How many days did you wait until it was actually shipped from their manufacturing?
-
July 10th ordered, July 19th shipped, July 25th estimated delivery date
-
I got my date wrong earlier. I ordered it late july 6th on a friday. It was released to manufacturing on the next tuesday july 10th. Then it was shipped friday july 13th. It arrived july 18th wednesday. So between ordering and before shipping it was 7 days. It probably would have been less had I not ordered on a friday night. Then shipping took 5 days. Total is 12 days for me.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the y580 that Costco has on their website. Model 209942U / Y580.
They have it for sale at $999 + $30 SH
It's got:
3rd Generation Intel® Core i7-3610QM Processor
8GB 1600MHz DDR3
Drives:
750GB (5400 RPM) SATA Hard Drive + 64GB SSD
DVD Drive
Graphics & Video:
15.6" Full HD Display (1920x1080)
16:9 Widescreen Aspect Ratio
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660M 2GB graphics
I dont watch movies on my laptop so the lack of blueray doesnt bother me. I love the costco return policy if something goes wrong.
Is this a good deal? -
If i didnt have one already I would pull the trigger on that. Also your wait would probably be a lot less than most peoples here.

Ordered mine on 7 July and it shipped 18 July. Should be here by the 25th, model 209945U. Does anyone have a list of all the bloatware I can uninstall as soon as I get it? I'm always iffy on if I should uninstall some programs or not.

What is the maximum amount of memory that you can put in the Y580? The spec sheet on Lenovo's site says up to 8GB, but I think that is all they will come preconfigured with? Has anyone tried putting in more that 8GB and does it work?

I backed up the Partition driver files. Is there a way to remove the partition now?
Is there a way to make CDs for a fresh install? The box doesn't have any windows 7 cds -
Where do I find the windows 7 ISo?
What would happen if I deleted the partition with the drivers?
I dragged them onto a USB just in case. -
I'm not that knowledgeable on clean installs and whatnot, so I don't know about the partitions. There are links on that page I posted earlier that, when clicked, download the ISO onto your computer. Just click the version of Windows 7 you have and burn the downloaded ISO to a disk. This guide may also be of some help: How To Clean Install Windows 7 (Part 1 of 3)

Bought 7/11, shipped 7/18 (my time zone... in China it was early morning 7/19), estimated arrival 7/25.

Hi guys just about to order a Lenovo Y580 and was wondering if anybody knew the answers to any of these questions which are holding me back:
1) Does the Windows 7 OS come pre installed on the HDD? If so, how can i instead put it on the 64GB SSD it comes with to speed up boot times?
2) What is the build quality like of it ? What is customer service like if i need it fixing?
3) How does the GTX 660M perform? Is it 2GB DDR3 or DDR5? Heard bad reviews of it in the Y580 so was wondering how it works.
4) Can it play Skyrim at Ultra in 1080P with playable FPS?
5) What's it like for hardcore gaming?
I hear the 1080p screen is excellent too - hopefully!
Cheers! -
Is anyone having problems when trying to eject (safely remove) an usb external drive or flashdrive?
I click on the usb device in the taskbar and nothing happens; I mean, the mouse pointer changes to the blue circle as if trying to do something but it doesn't. I have to go into windows explorer and right-click the device and then choose eject. The problem when using my external hdd is that there is no eject option by this method. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance. -

Now you guys can feel even better about choosing a Lenovo laptop:

This is FHD, too. -
What driver is that with? Any idea what ultra graphics and 1080p skyrim would be like on it?

Anyone here know approximately how long a laptop stays in production phase? I purchased a Y580 yesterday (7/19), and this morning (7/20) it was "Released to Manufacturing".
This just makes me glad that I went with a Lenovo as my next laptop of choice. It's quite rare to find corporate executives nowadays who value the act of reinvesting their own salaries in the company, or showing a genuine act of voluntary kindness like Yang has done here. -
Mine was "Released to Manufacturing" for about 4 days and then "In Production" for one day before it shipped. I don't think lenovo is very good at keeping their order statuses updated.

I played about an hour on ultra graphics and my opinion is that it's slightly less smooth than high settings. I think the FPS was just on the edge between playable and annoying, so I decided to go back to high where everything is very smooth. I didn't notice any immediate graphical improvements between high and ultra, so I'm fine with this. -
I set my screen to turn off after a few minutes. When it does, the music volume of my music player of choice (mediamonkey) dramatically lowers. Does anyone know if this can be fixed by one of the available driver settings?

Can anybody comment on reliability and build quality of the Y580?

