to those who are using windows 8.1, how was the patch for DPI scaling? is it still bad?
-
I've been following this thread for awhile, (all the way back in March), but just recently decided to create an account.
Like everyone else, I'm waiting on the 4k models - mainly for the IPS screen. I prefer my screens Glossy to Matte, so that's one plus for me and another is that it's almost certainly going to be a Touch display - which I wouldn't shelling out a little extra to have. -
Did they send you an email with the tracking number the day it was shipped or did it take a day or two before the email came?
-
Anyone who recieved y50 with 4gb nvidia 860m, can you please confirm if it is keplar or maxwell , I know lenovo has mentioned maxwell but lately they have mentioned so many things, that might not be true.. like that 880m model.. and they had this model with 4710 + optical drive +4gb nvidia 860m + 8gb for $1250... now they have messed it up.... so if anyone could just confirm it.... also of anyone can post the 3d vantage score or something, that would be helpful....
-
ya know, I don't like repeating myself over and over, so I'll make this clear. I already posted pics proving it's maxwell, so if you ever bothered to read the last 100 pages you would not be asking this. please guys, just flip through some pages and you'll find out. the same questions have been asked over and over againBanender likes this.
-
I went throughout the thread, but I just want a confirmation from someone who has got the model... leave it ... anyways wont matter 2gb , 4gb... all I want to know is the 3d vantage score... if anyone is kind enough to perform the tests please....
-
What about the processor speed ?
-
Hi everyone, been watching this thread since basically day one and I'm really considering buying a Y50. I want to buy it next Friday if my paycheck is big enough *fingers crossed* but if not I'll definitely be buying one before the end of June. Just wanted to know, will there be any laptops in the near future like July that I should maybe wait and look out for? This laptop is solely for gaming so I'll be content with a TN FHD screen etc. I just want the best gpu and cpu combo I can get for under $1200 all while looking "professional". Anything coming soon you guys think MIGHT meet that criteria?
-
I'm not saying youre wrong, but until I see see solid physical evidence that it is IPS I'll be skeptical, especially since the reps seem to swear to god that they are TN ( Yes I know reps are clueless as can be, but it still puts doubt in my mind).
I was merely responding to a comment that seemed to infer that even IF the y50 had a TN screen and cost 1800 for 4k that it will be a good deal, which in my opinion it will most definitely not be...

You're not making yourself look any better. Someone on this thread already did confirm it - with screenshot to prove it. Try reading the thread.
-
sure you can be skeptical, but I just don't see your point of stress that 4k can likely be TN even when we can confirm from the model number that it's PLS.
1. that $1800 was a flash, that's more of an uncertainty than what panel 4k is. I would rather talk more that than TN/PLS
2. from what I analyzed before, chances are that 4k will be around $1500~1600 base model
3. let's be real here, who would buy y50 4k if it costs $1800? the answer is pretty much no one. that price is nowhere competitive -

Why everyone's shipping date was advanced but not mine?
-
They sent the email when it was shipped. I think they gave us the tracking number after the purchase was confirmed ( I'm a graduating high school senior and this is my parents' gift to me, I don't have all of the shipping info they do).
-
THIS is ridiculous! You know, for all the effort you put forth to shoot people down and tell how much you don't like repeating yourself, you could just link to the post if you know where it is instead of telling someone to go through 100 pages to look up unclear and murky answers. If you don't want to repeat yourself, no one is forcing you to post. If what you say is true, prove it or else keep quiet.
-
Dude it's maxwell lol. Heibk gave ample evidence. He's not required to do jack, it's not like he's a librarian.fantasticzig likes this.

And besides, 100 pages is a lot to go through too. There is a GPU-Z screenshot in there somewhere that shows that it is Maxwell.

Honestly, I don't care whether it's Maxwell or Kepler, Tn or IPS. You're absolutely right- he's not required to do jack; yet he makes sure to let whoever passes through this forum know that he said something 100 pages back. If he was really interested in helping, couldn't he just link to the post.
While I don't personally doubt that it's Maxwell, I don't recall seeing any definitive proof (ie, someone who actually received a 4gb vram model display pictures).fmmsf likes this. -
Or anybody could search the thread and do a little research. Else, this issue will come up again and again.
Also, it was proven. Again, do a search, because that is what the function is for.fantasticzig likes this. -

here's something you are not getting: why are you here if you don't care?
-
For anyone who is curious about the 4gb being Maxwell or Kepler, you can refer to heibk's post here.
That is a HK model. It points to the 4gb being Maxwell. If someone who has received theirs can confirm though, a lot of people would appreciate it. -
Why are you here if you don't actually want to help people?hailgod likes this.
-
1. when is this thread ever about helping people?
2. I can choose to help or not, it's not my problem that people are not reading through the posts and asking either stupid questions or questions that are answered already. I can call on them all I want as long as it's reasonable.
3.the point of making others reading through the past hundreds of pages is so that they will know what's been answered/known already, therefore won't ask any repetitive questions again. -

in your vid you said wd black2 will fit in but I don't think it will. that slot looks like it's exclusive for 7mm and the dual drive is 9.5mm thickLast edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

Exactly that's what I was asking.... I have already seen pretty much every 'screenshot' saying it is a maxwell one... all I want to hear is from the people who are actly using the machine... I clearly mentioned anyone owning the machine please CONFIRM ....

