Keep in mind it wont be cheap to convert it as it wont be just a matter of a panel swap.

New lid and bezel are $83 ish shipped from China.

Screen depending on the deal you get say from $90-100

Lastly if a new LCD cable is required who knows the cost of that yet but my guess based on past efforts is $20-50.

You will need a couple extra screws to secure the LCD into the new LID because the touchscreen lid the LCD is slotted in and then uses 2 screws at the bottom to hold it but those might be compatible with the screws you would need for the new LID and LCD. So you would atleast have 2. I have tons of screws laying around but not everyone has this stuff so again just a warning. Ive seen people not even have a single screw to secure an Msata SSD as an example so yeah not everyone has what they need just laying around the house.

Then you will need to reassemble it all because you'll be using things like your hinges and Wifi cables/Web Cam from the old one since the replacement lid comes with none of that.

I just wanted to outline all that this will entail as its not for the average joe . Ive worked on too many notebooks to even count so im familiar with this stuff and ive already taken this Y50 apart a couple times but for everyone else who are unfamiliar just be prepared for some work if it all pans out and you decide to do it.

The video on Youtube of the guy swapping out the LCD on the non touch model is a 5 minute job but this will require ALOT more work then that :).

Hi guys, just about to order my Y50 when I discovered this thread - it's huge!

Is there any consensus on which replacement screen is best? I'd prefer a matte one if possible.

I asked laptop screen.com but they've got nothing...

Where can I get a LP156WF4(SP)(D1) delivered to the Canada?

First of all, I apologize if I'm disturbing this thread as I'm not a Y50 user.

However I own a Clevo P650 which suffers from the same with the same TN 1080p crappy screen. I have the same 30 pin connector.

So, what about the best option for replacing the screen? I really like nuclear whites with realistic colours. I don't care wether it is glossy ir matte and finally I don't want touchscreens.

Tried a Samsung PLS matte screen but its whites were too yellowish (I had to return it because it was damaged)

    Thanks!

    Hello everyone,

First of all, sorry for my English... I'm not a native, I'm French.

Initially, I ordered a LG LP156WF4(SP)(D1) (matte) and I've received an AUO B156HAN01.2 (matte)...

Is someone able to tell me if the AUO is better than LG ?

    Thanks forward.

Thanks to this video, I replaced my crappy Innolux TN screen by the new AUO B156HAN01.2 I received few hours ago.

This image speaks better than words :

AUO is more contrasted, more colorful and above all, it has larger view angles !

I've the impression Innolux needs more concentration and it's tiresome... AUO doesn't needs to ajust screen angle be readable and to deliver good colors.

Now, I can say I love my Lenovo Y50-70 :)

I ordered my new screen on Ebay :
    http://fave.co/1zJS3Uo

Be careful, it's mentionned you can receive either LG or AUO. However, I've the impression these two screens are good values.

    Have a good day !

I have a Y50 with a 4K UHD screen (LTN156FL02-L01). Can I replace it with an IPS FHD screen?

I sent back a damaged screen to China last monday, the seller pays shipment costs.

Did you pay via paypal? If so (and sadly the seller does not assume them), they assume returning fees.

    Hi guys.
Straight to the point. I am tired of hearing people complaining about their screens :(, is it so difficult to buy one?
Most of posts are negative. :(

Is it worth to change my Y50 screen? -.-
Iam a casual gamer of BT4.

I have to decide between these both LTN156KL01-102 and the famous B156HAN0.1.2 and maybe the LP156WF4(SP)(D1)
And where to buy, laptopscreens I think.

I need a final conclusión, this fórum has 7 months already.

    Thank you very much. :)

It is absolutely worth it. I have this LTN156KL01-102 model and love it over the stock panel . The difference is huge and mostly because the stock panel is just so bad. So the answer is 100% yes.

Touch screen owners can convert to non touch but it requires some costs on your end including a new screen, new lid, bezel and non touch LCD cable. Its a long process and frankly for someone who paid full price for the touch model I would say sell it and move on to something new vs going through all this. I paid a fraction of what a new one costs so I had my reasons to do what I did.