How are people gaming off the GTX 660m when there aren't drivers for it, not a beta I can see for the 660m either!
-
To download the beta driver you'll have to go to the nVidia control panel and in the update section you have to check a box to include beta versions.
Hope this helps -
Yes that's great just wanted to know before buying thanks again! Would you happen to know the answer to any of these queries ?

Almost every question being asked has already been asked several times. There are detailed answers in this thread.
It really doesn't take much time to go through. Don't be lazy. -
-
Can someone download the free version of FRAPS and tell us what FPS's they're getting when running games on Ultra? Much appreciated.

Does anyone knows if the Wifi Card included will connect to 2.4Ghz Networks only??.. My 4 years Old Laptop connects to both and this one dont!! Bummer!

Do you think you will actually need more than 8GB of ram?

I've been reading mixed things on the y580 series, but mostly good things. Newegg has this model I wish to purchase
Newegg.com - lenovo IdeaPad Y580 (209942U) Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 15.6" 8GB Memory DDR3 1600 1TB HDD 5400rpm Blu-ray RAMBO (Re-writeable) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M
However, is the screen truly 1080p? Newegg and Best Buy both say so, but the internet seems to conflict with that. Some sources say 768p, but someone in this thread posted that it is full 1080p. I would like a clarification, thanks. -

Memory Modules and Upgrades Ideapad - Y-Serie Y580 16GB (2x 8GB), 8GB (1x 8GB) and 4GB (1x 4GB) Notebook - Lenovo - RAM
Funny thing is most Lenovo staff wouldn't have a clue about in-depth specification and supportability of their products
Does anyone know if you can cancel an order with Lenovo if it is already shipped ( Prior to receiving the laptop )? thanks -
Alright guys, I owned Lenovo Y580 for 5 days and then I decided to return it because of the bad touchpad design. I picked up Asus N56VZ-RB71 from Micro-Center. I own Asus for couple days now and I can make some comparisons between Lenovo Y580 and Asus N56VZ-RB71.
Build Quality - Asus wins here. N56VZ is one of the best looking and elegant laptop I have ever owned. Lenovo gets 3 and Asus gets 4 points out of 5 here.
Touchpad - This was the reason, I returned Y580. Y580 has one of the worst touch-pad. It's smooth plastic and when it gets moist due to external or internal temperature it becomes almost impossible to use it. I would give 1 out of 5 stars to Lenovo here. Asus on the other hand has user friendly macbook like surface on the touchpad. Movements are accurate and smooth. Almost perfect 4 out of 5 points for Asus.
Performance - This was the reason I originally bought Y580. I never had any trouble with Y580's performance. I used Sony Vegas movie studio platinum hd without any trouble on it. I have never tried graphics intensive programs on it though. I have yet to test Asus for the performance but I am sure it will do just fine. Lenovo gets higher points here because of better graphics card and it matters to anyone playing games on their laptop. I play my games on PS3 so I am not that worried about weaker graphics card of Asus. One more important thing to mention, Lenovo is upgradable to 16 gbs of RAM on the other hand Asus is not. The max RAM in Asus is 8gb, which should be enough for most of the users. At least it's more than enough for me so I am not too concerned about it.
Hard drive - My lenovo had 500 gb 7200rpm hd and my current Asus has 750gb 7200rpm hd. so it's an upgrade for me.
Temperature - Asus does stay warm under heavy use and so does Y580. If you are concerned about heat issues I think Dell Inspiron 15r SE handles heat better because of i7 3612 processor and less powerful graphics card but again it will be less powerful than Asus and Lenovo. Power comes with price.
Sound quality - You can't go wrong with either of these two here. Lenovo has amazing surround sound system. Asus on the other hand comes with nice subwoofer. It comes to personal choice. I like both in this section.
Display quality - both are 1080p so no perfect answer here. It's glossy reflective display of Lenovo vs Matte non reflective display of Asus. Personally I had no issues with Lenovo's glossy display but after using Asus for couple of days I have to say if I had to chose one I would go with Matte display of Asus. It's beautiful regardless of the lighting of the room. I love the display of N56 so far.
Overall I am happy with my decision of returning Lenovo and getting Asus so far. I will keep you guys updated regarding my experience with Asus under heavy use. will let you know how it handles video editing program. Sorry to gamers as I won't be able to test graphics card for you guys, but if you want me to test benchmarks provide me with the proper link and I would do that for you.
I think the choice is simple. Gamer - Lenovo Y580. Non gamer - Asus N56VZ.
