I'm not certain. It may be because the 47W includes 4 cores + the Intel HD4600 on-chip GPU. Since FurMark was busy with 860m, the 4600HD was pretty much off.

    See here: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/what-is-ia-gt-vtt.157737/

Note in my images the "GT" is nearly 0. It seems to support that the HD4600 was off.

OHHHH that's right. crap I forgot that the fact that integrated graphics even exists. the cpu cooling could've been better if they connected the 2nd heat pipe to the cpu. but now I realized why it didn't. if it hooked up a second heat pipe it would put more stress on the GPU because now it has to take the heat from the CPU, which will definitely cause throttling. therefore instead of having the GPU throttle, which basically makes people unable to play anything, it's better to have the CPU throttle which will have less effect

EDIT: btw what with the CPU's max voltage over 1V on your pic? is it possible to have a screenshot of everything after 30 min? your double stress mark one is after 14min. PLSSSSSSSsss THANK YOU I <3 U bro!

This is basically the desktop from my PC also, since Windows 8.1 saves my hotmail.. I figured we could post screens of the programs we have so far and such.. Love to browse through the various desktops of the other users on forums.

Granted I have more programs installed on my desktop, but this will get there.. When it gets more hot, this will probably be my desktop.. Gets very humid here during June/July..

For comparison, forgive the image size..

FWIW folks waiting for 4K panel, I know others have shared the ultra-low confidence info from Lenovo reps on estimated availability dates. My latest chat got: 4K sometime in July (probably).

It wasn't intended to be snarky. You asked how the sound is with headphones plugged in. I don't see how the laptop itself is relevant in that situation. It's simply passing the digital signal to the headphone jack and then what you hear depends on the quality of the headphones.

You would have to go to the techinferno forums and upload your bios to a guy name Svl7. He will release a modded bios for your machine.

It doesn't only depend on the quality of the headphones, my Denon headphones won't sound the same if plugged into an iPhone vs my HTC One M8, or between say possibly this laptop and a Gigabyte P34Gv2. Whatever onboard sound card can definitely influence the quality.

The best DAC in the world would still sound like crap with $5 buds plugged in. So the point stands. Dumb question got a dumb answer, so move along.

Send the reviewer your Denon cans and he can tell you what the sound is like.

Or maybe lookup, or ask him, to tell you the part number of the DAC.

You guys are being unnecessarily mean.

You may not have headphones that are sensitive enough to hear the noise floor of cheap onboard DACs, but some of us do. If you didn't have anything to add to this conversation besides your unhelpful comments, why bother saying anything at all. There is absolutely a difference between a clean source of signal and a typical noisy onboard sound card. If you can't appreciate these things, then don't say anything.

Nope :( shipment got delayed even further. I'm getting conflicting information. Reps say I'll get it on the 24th, online says the 8th of July. I think the 4710s all got delayed for some reason - possibly due to a delay in getting the CPU itself perhaps?

Can you describe what is wrong with it? According to Timothyz, seems like the 7260ac is not whitelisted in the BIOS. This is concerning 'cause that was one of the things I was planning to swap when I got mine in - whenever that is...

I'm pretty satisfied with the pics and vids provided (thanks again to those who put them up) to say that it looks like I'm going to hop on the Y50 train after all is said and done. Only thing left for me decide is whether or not to torture myself further and wait even longer for the 4K details to roll out... If the price isn't significantly higher, it might be worth the wait for that IPS/PLS panel that seems to be a possibility.

While I'm getting an itchy trigger finger to jump in now, I'd be kicking myself if the 4K drops in a month with a reasonable price and that nice panel..

Anyone here care to venture a quasi-educated guess on what they might charge? Would the Toshiba Satellite P55t 4K serve as a good comparison ($1599 USD)?

There was a hissing noise through the combo jack (headphone + mic combo jack) whenever the volume was above 0%. This was resolved by uninstalling the pre-installed Realtek drivers and just using the generic drivers that comes with Windows 8. I use cheap earbuds, so it's hard for me to tell quality from average. All I can say is it sounds just like any other laptop I've plugged my earbuds into. Hope that helps.

