Nope, no touchscreen available. Only FHD matte. Notebooks & Ultrabooks - G550JK XOTIC PC | ASUS G550JK-DS71 - 15.6" ASUS ROG Gaming Laptop

if you want to make money with a laptop with a nice gpu, you might try your luck with mining bitcoins.
still torn between Asus G550JK and Lenovo Y50..
once i got it, i'll try to mine bitcoins.
-
then why is it more expensive than the N550JK? just because of the color?
what do you think is the advantage of G550JK vs the N550JK aside from the aesthetics? -
lol bitcoin doesnt even make u money anymore. Buying a laptop to mine bitcoin is retarded.yoface373 likes this.
-
Hmmm.....but think about it a bit.
The 750 ti is known for it's insane efficiency.
The 860m is a mobile 750ti with greater efficiency
So, we extract all of the 860ms humanly possible from a con job in which we hit lenovo, clevo, and any other brand using maxwell, solder them to 24 lane pcie boards, and get rich in a matter of YEARS.
Who's the tard now. HMMM?yoface373 likes this. -
why not? but yeah. 860m is quite weak for mining of bitcoins considering that it doesn't even have the proper drivers for hardcore mining.
-
heard there are bitcoin mining dedicated GPUs around that are not from nvidia nor amd?
-
GE and GS ya know
-
Or pay more for electricity bills and never pay off the price of the laptop. hmm.
Also, there's a reason why newegg prices of 750ti never rose about SRP. It's simply not profitable for the miners to use it. Now u are talking about a laptop that cost MUCH more than its desktop counterparts and have ram and cpu that mining doesn't even utilize. -
the website you gave usually has pretty accurate info and is considered a reliable source for this category in china, but this one you really have to take it with a grain of salt. lenovo never is that cheap in china(and in fact, it's quite expensive like crappy dell in US) and it's unlikely that it will be this time with its flagship ideapad model. even the author himself stated that "for those who are questioning this price, lemme explain briefly that the above price is the price that resellers pays for, if lenovo has stable supplies, then this will probably the price on taobao (chinese version of ebay cept less reliable) and it will be...(the rest is just useless for us)" so even he himself has some level of doubt in this. PLUS, the biggest problem with the list he gave is that as we have seen in the lenovo y50 manual
http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_y40_50_series_hmm.pdf
there's no configuration with i7-4710HQ and this manual is supposed to be used internationally. I would say this source you give should not be taken seriously -
Sure, virtual buttons are useless and idiotic 'cos they never work. Two real buttons are good but best for everyday use, for real work if there's not a proper mouse, is this:
I've written over a 500 articles and news about video gaming on old MacBook Pro few years ago. Not home, at GamesCom, school, buses and rails. Plus video editing, photo editing for publishing and I've never used mouse in this situations and this touchpad works really great. But I won't buy Apple in a near future because of other reasons.
Sorry for BIG off-topic

this video was posted today...its in Bulgarian but its a nice video of the Y50 and it shows everything even a little bit of gaming

The glass touchpad on the MacBook Pro is on a whole different level from the crappy one on the Lenovo and just about everybody else. Just saying.yoface373 likes this.

Hi everybody,
I'm really considering getting the y50 over XPS 15 I ordered, but I love the touchscreen option - especially if I'm on the go.
My plan was to get the touchscreen version and replace the RAM and HDD for SSD - but I need the warranty. I read somewehere that changing HDD/ram does not void it - but was told yesterday by a rep that it does. Can anybody confirm that this would indeed void my warranty? -
comparing the build quality of macbook with any laptops on the market is just pointless. as much as we can say macbooks are overpriced/stupid/too hot/useless, their build qualities are solid
-
Not build quality as much as the fact that the MacBooks have hands-down the best trackpads on the market at any price point, period.yoface373 likes this.

What thread did you read? I got my Toshiba 4K laptop 2 days after I placed the order on Toshiba site, they ship hyper-fast!
There are couple of other users have already gotten Toshiba 4K laptop as well.
I dont know about the " Quality problems" you mentioned, mine looks absolutely gorgeous. -
Thanks
Btw Does he say anything about the heat???

Actually, no.
Lenovo China has their own version of User Guide and also certain spec details.
Chinese version UG : Lenovo Y40-70 Y40-80 Y50-70 Y50-80 Y50-70 Touch Y50-80 Touch Lenovo Erazer Y40-7.pdf_å è´¹é«éä¸è½½|ç¾åº¦äº ç½ç-å享æ éå¶
English version UG : http://download.lenovo.com/consumer...0-80_y50-70 touch_y50-80 touch_ug_english.pdf
You could see the difference in model list in one of the first few pages. Some China models are labelled as "Erazer", which are those models with 4710HQ processor. -
No you are talking about user guide, what I gave is the maintenance manual which should be the same across all languages and that shows all the models available. But the chinese user guide and standards guide did give Erazers on their list. However, even with that said, it's still hard to imagine lenovo's pricing like this in China considering their past pricings
-
Across all language but not necessary showing all the models available worldwide. It's common for China to have their own tweaked model versions.
-
again, the problem is that china tends to sell weaker models instead of improved models, not to mention that their touchscreen is nerfed already. but still, at this point, it's possible for them have modded models, as lenovo is indeed a chinese company, but the price given, as I have said before, should be taken with a grain of salt
-
Yet that is exactly what I was told - replacing anything in the laptop will void your warranty. But everybody here is replacing - well everything. Anybody else has any experience with this?
-
This glossy plastic lid around the screen is disgusting and the TN panel is not good at all (view angles are good but colors...). I hate TN matrix but what I do. Now I know that I want touch screen model...

