But I don't see any "holes" for the airflow exhaust there. And also, the user guide says that the exhaust are at the part between the monitor and keyboard.

And according to the manual the rounded grill on the bottom part is subwoofer and the large grill next to it is airflow exhaust so it's different than in the article above. I will contact LenovoBlog.cz for more info...bva91 likes this.

I think I was wrong about it, it's blinded too (only some decoration
). My expectations are that airflow exhausts are on the bottom (additional one) and main exhaust is between keyboard and screen like MacBooks have (it's good design for cooling but not the best so I do not understand why are exhausts at the rear blinded. Maybe for some "cool" design effect...).
Sorry for my English. -
This is so silly, of course people care about the audio quality of their devices, specially if you are paying good money for it. Not 100% of people uses external audio solutions 100% of the time... to think its like that is so...
I have a very high quality Home Theater at home also Headsets and still I use my laptop sound frequently, its all about convenience and different situations, and of course I want my laptop built in sound to be as good as possible.
I have a Y510p with that hybrid 5400 HD + 8GB SSD cache and it boots from cold off to desktop ready on like 15 seconds... really o.o. Only the stupid Win 8 password thing stops the fast boot (how do I turn off that btw?) I had the Y500 before with the 5400 HD with no SSD cache and was way slower to boot, so I can say the SSHD really helps, it also boost up frequent programs like Chrome to open faster. Of course is not as good as an SSD to save everything on there, but its a pretty nice and cheaper thing to have instead of plain HD.LanceAvion, Medlock87, rupeshwar and 1 other person like this. -

HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, :hi2:
Well for those of you who want some more money off of the y40/y50 i came across another post that posted a link with password for corporate perk saving.
https://shop.lenovo.com/perksoffer/...o/y-series/y40/&PUBNAME=Slickdeals+LLC&NID=CJ
Password: NJYPWWP
I forgot where the original sharer thread was but thanks him (spiritually) for this wonderful information.
Should save you guys another extra $100 so the base price of y50 would be $1,049
Have fun  -
That's pretty awesome. Makes all models a good bit more competitive price wise.
-
Any idea how long that coupon is supposed to last?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
btw...was just checking with rep...the 8gb model is using single slot so you can later put more ram in
BlazeHN likes this. -
I'm not sure how long it'll last or it's even a coupon. But i think it's gonna last a while since this is a corporate benefit/perk for someone who affiliated with their site. The guy who has it shared with people in another thread so that was nice of him. It'll probably last until someone probably went through this post and report it to corporate and they change the password
use it while you can i guess XD

Is there a commonly know student discount coupon that I missed the boat on? I feel like I've heard of this before.. Thanks!!
-
First of all I would like to thank you for posting this here.
Secondly I'd like to inform the forums that after months of waiting I've finally went ahead and placed an order.
I didn't want to take the risk of waiting and then having the corporate discount stop working.
For $1,049 I really don't think there will be any laptop that can beat this. I plan on replacing the hard drive with a 256gb SSD in the future and using an extral HD for storage.
Now comes the waiting game of up to 30 days. I can't wait!
P.S. Does anyone know if it's normal for Lenovo to have charged me sales tax? I live in Florida and it caught me off guard since I've never had to pay tax before when I've ordered things online. -
Just google student discount on google for lenovo. The discount is applied in cart already.Dberner likes this.

There is a student discount like chowmeow mentioned just google it but it'll only save you about $50 i think. The link i post you save you about $100. I hope that help
.

Yes Lenovo normally charges tax for orders placed from their website.

Thanks for the reply.

Bad news for those of use waiting on the 4k version. Lets hope this article is incorrect. Could be July before we see it.
Lenovo's first 4K IdeaPad laptops missing 4K displays | PCWorldstisa likes this. -
So they seem to claim there is a 4k Y40, but I thought only the Y50 would've had the 4k display? Could it be that they spoke to the same reps we learned not to trust?
Also :lol? 4x 4k? -
I don't see how specs like the 860m is supposed to drive a 4k resolution anyway.
-
I don't think it's was made to push 4k gaming. Just there for nice visuals in other media.
-
Just FYI, you can also get the $100 off (same as that corporate discount) with the Barnes and Noble Gold discount program. Just made an account, and the site shows the base model for $1049.

