I ordered mine on the 4th, it shipped on the 10th, and it just cleared customs about twenty-five minutes ago. Should be here by tomorrow, unless there is a sudden bout of inclement whether.

Which model did you order that is taking a lot longer? I'm eying the 209945U with the 1920x1080 res and 500 GB 7200rpm drive...

 

I ordered mine on the 2nd of July. It shipped Tuesday and the expected delivery from UPS is Friday. It's a 209945U.

 

I love how a ton of us will be receiving it tomorrow. We should all plan a time to jump up and scream in joy and see if we can hear each other.

 

i ordered the canadian version of what you guys ordered. for canada, instead of 209945U, its 20993AU. hm shipping dates should still be teh same though shouldnt it?

 

My tracking now shows import scan at noon, and on time delivery by the end of the day tomorrow. If it does show up then, you might actually hear me. And this will forever reverse the curse of Friday the 13th...

Yeah, check HUKD every day... Already knew about the previous 10% code before it was posted on there. That one expired a few days in to July.

Was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a new one.

 

Just picked up my Y580 from Best Buy (I know, I know hate all you want but it came pretty fast and I had good service from there. Best Buy isn't COMPLETELY.) and loving it so far. I noticed when installing Diablo 3 the Blu-Ray player makes A TON of noise around 50-70 dB. That's kind of a killer for me but not really. Haven't had a chance to play any games yet as I'm configuring all the settings/anti-virus.

I have one main question. I'm currently updating updating the nVidia graphics driver to the latest beta version. However how do I manually switch the graphics to GTX 660M in order to achieve a higher Windows Experience Index Score?

 

I just ordered it a few hours ago and the rep told me it could ship out as soon as the 16th, Monday and then arrive by the end of the week next week.

Here's to hoping it comes quickly!

 

i was told by a rep that mine would ship on 15th although my account on the website says 19th. and my purchase date was July 5th lol

 

Figures they wouldn't really know what is actually going on in China where they are building these things...

 

Hopefully you guys wont get a lemon like I did, lenovo support is horrendous! Next time I will definitely be buying from a reseller lol.

Looks like on time. Should be playing with this baby tomorrow at this particular moment. I have never done any youtube videos before but this time I am planning to do some videos about unboxing, included softwares and my own thoughts about the laptop. I got decent 1080p sony camcorder so that should prove handy in making some videos.

 

I hope that the lack of updates since noon does not mean that tomorrow morning they will decide the order is delayed haha. It just seems impractical to expect a package to leave Kentucky and get to New Jersey by 6ish tomorrow unless they are driving all night haha. Perhaps it is on the move and just has not been updated. Or maybe it will be flown? Oh well I guess we will see. At school I work in the mailroom and out of all the carriers I've seen handle packages, UPS definitely seems to be the most reliable and prompt, though that might just be in central PA!

I am trying not to get my hopes too high but having this weekend to play with this thing would be really fantastic

Last update in my tracking is 12:30 pm Thursday. It also says on time. I don't know but 99 % of the time UPS does it's job on time. Anyway we will know tomorrow.

 

What was wrong with it? Was it DOA? Yeah, I spoke to a lenovo tech (obviously a call center in India) regarding why my Y580 had two USB 3.0 ports rather the the customary three. A simple question really. He could have kept the conversation short by stating that their earlier manuf'd Y580s had two and the newer orders have three and that I must have picked up the former at Fry's. Instead, he tries to upsell Lenovo's extended warranty to me and tells me that the lower-priced extensions on the website are false and the price will increase soon. I didn't buy his BS and promptly hung up. And look, almost three weeks after, the price on the extended warranty options on Lenovo's site are the same.

 

Uh oh now now it says the shipment cleared customs and is in transit for delivery but there is no expected arrival date...

 

Yea it's not looking too good for a Friday delivery...

 

Ouch, all these delivery delays are alarming to read. I'm hoping that Amazon will have them in stock soon. I see that they have them in stock from resellers now, but I'd rather buy directly from Amazon with the two day prime shipping...

 

^^^^ This guy knows what I'm talking about, yup my laptop was DOA the screen is defective, works with an external monitor but I have had it sitting in its box. It has been a pain in the , I am having the hardest time getting them to send me a shipping label so I can send this hunk of junk back. They sure love to give you the run around, If I don't get a shipping label tomorrow I will be very angry!! I waited long enough to get the laptop now they are making me wait to send it back smh

Mine lost the ETA for a while like others, now it's returned to the original estimate of end of the day, 7/13. But I live in NC, and that has to help.

Hey guys! Did someone install an SSD on it, without letting go of the onekeyrecovery and theater buttons? Any other issues like that? I'm thinking about buying one SSD, my y580 arrived this wednesday from bestbuy, and it's awessome!

Graphic card looks weaker in Y580 but CPU will be better so it's really hard to say - it depends solely on game itself. Your desktop HDD is much better in terms of speed.

 

One-key recovery might work if you use your recovery media to setup the SSD to factory conditions (i.e. create and fill the requisite partitions). As for myself, I elected to do a clean install on my SSD and installed the Y580 drivers in the order according to this Y570 guide (post #2). Afterwards, I made an image backup of the clean install. So far, the one-key recovery does not work (understandably so b/c I elected not to reinstall the software), but the onekey theater and volume/mute buttons work along with the function keys, etc.

 

Uhoo, mine just arrived where I live. I going to get it today. Weeee I so happy. I post benchmark stuff and temperatures.

Bit late in saying this but my Y580 eventually arrived Very happy with it so far.
Won't bother putting in detailed benchmarks ect since that has been covered quite well here already .

 

GTX 285 ~2073 3D Mark
GT660M ~2543 3D Mark

looks like the 660 is more powerful.

 

Mine made it all the way to Newark, NJ which is about 50 minutes from my house, but is not out for delivery yet. Expected delivery date is still today though so I'm pretty hopeful!

 

Now the wait will feel so much longer compare to a week ago....

 

I didn't had exact comparison so I looked at notebookcheck.net to see for some desktop equivalent of 660M (GTX 550Ti) and then I've looked at this.
I don't trust 3D Mark because it doesn't show real performance and drivers are optimized to work better in this app.

 

Perhaps Lenovo sent you the wrong tracking number? I hope if that's the case then there actually is a y580 on its way to Cali for you, you just can't tell haha.

Just got the Y580. This is my 2nd laptop. First from a non-Dell manufacturer. What are some Optimizations I should do first?

 

Okay I went through every single page without finding any fps numbers on games. What have you guys gotten (please be detailed)? Also, I haggled with Lenovo before buying my y580 and they threw in a free wireless mouse (retail $20), so try and squeeze some extra bucks out of it if you can.

sidenote: This entire thread consists mostly of HDD/SSD, Drivers, Screens, and heat posts. I want to see some gaming performance, PLEASE! Thank you very much.

 

There are some benchmark for the graphic card. This thread isn't just about gaming performance. It also focus on the build and quality of the laptop as well, since this thread is more tended for Y580 owners. So yeah, this thread should be full of comments about the complication that people had about the Y580 such as the heat problem, graphic issue and whether people had found a solution to that...

Gaming performance is great. So far I've only installed Starcraft II and Civ V, both of which run excellently. SC2 runs consistently at 50+fps at ultra settings (most of the time 60+fps). Civ V also runs great (not sure about the fps , but very smooth).
