So basically a y400 gpu ultrabay bezel/cover shown in the link below will work perfectly with the y510p gt755m?

I'm sure we can't just order that y400 bezel either from Lenovo. Because then they would be doing too many things correctly....smh.

@pdinc I'm waiting on that 3d scanned bezel of yours ^_^

@EmberV Thank you so much for your help throughout the process of modifying my GT755M into a GT750M... I couldn't have done it without you! I'm going to milk this Lenovo for the moment, maybe repaste it soon, then get a Clevo when it's time. There was a Slickdeal for one a little while ago which was an incredible price.

Apart from that, Tomb Raider on Ultra (Except TRESSFX), BF4 on High, and 200+ FPS in CS:GO @ 1080p, so I'm content. Just need to undervolt so I don't get CPU throttling and it's all good.

Wow i stand corrected. I'll give Lenovo a call later. The module frame i ordered last week was listed as out of stock on the spare parts website as well, but when i called they mysteriously had some in stock.

@pdinc are you still working on that bezel scan? if so i'll wait since my gt 755m ultrabay is taking almost 6 weeks for delivery.

I am. I'm based out of Boston, and surprisingly while there's no dearth of 3D scanners and printers in the area, every business doesn't allow you to 3D scan. I took it to the Makerbot store and they told me that due to copyright liability issues, they don't allow anyone to 3D scan as a service.

I'm trying to find people who have one that I can borrow, so if you know someone (especially in the Boston area) let me know.

Again, big thanks to EmberV for giving me his bezel; pretty sure that what I have was the last one in stock at Lenovo.

@bcunje No problem. Perhaps you should make a write-up about modding the GT755M to a GT750M? It would be a good reference for others.

So, were you able to iron out the kinks? And please do a short write up of the process when you find the time.
Btw, which bios were you on? It must have been pre 2.07 if it was a june 2013 model if I'm not wrong. The reason I'm asking is because I am on the 1.07 and was wondering if your same method could be applied to mine.

Yeah I've put down a solid 5 hours of gaming on SLI with no issues. Granted I have no bezel for it, I'll probably just hack the y510p bezel with a Dremel or something for now.

I wrote up an article on techinferno but since I don't have 5 posts, I'm waiting for mod approval. Also trying to get the 1.07 svl7 bios mod but don't have attachment downloading rights yet...

@GovindB I'm running stock 1.07 bios right now, no changes.

Wait, wait. I've tried understanding everything in all 16 pages of this thread, but i still wasn't able to see a direct answer for questions i have.

    System Specs:

    OS: Windows 8.1
    Model: V1QY0Y1 31900058STD
    CPU: Intel Core i7 4700MQ
    GPU: Nvidia GT 755m
    BIOS Version: 74CN44WW(V3.05)
    RAM: Dual Channel - 16GB
    Date: 09/18/13

This is the Y510P 755m Ultrabay i'm eyeing right now: Y510p Removable Graphics GT755M5 | Lenovo | (US)

1.) Can i simply buy the Y510P 755m Ultrabay, cut the Bezel so it fits into my Y410P, and it will work? Or do i have to change the casing too? - If i have to change the casing, can someone give me a link to where i can get one that works?

2.) Do i have to do anything with my BIOS or change anything software-wise in order to get SLI with the Y510P 755m Ultrabay to work on the Y410P? - If i do need to do something software-wise like flash the BIOS or something, can someone show me how or post a link?

If you physically trim the bezel so that it fits in the y410p, then I'm 99.9% sure that it will work. Since I haven't done it myself I can't say it will work with 100% confidence. However I have done the same thing with a y500 ultrabay (650M) by trimming it until it fit in my y400, and it worked. Not only that but there's a thread on this forum that tells of someone making a 755M y510p ultrabay work with a 750MM y410p.

While it will work it won't be secure in your computer, so you won't be able to move the laptop while SLI is enabled. If you want the card to be secure, you'd have to transfer its contents to a GN35 y400 ultrabay casing.

EmberV's link was just for the bezel of the y400/y410p which i could use with the y510p gt 755m GPU ultrabay instead of having to dremel or cut the y510p's ultrabay bezel.

@pdinc that's basically what you're trying to get a 3D scan of correct?