Personally I didn't care for 4K due to scaling issues. Someone already commented about it with Chrome. That issue will only get exaggerate with 4K. In addition, I'm not certain 860m can handle 4K gaming, so all of your games will be scaled down anyway. Another is the fact that the Y50 doesn't come with DisplayPort, so I'm unsure how you can do 4K on an external monitor. Does HDMI support 4K at 60hz? If you're willing to put up with being an early adopter of 4K and dealing with software playing catchup with the higher DPI, go for it.

See AnandTech | Scaling Windows - The DPI Arms Race.

I spoke to Lenovo rep before and asked about whether or not the HDMI in the lenovo Y50 can output 4k and they said Yes...whether they are telling the truth or not we just have to wait on someone who has a 4k monitor and test it out.

Can you make a test of RGB color space?

I was looking forward to get this laptop for my studies (architecture) but after read that y50 has cover arround 50% , I dont remenber exactly but it was poor %. i don't mind the view angles but i would like a "decent" colour. I'm considering the gs60 again. Change a bit of gpu and temperatures for screen and weigth.

    Sorry for my english!

HDMI 1.4 only supports 4k up to 30Hz, which is what the y50 has. HDMI 2.0, however, will support 60Hz but it is yet to come out.
btw pulse do you have a screenshot of the double stress mark after 30 minutes?

Thank you, that's what I figured. I knew going in the Y50 wouldn't have DisplayPort, but it's still a disappointment.

I stopped the stress test after the image was taken. I'm not keen on letting the CPU hit the thermal threshold for more than necessary. I'd like to keep my less than 48 hours old laptop in working condition!. I too am curious about the heat situation - lets see what other people say about it when they receive their machines and run current gen games with it.

Yeah I don't mind scaling down, in fact the real reason for me holding out for it would be for the possible IPS/PLS panel and not so much the 4K. I figure having the 4K capabilities would become a nice bonus over time once software does catchup as you say. I plan on getting as many years out of this thing as possible, so if the price is right, it can't hurt to have that 4K future proofing for the long haul even if the gpu can't handle it for gaming.

No one has done an actual test of the gamut on the y50 yet; there was some comments about comparing to other screens based on model number, but you're more likely to get an accurate number spread (short of someone actually testing it) by looking at the numbers for the y510p. Those were 64% NTSC, 68% adobeRGB, 91% sRGB. That's actually not bad for a TN panel (assuming the y50 is similar), so if you need a significant increase in color gamut, you may be forced to find something with an IPS panel.

Omg you have both!!!!!!! You are like my god right now. Can you compare the displays?

Which one should be better for 3d max, revit, adobe etc? We dont have price of y50 in spain but i guess that y50 (ssd+16gb) will be arround 1400€... Similar to gs60. We are lucky, 1$-1€ as usual.

    Thanks for info and pics!

Didn't know asking how the sound quality of a laptop counts as a dumb question. I guess all reviews should just disregard sound quality coming from the headphone jack. Maybe you're too dumb to understand that my simple question to someone who is REVIEWING the laptop implied that there are differences between DACs and yes, $5 buds will still sound like crap, but they won't sound exactly the same on every laptop. It has nothing to do with my Denon cans. So actually the point doesn't stand. Please don't post useless and condescending responses when the person I was talking to already specified he wasn't being cheeky anyway.

And lastly, all of us can look up every component of all laptops that are yet to be released. Maybe instead of having user reviews we can all just do that then from now on so we don't have to bother you with our inquisitions?

My Y50 is on the way and I'm hopefully done with this thread. /peace

I understand. My daily usage pattern didn't make it a priority, but an IPS screen would be nice for sure. Hope it works out for you.

I think I've done enough to inform this forum about the base model Y50. If you all will excuse me, I'm going to return to observer mode and wait for more information to come in from other Y50 owners.

So why wouldn't it work for Timothyz? Honestly, this is my first experience with closed hardware systems. Maybe it is because I'm much more experienced with building desktops, but this is sort of ridiculous. I get it - companies want to limit your ability to break out of a mold and stick with partner company parts, but how is this accepted by the consumer community???

I'll keep waiting... and watching. Thanks Brian.
