i would be interested to know this as well if its at all possible...
-
if what i have read is true at $20=1000 Views, that is an instant $2,0000 dollars for you.
if if were you and it turned out to be true, i will immediately sell my Y50 or return it for refund if possible and buy an Aorus X7 with 2(512gb SSD) + (1Tb HDD) and Dual 860M with a Better Overall Cooling, Screen Quality, and one of the best in terms of Build Quality.
okay, seems like i'm quite promoting but that's just what i really want. ain't from that company. -
Unfortunately, I've been watching the chaos and now contributing my thoughts as a result. My question (that I obviously didn't pose very well) wasn't about the ridiculous Y50 delays specifically. My question is about previous purchases (i.e. y510, etc). What has your guys' experiences been with previous Lenovo direct purchases? Is it safe to say this is an aberration or is it par for the course?
I don't have any experience with Lenovo direct, but I own a Lenovo laptop purchased through Amazon. This would be only my second owned Lenovo. -
None of those estimates mean much. It typically takes a month or more to get your laptop, especially the ones which are in demand. The reps typically tell you a closer shipping date to make you feel a little better, but it typically takes longer.
-
a decent quality with that camera you're using. that could have made you a few hundred bucks or even more if you bothered to post an unboxing video and review on youtube. i myself would even watch it more than thrice just to see those pictures and to review some things that bother me.
-
Ah, dang. For some reason, the photos posted under the spoilers don't show. I'm assuming by the positive buzz that I should go for it anyway. Still worried that I'm making a mistake about getting a Geforce card for photography editing, but this is the best machine I've found in my price range.
-
Go back to page 388-395, there are more pics.
-
I went through all the posts, I'm saying that when I click the spoiler box, empty boxes come up, but no photos. My computer just won't load them, I guess.
-
Just did some BF4 recording. Vid should be up soon.
Preset Medium settings is the way to go (w/ vysnc off). Consistently getting 65 FPS.
With the settings on high it hovers from 45-60. -
Meh I'd probably take the 4k y50 at 1800 over the gs60 at 2000. Correct me if I'm wrong, but downscaling from 3k means your going to have pixel stretching in order to play at 1080p because its not a straight conversion. At 4k to 1080p though, its simply a matter of making everything 1/4 as large. If the y50 4k also has 7260 at 1800, I would definitely take it. This is all providing that the 4k screen is indeed a good quality IPS or pls screen. If its not then that would be a dealbreaker

I think it's a bandwidth cap. Happened to me too. Try again later and they should come up. You can also try cleaning out your browser cache.

I think that's correct. However, you could probably downscale to 1600x900 and have perfect scaling. Would be easier for the gpu as well. -

If I remember correctly, photo editing is more heavy on the CPU than the GPU. If you're doing video editing, then the live rendering is super heavy on the GPU.H01D3N likes this. -
Meh I wouldn't want to go down to 1600x900 considering my Xbox has been playing at 1080p for years

Bro, that's probably 720p or 900p scaled up to 1080p.hailgod likes this. -
Actually some Xbox games do run at 1080p native lol but yeah most are scaled. I guess I would want the true HD experience when I actually get a gaming laptop then and not stay at 900p

I guess it really depends on the game. A game like Half-Life Source or Team Fortress 2 would run with no problem at 1920x1080. And then with BF4 or Crysis 3, you need to reduce some settings for smooth gameplay.
If you really want to game, build a desktop(unless you've got money to blow on a super op laptop) -
I don't quite understand all the fancy language that goes with everything... But does this means I will be okay with this or should I look elsewhere? GPU is graphics, yeah? Heh.

You should be alright.
CPU- Intel i7 4700mq/4710.
GPU(graphics)- GTX 860M
What you really need to pay attention is to accurate color reproduction of the TN panel. -

One thing I'm having trouble doing is installing upgraded nvidia drivers.
The laptop came with 332.xx and although the newer 337.88 are compatible with my GPU it says "the driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." -
That's actually running really well. Temps seem fine, what happens if you turn 4 x AA? Anything above that is overkill.
I see that you learned the art of horizontal recording

Yeah that's why I need a laptop too. My desktop is pretty small for a desktop, but still ain't portable enough. -
Can you install the drivers via Lenovo's website? I know that on their site there are driver updates listed, not sure if they are the ones you want though.

How is the wireless network card? It seems that a couple of owners are complaining about it, but don't explain why they don't like it.
-
Weird, on my Y500 GT650m SLI, I get like Straight 60 on Ultra.
-
True. I keep hanging around here seeing if someone posts the sRGB. I believe the Y510 had ~91%? I do have a external monitor I use for editing, but I would love a mostly-accurate screen for on-the-fly

He was playing multiplayer ( at least I think so ), so that could be the reason why the fps are a bit lower?