Yeah that's sad.
But on the other hand considering its thickness, weight and power it's still the best bang for the buck gaming laptop. -
Yes, you are right. Low budget = a lot of compromises that we have to overcome but still the best choice now.

the policy is you have to contact their tech team to let them do it for you or give you permission to do it yourself which imo is fking stupid because you have to ship everything to them in order for them to do it for you
-
(disgusting glossy plastic screen border)
Yeah, but depends on what the price will be over here in Europe. I'll give them a pass for an ugly screen border if they make me a sweet deal on the price, but if they charge premium price then that kind of thing won't cut it
-
CyberTronics Notebook Consultant
Too bad still no ETA of Y50 to Europe. But if last two previews of the Y50 came from Europe, I suppose it's a matter of 2-3 weeks. Pretty sure Y50's are already here in Europe, stacked in the warehouses.
-
*Sigh Been messaging XoticPc and they still don't have the Lenovo Y50 yet. Guess they're slow on resellers. I hope there's a IPS display option on their site like some of their other laptops.
-
I talked to a warranty rep on the phone this morning. I was quite concerned because I actually got the three year warranty with mine. Basically what I was told was that the warranty would be voided for any part you modify. Example: You replace the HDD and the HDD fails, they can't help. But if it's something unrelated, they will still honor the warranty. Makes sense to me, cause you can't expect them to touch any third-party hardware.
-
That indeed does make sense, I would expect the principal to be the same with other companies though? Like if I buy an ssd and it fails I'm assuming dell, MSI, or gigabyte isn't going to be responsible for that either

That glossy bezel on the Bulgarian video looks hideous. Might just help me decide to instead get the Toshiba 4K laptop.
-
It makes sense to me. Both reps that I talked to told me that any aftermarket voids the warranty. Perhaps they misunderstood me and only meant the new components. I will clarify again with them and come back with results.

wow I didnt expect the screen to be so bad... stunning.

WOW! This might be pre-production model, but I still feel like I dodged a bullet by not ordering one! The author of the post calls this model a "beggar" version - ie the low end. It has i5 4500U, 4gb RAM, 860m, 1080p TN matte screen.
The screen is really bad and the bezels around it reflect the light very poorly. I went through some of the videos on youtube to see if I pick up on some things he mentioned. Lenovo Y40/Y50 Gaming Laptop Hands-on - YouTube This shows the fingerprint magnet thing - you can clearly see that the back of it and the body as a whole is full of fingerprints. The screen is different though. This might mean that only the 1080p TN matte screen is bad. Will still have to see
Other details:
- only one fan?! (though temp seemed to be ok)
- bad touchpad (slippery, bad buttons)
- good keyboard (not sure)
- good sound
- good performance (though not matching the SLI 755m of Y510p)
- not as noisy or hot as Y510p
Lessons learned -> don't go for the entry model or pre-order. Wait for full review. -
Nothing new here, it is just a translated version of the Hungarian review of an early prototype.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
Well, If the screen is so bad in prototype then I guess it won't be much better in the upcoming ones...
Lets just wait for someone who gets his hands on the laptop;-). -
Wait, that is the standard y50 screen and it's worse than the y510p one? Because that y50 screen looks absolutely horrendous
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
I know that the y50 will get more fps at ultra settings on all games than the asus n550jk, but the screen on the asus has such better color/ image quality that I'm wondering if games would still look better at high settings on the asus than ultra settings on the y50. The asus with the 850m is getting 24fps on bf4 on ultra.. And ultra on a glossy IPS does not look the same as ultra on a TN matte. As a casual who doesn't mind playing on high instead of ultra, I'm leaning towards the n550jk. Apparently it's nearly silent under load and has great temps and people are reaching 6hrs just web surfing.
-
Probably would be best to wait for an actual consumer model before dismissing the screen
Both the reviews posted here have been of early pre production models...
Just saying you've waited this long ... reviews are gonna pop up any second
would be a very hasty decision to pull the trigger now

I can definitely say that screen quality and color reproduction plays a BIG role in how graphics appear to you. I used to play L4D2 on the old HD Inspiron N5110 but after I switched to XPS L502x with FHD IPS, although I had to lower settings a tiny bit to get the same fps, it felt like I went from Low graphics to High. Such a paradox lol.
And what a joy it was to watch "Her" in 1080p on XPS! I am impressed by the screen quality! -
I'm torn between the g550jk and the y50 too. The g550jk is a lot more sexy versus the y50. It's like mondrian vs early picasso, the y50 looks thicker virtue of its sharp outline and strong diagnols. The g550jk is curved elegantly, but is thicker irl because of its cd drive. Which one would pull more women at my local star bucks?

I've been playing BF4 on my Y500 which I think also has a TN Panel, and I got to say it isn't bad as it seems then again I haven't seen an IPS panel. I'm also torn between performance and display, though I do know I want a touch screen so sadly, I have to not pick the G550jk which physically looks better than the Y50 and N550Jk.
