I looked around but can't find anything about a y40 compatible screen. Is is the same connectors and just a 14-inch size? ANY info would be absolutely awesome. Right now you can get a Y40 for around $1k with a 512GB SSD, 16 GB RAM and the 4GB AMD graphics card. :O

    Oh, but there is :)

120Hz 1440p IPS Overclockable Monitors | Blur Busters

I have the QNIX one. Samsung PLS panel, input overclocked to 120hz and no dropped frames. Colors do take a bit of a hit though. You have to patch the drivers so you can go over the bandwidth limit of dual link DVI.
    Only paid $280 :)

Got my B156HAN01.2 from lcdtech889 on ebay installed. Looks absolutely stellar. Brighter, more vivid, no dead pixels. Total was $106.99 shipped. Completely worth the price. Replacement took 5 minutes total, thanks to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T95se-KSX_Y

Thanks again to everyone in this thread who has contributed.

wow I never thought it was possible to OC to 120hz! usually when I OC the monitors in my college computer lab I get about 90hz max. on the other hand, don't you need a DP for that refresh rate rather than dual link DVI?

My buddy just brought me back a AUO B156HAN01.2 screen back from China, it cost $60 US. Makes a world of difference in terms of viewing angles :), colors are great, it was also super easy to install. Here is a before and after pic (NBA 2K13 as reference :p)

no more washed out colors, yay

Do you have more pictures of the panel itself? Such as what side the connector sits on/etc. I've found a few possible replacement panels. There's a whole group of IPS panels with a (SL) code that might work (similar in number to the ones on the front page.

That's what the pixel clock patcher is for. It removes the pixel clock limit of dual link DVI in the drivers, making it possible to run so many pixels at that refresh rate.

Here is image of the back of the panel, and my own cable image (which says LVSD as well). The connector sits on right side (viewing the back of the panel) and mounting to the chassis is 4 screws, up and down. The dimensions are similar to FHD version. Let me know what else is needed?

    Hi Guys,

I just replace my Lenovo Y50 screen, I ordered the screen at laptopscreen.com the model that I orderd is AUO B156HAN01.2 (Glossy) for 109 USD. However when I received the screen it was LG LP156WF4(SP) (C1). Since I'm located at Singapore is too hassle for me to return and wait again for the replacement( it was almost two weeks before I received the item). Anyway I installed it to my Lenovo Y50. below is the pictures, I user iPhone to take a shot of it. You guys judge on it. let me know.

Is it possible to get a touchscreen 3200 x 1800 monitor like the one of dell xps 15 and install at the y50 touch fhd or uhd model? I would like to see dell xps 15 touchscreen 3200 x 1800 monitor runing at y50 touch

nope, i've received that panel 2 days ago and unfortunately it does not fit. its a 40pin edp panel, but its connector is slightly shorter and its side mounted (vs top and bottom mounts on y50 panel). its a real shame as that 3200 x 1800 panel is very good (its also IGZO which = low power consumption).

Oh man that is very sad. I would like to put at least a 1080p ips display with touchscreen at the touch model. Is it possible? For example the asus n550jk touchscreen panel would be great. I need touchscreen fuction at y50 but a better screen quality :/

honestly now that you think about it, the whole IGZO power saving thing is not as good as it sounds, how energy efficient can you get on a 3k screen? lol

Oh I see.. Did you by any chance try the connection to see if it works? I mean I am not sure if you've read about the connection type problem, but basically on the cable behind the original UHD panel, it says LVSD. Which is apparently technically impossible..
And many of us not sure if it's a mistake on Lenovo's side, or a cheat to make it work somehow by Samsung! So I mean if you can try just eDP connection to see if you can get a picture on the screen you would help a lot.. So I believe it can tell us if the connection is 40 pin eDP or 40 pin LVSD....

p.s. you've mentioned that the connection was slightly shorter.. Not sure if you've meant the cord or the actual 40 pin section..

i did not check the connection as the density of the pins looked different so I'm pretty sure it would not work. oh and when I said its shorter i meant that the 40pin connector is a couple mm shorter.

then I think it's enough to say that this is an LVDS... I still don't understand how that would work at all though...

