Great news! The only things that I really have a problem with then would be the 4700 @ 2.4GHz instead of 4710 @ 2.5GHz, the 2GB of VRAM. Both of which will probably have no noticeable difference when it comes to performance. I was planning on replacing the 256GB SSD with a 2TB HDD anyways. Maybe I'll be able to sell the SSD.

It is 10% off there was already a forum member that was able to order it with the discount. Sometimes you need to push the sales rep to do it. Remember it is their job to make money.

Wow, congrats and shocked this model actually exists! MS Store either removes bloatware, or gets the manufacturers to not install it, on all their computers (what they call Microsoft Signature). Stupid question - but did you verify the specs on the computer itself? Resolution, touch the screen (!) .. Also, I know people are going to ask - what's the refresh rate?

Brian, Are you reading my mind that was the next question i was going to ask. And Microsoft gets the manufacture not to install it.

Most of the time - but sometimes they actually open them up and remove it themselves (either that, or they have a special restore disk that they use). When they do that, they reseal them up with white Microsoft Signature tape. We used to actually use MS Store as a supplier over the years for some systems. At times they are cheaper than the manufacturer. Sometimes they left fingerprints on the computers and screens due to this process, but yeah I'd say 90% of them now they probably get the manufacturers to do for them.

    Yep, its real :)

Refresh rate is 48hz, it is the same 4K panel as the non touch version. Everything else is really identical so no point in typing a review up. I may do a initial opinion though in a few hours.

DPI sure is wonky though. I've got 20/10 vision so I can read it but finding the perfect balance is going to take a bit

Yea I can see how they use to do that. But I was with BBY for 14 years and we started our signature line we made the manufactures do it for us, using that retail muscle. But i know Microsoft must throw that around also. But i have seen the reseal tapes ones just not in a long time they probably got tired of having to sell it open box per certain state guidelines. BBY use to do pre-installs of AV and got in the same trouble it wasn't worth the effort.

And I have seen the BBY exclusive 4k touch version in the pipeline but have no ETA as of yet for that version or price. But was confirmed its about 3 weeks out.

Wow it is pretty sad that MS Store has one now, BBY has been notified 3 weeks ago of their exclusive 4k Touch version - yet Lenovo and even the senior Lenovo division guys say it's not even being built yet ... man what a disconnect they have!

I run mine in FHD most of the time right now. Most programs/websites aren't optimized for the higher DPI and do not scale well at all. When I cloned my 256GB SSD to a 512GB I had to boot to True Image and I literally had to take a picture of the screen with my phone then zoom in to read the text it was so small. I don't regret buying the UHD model at all though. What 4K content is out there is gorgeous. Next investment will be an external 4K display. Just have to figure out how to justify it to the fiance... :nah:

nice! it's even harder now to decide between gx500 and y50 from MS Store. (comes down to Longer-Battery vs Cooler-To-The-Touch-Due-To-Soft-Touch-Plastic-Instead-Of-Full-Aluminum respectively imo).

    also: battery life.

I've set my UHD to 1920 x 1080 as well, and it works fine for most things, but there are still the occasional programs where things are wonky and either way too big and I can't scroll to view buttons, or way too small and I can't even read the text. Here's hoping this issue will be fixed as high-DPI monitors become more prevalent.

On a separate note, I'm still undecided between the GS60 Ghost Pro and the y50 4k touch, I know neither laptop can actually run games above 1080 but the gs60 has an 870m (keppler :( ), is lighter and smaller, albeit slightly more expensive

    What do you guys think?

Theirs is more expensive than ones from klick or the lenovo website and is lacking the specs to be more expensive.
Theirs is a gtx860m 2gb and only a 256gb ssd on the 4k while other places have the 512 gb ssd and 4gb 860 for less.

I guess the customization is the only reason to buy from them over other retailers.

I just wanted to know, on the MS website it says the laptops dimensions are 15.24" x 13.11" x 0.94 in which is like 3 inches longer (from top to bottom) than the non-touch y50 4k (15.23" x 10.37" x 0.9"), is this true or is this just an typo of some sort?

So this is the solution for those who are complaining about the FHD version of lenovo y50's bad screen quality. Currently xoticpc is offering this (15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) ) for $165. Its quite expensive, IMO versus the price of the IPS panel that the others used to replace their units. But you still get a warranty though. I want to ask you guys how can Xoticpc offer mSATA option on their y50 when it was already confirmed that it has no additional storage?

Update: Oh I have overlooked this ((If selecting mSATA Options these will replace primary hard drive with mSATA’s selected below)

Its still expensive though but you get an additional storage.

Hey everyone, i just got my Y50 today in the mail and I am looking at getting a cooling pad for it. I was looking at Zalmans mostly; but the problem I see is that Zalmans blow air up to the laptop rather than sucking it down away from it.

Does anyone know if the vents on the bottom of the Y50 suck in or blow out? Will a Zalman cooler work for this laptop?

Actually notebookcheck's review of the gl550jk shows that it heats up too... Touches 59-60 in more than 2 areas.... The gx500 or g551 will definitely heat up more unless asus has changed their cooling system

I doubt it'll be priced around the y50 price range too...

But I think turbo boost works pretty well..... And screen will be good for sure...

With the specs they are showing it sounds like it'll be at least $1800 and probably more (+ $100 for the ROG branding), and I doubt you can really get a laptop that size to stay cool unless half of the laptop is just a giant fan. But yea it sounds good however you get the same for less right now with the y50

The UHD Touch is the model I'll go for as long as I can see at least one Y50 in the wild (preferably UHD). I don't see Asus or anyone else matching that price/performance balance and no one else seems close. If I can pop out the SSD in a couple years for a 512 I'd think I could further extend the life.

My only questions is will the MS Store model stay exclusive or will Lenovo eventually carry one?

Has anyone changed their Intel wifi card? In Europe we are getting much worse wifi card Qualcomm Atheros AR956x b/g/n no 5 Ghz, so I was wondering if anyone had spare that is compatible with Y50. I would be interested in buying that. Either AC 3160 or AC 7260, any of them will do. Thanks

I believe you're looking for something like this:
Amazon.com: Patuoxun® Power Converter Cable Adapter for Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 0B47046 Laptop: Computers & Accessories

All of Lenovo's charging ends are the same, as far as I know. I think there were older ones that were different.

    EDIT: Found something cheaper: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-5mm-x-2-1...S_Power_Cables_Connectors&hash=item2c85e4b597

Mike at ultrabookreview.com has a prerelease model. His full review isn't out yet but he posted a couple spoilers in the NX500 thread. My problems with it:
    -Gets very hot(no underside vents)
-silver keys on a silver chasis with light blue backlight. No contrast whatsoever...
-his had a little coil whine
-expensive(US site has the same unit for $2200) At that price, I'd rather just get a rMBP(after the 800 series refresh of course).

I still like the GX500 but my guess is it will get even hotter with the lack of an underside intake. It has vents on the bottom but the fan isn't attached to it. So now I'm back to the Y50 but that 48Hz is still an issue. Microsoft's price might make it worth it though.
