installed the OS with an external DVD. A few months ago I bought a USB hard drive adapter that lets me plug in 3.5", 2.5" and SATA drives into a USB port. Works great for getting data off old hard drives and using a DVD drive in emergency situations.
Supposedly you can install Vista from a USB key. That was my original plan but didn't have the time to mess with it. The BIOS did recognized my key as a boot device and even showed it by product name. It should work well for a key based Linux dist.
Make sure to go to Lenovos website and download all the drivers you'll need before nuking the system. The bluetooth is being a little cranky to install but everything else is working great.

w00t! I just received it today! But I'm still at school, so I won't be able to play with it until I get home
-
I am typing this on my new x200! This is my first Thinkpad ever, and I absolutely LOVE it.
-The keyboard is AMAZING
-Screen is very bright - I am running it at 12/15. As far as I'm concerned, the colours look great - way better than my old Inspiron 630m. Also, there are no dead pixels!
-This machine is LIGHT
-Looks way nicer and more sleek in person - the pictures really don't do it justice.
-I've been using it for maybe an hour so I'm still trying to get used to the trackpoint, but I'm slowly getting better at it - very slowly
I love this machine.. amazing. I'm glad I didn't get the x200s, I think this resolution is just perfect. 1440x900 would have destroyed my eyes.
Edit: Did I mention that the keyboard is AMAZING?? Wow I just love typing on this -
-
lol yea i'm pretty shocked too, i wasn't expecting it! But hey, your system is better than mine
btw, this is the first time that I think Cleartype looks pretty good! It looked like crap on my old laptop, really blurry and it hurt my eyes. -
-
Mine is here too
I'm having a really hard time adjusting to vista though. I've been using XP for so many years, it's just hard. I do have the XP recovery cds so I could trash this but I feel compelled to try it out, maybe it is time for a change~ Keyboard is fantastic.
-
Edit: Oh i got my 2gb Ram today... but no laptop lol how ironic. -
vintage321: Sure, just let me know what angles u wanna see and what components u want with the closest detail, if u want the screen on or off, etc.
I'm not that great of a photographer tho lol
btw, even my sister in high school said that she likes the keyboard - and i hadn't even said anything to her about it lol -
Thanks Faruk. Some close up front and side views would be awesome, along with a corner view (45 deg from front) would be great!!
thanks -
Any comments on the quality of the screen? Is the light uniform throughout the screen?
-
Anyone having any luck installing xp or vista from a usb stick or external hard drive? I've been trying everything, and I just keep getting "No valid operating system".
-
the bios probably doesn't allow booting from an external hard drive/usb stick
you will have to install windows from an external dvd drive -
-
hey guys, glad to hear you are starting to get your machines.
There is a x200 discussion thread at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=296363
If you are interested in pictures and some discussion about the laptop from others who have received them earlier. -
alot of bios's do not allow booting an operating system from an external hard drive or usb flash drive. some allow it to be enabled through the bios, but others don't allow it at all.
so i woudl suggest checking the bios and see if it can be enabled....but the reason i say that i likely doesn't allow that is usually it is default enabled, and if it doesn't work from the start - it likely doesn't allow the option in the first place
if it doesn't allow it, simply use an external drive to instal a fresh copy of windows/osx/linux -
-
I installed FreeBSD from a usb dvd drive. -
-
almost all bios's allow for installing an operating system from a usb external dvd drive
but what some don't do, or atleast ironically in the last 4 laptops i've had - they don't allow booting an operating system from an external hard drive.
guess i based it off my laptops but they were pretty popular laptops so who knows!
all of them allowed to install something from an external drive though -
Well if you installed it off of a usb device...that means you had to initially boot from it. Now I suppose the scenario could be very well be placed in to some hardware...as I know some OEM vendors tried to lock out XP installs on vista machines (hardware based) and some tweaking was needed.
-
To my knowledge, as long as a the BIOS supports the USB HDD profile (which I guess an absolute of majority of the newer BIOSes do), you will be able to boot an operating system from an external drive.
The problem is that XP & Vista cannot be installed to boot from external USB drives, unless you either patch the installation cd or use the usboot service for conversion. Most later Linux derivatives install just fine and directly to e.g. USB flash drives.
If your BIOS does not support boot from USB HDD (meaning its an ancient one) but supports USB CD boot, you still can boot operating systems, such as Windows PE derivatives and Linux Live CD variants. -
i think it's just more of a configuration issue then anything.... aka.. what the master boot records setup for the os....
but i can't guarantee my reasoning... i haven't tried using xp or vista.. but i have done it with ubuntu on my laptop and desktop... so who knows...
going back on topic... STUPID LAPTOP HAS NOT ARRIVED YET... should be here on monday though.... i'm going to go to class... drive home wait for it then head back to class.. (i'm such a loser).... but ya.. on monday it'll be 40 days... FORTY DAYS! T.T -
Waiting for the release of: ThinkPad X200 s with Integrated Verizon Mobile Broadband (3G)

if the x200s is like the x200s in which if you don't buy wwan for it - you can still install a pci-e wwan card and it will automatically work because the antennas are prebuilt in.
i doubt it is, otherwise the x200s would be selling wwan as an option now - but you never know -
The X200 recognizes my USB flash drive in the boot list, by the actual product name. I had a USB DVD handy so I didn't mess around with using it to install Vista.
-Art -
I could get the x200 to recognize my flash drive by name also, but when I try booting the operating system from it, I get the error:
"Please remove any media drives. Press any key to restart."
Any suggestions? I really don't want to buy an external dvd drive just to install vista. -
Don't say it didn't work because then they will have to send it back to the manufacturer, just simply say bought the wrong kind, but it worked fine - that way they can repackage and resell it easily -

To install XP from USB flash drive, I belive you only need to make the USB flash drive "DOS-bootable", copy the XP install CD contents to it and start the winnt.exe installer (or similar) from the i386 folder, from DOS. -
Woo finally got mine! As others have said, WOW it's thin and small. So far so good...

Ah...40 days and nights...epic laptop story
