And lots are under 100. The ones I found on ebay that are 4K though are 40pin. Don't know if there is an adapter or not though because 1080 are 30pin.
That being said is it in agreement from folks that have or are considering this laptop that there isn't really a better deal? I see the Sager Np6285-S for about the same price but its ugly as sin to be honest. I may get it anyway. I am also keeping an eye on the ASUS GX-500 but it seems they are releasing it to compete with the blade so a 2k pricetage seems about right even though I wish it was under 1500
-
Okay, I'll get some screen shots here pretty soon.
-
How is the flex in the keyboard on this laptop? I saw a couple of videos where there seemed to be a bit of flex present. Does it feel spongy when typing normally or is the keyboard comparable to thinkpad keyboards?
-
I have really slow download speeds with this computer. I know it isn't my internet because I downloaded the same thing at the same time on another computer and it downloaded very fast. What could be the problem here?
-
1. macbook indeed have higher quality batteries but that's not main reason it has good battery life. the main reason is one of the NASTIEST methods to make it seem to have good battery life, it's called power limit.
anyways it doesn't make a difference to gaming laptops having worse batteries, but what I'm saying other similar laptops don't have good battery lives either so it's just the trend
2. pixels are not the major problem here, you limit the res so your CPU and GPU does less work and saves more energy
3. i mean this is a 15.6" display, if we are really talking about watching movies on a couch, there's something called a TV ya know... I'm not saying you have to watch it on a TV or larger monitor, but I'm saying those are some options -
Ok, whatever. I'll just say that numbers can in fact paint the wrong picture. 95% NTSC IPS screens can still potentially have an ugly yellow tint if they get coated in cheap matte finish. Or an ultra-wide-gamut IPS screen may not have a bright enough backlight for nice viewing. Or some screen that has technically good numbers may have ridiculous reflections that are worse than anything on an average glossy display. Point is, there are many factors that decide how a display actually looks in person. And also, gamut readings change depending on colour calibration.
The trouble is that you're saying incorrect things, not opinions. Not all opinions are equal and since you don't actually have the laptop and now have a track record of making overly melodramatic, negative statements, your's are pretty low down on the list. My grandma could probably give better opinions.
Anyways, that's enough fighting. Sorry if I was mean. -
I bought a lower end Sager back in October/November and I ing hated it. Terrible customer service and the whole machine was just meh at best. Which is why I sold it and got the y50. So, I'd say avoid Sager.
I was also looking into the Gigabyte p34/35 when I was browsing for a new computer. Had I not bought this y50, I probably would have bought the p35.
As for this screen on the y50, I thought it might have just been my eyes, but I often find myself having a bit of trouble with looking at it. I don't really now how to describe it, but I'm always moving the screen to find the right angle to look at. I also noticed that I usually have the brightness pretty high. Anything lower than 75%, depending on where I am, makes it difficult to see. -
-
What have I said that was straight up incorrect besides maybe that movie watching thing? If you're constantly referring to that comment then you are fixating far too much.
Your arguments about the numbers may be correct, but the fact is in the vast majority of cases higher % coverage in sRGB and AdobeRGB leads to a better viewing experience well as better color accuracy. Are there exceptions? Perhaps, but unless you point me to several of them, I am going to treat the cases you stated as outliers.
Melodramatic:
exaggerated and emotional or sentimental; sensational or sensationalized; overdramatic
Please, quote where I fit this description. I make an effort to not let emotion get into arguments, actually. The movie comment? If so then that's very shallow of you to judge me on one comment.
So just because my opinions are not those of praise they are automatically melodramatic and void?
You call my opinions bs, worthless, then compare me to your grandma?(I'm assuming in a derogatory manner)
Then apologize for being "mean"
You really are something -
I managed to snag this Clevo ( Eurocom Shark 3 (Clevo W355SS) Review) for under $1200 all-in. The specs I got are different from this review (I essentially got exactly the same specs as the Y50).
Ugly as sin, as you may say. But a much better screen, no wifi issues, no bloatware. -
Was ordering from Eurocom cheaper than say xotic or lpcdigital? Because there is a horror story about eurocom on this very forum that made me blacklist them from retailers that I would deal with
Right here if you wanna take a look

Whoa, so are the higher end models on the Lenovo US website 4k now?
-
And Lenovo has such fantastic customer service?
Most reviews say to avoid Sager and deal with a reseller (such as XoticPC). I'm typing this on a Clevo - very pleased with it. Didn't buy it from Sager - very smart on my part. -
It's been better than Sager and xoticpc, which is where I bought my sager from.
-
Is altcntrl orsorry whatever his username is, he getting this apparent y50 tiger direct ips today?
-
Disclaimer: I live in Canada, so my view of which is cheaper has a lot to do with the exchange rate, shipping, taxes and customs duties.
XoticPC would charge $1134 US, plus whatever customs would charge (I assume customs would add a total of at least $100 to the order). So yes, it is more expensive to order from Xotic. Not to mention you'd probably add the $34 two-way shipping add-on, otherwise warranty work would quickly get expensive. My guess is when's all said and done, the Xotic option would be close to $200 more. And Eurocom isn't a Sager re-seller: they buy Clevo's and build them themselves. And since I paid $1200 CAD, it was even cheaper.
So far my experience has been decent. Eurocom said my laptop would be ready in a few days, as they build and then test it.
The one I currently have I bought from Best Buy, so I can't share my purchasing experience with Eurocom for that one. All I can say is the Clevo itself is pretty good. It's a grown-up machine.
I've had a bad experience when buying from Lenovo in the past (tried to get a Y510, whole mess there, was sent the wrong laptop, and other mistakes). No company we people tend to deal with is perfect.
