Great! I'm definitely getting the glossy model of this screen asap.

Btw, does it overheat when playing for long periods of time? (around 3hs with high settings)

Hey guys. I am trying to get a glossy ips replacement screen. I ordered the B156HAN01.1 off of Amazon and I received the B156HAN01.2.... The seller claims the 1.1 and 1.2 are identical and both matte finish. I would prefer the glossy IPS panel. Can anybody please direct me to the right model to purchase for glossy? Thanks.

'Cause it's little store in Saint-Petersurg, Russia and they do not ship internationally =) I don't know why link turned into this mess
If you want a glossy one you should surf sites like panelook or lcdsolar for detailed info about LCD panels

Has anyone successfully either replaced the touchscreen version with another touchscreen, or replaced it with a non touch panel?

I bought AUO B156HAN01.2 and it looks great, but it is causing some screen burn. If I am on chrome for a while and then alt tab back to a game or something, I can see where the chrome browser was. It goes away after about 30 seconds, but its quite annoying. Anyone else having this issue?

Just read the posts. Lots of people recommend good screens. You just need one with a 30 pin connection that is the same resolution and size.

I bought a touchscreen model locally very cheap because it had a cracked screen and i like to tinker .

So today I attempted to remove the glass from the screen but the glass is actually also part of the screen itself IE the protective layer is not just a touch piece of glass unlike alienwares where there is a regular everyday for all kinds of notebooks panel behind that sheet of glass.

So anyone attempting this my answer is don't attempt to remove that glass or you will end up with a totally fubar screen .

I ordered a regular screen AUO B156HAN01.2 from lcdtech (yeah I read all the horror stories but I guess we shall see) because the connector is the same 30 pin from what I can tell/see and also the model of the touch screen is B156HTN03.6 which is a standard screen with or without touch so hopefully another screen is compatible with it .

If it works you can order a non touch screen lid and bezel from Ebay for around $80 USD total. The non touch lid has a different part number to it and also extra mounting holes to secure the LCD.

So the ultimate goal is to turn a touchscreen into a non touch and if not well it will make a great HTPC for what I paid.

If I get this working ill be sure to post back. Wednesday is when the screen arrives and if that works its just a matter of sourcing the other parts to make it whole.

Either way atleast all the touchscreen people who have been disappointed in the quality of the screen will finally have some sort of answer to the question is it possible.

Has ANYONE found an IPS screen with <7ms response time? I ordered the B156HAN01.2 and couldn't deal with the ~30ms ghosting.
The colors on the default Y50 screen are so so so bad. Did anyone find either an IPS with low ms or a TN with better colors?

Closest I've found is the LTN156HL01-102 IPS screen with 16ms, 30-pin connector. Can someone confirm it works as a replacement in the y50?

I know the OP says this thread is for the FHD screen only, but maybe you guys will be able to answer this question. I've asked on Tom's Hardware and a few other places and looked for hours, and I can't get a good answer.

I bought this laptop recently and accidentally purchased the UHD rather than the FHD version that I wanted. I'd done my homework and even though I was aware the FHD version's screen was awful I figured the UHD version had bigger problems. Before I return it, is it possible to replace the UHD screen with a 1080p screen with a proper refresh rate, or am I stuck with the 48 Hz display on this one because of the software limitations?

Hey guys, I have a Y50 coming this week and want to upgrade the screen. I've literally read this entire thread over the last two days!

I originally planned on buying the matte B156HAN01.2, But after reading all the reviews i don't know if i should risk it as it seems to have quality control issues. I'll be ordering from the states to canada, So returning a faulty panel is a pain in the . I'd like to avoid that.

I saw people posting about LG screens, and Samsung Screens, But i can't seem to find them in stock anywhere.

If anybody can link me to some Matte screens that are good and trustworthy, i'd love it. An actual link to an in-stock retailer would be extra appreciated.

Or, am i just being paranoid? I know people tend to only post when something goes wrong, so perhaps there are tones of people who got the B156HAN01.2 and have had absolutely zero problems. But they don't speak up, So i dunno.

Is that panel worth the risk? Or should i grab a different one? Suggestions?

