So they are sticking with the same (fingerprint magnet) "brushed aluminum style" material used on the deck of the Y510p.
Lenovo, better release this soon, you are losing customers to Clevo![]()
-
not really though, not that many people would prefer a brick. I see lenovo's main competitors as MSI and razer. Clevo indeed has good laptops, but aesthetics matter in today's world
-
Sorry to butt in, but while we're on the topic of grammar correctness, it's "a guy who doesn't know", not "a guy who don't know".
-
Oh snap, don't he look rather silly than..
-
Oh yes...my grammar is really important in this thread....especially since i'm not an english speaking native.
I wasn't using the weight as an argument...I was answering to the guy saying:"alluminium is light ...so the laptop is not made from alluminium because 5.7 pounds is too heavy" but I see you have no problem with his statement
)
Also you say you saw the laptop....pls tell me if you agree that the lid and bottom are made from the same material . -
The y510 had a GLOSSY(not brushed alluminium style) plastic keyboard deck and display bezel...the handrest and lid where full alluminium
The bottom was black plastic...with no "alluminium finish"
Also to those of you who use the "alluminium doesn't gather fingerprints" argument... here is a topic on how to clean fingerprints....off of brushed alluminium
)
http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/24899-cleaning-brushed-aluminium/
Basically anything that has any degree of light reflectivity will show fingerprints like mad...the darker the color the more fingerprints will be visible -
I just really hope it is aluminium haha
-
I hope it's titanium with diamond logo.
-
What are you, a pleb?
You forgot to mention the platinum deposition layer. -
I don't really want to argue this any further because something like 5 of us agree that you are wrong, so here's just a picture of the current y510p.

And one of the Y50-

Ahem. Those pictures seem to match a certain description of mine.
-
Yes? Your point? I know that you said that, the guy who tried to start an internet fight had a different description, so I posted a couple pics.
-
My point is that all that a lot of people completely botched their description of the y50, but the actual screenshots support mine. You'd think more people would do their research become commenting.
-
Well look at that Y50. It looks like it has those "speaker lights" that poster talked about in the Y510p thread.
Yeah, I guess I am dumb.

Yeah, I totally agree with you.
-
Perhaps said poster suffers from dyslexia?
-
I am so happy they didn't do the same layout as the X1 Carbon
-
DUDE i clearly stated in post #593....the brushed alluminium is on lid and bottom.
The handrest has a matte coating.....that's why some people think it's plastic
.....where did I botch my description...please quote me.
Here is a review saying "matte, metallic surface on the keyboard deck." and "a cross-hatch aluminum finish on its lid"
http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc...and-netbooks/lenovo-y50-review-1207894/review
Either your memory sucks or you're just trolling.
My description was perfectly matching the picture you posted.
Here is the bottom of the laptop...alluminium....the same like the top.
http://www.computershopper.com/var/...ng-US/lenovo-y50-underside_slideshow_main.jpg
My description was basically the same as Lance Avion with wich you seem to agree...I really don't understand your gripe. -
Dude you are going too serious for a troll. I think it's pretty obvious that the y50 isn't made of plastic, but some people just like to troll that. -
After following this thread for some time, I couldn't wait any longer and decided to go with a Clevo. While I love the way the Y50 looks, I think I got a much better value at the cost of some aesthetic pros from the Y50. If anyone is looking for a comparison (even though the official price hasn't been confirmed for the Y50), I was able to get an i7 4810 MQ processor, GTX 870m 6gb card, 16gb of RAM, a 120gb SSD for the OS, and a 750gb 7200rpm HDD for storage for $1550. Sure it will be a little clunkier (around 6.8lbs), but I'm not carrying it around daily. I just like to have the convenience to move it around when I need to.
It also came with some free bonuses like thermal compound for the CPU and GPU, fingerprint reader, upgraded wireless card, and a blu-ray reader, but these weren't deal breakers for me.
Not trying to sway anyone away from the Y50--I probably would have gone with it if it was available. But I figured this would help provide a comparison point with other models. -
Are sure the GPU has 6GB of RAM
-
Yes, this is what was a part of the build:
NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 870M GPU with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM -
6gb of vram is so useless. Even a gtx 770 with 2gb ddr5 is enough.
-
For gaming, it's quite redundant, but for video rendering, it's not..H01D3N likes this.
-
unless u tell me u are loading 100000 side polygons, then its still useless.
-
On another note, Nvidia just released a new titan with 12gb vram
-
that has nothing to do with how useful vram is
-
You obviously don't do any sort of real photo and video editing.
-
It doesn't have 12GB VRAM. Titan Z is two Titan Black GPU's on a single PCB so it's 6GB per GPU and total 6GB usable since the frame buffer is mirrored in SLI. Saying it's a 12GB card is just marketing speak.
Anyway, unless you're making Pixar movies or some other non-gaming related heavy 3D content creation you're not gonna need anywhere near that much VRAM. 4GB is more than enough for 4K gaming. You'll run into bottlenecks elsewhere in the system long before you run out of GPU memory.H01D3N likes this. -
Nvidia/AMD is just marketing VRAM for the console-dummies who think the 8GB GDDR5 "unified" RAM is better.
Thing is you don't need more than 2GB of VRAM for 1080p. -
Unless you're playing a modded Elder Scrolls game. Then you need all the VRAM you can get hahajl0329 likes this.
-
so your point of saying that fact is? or should i say cool story?
-
It should've been 32gb vram, 16gb per gpu. I dont give a if it's useless or not, if it's gonna be $3,000, I want everything in excess...
Back to the y-series topic...
I feel that the y-series would be released later than we expected. According to Lenovo.com ( Lenovo Newsroom | New Lenovo PCs Keep Personal Life in Sync with Beautiful Design and Top Technologies)
The Z40 and Z50 should've been released already. -
If they're gonna charge that much, sure, give it double VRAM and make it a Quadro or Tesla...
-
That document seems to confirm pricing begins at 999 and not 699

yeh i agree. Playing dota 2 max settings at 1366x768 only used 500mb of vram at its peak.
Saw it while i was monitoring gpu temps. -
Thats the thing though, when the y510p and y410p was released, it was also $999. But they're always running this sale on their website making it constantly $700 - $800... Kinda like a marketing strategy.
-
Interesting. It's pretty confusing that in all the videos I've seen so far the reps claimed it would start at 699, but documentation says otherwise... I guess that explanation makes the most sense.

I know!! The 560ti I had since few years ago has no problem with any modern game at 1080p. But when it comes to my heavily modded Skyrim, it's like I am playing without a dedicated graphic card.... My skyrim folder is about 280GB with all the mods now...
-
I find it extremely hard to believe the model with 860M and HiDPI panel will be under 1500
-
Lack of info regarding the Y50/40 from Lenovo is making it's luster lack fer me...
-
I'm with you. I had my choices narrowed down to the Y50, MSI GS60 and the Razer Blade 14 and have chosen to stick with Lenovo. The other two seem to have announced release dates, but I have yet to hear anything from Lenovo. I hope they give us a date soon.
-
Ditto.

well considering that you can get the y510p with 755m sli for 1000, anything is possible with lenovo
-
Your choices seem to have a really wide range of prices...
-
I gave up... Decided I wanted better than the GTX 860m, especially with a good chance of it being the Kepler 860m. This purchase is a desktop replacement for me anyhow, so I went bigger and heavier and louder... =)
