An update to all the Canadians out there:
I talked to several reps about the Y50 Touch, which was briefly available on the Lenovo Canada website but has since disappeared without explanation. And they were all utterly clueless and useless. Apparently they haven't been told anything and are unable to find someone who has for me. After using Klick's customer service first-hand it feels terrible trying to use Lenovo's "service" again...
Here is my hypothesis though: Canada only ever showed i7-4710 models and never had any i7-4700 ones for any of the Y50 configs. On the US website, the only Y50 Touch with a reasonable shipping date is the i7-4700 model: both i7-4710 models have listed shipping times of "greater than 5 weeks". Since Canada seems to get everything a month or two after the US and none of the Canadian reps have been told anything at all, I wouldn't expect any Y50 Touch laptops to become available in Canada until at least September. I have no idea why it's so difficult to combine the i7-4710 processor, which Lenovo clearly has, with the touchscreen, which Lenovo also clearly has. The whole situation is pretty preposterous if you ask me.
So basically, if you want to get a Y50 Touch before September or October, you have to order the i7-4700 model, which is best done from Klick. I was deciding whether it would be worth it to wait for the laptop to appear on the Canadian website for the i7-4710 and the cheaper price (PayPal charges for currency conversion so the base Y50 Touch from Klick ends up at around $1600 after tax and all charges for me). But trust me, it definitely is not worth it unless you're really fine with waiting 3 more months (or longer, knowing Lenovo, lol).

Do you know if this will also affect the top non touch model that was available when Y50 was first released in Canada? Or this only applies to the touch model
-
Can any owners of the touch screen model elaborate on the TN panel? Is it really bad or noticeable all the time, or only extreme viewing angles? How about color quality and sharpness?

I had a l9ng talk with the admins of facebook lenovo, they were saying it will be release in early to mid july here....
-
Just got my i7-4710hq/16gb/4Gb ram/non-touch model today, ~3 weeks earlier than the first delivery estimate. Can't open it until the 15th though :\

Does anyone know the average time Notebookcheck takes to upload a review of a computer?

Depends on the laptop. Some take months while others take mere days. -
Here's a thought!
Make a removable laptop water cooler! And other cool devices
O_O
That's actually pretty cool looking, I think! -
As someone else mentioned, did you change the Lenovo energy settings to high performance? You might also want to do a full reset of the OS, and manually go in and reinstall drivers. I know you don't think it is due to the multiplayer servers, but have you tried it in single player mode just to see?
I would definitely make sure you have it plugged in and on high performance mode and check back, cause that seems pretty low. -
Where would this fit, aren't the vents on the bottom of the screen pretty narrow?

Guys how is Lenovo in terms of reliability and durability compared to clevos?

Thanks buddy! I have been waiting for this for so long. Now, if it's priced between INR 70-80k (base model), it would be a steal!

They were sayin' that it's July about 1 or 2 weeks before, but now they are sayin' August! See this :

Finally fixed it, but it was because of another reason.
However, now that it's fixed I've noticed that my wifi speeds are horrid. My connection is also a lot better on every laptop but this Y50.
Is it an issue with the wifi card? My internet is 802.11nn and not a/c, but it shouldn't affect it that bad right? When I directly connect it to the router it's fine but I want to have good wifi signals as well as I don't typically use wired connection that much. Thanks. -
That's bizarre. I wonder if you got a lemon? That or maybe you installed some bad drivers or software? There's no reason for it to go from fine to broken like that. Others have reported a great experience with the wifi on the Y50.

Hey folks - just wanted to give a little bit of an update .. We have the 512GB's coming in today for everyone that pre-ordered - should actually ship out today as well if our truck is on time. We also have a new shipment of the 16GB/4GB/1TB's coming in tomorrow. We still have some base units (both touch and non-touch). So far we've only had 1 DOA unit, which is actually VERY good considering past products .. The Y510's and Y410's had a much higher DOA rate in the beginning, so it looks like the quality is a bit better on these. Still no solid ETA on the higher end touch models - last we heard was shipping to us sometime around June 22nd. And of course no ETA on the 4K's - last we heard on those is that one of the 4K model SKU's may hit the Lenovo website by next week.

Sorry bud, but I know that Lenovo Canada had 4700 models listed, as recent as last week (I've been impatiently checking.) Either way they won't ship soon (see below.)
Myself, I order from Lenovo Canada because the EPP program knocks big chunks of change off the websites best sale prices:

I bought a Y50 non-touch (base with 4710) from Lenovo Canada on 6/3. CS confirmed (yesterday) my scheduled ship date is 6/24 with delivery of 7/3. -
sorry for being noob but
what is DOA? ._.
and SKU?
thx

I'm just thinking about getting one of these laptops. Which one is the better model? I'm leaning toward the one that has 4GB of that graphics card (I assume that's better right?) But it also has the lower number in the processor side. I want to know how big of a difference is that compared to the processor in the other models. Thanks!