Considering all the hassle you may have to go through to return/exchange it i would certainly do as much homework as you can. I ordered the 1.2 just on chance and i am in the USA so returning it will not be an issue but if i were in your shoes yeah i might take more time and investigate the best solution.

As for overthinking the problems some have i have been down this road so many times with so many panels in my many many years of laptops that it is ALWAYS a gamble when you order something like a screen. Dead pixels, stuck pixels, image retention you name it and i have seen it and had to deal with it. It all sucks but there is no simple way around it UNLESS you can somehow find a local shop to you that can order you or sells panels so they can either install it or test it for you before you walk out the door. If you do happen to find someone like that you will pay a premium for that experience but its worth every penny to not have to return 3 or 4 screens before you find a keeper.

I ordered mine from LCDtech it will arrive tomorrow and who knows how it will turn out . I always prepare for the worst and if you end up ordering one just do the same.

Quadzilla I have been wanting to replace the LCD on a touch model as well. I am interested to see what you find. Today I swapped the HDD in the laptop with an SSD. I took a look at the cable while I was inside. I am interested if on the motherboard the pins are the same as on the non-touch (regardless of what they look like at the LCD end). From what I know eDP is pretty standard and the aux lanes are usually used for the touch portion.

You said something about 30 pin? Were you able to tell if on the LCD side the connectors are the same on both models?

From what I could tell using ebay and the service manual the hinges are the same.

Here is the enclosure for anyone interested for the non touch version

Sadly the screen did not work. It lit up for one second then nothing after that. I tried everything but the machine did not want to power on until i removed the screen . The keyboard lights would flash for half a second then off.

So either the panel was/is bad which is entirely possible or the cable is not compatible with the standard screens out there. Im still convinced it should work because the screen in the touch models is the exact model they use in the Sager and other machines except those dont have touch . So unless this is some special version of that panel with custom firmware which i guess is possible then i think a regular panel should work.

Lastly and something else that might make it work is to find the correct cable for the standard non touch screen models. They are in fact 2 different parts i compared them with the video out there of the guy swapping the panel and the camera zoom shot shows its a different cable then the touch model. So it might be something that simple but good luck finding the cable i guess is the best way to say it. i had looked previously and found nothing. If someone has an inside Lenovo connection they could easily get the cable.

So at this point i cant do anything else. If i had other panels on hand to try i would have . But paying for shipping both ways on a few different panels can start to ad up. It was $15 just to ship back the screen today and i paid $9 in shipping ordering it so you can see that is $25 out the window plus if they try to hit me with a restocking fee if the panel is infact good or not i have no way of knowing for sure.so it is there word against mine which in this case they will probably say its fine on there end and im out another 20% of $80. So yeah you can see where all this is headed in the long run just to see if it works and the costs can escalate fast for me.

I took one for the team and was really hoping i could come and tell touchscreen owners its a simple swap but that did not pan out like i hoped.

Thanks for taking one for the team. You are correct the cable is different. If you find one on ebay or something link me and I'll give it a shot. I'm not positive but I would make a guess that the motherboards between the touch and non touch are the same. So that would leave the cable as the only thing different. It is possible however the motherboards are different rendering it impossible. You did say it is a 30 pin cable right?

Yeah its 30pin same as the panel i ordered and everything plugged right in . Sad part is without a couple panels laying infront of me there is no way of knowing if the panel was defective or it just wont work. It lit up for a second then never again so who knows. It might be worth you ordering a panel first and testing it yourself maybe you will have more luck then i did then if not hunt down a cable. I have never seen one for sale and im not sure what the exact part number is . You can pause the Youtube video to find a couple different numbers on the cable im just not sure which is which .

I have no doubt that the motherboard is the same across all 3 models. Touch/Non/UHD because knowing Lenovo they just would not spend more to make all that happen plus other companies like Sager offer 4k screens when you order a machine and i know for certain they are not using other motherboards just for the screens. It doesnt make financial sense IMHO to need a whole new mainboard just for a screen. In the past on the Dell/Alienware machines there were 2 different connectors on the same motherboard for things like 120hz but the tech has changed.

Thanks for the info good to know. I agree itd have to be the same mobo. I found the part number for the cable for non-touch in the service manual. Tried calling Lenovo today but they were having phone issues and asked me to call back another day. I'll probably order a panel in the next few days and give it a shot. If that doesn't work ill call back Lenovo and try to secure a cable. I'll keep you updated!

