Gigabyte p34g is also under 1500 just saying. The price for y50 could've been lower but the main factor that made y50 1000+ is that 860m is on the expensive side. Before y50 we saw nothing w/ 860m under 1250 unless you are talking about clevo. Seriously, amd needs to work their a$$ more on mobile gpus. They are getting completely crushed by nvidia in the mobile market and therefore causing mobile gpu's price to stay high

I agreed with the premise of your statement, but as you noted not the intensity. That said my comment to XxxKing YBxxX was no way refuting your statement, again I agreed with it. Instead I questioned his need to address my statement when it was you who actually responded to his prior statement and brought up the point of GPU relevance regarding laptop purchases.

P34 is 14", no number pad. No sold.

Frankly, if Lenovo (or someone) would offer a model with an 840 or 850 but an IPS screen and mSATA slot, that would be much more of what I'm looking for. I don't need the 860.

Or if the ASUS N550 weren't so thick, I would have already bought that. Seems that none of the manufacturers can check all the boxes that I'm looking for.

No, definitely don't delete your pics. They inspired some great responses, and if you delete them and then others come and read the responses, they won't get a sense for just how bad your pics were.

    Quoting myself, sorry.

I actually made a checklist and put all my wants in order. And I think the Gigabyte P35G v2 checks EVERY SINGLE BOX. Unfortunately, it's about $1700 configured as I want. And I don't think it's available yet.

And if I could swap out the 860m for an 850 or 840 and save a couple hundred bucks, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

XPS is close to that - awesome PPS screen, 750m (between 840m and 850m), mSATA slot, but unfortunately no num pad :)

not happy with the screen, but I'm sure it works for a lot of you though

    tip: don't get spoiled!

deciding between putting my cards on the 4k pile or waiting for a year because 4k version, even if it turns out to have IPS/PLS, will have:
    - a glossy screen (not my preference - but not the biggest of my worries due to possible matte foil solution)
    - a premium for being 4k while most programs won't work with it

    :(

    @bva91

We'll I can tell you FurMark from first hand experience on the new RazerBlade, it never cracked 84c after 15 minutes.
Even with the most demanding games I have yet to see it top 85c, and that's after hours of gaming.

Can anyone post some temps while gaming? And comment on the fan noise when under load/gaming ?
Looking to buy one for someone that's new to gaming laptops but doesn't want to spend a ton of money.
Glad to see more members finally getting there laptops :).....finally!
Matte screen looks decent enough but wondering if the glossy glass panel would be more vibrant and crisp with colors and saturation.

I heard someone posted temps like 10 pages back that nothing went over 70c when gaming. It doesn't get excessively hot at all, just warm but really hot towards the hinges where the vents are.

I just played Ghosts on my Y50 for about 30 mins and temps were very reasonable. I didn't measure them, but it never got hot, just mildly warm. Also, fans were nearly inaudible. I'm sure they were running due to the temp, but I had to focus and put my ear closer to the keyboard to hear anything.

I'm not a huge current-gen gamer, so I don't have any of the newest games to test on. I performed some stress tests to check the temperature and noise level. The ambient temperature was around 74*F (23*C). The laptop was sitting on top of a wooden desk with no external cooling devices used.

    Left4Dead2 at maximum settings:
    GPU: <66*C
    CPU: <74*C
Yes, the 860m overclocks to ~1100Mhz when needed. (I did not overclock the GPU, this was done automatically by the card when under load).

    Temperature/Noise/Speakers: (Click spoiler "show" button)
    CPU only stress test (Prime95):
    CPU: <76*C
    [IMG]

    GPU only stress test (FurMark):
    GPU: <74*C
    [IMG]

Maximum stress test (Both Prime95 + FurMark):
    CPU: <98*C
    GPU: <86*C
Yes, the CPU did throttle when it got near 100*C - I've noted that in the image. Please also keep in mind this was a maximum stress test, mostly to force the fan to spin at 100%. This is the kind of scenario I don't ever see myself running into under normal usage. I'm not certain I'll encounter a game that'll do this to my laptop (if I do, it's time for a new computer frankly). I think the Left4Dead2 test above was more realistic representation of everyday use temperatures. Try running both Prime95 and FurMark on your laptop and see how it handles the heat.

Area of heat (un-scientifically done because I have no proper testing tools to measure temperature):
The palm rest area remained cool throughout the entire test phase. The area under the ASWD keys got a bit toasty, but still usable. The power brick got a little bit warm, but that was it.

When idle the laptop is silent. The fan may be running slowly or not at all, either way I couldn't hear it when idle. When under normal usage (IE Left4Dead2), it became somewhat audible, but only just, and it wasn't at all annoying. When under maximum load the laptop did become noticeable, but was still surprisingly quiet. Previous to the Y50 I owned a MSI GS60 Ghost 007 (Newegg exclusive); I no longer have that laptop due to a defective touchpad. The following is my observation of the two:
    Idle: Y50 [silent] | GS60 [audible]
    Load: Y50 [bit audible] | GS60 [loud]
Heavy Load: Y50 [audible] | GS60 [louder still]
I think it's telling that people are constantly talking about modifying the BIOS to deal with the noise in the GS60 forums. I'm genuinely impressed by the quietness of the Y50. I think it passes the "gaming in the library" test.

The Y50's JBL speakers are excellent. It rivals the JBL speaks on my old Dell L702X laptop, which was known to have high quality [laptop] speakers.

It's just the base model without modifications, I don't plan on doing any overclocking. As you can see from the GPUZ window, the 860m automatically overclocks to 1100Mhz when under load, so no it's not locked.

That's due to Windows 8.1 (and Chrome's) poor DPI adjustment. Right click on the desktop and selecti the options below:
Lenovo sets the default to 125%, which along with Chrome's known issue with DPI adjustment makes it look blurry.

I honestly couldn't tell you. I didn't have enough time with the MSI to do a thorough test, it had a defective touchpad that I wanted to RMA as soon as possible. The MSI was extremely light and every time I picked it up I was blown away by its lack of weight. I think the MSI may have felt a bit more solid in my hands, but the Lenovo does come close. They both share one thing though - the metal case is a dang fingerprint magnet.