Okay, so i believe i can just buy the Y510P 755M5, and dremel it down to size and also buy the "module frame" (i think that's the case the Bezel attaches to) for the Y400. Then i take the Bezel/Graphics card out of the Y510P module frame, and put it into the Y400 module frame? In case this doesn't make sense, i'll just convert this into step-by-step process so you can correct me on anything i'm doing wrong.

    1.) Buy Y510P 755M5 Ultrabay
2.) Dremel the Bezel down until it can fit inside the Y410P
3.) Buy the Y400 module frame from Lenovo
4.) Take out the Graphics Card/Bezel off of the Y510P Ultrabay
5.) Place the Graphics Card/Bezel nto the Y410P Ultrabay
    6.) Success?

I also don't know if i can use a Graphics Card "configured" (as quoted from Lenovo) for the Y510P, instead of the Y410P. I have the 755M already in my Y410P, do i need to change anything in order to SLI with the Y510P 755M? I've tried doing a bit of research on this, and i read that there's some sort of "whitelist" in the BIOS, and that you have to flash it or something. However, i also read while that was possible in previous BIOS versions, my current BIOS version is 3.05 which is "non-writable". Would i have to do the resistor-change thing in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/753225-sli-ing-y410p-gt750m-gt755m-natively-no-driver-mods.html#post9665947 or would i not have to because it's the same Graphics Card?

I won't be of much help LordTempus as i still have my own hesitations and havn't recieved my y510p 755m ultrabay yet to try all of this out. Your step by step process sounds correct according to what Pdinc has described except for step 4. I don't think you take the graphics card out of the y510p ultrabay as it will fit into the y410p ultrabay slot with the addition of the module frame to help it lock into place.

Please someone correct me if i am misguided.

So you just swap out the Y510P Module Frame with the Y400 Module Frame and it will fit? Why would you just remove it? I'm not entirely sure if it would connect properly if you just took the frame off and did nothing else.

Also, no one has yet told me if i need to do anything about the BIOS whitelist on the Y410P 755m that might inhibit your ability to SLI with the Y510P 755m.

If you're running v3.05 then i believe everything is good to go for a gt755m sli with another gt755m.

It fit. The only pieces that didn't fit are the bracket for locking mechanism (which is the Y400 part I talked about earlier, not necessary for functionality. You do need to remove the bracket that the card comes with) and the bezel (which you can dremel/cut down).

FYI quote from Lenovo Community forums:

    "Hello,

I've just received my GT755m yesterday and I've got it working properly without any heat issues. I had to sand down the bezel to allow proper installation. I also had to modify the retained clamp thing that locks the card in place because it was preventing the card from going all the way in. I installed the second VGA driver from lenovo's website and installed nvidia inspecter to cap FPS for games.
If you don't use a FPS cap the gpu will always run at 99% load and heat will build up in the second gpu until it starts to throttle. You can monitor this using GPUz to determine what FPS and settings you want to use for each game.
I personally use a 50FPS cap on all games and then adjust graphics settings until the gpu work load is less than 80%.

As for performance I found a very surprising increase; here's my benchmark: Hitman Absolution, the first mission, the greenhouse section (lots of reflections and alpha particles). Using a single gpu @ 1080p, and every option set to maximum (absolutely everything) I got a stable 20fps. But with SLI I got 38fps (a whopping 80% increase).
Although when I actually game I turn the settings down until I'm getting around 80% gpu workload, and the temps stay in the lower 60s.

I highly recommend get the second ultrabay grahpics while there's a sale on it; 99$ for the card and 35$ for the 170w adapter (which is required).

    I hope this helped"

did anyone find the $35 170W Adapter this person is talking about?

Also, is it really required to use the 170W Adapter?

IdeaPad 170W AC Adapter (UL) | Lenovo | (US)

unfortunately all of these required components have gone back up in price including the 170w adapter it seems.

And from all accounts i've read the 170w adapter is required to push 2 GPUs. I've heard of some accounts where people have tried with the 120w adapter and now their computers are having issues even when the gt755m ultrabay was taken back out.

I'm a little bit confused, do you need to install the second VGA driver from Lenovo? Or can you just stick the second Graphics card in and it'll SLI just fine? If you do need to install it, could you give me a link as to where i could find it on the website?

Hey guys, I think the last 755m's for the y510p just sold off Lenovo :(, I was gonna buy one too.