So are you suggesting that a LVDS panel should work? or still would it be possible that everything is just so custom made to not be replaceable at all?
I mean now I'm thinking if the cord somehow convert the signal??
Also does it mean that they are using a different motherboard model for UHD version? If yes, is there anyway to compare the models (just to be sure) without opening the case?

Bought a new B156HAN01.2 Matte screen from lcdtech889 on eBay here: New 15 6" Full HD LED LCD Screen for AUO B156HAN01 2 Exact Part Number | eBay

Purchased it on Sunday and received it today. Way quicker than I expected. Took 5 minutes to swap out.

I didn't take any before or after pictures, but WOW I didn't know what I was missing. When I first got it, I was like ehhh the screen isn't too bad. After swapping it out, I realized how bad it really was.

I definitely suggest swapping the screen out. Now if this laptop just had an extra slot for an SSD, it would be the perfect laptop for its price range.

From my research it would seem that the screen in the ASUS N550JK would also work in the Y50. It's a GREAT screen--does anyone know if the replacements you're using are similar in quality?

    I bought this one: Brand new A+ B156HAN01.2 LP156WF4 SPB1 SPU1 SLB1 N156HGE EA1 EB1 LCD Screen LED Display for AC&ER V5 30PIN EPD Connector-in Laptop LCD Screen from Electronics on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group
When I got it, it was $56.79+$14.56 in shipping. Totaled $71.35.

It took a long time to get here, but that was USPS's fault. I received the Matte version. I'm pretty sure they'll send one without you specifying that you want that exact model, but I put it in the notes anyway. And I would if I were you too, just in case.

So, is it given that the screens are not inter-changeable between the 4K laptop and the 1080p one? Meaning, the connectors are actually different?

yep, i'm pretty sure its eDP, as even maintenance manual refers to the cable as eDP. Having said that its not the same eDP connector as on other i-pex 40 pin displays (like LQ156Z1JW03 that is found in new XPS 15), i'm sure there must be other displays out there that will use the same connector as the 4k panel in y50 but i dont know how easy it will be to find them.

Damn. Cause I would LOVE to change out the display, if given the chance. I don't have many gripes with this one, as 4k resolution is so nice (I recently was using a 1080p monitor, and I can tell the different significantly now). But I just don't like the yellow color reproduction (unless it could be fixed eventually by Sammy, or Lenovo).

ordered the 2880 x 1620 resolution IPS screen from UX51VZ, which from photos seems to have the same connector and top / bottom mounting bracket. I've paid for DHL shipping so should be here next week.

will report back when it arrives.

I have a bad habit of constantly tinkering with things. Yeah the stock screen (1080) wasn't good but I was trying to avoid wanting to replace it. I gave in a few days ago and ordered the one listed several times in this thread ( New 15 6" Full HD LED LCD Screen for AUO B156HAN01 2 Exact Part Number | eBay). Ordered on Thursday, received it on Saturday and thanks to instructions in this thread it was very easy and quick to swap. Below is the comparison of both stock and replacement screens, I won't bother telling you which one is which. Much more vibrant colors, and viewing angles are way better of course. In games, wow, it looks so much better I can hardly believe it.

I have one of the LG LP156WF4-SPB1 exact model screens for sale. Has a few hours use on it but plan to return the laptop with the original screen in it and no longer need it. It is in perfect condition except there is one tiny stuck (not dead) pixel that is only visible near max brightness with a pitch black screen. 75$ shipped :) PM if interested

because it cant be lvds, technically not possible. also y50's technical manual refers to the part as eDP UHD cable... also yes, connection on 2k screen does look a bit different than ipex 40 pin that 3200x1800 screen uses, in fact i know its a different eDP connection because panelook.com tell you that it is.