Lenovo seems to be splitting the y50 into two products: touch and non-touch.
Lenovo Y Series | Premium Multimedia Laptops | Lenovo (US)
Lenovo Y50 Touch Laptop | 15.6" High-Performance Gaming Notebook PC | Lenovo (US) -
I think if we could eliminate repetition in this thread, we'd be able to get rid of about half the posts. People, please be considerate of other people's time when posting to this thread. Do a quick search to see if your question or comment has already been answered/mentioned, so you don't waste people's time asking them to read or respond to stuff that is repetitious.

In your video, you just glossed over the most important part (IMO) of the SSD installation, and that's installing Windows 8.1 onto the SSD. Can you let us know how you did that and provide any tips you learned during the process?Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

46Wh 8 Cell Lenovo Y50 Battery Has anyone seen this? Would like to know if this is legitimate or not.
-
The default one is 54 Whr, do you want to downgrade??
No. Of cells is not important, only the wattage counts

Oh, I did not know that. Thought the no. of cells had an effect on battery performance.

I tend to agree. But when you have a thread nearly 500 pages long (more than 400 before anyone actually received one), it's partly inevitable. Especially when people are conflating issues and misrepresenting questions with snarky answers. I'm bothered a lot more by the snark than I am by the repeated questions. I've followed this thread from very early on and seen a lot of repetition. It's partly inevitable. Especially since we're in the early days of genuine firsthand user confirmation as opposed to "what I read in a blog in another language somewhere." It really can't be helped. But snark can be. And I apologize in advance if any of this comes across as snark. It's really not my intent to put anyone down or insult anyone's intelligence.s0ysauce45, BlazeHN, hailgod and 4 others like this.

Slightly less crisp graphics at 1080??
I am not sure this is true... As the 4k resolution is a multiple of 1080, you get exactly 4 pixels to represent 1, so I don't see how this can be "slightly less crisp"? It should be more fluid, no?
That's because there are no ips matte screens out there unless you go for GS60 (if i''m not mistaken) which has other issues.
The only way around this is to settle down for a glossy screen - a good glossy screen with decent brightness tends to eliminate glares really and you get the bonus of having a gorgeous screen for when you are using it in a darker environment (no lights).
If you settle down for a glossy screen you have the following laptop choices that meet your criteria:
- The new ASUS GX500, NX500 though these won't have a blu-ray reader
- ASUS G551, N551 though these are thicker than 1" which points to the fact that you are contradicting yourself (you can't have less than 1" thick+blu-ray drive)
- ASUS G550JK or N550JK
and at this point I got lazy listing the laptops but you get the point:
It's all about compromises and you seem like you are going to need a lot of them considering your list is so big (23!) -
Y50 is definetly the most anticipated notebook of the year.. I dont think any other notebook was as much waited for as this beauty.... hopes up that it doesnt dissapoint us....
-
My comment was mostly directed at the post directly above mine.
I realize I'm not going to find all those features in a single laptop. That's why they're listed in order of my preference. So, for example, finding a laptop that's thinner than 1" is more important to me than having an internal Blu-ray reader. And it's why IPS is listed ahead of matte, meaning if I have to compromise on one or the other, IPS wins. And really, other than that contradiction, there isn't any technical reason I shouldn't be able to find a laptop that includes the first 15 features. Yet it seems laptop manufacturers don't want to put all those features together in the same laptop, and that's kind of puzzling to me. -
Well the main reason you cant find such a laptop is like i said the fact that laptop manufacturers probably created matte ips screens and realised that the matte finish ruins the purpose of the nice ips screen (i personally didnt share this opinion until now but from a cost-perspective i understood their choice of simplification).
Anyway, i bet if u see one of these new ips screens on a glossy display in person u will probably realise that it does not have to be matte because of the high screen brightness which eliminates glares to the point of looking better than a washed out matte display
All i wanted was a matte ips laptop too because i don't do photo editing but i think there must be a reason nobody is making them and only way to find out is to start seeing the laptops in the stores personally where you get to see if a matte finish is really necessary with the new quality screens coming up -

No you can charge them with fraud. Maybe they are intentionally doing it to deceive the buyer. You cant know that. Its not honourful but life isnt honourful anyway

Yes you can charge them with fraud, but you'll lose and waste your money.
You don't charge someone or a company because "maybe" they are intentionally doing it. And I don't think there's anyone that would agree that it's likely intentional versus a typo.

Klick is right. It's a very complicated process. Intent intent intent... and giant corporation almost always get their way!

Woo just ordered the non-touch SSD version from Klick. They're a bit under the Lenovo discount at $1324. Sounds like they've got plenty but you need to message or email them directly for the discount.

Is it worth updating the wireless card? I have been playing with my new Y50 and was getting some connectivity issues. I'm betting it's because of my 8 year old modem, so I'm replacing that now. Just wondering what the consensus was because I stopped checking the threads about 70 pages ago when my computer arrived. Tried digging through the threads but was getting bogged down. Thanks!
Edit: grammar -
Well if u adjust ur wireless connectivity to 5ghz and keep the 1x1 wifi card u will have decent speeds like theoretical 400ish mbps which is fast enough. Getting the 2x2 card will give u ability to switch to 2.4 ghz freq but also u will have 800ish theoretical mbps. Question is how fast do you want to download as the 400 mbps is fast enough for anything and everything else and even dowbloading to be honest (for reference with that u can download 720p game of thrones episode in less than half an hour)
Dont want to scare u but lenovos laptops are also known for wifi connectivity issues which has nothing to do with the wifi cards themselves. -
Well I did a speed test and was getting around 3 Mbps for speed, so anything is better. I got a new wireless router and modem for $80 and will see if they help. Both highly rated on Amazon!

Link please?
And tell us how it goes once u get it