DOA is dead on arrival
SKU is stock keeping unit

I think I'm gonna return my Y50 or give it to m bro and get a 13 inch computer.
Decided this thing aint for me. -
Is there more you didn't like about it besides the size?
-
Seriously...
-
Oh, interesting. They didn't have any i7-4700 models listed on the first day the Y50 appeared on the Canadian site (when I ordered the 512GB SSD model, which I cancelled last week due to the matte screen not being Y510-quality). Regardless, they're bound to be slow as heck.
Also, you do know that the EPP thing only docks off like $20 more, right? I wouldn't really call that "bug chunks of change". The $200-$350 discounts are available even to regular customers and are always active: all they do is make the laptop price normal instead of inflated. For example, after tax the 512GB top Non-Touch model I ordered from the Canadian site cost me $1650 (Canadian dollars) after tax. Even with Lenovo's $350 discount on it. While the base Touch model from Klick's Ebay listing only cost $1630 (Canadian dollars) after factoring in tax, PayPal currency conversion fees, and international delivery charges. Sure I have to buy an 8GB RAM stick and an SSD myself for maybe $300 total, but the nicer screen with more vivid colours and Touch functionality (which I might like after I try it out) and the much, MUCH quicker delivery are worth it in my opinion. I'll end up spending around $300 extra compared to ordering from Lenovo Canada and will get my laptop months sooner and with a nicer, more premium-looking screen with more vivid colours. Which is really important and totally worth the couple hundred bucks. For people living in the states, the Touch model from Klick is an even better deal - much more so, in fact. But even for Canadians it is pretty good.
-
so does that mean 4k will be hitting the market next week?
-
As PsylentStorm and fantasticzig asked: why? Did you experience any problems with it apart from size and maybe bad battery life? The battery life is what'll annoy me most for sure, I think, because I'd have to plug the laptop in to watch longer movies (> 2 hours runtime) on max brightness. And in class I'd have to keep the screen brightness down for the laptop to last more than 2-3 periods. Neither of those battery woes is that big for me though, as I always have a plug around at both work and home and almost never have more than 2 consecutive classes I want to use my laptop in. I'm entering my last year anyways, so soon that'll be even less of an issue. That said, I'm sure a few random times will come up when I wish I had more battery time, which is why I said bad battery life will probably be the biggest annoyance to me. But as I explained it'll come up rarely in my case and I'm willing to live with it for the rest of the Y50's qualities.
-
Nobody knows. We can assume it will happen soon though.
Klick said it would arrive at the end of this week, and that was last week. We're all just speculating
-
I have another question: Why does that 4th model on their website (59421836) more expensive than the 2nd model (59421845) when they seem to have the same specs except for the more expensive one has less hard drive space?
-

Well, technically, we didn't say it definitely would arrive .. we just passed on info from our sales rep who said they should be putting up one of the 4K models on the Lenovo website by the end of this week ... I'd say 50/50 chance at best as the info is often inaccurate. -
KlickOnline Company Representative
Because the 1845 is on sale, and the 1836 is not. You'll also notice the 1836 takes 3+ weeks to ship, and the 1845 ships in 7-9 days .. When Lenovo is backed up on a certain model, they will remove the sale price.GAmadeus likes this. -
No, the laptop is great. Really I have no complaints at all. Just a wonderful machine.
I do a lot of traveling though and I don't want to have a 15.6 inch machine on my lap while flying. -
Five thousand posts and the damn thing still hasnt completely arrived !!

What does getting a lemon mean? But it's really hard to play with on wifi at least on my connection. I just don't get how my much older computers are handling the wifi better than this computer and if there's any way to fix it.
-
Every Lenovo laptop I have ever had has had absolutely horrendous wireless performance. I don't know what it is, but out of the box - terrible! I almost swore of Lenovo completely when I got my U410 since it was so bad, I could hardly stay connected for more than 5 minutes.
In almost every case, fully re-installing the operating system has completely resolved all issues. With Windows 8, all I did was a 'Reset' and things have been fantastic. Something with the bloatware wireless drivers/software Lenovo installs was giving me constant dropouts. I don't know what it was. If I tried to uninstall the driver or overwrite it with a different one from Intel, the problem would persist. Something with still having the driver installed on the system or not being able to fully remove the software...I'm not really sure.
It's not the greatest solution, but I expect it is the same issue. Doing a reset and just using the automatically installed Windows driver has worked great for me in the past. -
I need to completely reinstall the OS again?
Agh, >.<.
I'm so close to just giving up, I've been trying to figure this out for the past 2 days.
Not only that but when I'm plugged in, my fps maintains good fps, but as soon as it's off battery, it drops way way down.
Ex: 250 fps becomes 30 fps. -

This sounds exactly like the Nvidia card isn't being used when it's on battery .. It's only using the Intel integrated graphics. -
Okay is there a difference in keyboard flex on the touch and non touch?

Dang, Klick's deals are cheaper than what I could get with the IBM Employee discount (15% off). I need to figure how to link PayPal to my bank account and get it on order. The base touch model is the one for me. I can always add an SSD later if I wanted to, and the extra ram in the higher models isn't something I need.

I've never owned a gaming laptop, but I'm guessing you've already checked to make sure the GTX doesn't get shut off when you unplugged it? That's the only thing I know/could think of..

Does anyone know of a program that does graphics switching on PC like gfxCardStatus for Mac?

I always install a fresh copy of windows, whether I am having issues or not, just love the stock junk less and clean experience.

Isn't that getting a little harder to do these days? I used to do that all the time but ran into issues with Win 8.1 models. I figure just uninstall the junk and roll from there.

Mine is scheduled for Thursday also I will update then.