That sounds great and im glad someone else is taking the initiative to keep trying. It will be worth it in the end and it may just be a matter of getting a working screen since im still not sure mine was defective and if you get the same results that I did then we know its be that cable. Hopefully Lenovo will sell the part too you but that I am uncertain of just like Dell gave people a hard time always trying to order parts for a machine they didn't have. If not maybe hunting down a Lenovo repair shop to get the cable because they can always order whatever they need no questions asked. I have seen the touch screen cables on Fleabay but that was it.

Just curious. There is a thread a few posts down that someone posted where you can get the screen with the digitizer. Is the screen you guys ordered the same as that? My y50 touch just came yesterday and OMG is this thing garbage. Looks like you two are the guys that can finally finish this. Win or fail, at least we will know. If I would have known, I probably wouldn't have bought this but oh well. I bought it mainly for work, games & movies secondary,

    Hey all,

I just registered after reading all 104 pages of this thing, have one question. Does everyone that has the 1.2 screen have ghosting and retention issues after a month or so?

I've seen a lot of initial things being great and then 3-5 weeks later issues were starting. Whats the concensus that have gotten the screen from LCDtech on ebay and had the screen for more than a month or two?

(Y50 non touch is showing up on Wednesday and if the screen is as bad as some of the pics, Im going to swap too... just haven't decided between the matte 1.2 and the LTN156HL01-102. The 1.2 has better color slightly I know, but wondering about longevity issues)

Hey guys, forgive my ignorance but what's the difference between input lag and response time?

Does a 35 ms response time mean it will take 35 ms before for a pixel to begin to change? Or will it take 35 ms for a pixel to change completely (resulting in ghosting I guess?).

Is there really a noticeable speed difference between the recommended IPS screens and the stock TN? Is a 35 ms response time considered higher than average for a laptop IPS?

    Thank you

Hi there. I've replaced my screen in August with a 1.1 i believe, and I haven't had any ghosting issues, apart from the first time, when I started the Y50,the screen had at least a 2 minute image retention (i would see the bios bootup 'lenovo" when it was on desktop) but after half an hour, and rechecking the connection, all the problems disappeared and it was just normal.

if you are interested enough you can search this thread for my pictures on this.

P.s. The 1.2 doesn't have "slightly" better colors, it's a whole 40% more color gamut. Its the best and brightest screen I've ever seen, even when compared to desktop monitors.

Ah hi M1ko, yes I saw your posts and others about the initial burn in. I was just talking about it popping back up after months and never going away.

And by colors I meant the 1.2 over the -102, not the stock panel. :) My Y50 shows up tomorrow or the next day so I'm trying to do all the homework I can incase mine is that bad too.

excellent, thank you for the reply. I was beginning to think all 1.2s started acting up after a month or two. Oh nevermind I forgot you have the 1.1... I wonder if that's the difference and I should look for that instead.

Im still not sure which one is the newer one, but decided I want to go matte.

I dont know if anyone did this yet, but I emailed AUO to ask for certain which screen I newer 1.1 or 1.2. It would seem VERY odd for a company to put out a 1.1 after a 1.2 version number to me. I'll post back when I hear.

Yea, I was talking about the difference between the 1.1/1.2 and the 102. the 1.1/1.2 is that good.

the difference between the 1.1 and the 1.2 is that the 1.1 has slightly less power consumption (0.5) there was a website linked too, you can find all the specs on it

    Hello forum,

Just got my new Lonovo Y50 FHD. The screen is disasterous. Am thinking about replacing it, but I have some questions:

    1. What's the best screen to replace with? I'd rather pick a matte instead of a glossy one.
    2. Is it possible to install a touch screen?
2.1. If yes is it worth it and why?
2.3. If yes what's the best screen there is?

Thanks for your opinions in advance.

Don't know about 1 others will have to chime in. The touchscreens are just as bad and would not be worth switching to.

Quadzilla and I are working on replacing touch with non-touch but we have not yet successfully done so. We'll keep thread updated.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll stay tuned. I'm so close to getting rid of my Y50 touch if I cant upgrade the crummy display.
