Has anyone said if the 860m is the only video memory on the y50 or if there is an onboard chip for less intensive tasks? Also - is there a msata or anything other than the single drive? I've been watching so many threads on different brands, I am very interested in the Y50 but can't remember if these items have been discussed.

Nevermind the msata question - just found the post saying only 1 drive - no msata or ngff ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/741832-y50-thread-210.html#post9647861)

Since it's powered by a i7 4700, it also comes with an integrated gpu 4600

So i am still highly optimistic of the 4K version that i am waiting for. But im sad the website use to say on the Features / Specs Tabs up to 4K 3840x2160 but that is now missing. Just didn't know if anyone else noticed that. Anyone Chat with a sales rep today so far?

I am guessing there would be a pretty hefty premium for the 4k display, the most I would spend is around 1100 so definitely not an option for me.

So if the intake is on the bottom, will I have to put a book under the laptop to get decent airflow when playing games? Kinda got tired of this with my last laptop

They changed features/specs few days ago but the 4K screen option will be available (I hope so) in June or at least it will be announced.

    hello!

i'm interested in msi GS60 or Lenovo Y50. Both laptops have similar specifications but lenovo will not available in Spain until september, i dont know if woth the wait to get y50. i'm working on my final project so i use autocad, photoshop, 3d studio+vray, after effects and other architecture sofware. i'm worried about high temperatures but the question is... why is Gtx 860 maxwell better than kepler version? If I understand correctly, the most important aspects of gpu for modeling and rendering in 3d studio are memory bandwidth, pixel rate, floating point performance, shading units, texture mapping and kepler has best levels. which one is better for me? im going to see the difference?

i know that thin and light laptos isnt the best to work in 3d but i need mobility.

Someone knows what temperature can reach Y50? is less than msi gs60?

thanks and sorry for my english!

It's Lenovo. They're changing specs even if it's few days to start shipping orders so it's hard to say if they change any other on Spec/Features page. :D

I can tell you only one thing: there are no reviews yet. I think that Maxwell 860M is good for what you want but not the best. If you make money (or will be in a near future) you might be rather thinking about NVIDIA Quadro graphics or equal GPUs.

Same for me but Touch model is only one without "anti glare" so it'll be still very glossy :)

I am seriously considering the Y50, but am starting to get concerned by all these delays associated with the 4k screen.

The PC Mag article notes that the Toshiba 4k model is also not available. That strongly suggests a manufacturing problem of some kind. It could be availability of parts, high levels of defective panels in the initial runs, durability issues with these screens (failing quality control), frankly almost anything. But they can't get these panels in bulk quantities yet for some reason.

The Apple Retina display has been around for a while now, you think UltraHD isn't unproven new tech. But these screens have even higher resolution than the Retina, so it really is out there on the bleeding edge. These things aren't expected to just sit on the wall and look pretty. They are going in laptops. So they have to hold up to being stuffed in backpacks, carried on planes, etc.

I'm thinking if you have to have one now, just get one and forget the 4k. If you want 4k, I'd wait until they've been out a few months just to make sure they are working right, we get some reviews out there by people with production ones in their hands, and so on. It could easily be September before we are in that position and even later than that before Windows is fully updated to scale properly at these higher resolutions.

Is the RB 14 w/ 4k out yet? I haven't looked close but I thought those were shipping at this point?

**EDIT** Looks like the RB 14 is also in a holding pattern. 3-4wk lead time on the Razerblade store.

I saw this interesting pattern as well. I'd like to think it's not indicative of instability with the component but it was interesting to see that almost every 4k laptop has missed it's street date.

Why Lenovo keep using those horrible one piece touchpads? I have seen $150 Mini Laptops with a better touchpad, its so annoying to place the cursor then try to click and have the cursor moved before the click is registered, and the "click" feedback itself its sooo weird and bad because the "buttons" sinks and fold when used... sighs... I really wonder why they keep using those touchpads over and over again.

Its too much to ask for a normal touchpad with 2 real buttons like this?

To those who are interested, the Z40 is now released with a mediocre gt 820m. What surprise me the most is, the pricing is very close to the y40. I mean, who is this laptop for? The y40 is only a couple of hundred dollars away with much better specs. Whats wrong with Lenovo?

I think Lenovo got a bit too cocky after the success of the Y510p and especially the Y500 and now they have the Apple mentality of thinking that they can charge whatever the hell they want and people will still buy their stuff.

Lol..not so much. Check out Apple's website. Their top-end MacBook Pro (which is the only one with dedicated graphics) is $2600 before you spec it out.
MacBook Pro - Buy MacBook Pro with Retina display - Apple Store (U.S.)

All that and it's only a GT 750m. It'd get trounced by laptops like this at half the price. It's sad cause the only thing stopping you from having a Mac is the Apple logo. I don't imagine it'd even be that hard to get Mac OS X running on this kind of computer.

    To me, it's so worth.

That's the price w/o a discount, in reality it will probably be a lot cheaper and the flagship z40 model w/ 840m will probably be that price after the discount

I think I have had it with all these delays for the Y50's 4K display. I kept waiting forever but I'm about done waiting. I think next week I'm either going to get the Toshiba 4K laptop:

    Toshiba Satellite P50T-BST2N01 Laptop

Or, I'm going to get the Dell Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation. It only has 3200X1800 so not quite 4K but I can get it built with super high end specs and I can have it in a couple of weeks. I'm done waiting for months for Lenovo to get their 4K stuff figured out. If Toshiba can do it, why can't Lenovo.

The Dell Precision M3800 Workstation | Dell

If there's anything else I should consider with at least a 4K or 3200X1800 > 15" display, please let me know.

at this point the y50 still has a good price/performance but it's just not competitive enough against the mainstream msi or razer

Lots of people are getting them from the MS store, Razer also shipped out a batch to pre-orders. I'm still waiting for my pre, 5/21 they said. With all these people canceling and going to the MS stores I might get it sooner. :)

Have you checked in the Toshiba is even available? I read in another thread that it's out of stock and that all laptop manufacturers who claim to offer 4K screens are having delays, likely caused because screens with this resolution and this size are brand new and difficult to produce in any quantity. So maybe it's not such a great idea to be on the bleeding edge of the resolution wars. I suspect people will have many more quality problems with the 4K panel than they will with the FHD panel.

    http://shop.lenovo.com/il/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/

This seems to be the latest regarding UK availability; seems to confirm Y50 4K Touch as "Premium" model, no mention of Y40.

Alas the rest of the specs are rather vague.

Availability is only listed as "Coming soon" and no pricing is indicated at this time.

Just want you all to know I just placed the order for the y50 touch screen model. Speaking with the rep this is the only touchscreen model they will have for the month. Also I was told that the WiFi 3160 will be the only card in all the models. And that the 8 GB RAM was 2x2. I will continue checking on this forum and when I get it I will gladly answer any questions

Toshiba is quoting a ship date of Monday May 12 for their 4K laptop so apparently they got their 4K displays sorted out to ship on time. I don't feel like waiting for potentially another 2 months for the Y50 to come out. Any reason I should not get the Toshiba Satellite P50T-BST2N01?

can someone confirm if the Asus G550JK is indeed a touchscreen?
i'm currently chatting right now with a man exporting the G550JK to my country.
he told me that it is touch enabled. can somebody confirm if there really is a touchscreen option for the G550JK?
