that's the last thing you wanna do. the only thing you'll find on amazon is eastcoastlcd which has been confirmed in many cases to have been sending inferior TN panels

that means it's another compatible panel, not the exact panel. SPD1 is a matte display only.

I talked to lenovo support last night. They said that they do not offer an ips display with the y50 but some retailers do.

I asked them specifically about this model number: 59425944

They don't sell it, but others do. This model supposedly comes with an IPS display:

however the reviews at some sites still complain about the display. Does anyone know what screen this model ships with?

no you have to understand they may not sell the exact model, but rather compatible models. SPD1 is a matte display, so if you order glossy they'll send a compatible panel rather than the exact panel

I really like the looks of the edge to edge glass of the touch version.

Can you buy the touch and still change out the panel to an ips?

    Hi folks,

After reading tons of pages and being fed up by the lowest screen quality screen I have seen in a 1000$ computer I finally made the move and replaced the screen. I have used LP156WF4 SP B1 since LP156WF4 SP D1 doesn't seem to be available where I live ( Romania ).

After using the new screen for a couple of weeks I must say it is a huge difference , the new IPS screen is just gorgeous , the viewing angles and colors are incredible , I am very happy with the purchase. I have also played some games in order to test that aspect as well , and I must say I can't see any lag or anything like that ... at least to me it's not visible.

There is some light bleed in the left top corner and left bottom corner, but it's noticeable only when you have a full black background , nothing to worry about.

There is another thing that I have noticed, when you switch from desktop mode to start mode in windows 8 , after the full switch is done the whole display becomes a bit brighter , I am not sure why , and if it's winows 8 that's doing that , but that is the only thing I have noticed that seemed out of the ordinary.
I have attached some pictures so you can see the differences in quality , amazing screen , I love it.

    img1.jpg
    img2.jpg
    img3.jpg

The swap is not more than 15 minutes , at first as you might have noticed on the forum there will be some ghosting and burn in , pretty bad I might add , so please be patient and wait 1-2 hours and let the display burn in and I have also reinstalled all the video drivers and after that everything clears up and you end up with this beautiful display comparable to retina ...

    Thanks
    Mircea

So from reading through this.. it seems the AUO B156HAN01.2 is the screen to get (or else the B156HAN01.1 if you can't find the 1.2). Hesitant from the reports from nathanielsaysblah and xxlap1xx though. Any other reports of problems with the screen??

I'm a half happy owner of y50 with 4k (UHD) screen. It migh be good for games, but def. not for 3d modeling or photoshop - the icons are very very small and the yellow do not exist in this screen, but a browish-puke color. I had to set a lower resolution - what made things a little bit blurry and the color issue really bothers me.

My questions is if is that possible to replace it for a FHD Screen. I couln't find in the threads if I could face some hardware/drive problem. Anyone did this before?
What so far, is the best screen model to replace in your opinion?
    thanks in advance.

So I got my screen for Aliexpress today.

Taking apart the screen was VERY easy and I replaced the screen, powered it on. Nothing but lines. Screen was BROKEN.

I turned it off/on a couple times, tried letting it sit for an hour, and nothing helped.

I put in the original to make sure nothing was damaged when I removed it. Worked fine.

Tried again to reconnect the new screen. Didn't work.

I'm back to the original and typing on it now, severely disappointed

    Other things to note:

When I got the screen one of the hinges was bent 90 degrees in the wrong direction (I bent it back and it screwed in fine, but was still not facing the correct direction.

The screen also had some scratches, light put permanant and it was obvious that it was a deeper scratch because it was scratched from the corner of the screen (non lcd part) all the way passed the lcd. I would have lived with it, it was so light, but it would not rub out.

Overall disappointed. We'll see how the aliexpress support works out with the selling dispute.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement screen from a US vendor?

Aliexpress failed me, I really want to get rid of this poopy screen.

Anyone know a vendor that sells AND has in stock a screen. At this point I don't care if it is glossy or matte.

If you refer to the first post in this thread, yes, that model will work. I'm not sure if they do this in the UK like they do in the US, but make sure you send a message to them asking if they have the exact model and not a compatible one. Sometimes they ship a compatible one to you instead (which usually ends up being a TN panel).

New 15 6" Full HD LED LCD Screen for AUO B156HAN01 2 Exact Part Number | eBay

I'm looking to purchase that screen. I was looking at LAPTOP SCREEN from $34.99, replacement LCD screens. Repair Tablet, Acer, Apple, iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Dell, HP Compaq, Toshiba, IBM Lenovo, Sony, Asus, Gateway., but they did not have any panels in stock that were matte and IPS in stock. I contacted the customer service rep and he told me that it wouldn't be IPS if it didn't describe it in the product.

Can anyone give some insight into the display I posted? Is it an IPS display? I just want to make sure I purchase the correct display and this forum has been a huge help. I'm in the US and this seller is the only one I've seen that has the matte screen in stock.

Those who have AUO screens by lenovo, are they experiencing more eye strain than usual ? This is my only reason to replace the screen unfortunately.

For a week I could not quite place what was wrong, it just felt "weird" when looking at the screen and trying to focus on text in particular. I do believe this is the exact issue I may have been experiencing. No amount of calibration would help the issue.

And yes, it was the AUO36ED display.

I am guessing you replaced the screen ? Which model did you get ?

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it.

I had the touch version from BB, got it thinking the screen may be a little better coupled with the glass touch panel. The glare from the glass, horrible viewing angles, and eye strain made the screen unbearable unless I was playing a fast moving game in the complete dark. Even then any in-game text would take my eyes a second to focus on. I wanted to like it, I really gave it a good chance, but to no avail. I returned it to BB, and am looking to either get a non touch model and replace the display right away, or go with the Asus G550jk and be done with it. Still waiting on more feedback from people who have completed the replacement process. All the ghosting problems has me a little worried.

I would go for glossy since you're mostly indoors for less dull colors. You should go to nearest store and check it out because it comes down to personal preference.

The mustard color (instead of yellow) and brightness changing all the time is freaking me out.

Would I face some problem by replacig my 4k (UHD) for a 1080 (FHD)? let's say, the B156HAN01.2 ?

I've been lurking in the forum but decided to sign up just so that I can thank shillydwagon for his great guide and youtube video.

I was pretty happy with the speed and performance of the Y50 with the exception of the crappy screen. It was total crap. While googling around how to do a Windows 8.1 fresh install on the Y50, I somehow arrived in this thread and started to think "what if?"

After seeing shillydwagon's guides, the pics and people's feedback, I decided to take the plunge and ordered a B156HAN01.2 screen from https://www.laptopscreen.com

The difference is night and day. Now I am VERY VERY happy with my Y50. I would like to share my experience so that those who want to do the same replacement can do so. I'll upload a video of the replacement in youtube so you can see how I did it based on shillydwagon's method. I'm not an expert so you'll see me struggling a bit in some parts (was scared of scratching my week old laptop.

Oh and one other thing... I use Windows 7 in my old laptop.

When I switched to Windows 8.1 in the Y50 and with the new screen, I noticed immediately the improvement in the colors and viewing angles. What I also noticed was that the text was blurry. However after much observation, I noticed that the Windows text was sharp but the text in Chrome was blurry. The text in IE was also sharp. Then I found out that Windows 8.1 has this setting in Control Panel that scales text based on resolution. However not all programs are optimized for this and thus some turn out blurry. Once I turned off this setting, everything was sharp! Don't know if everybody knows this but I am sharing it anyways.

I used my shopper's card from Kroger lol. The card is much thinner than a credit card. It's maybe 1/2 as thin as a traditional credit card so useful to get into that tight gap.