I'd rather buy from xotic with student discount. California taxes x(

A Lenovo online chat rep said it should be available from resellers by the end of the month..but I think we all know how trustworthy they are. He didn't know anything about when they'd be available with dual band ac 7260 cards either.
-
What's wrong with Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160?
-
it's 1x1 dual bandwidth rather than the 2x2 of 7260AC. it's a nerfed version of 7260 that's about $15 cheaper
-
KlickOnline Company Representative
My Lenovo rep said the 4K version should be out within the next 3-4 weeks, so that aligns with what you heard as well. Rep is usually pretty well informed as we do a lot of business with Lenovo and our business rep has a pretty good inside track .. Speaking of which - if anyone wants a heck of a deal on the Y50's, just send me a PM -
The 7260ac costs $33 on newegg. Is the 3160 in the Y50 easily accessible? Newegg.com - Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC, dual-band, 2x2 Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth 4.0 Mini PCI Express combo Adapter - 867 Mbps+300Mbps - Internal - Wireless Adapters
Also, how come the Lenovo website says the Y50 "ships in 3-4 weeks"? If the Y50 indeed becomes available from resellers (e.g. Amazon) for a cheaper price by the end of the month, why wouldn't you just wait for free Amazon 2-day shipping, if both end up arriving around the same time? -
You can refer to this on how to disassemble the laptop and replacing the wifi card.
-
Sent a PM.
Oh, cool, thanks! -
Can you send me a pm? I am interested in a heck of a deal but I can't seem to find out how to send a pm on this stupid app. Been trying for the past 15 minutes. I try to add you as a friend and some stupid ad keeps blocking the yes button I need to hit.

I think you have to have a certain number of posts before you can send PM's. I couldn't send them either for a while, but I can now.
-
Really? The rep who sold me the Y50 said it's 2x4GB. Either way I'll see for sure when I open it up to replace the SSHD.BlazeHN likes this.

Ah that's interesting. Well I've been following this forum avidly for the past 2 weeks and I am about ready to pull the trigger on a y50. I'm just debating whether I want a touchscreen or if I should get the 1080p with an ssd. I only intend on playing dota 2 and csgo with it but I also want to start programming (beginning with python). I am only looking to spend 1200 at most. Are touchscreens a must have or should I be more worried about the hybrid HDD/ssd vs a full ssd.

Wish I could
I can't seem to PM either. Would love a heck of a deal if there is another way...

The 755 SLI is 2GB per GPU. Still an effective 2GB.
2GB is still plenty of vram and will be for decent amount of time into the future. The 860M is a better choice than the 755 SLI in almost every way. Lighter, less power, easier to cool, nearly same performance, and results in a thinner laptop.BlazeHN likes this. -
Yo, did your blade come yet?
-
Not yet. Estimate is 21st.
-
They have fixed the article last night and it's corresponds to the manual now. So once again the red grill at bottom is a subwoofer and the large grill next to it is airflow exhaust for additional cooling and in a rear is only blinded exhaust like think only for decoration. Main exhaust is between keyboard and screen.

So the air blows up?????
Any chance you could ask them for a more detailed review of the cooling system and the viewing angles.. .... I understand its a pre release model... But it would give us an idea...

"The 4K displays will show images at four times the resolution of 3840x2160 pixels"

Yes, air blows up (mainly which is good).
Sure I will ask them for more info about Y50 and translate it for you!

The air blows up in front of the screen, right? Will it make using the touchscreen uncomfortable?
-
I don't think so because screen is warm only few centimeters from exhaust (I presume this because of my experiences with MacBook Pro which is always hot as hell and has an exhaust in front of the screen).
Sent from iPad and... well sorry for my English!

A China website updated a price list for the upcoming Y40 and Y50 models in China (which might be fake, but the website is quite reputable and often have reliable sources). No SSD configuration but there is a 4K resolution model. The price list is subjected to change.
The column to the most right is "backlit keyboard".
According to them the units are being shipped domestically right now and will be arriving in stores from 15/5 onwards.