That being said, if you're in the US, XoticPC might be cheaper. I'm in Canada, so the border duties would kill me. -
I personally have no experience with either, but my Lenovo experience was a tad bit worse than my (so far) experience with Eurocom.
Time will tell. -
ah I see the problem with yours. so somehow I don't for what reason but your NVLTi file is shown as a text document rather an inf file, probably because you did something unknowingly with it. then I would recommend deleting that and redownload the file again, make sure it's shown as "setup information" rather than "text document" and then replace it and do the rest
-
See, that's what I thought it was but I wasn't sure. When I try to save the file from mega it's default is notepad and text file. I'll see if I can change it.
I don't think any company is perfect - everyone will have different experiences. -
lenovo certainly doesn't have the best CS in the world but it is a lot better than sager. what sager does from what I heard is they basically assign your warranty to local computer repair stores and let them with w.e. issues occurs. chances are they'll do w.e. to prove that your problem is not covered in the warranty where as for mega corporations such as lenovo they'll just repair w.e. problems regardless.
the point is not to say sager/clevo sucks, the point is whenever you encounter a problem that you can't fix by yourself, you'll get easier times with lenovo rather than sager/clevo, which is one reason why people like or dislike certain brands. -
it should be OPENED through notepad by default but it shouldn't be a text document. hmm that's the weird thing. the other thing the last guy who had the same problem with you did is he turned off "hide file extension" and it worked for him. I would recommend you download it a couple times and try to see if it's still like that and then deal with the hide file extension thing
-
How would I save it as an .inf? It's defaulted to text and I can't seem to change it.
Just tried downloading it again and I can't seem to change it from a .txt file. Even when I try saving it again under something else.
Edit1*
I turned off the file extension hider and then edited the name deleting off the .txt file and it saved as an .inf. I'm going to try and redo everything now.
Edit2*
SUCCESS! I got it. Thanks for your help my dude.
One last one question though, while watching this video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKt7HF_-jAk, he says he shouldn't have done an express install. Can you verify that?heibk201 likes this. -
then there is something that i dont understand yet. The touch screen and the non touch screen is the same except one is matte and the other is glossy..or one has better quality than the other?
sorry about my english =S -
The matte and glossy versions have the exact same panels. People have claimed that the glossy one looks better because the colors "pop more"
Take that how you will, but do note that you will not be able to use glossy screens in sunlight as the reflections will make it unusable -
Just a heads up, those of you who got the SSHD... If you replace it, trying to use the drive for something else doesn't seem to be working. I tried it over SATA to USB 3, USB 2, and SATA. None of them worked. The drive was recognized, but it wouldn't initialize for some reason.
-
wow this is a legit horror story, seems like my image of clevo resellers is renewed once again...
-
there's nothing wrong with an express install, you just have to adjust some settings to get the best you want. my personal recommendation to beeho was to set physX from automatic to GPU only to lower the CPU temp because his was getting too hot for some reason. good to hear that it worked
-
They are not the same panel. I had a different model than a matte user. see a few pages back for the exact model numbers.

Just got my Y50 from tigerdirect and i have the same hardware ID on the monitor.Oranjoose, KlickOnline, rupeshwar and 1 other person like this.
-
I've heard nothing but good experiences about xoticpc and lpcdigital so I don't think that should be a blanket image...
-
That was also from 2009.
-
I read somewhere you need drivers for the WD black drives to work properly.
Sent from my ASUS PadFone X using Tapatalk -
that's because there are 3 total panels that all FHD versions can have. anyone that orders non touch get one of the 3, and anyone that orders touch can get one of the same 3.
-
Are the y50's higher end models on the Lenovo US site 4K configured?
-
It was, but I think it says something about the company when the president himself makes an account on a public forum in order to defend his company inconspicuously.
But id rather not get into this -
I agree, it'll highjack the thread.
-
You have a case to create an argument that you bought a product that was not as describe on Tiger's website .
An IPS panel is not the same as a TN -
So I guess only the 4k's will be IPS. But then again no one has confirm this either.
The saga continues...... -
So... its not IPS?
Shocker
-
yes it's from 2009, your point is?
those aren't the only clevo resellers. there are good ones and there are bad ones like you and I both know. my image of the "bad" ones is renewed.
at the end of the day, the lesson is that brand is important when it comes to warranty and CS -
My point is that companies change over 5 years. Is it the same president, same employees? Lots of companies learn from their mistakes and better themselves. And some do not. I'm not sure yet which side of this Eurocom falls into.
That being said, I'm sure you're intelligent enough that you didn't need me to elaborate. So why bother asking? Did you really need me to point out to you how things can change over a 5-year period? -
Buffering videos and downloading anything on this computer takes a noticeably longer time than on my other laptop. What could be the problem and any solutions? Help is much appreciated.
-
Now where's that doggy guy who was spreading all the BS about Lenovo changing the display.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
So is like a Russian roulette lol
-
well first I would identify whether it's the source or receiver's problem and since you said before it's most likely the wifi cards problem, I would say check/optimize your wifi settings, see if you need to update any drivers. should all of that fail, then you probably should consider an USB wifi adapter
sitting in a tigerdirect office maybe? LOL -
It would have been odd for Lenovo to change display types so soon after their introduction.Earlcooo likes this.
-
It's funny because the people at TigerDirect is still claiming it's an IPS display. ><"
-
Of course they are. It's on their spec sheet and in their small little world the spec sheet never lies. No matter what company you call, they will always make claims as to what they have on their database. None of them, I repeat, none of them have opened the box and verified the contents for you. Even Brian, who appears to have good customer service and wants to help us out, hasn't opened all the models and verified the specs are exactly what Lenovo tells him they are. I'm kind of glad that it wasn't a better screen tbh. Can't imagine the sea of comments I would have to read through over the weekend.