I want a Touch screen, with good colors. Prefferably IPS screen.. Is there any out there that will work? I am not so tech savvy and have no idea where to start looking.. If someone has the answer I'd appreciate it a lot!! Thanks in advance - David

The one on the Y50 is the only one for it. Because it has to fit specifically into the lid they designed is why and you cannot remove the glass and replace the screen behind it as they are all one piece. I tried it. So your touchscreen options are none but if you go non touch then you can convert it but it will start adding up cost wise and you would be better off returning and just ordering the non touch model then a new screen.

I bought the LP156WF4(SP)(D1) of Aliexpress. Got the screen after 6 days from China to Norway. I tested the screen 3x times and i couldn`t get it to work. I tried to return it, but the seller said i would not pay the return shipping and fees. The display was in my house collecting dust for about 3 months before i today tried it again. I HADN`T PUT THE CONNECTOR PROPERLY IN PLACE(it is supposed to make a *click* noice when it is all the way in). Now it works and the difference is huge! Thanks to all you guys for helping me!

I'm reading some decent reviews of the LP156WF4, but the 60% color gamut still has me uneasy.

I recently bought the B156HAN01.2, matte version, but I was not happy with it. It's definitely an improvement from the stock Y50 screen, but I was using an Asus G73JH laptop which has a really nice glossy screen, so when I put the B156HAN01.2 next to it and ran some videos and pictures, the difference in colors was very, very obvious. The Y50 with the B156HAN01.2 was darker by far, and many colors did not show up nearly as well as in the G73JH laptop screen. In one picture comparison I performed, the g73JH showed a section as blue, whereas the the B156HAN01.2 showed it as purple....Furthermore, since I never use my laptops outdoors, ambient light is never a problem for me. It's more important that my computer screen have vivid and accurate colors.

Unfortunately, the B156HAN01 glossy versions are nowhere to be found. I've contacted at least 9 different Ebay, Amazon, and other sellers, but none of them have the glossy version of either the B156HAN01 or the LTN156HL01, so I may be forced to settle for the glossy LP156WF4. But do you guys think it's worth it? Is the picture quality still good despite its substantially lower color gamut?

    Thanks in advance!

A major component of continual color accuracy is color calibration.

When plugging in a panel that is able to display a wider and more accurate representation of colors into a system that is not "aware" of these new abilities - the initial result will not be accurate. Even the two identical model LCDs will have slight color difference right out of the box (not visible by eye, but detectable by a color-calibration tool).
And further-more all LCD panels tend to "drift" colors as they age - which is corrected through continual calibration - thus a regular hardware-based color calibration must be included in the day-to-day workflow of those users that require the most accurate colors - print shops, design agencies, etc.
    http://spyder.datacolor.com/portfolio-view/spyder4pro/

For a user concerned with color but with no access to a hardware based color-calibration tools the best way to deal with accurate colors is to locate and install a color profile created by another user with hardware color-calibration to a specific panel. Although this does not account for the age related color drift of each individual panel, it will ensure that the colors are fairly accurate. (The blue will be blue, not purple, etc)

Anyone willing to share the ICC profile for their hardware-calibrated B156HAN01.2?

    I have to decide now!
I going to buy a matte IPS screen from LaptopScreens.

    The HAN1.2 with 26 ms, the LP156WF4(SP)(D1 with 25 I think or the LTN156HL01-102 with 16 ms.

    I am casual fps gamer.
    Please help me XD

There is no simple answer sadly. Speed vs color gamut ?. I love my LTN156HL01-102 I can say that much but also because I got a perfect screen right from the get go IE no stuck pixels or bleeding etc and for myself that is a reason to love it even more because playing the ordering panel/return reorder lottery when replacing screens can be a huge headache. Done it so many times over the years its depressing to even think about.

So just find a good reseller with a good return or exchange policy and order either screen because I think one way or the other youll be happy.

It is really good. I don't notice the color gamut thing at all. It is much better than the Y50 panel. I have the matte version.

A couple of days ago, my original display for the y50 died on me, so I bought the LP156WF4(SP)(U1) and it works, however, I am having problems with it.