Yeah, could someone see if FRAPS is buggy or works or not? Also, I think that it was good that he recorded himself playing while not using a screen capture program. It's kinda annoying when the fps drops because of FRAPS or anything like that; you don't know what the real performance is.
UPDATE
Just noticed this on Tom'sHardware. Has anyone else had this problem with their Y50?
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2163533/lenovo-y50-headphone-jack-ton-static.html -
How is the screen on this thing? I have a Razer Blade 14 from last year and the screen really is atrocious - I'd love to upgrade this year. I know they're both TN panels, but so is the screen on my 2012 Macbook Air and that screen is really nice.
-
Seriously, where did you get that information?
Is there a way that those who already have their Y50s to be able to confirm the model of screen they have? -
I can't speak for the y50 itself, but I've had quite a few Lenovo's now. Out of the box performance has always been pretty terrible for wi-fi. I'm not entirely sure what they do, but the installed Intel/Lenovo wireless software and drivers seem to be notoriously problematic. Just uninstalling the software/drivers doesn't seem to do it. Reinstalling the OS (I guess you can refresh with Win8 I think) has totally fixed it every time. Going to barebones windows and then getting manufacture drivers seems to work great, and I've never had a problem with performance afterwards.bitstr3am likes this.

heibk201 seems to find all the information that no one else can, it's all legit too. Maybe from part numbers?

Wait on buying the new card. Why? Because this card in the y50 HMM:
WirelessLan_Intel, Intel 7260 2x2AC+BT PCIE M.2 WLAN V2 20200552, is the one you need to buy. Note the highlighted FRU number. I've only seen one for sale at a Swiss site. Any other stock card, will deliver you the "unauthorized card" upon boot.
Also, check out the installed 3160, before you get bent out of shape. Speed is NOT the only consideration. If the 3160 suits your need, stick with it. If you only get a 4.38 Mbps download through your ISP, you could be using the hard wired ethernet at 1 GBs, and still wait a long time to download anything. IMHO Range, and a reliable connection, should be the 2 most important factors in a wireless network.
My installed Intel Wireless-N 1000 performed very well in the 2.4 GHz band. Using the Proset program, I get 144 Mbps connection to my router, throughout my entire 3 story house. Sure, the further away I am from the router, the less signal I receive. However, the connection has never dropped, nor has the "no connection to the internet" ever been displayed. But more important, I get >34 Mbps download, and >5 Mbps upload speeds from my ISP, where ever I'm sitting in my abode. I should add that in my wireless environment (neighborhood), there is >25 other users employing the 2.4 GHz spectrum.
I'm not a fan of installing some cracked BIOS in my machine, but if you really need a mega billion Mbps down/up load speed, be my guest. Just be sure to pay your ISP for the connection to actually use those speeds, without throttling your throughput. Of course, if you have your own NAS, or cloud, never mind. Those users truly employ a super fast connection for their LAN.
Sometimes, it doesn't make any sense, or to risk modding the BIOS, to get a speed that you really can't use in a "meaningful" way.
P.S Make sure you have a new router, that can use the "AC" capability of the wireless card.

Wait, so the 7260 will work but only one that had that specific part number?

You can only know the answer after you watch a true high bitrate 4K video (not the ones on youtube) on a real 4K IPS LED 15.6inch laptop...
That, and some people will want to record 4K video in the future. Some of the new smartphones will have 4K video recording ability, and
only a true 4K screen can show the beauty of the 4K video... -
This thread got to 4k before lenovo did.
LanceAvion, liteon6x, BlazeHN and 5 others like this. -
Wait. I'm confused. Can't I just get the FRU you mentioned and everything will be peachy? I mean...why not, right? If it's only $30-50 and substantially improves my WiFi experience. Where/When do you think the 3160 would be inadequate (not suiting needs)? Is there no difference between range / reliability between the two models?
Thanks for all the info. -
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH, never thought of that. Holy crap, "standardized" smart phone displays/cameras evolve way faster than the rest of this stuff, and I could easily envision a short-term future, 1-2 years from now, where most smartphones have 4k displays and video recording. Hmm....
-
No static for me.. However, my headphone jack was really hard to break in the first time I stuck anything in... yeah you heard that right.
-
Here's the issue with the Intel 3160AC. On Wireless N 2.4 GHz 20 MHz channel (i.e. the most common network protocol used by people), the 3160AC can only do 72.2 Mbps since it only has 1 spatial stream. That's barely faster than Wireless-G at 54 Mbps. Centrino Wireless-N 1000, 2200, 2230, 6205, 6235, 7260 can do 144 Mbps due to 2 spatial streams. Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 can do 216.7 Mbps. On 5 GHz N 40 MHz width, Centrino 6205, 6235 and 7260 can do 300 Mbps while 3160 can only get 150 Mbps. Centrino 6300 gets 450 Mbps. On AC, 7260 gets 866.7 while 3160 can only do 433.3 Mbps.
Conclusion: to get decent speed with 3160AC, your only option is to connect to AC routers while Centrino and 7260 don't need wireless-ac to get great speeds.Banender likes this. -
Found another website where some guy had this problem. He says that the Y50 headphone jack has horrible static whenever he plugs headphones in. He also says that it definitely is not the headphones. Can someone confirm that the headphone jack works properly? I haven't received mine yet, and most of my work is in FL Studio, Ableton, VDJ, etc.
-
Damn, that blows. Hope mine doesn't have that issue....
-
If you're doing that kind of work, isn't it more worth your time to pick up an external DAC/Amp to ensure you are actually getting high sound quality? An integrated headphone jack can be plagued with all sorts of issues, static aside. Something like a Schiit Modi/Magni stack is only $200 and you'll have way better SQ. You could even go smaller and get a portable DAC/Amp combo (nuforce or similar) that would still be considerably better and more convenient.

Great, thanks for the response. It must have just been that one guy.