Any idea on where to get one? I wanted to trim it and place it in my y410p.

    Sup guys.
So I too purchased the 755M5 from Lenovo to put into my Y410P(that has the 755M5). Lo' and behold, 2 weeks later, they say they don't manufacture them anymore and I was sad.

Then I started looking on craigslist and found someone selling their almost new SLI Y510P for $800, with the i7 which is quite cheap. But he seemed like he knew what he was doing/talking about, so with a little gut I asked him if I could purchase his Ultrabay card alone and he said he'd give it off for $50. :D

Went home, unscrewed the bezel and locking mechanism frame (thingy) popped it in, installed the driver for the card via windows update and bam. Love it. 14inch gaming laptop that can run BF4 in ultra smoothly for around ~800 USD.. amazing. Got the power supply from CL as well for $45.

For the people asking about how to install the drivers, when I first inserted it in, it said 2nd Video Graphics Adapter under Device Manager, all I did was right click and say auto-update because I was sure it would grab the 755m drivers and that was solved. In terms of temps, it gets to about maybe 90 degrees celsius top if I'm playing BF4, most other games (CS:GO, league, wildstar) don't run it that hot ever. Nonetheless, I'm super happy that Lenovo is going to restock it and is totally worth the pickup as it literally gives so much of a performance boost to a laptop that is already cheap.

If anyone's interested I have a spare GN35 for sale (the y400 650M ultrabay). While it's not a 755M, it will fit in the machine perfectly and it may work using the methods in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...0p-gt750m-gt755m-natively-no-driver-mods.html

You'd have to replace the fan however. I purchased it brand new, but the fan was dead on arrival. As far as I can tell anyways, I never took it apart to see what exactly was wrong. The 650M itself works perfectly but without a working fan it's useless.

I'll sell it for $50 + shipping, or you can pick up a new for for $131 at ShopBLT.com

Does that have the correct bezel for the y410p? If so i'd be willing to pay $30 for a 3D printer blueprint of the bezel.

On a second thought i'd pay $30 for just the bezel itself. I'm sure you're trying to get rid of the whole thing which is understandable but i have a y510p gt755m on its way to me so all i need is the bezel.

    1.) I already have a buyer (sorry) and 2.) I don't have a 3D printer readily available.

Just wondering, how does your 650M SLI currently hold up for these next-gen games coming out? Dunno if you've tried the Hardline beta or Watch Dogs as examples.

At his screen resolution of 1366x768, overclocked 650M SLI can handle just about any game out there at max or close to max settings. Assuming it's optimized within reason of course *cough* Watch Dogs *cough*. BF Hardline is less demanding than BF4 and I was able to do 60 FPS in BF4's unoptimized beta at 768p Ultra settings w/o MSAA.

I bought the 650M off of LanceAvion, mostly for the bezel that I needed for my y410p, but also to jack the GN35 into a 750M/755M. I'll sell it to whoever once I get that done. Shouldn't take more than a day or two. Oh need to fix the fan too.

As octiceps said I can pretty much max out anything at my resolution. I don't really have any new AAA games, such as Watch Dogs, but every game I play from the last few years runs with no problems. That said I haven't gotten around to playing the heavy hitters of my library like The Witcher 2.

I can't wait to see how this goes. If you figure out how to turn the 650M into a 750/755M then y410p owners can just buy the GN35 can have a perfectly fitting unit.

You'll be absolutely fine. Witcher 2 Ultra w/o Ubersampling runs almost constant 60+ FPS for me at 768p. Even at 1080p, it's still very playable, average around 45-50 FPS with dips to 30 FPS in heavy foliage and in cutscenes with heavy use of the DoF effect. To this day, it's still a gorgeous-looking title with graphics and art direction that hasn't been matched or exceeded in any other game IMO.

It's also extremely GPU heavy, which is probably a given. With an unlocked frame rate, both my cards never drop below 99% usage, which is pretty amazing and I don't have any other game which does this. It also means I'm topping out at 85-90C on my overvolted GPU's.

Good to hear, The Witcher 2 was the only game I really had any concern about. Wait but I do own Tomb Raider....... geez I really need to play more of my Steam games haha.

After this sale, maybe I try out some of the new games I get and do some benchmarks.............