There is a white static line that flickers across my display, and also the display would frequently turn off for just a second and come back on. I connected the laptop to an external monitor and everything works fine, even on the laptop monitor (it doesn't flicker anymore and is perfectly fine when laptop is connected to external monitor and both are on).
Does anybody know what could be the problem?

First thing that comes to mind is loose connection. I suggest checking and re-seating the 30-pin connector and make sure the bit of tape holding it down is securely in place. If the problem persists after that, it's probably the panel itself.

Hey guys, I just want to let you Europeans out there know that there are currently 3+ ebay resellers that have the B156HAN01.2 in stock.
I have contacted them and they all said that they are currently shipping this exact model.
However send them a message before you buy one to ensure that they don't send a compatible TN panel.

Guys. y50 is a GAMING laptop.

I have no idea why the B156HAN01.2 is being recommended for a replacement screen as it has crazy (minor) 25ms ghosting, that coming from the ~6ms TN stock Y50 panel is EXTREMELY noticable during 60fps play.

I'm trying to get my hands on the LTN156HL01 panel as it should be the only replacement worth mentioning at 16ms.

I can't be the only one after 54 pages that is struggling to make this known, but it seems this gets lost in the shuffle.

I bet that more than half of us aren't using the Y50 for gaming. The main reason to buy this thing was the price tag, cause even if you didn't care about the GPU (like me) you would struggle to find a slim and (CPU-wise) powerful machine in that price range.
I mean where else do you get an i7-4010hq, 16 gigs of RAM and a 256 SSD for under 1000 bucks??
Even if you add in the price for the screen replacement, there is nothing nearly this cheap (at least in Europe)

Yo I just spoke to a vendor that said the Samsung LTN156HL01-102 is actually 26ms response time.... Which leaves us no option under 25ms.

    Man.. What a bummer.

Any word on replacement TN panels that have better colors than the stock y50 panel? (While keeping the low response time?)

Just got my Y50 and have some questions.

I am using the stock TN panel and I can only really see the screen comfortably on max brightness. With this, my portable battery life only lasts an hour. Is this normal? And if I switch the stock panel out with an IPS panel, will it be brighter at say 50% brightness as opposed to seeing nothing at the same settings on the stock panel?

The stock panel is around 200-220 nits (nits=Brightness) and almost all the replacement IPS screens are 300ish so they are about 30% brighter but when you add in much better contrast, color, viewing angles you will be able to get by with less brightness then you need now.
Also it sounds like something is running in the background using the nvidia card like Steam is running all the time and that will chew up your battery.
So unless you are playing a game even on max brightness you should get more then an hour unplugged.
I average right around 4 hours maybe a bit more or less on battery on mine just web browsing with the brightness close to 2/3.
A good SSD can also give you a little more time unplugged.

For IPS screens, It seems like there is only the B156HAN with 25ms...

It would be AMAZING if someone found a suitable TN panel with better color and viewing angles than the stock one while keeping the low response time. Toooo crazy that it's taken 55 pages for these issues to come up!

But I heard that some people said they havent notice any ghosting or lag with the b156han01.2

    Unless you are very sensitive.

The straight answer is we don't know. So far I've seen only one report of successful replace of a touch screen with a non-touch but there are no details about it.

    Regarding going from a touchscreen (1080p) to a non-touch (1080p) pannel

You already know that the non-touch panel is mounted to the outer lid of the laptop by four screws. On the touchscreen model, the panel is mounted to the front screen/digitalizer with glue.
It is extremely difficult to seperate the front screen bezel from the back metal lid without damaging the plastic retention clips.
The 30-Pin EDP connector is the same on both the touch screen and non-touch models. The grey cable that runs along side the bezel up to the webcam is different because it needs an additional connector on the touchscreen model to plug into a PCB that I assume controls the digitalizer.
The webcam PCB and the hole where the camera pokes through to the screen are different on the touch screen and non-touch models.
The mounts on the outer lid are not the same, probably because of the way the screen is mounted in the touch and non-touch models.
It is fairly difficult to switch the panel from a touch to a non-touch without replacing both the outer lid and the bezel around the screen.

Panel appears to be glued and taped to the bezel.
