Uninstall Mcafee antivirus hat is the cause for most of this
-
Overclocking the CPU will not be possible (except the bios offers these options) .
Overclocking the GPU might be possible.
You really dont need to oc the CPU because it is much stronger then the GPU, only overclocking the GPU will increase your performance.
If you are using CPU commanding Software, they wont be noticeably faster, so overclocking the CPU doenst really make sence. -
I have problem with wifi, my old Asus laptop has three signal icon for wifi and y580 has barely one and it's disconnecting all the time
which drivers do you use? -
I'm using stock. Did you uninstall Mcafee?
-
yes I did and have installed microsoft essentials because it's seems like it's least pushy
-
It could be a defective wireless, mine's always full.
-
when playing battlefield 3 im getting temps around 80 degrees is that normal??? should i be worried i have a cooling pad. is this temperature safe?
-
80 degrees for what? The GPU or CPU? That's perfectly fine. Now if it's hard drive....

Hey guys,
I just wonder with what kind of battery cell your Y580 came with. Mine came with 72 Wh, 6700 mAh, but when I checked lenovo eshop (and eshops of 3rd parties) I found only two version of 48 Wh and 62 Wh for sale ... -
Hi all,
I just want to know is there any way to buy a Y580 from Europe (Belgium)? If yes, then how?
(sorry if I ask my question in a wrong place) -
At best I can think is using the Lenovo UK store and doing some cross borders shipping?
-
Try a german retailer like
Cyberport.de - Computer, Notebooks, Fernseher, Apple, Handys & Digitalkameras
Notebook PC Shop - Notebooks & Laptops günstig bei notebooksbilliger.de (15,99 EUR for shipping to Belgium) -
do the deals of lenovo get renewed regularly?
if yes do they differ in price? -
Anybody tried to extend warranty on Lenovo site? I would like to know something more about 2YDepot option but I can't find anywhere any details.
-
I also have trouble updating when I first clean installed my y580.
I stumbled upon a forum in Microsoft. They suggested to use the "System Update readiness tool" which consist of all the updates from Day 1 to current in one package. After installing it, try the updates again and it will only download the newest ones not found in the package.
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [September 2012] -
I think they just keep cycling through offers within a range.
The best price I found was through the barnes and nobles gold certification thingy. I got my laptop with the HD screen, SSD, and 3 year depot warranty for 1150. I was pretty happy and now I'm very pleased with the purchase.
If I have one browser (few tabs) and documents open, I can get about 5-6 hours if I use a 10% cpu setting. I have the 'older' processor, but honestly the 100 mhz 'update' is pretty hilarious. More of a marketing thing than anything else. -
Was there an update for our processor?
-
Yes to the 3630qm, only a 100mhz difference which isn't that significant.
-
I would say it's pretty insignificant given that nothing else has really changed in the architecture.
-
which model number did u get?
how much days did the shipping take?
is the price u said inclusive of taxes?
actually i would also like to know ur experience til now, as in what pros, cons did u find?
(i know this thread is full of these info, but still feeling like seeing another)

I just finished reinstalling almost all the drivers (except the onekey thinggies). But I don't get the animation when turning on/off caps lock and the brightness and sound adjustment. Can someone help? Thanks!
-
Newegg have them in pre order, but it's weird because the specs are the same of the ones I saw two months ago....
By the way, does anyone know about deals in USA for the fullhd monitor version with blu-ray burner? -
To respond to both of you guys.
I bought mine at this link: Barnes and Noble Gold | Lenovo | (US)
Shipping was quick. Got it in a week. I have the full HD screen with blu ray and the 32gb ssd. I didn't want to finagle getting an SSD and installing it myself and this worked out well price wise.
So you can get the one with SSD for 1029 or or the one without it (and smaller but faster HD) for 939. Both have blu ray and HD screen. If you know how to install SSDs, then you can get one much bigger than a 32 gig one for a little more than the price difference. If this makes sense to you then just get an mSATA drive and the cheaper one, then you can run your entire OS off the SSD and get things going speedy.
I really like the machine, I think it's well built and runs well. The touchpad is okay for me, but resting my palms around it does cause it to click and creak a little which is definitely a little unnerving (but fine). My biggest issue is with the keyboard because that took some time to break in but it's totally fine now. I used to miss keys all over the place but am now used to it and rarely do so now.
I wish the screen vibrated a little less, but that's par for the course on bigger laptop monitors. I couldn't use this on a desk on the train. It was pretty bumpy.
I don't really have any issues, though if I was doing it all over again, I might have gone for the y480 to get something slightly more portable since I have a large external monitor anyway. -
Have you installed the Lenovo Energy Management and One Key Theater software? I believe one of those provides the OSD, most likely the One Key Theater. They are both light pieces of software so don't worry about bloat, the Energy Management is kind of essential as well if you want to get the most out of your system.
-
I was having a look, and one thing is not really clear, does you model comes with blu ray or blu ray burner?
Because there are two models with 1TB hard drive + 32gb SSD but one comes with Blu-ray /DVD Combo and the other Blu-ray/DVD-RW (which to me does not make any sense) first one costs $1029 and the second $1316. -
It all depends on the rep you get. I had a rep tell me it didn't burn Blu-Ray and another tell me that it did. They seriously don't know. I have a Y580 209945U with a MatS.hita drive. (Can't type that with out a . in it or it will get blocked) In Power2Go, (comes installed on Y580) it lists the drive as MatS.hita BD-MLT UJ260. If you look this drive up online it says it will burn Blu-Ray. In Power2Go, I put a BD-R in my computer and it shows in fact that I can burn files to the disc. I haven't tried it yet as the discs are expensive and I don't have anything to burn on to it yet.

A question for the Y580 owners.
THere is a model on sale, this one here:
LENOVO IDEAPAD Y580 M772GGE 15"Gaming Intel Core i7(3.Generation), 8GB RAM, BluRay bei notebooksbilliger.de
And it says it has a ssd 32gb and a tv tunner.
How is that ?
If the SSD is msata, and the tv tunner is mini pci express, does that mean it has 2 mini pci express slots ?
A question for those owners who have opened up the laptop.
It would be cool if i could add a msata ssd to this model here:
LENOVO IDEAPAD Y580 M772DGE 15"Gaming Intel Core i7(3.Generation), 2GB NVIDIA GTX Grafik bei notebooksbilliger.de (800 eur)
Because my wife wants a laptop with tv tunner -
Áctually It has even 3 MiniPCI Express slots (SSD mSATA, TV Tuner and Wifi Card...but the Wifi One is AFAIK only a half one). But i belive only one slot can host a mSATA card.
Yes, you can add a mSATA on your own.
But i would still prefer the 999 Full HD version. The HD Display is crap. -
So i can buy the tv tunner model, and add a Msata SSD, and change the wifi card to another one of my choice !
Did i understand so correctly ?
Is the 1080p model similar in this regard ? -
Regarding the Blu ray burner, does anyone know about it?
-
It doesn't have a burner AFAIK. None of them advertise it as such, atleast on the american sites
-
I have the NU model - 1TB 5400 RPM HD, 32GB mSATA, Bluray PLAYER with DVD/RW drive and the QM3630 chip.
I am 99.99999999999% sure that all Bluray/DVD combo drives are bluray players but DVD/CD burners. I further do not believe that ANY of them have a bluray burner built in (at least the ones sold direct on Lenovo's site).
The 5400 hard drive is an ENORMOUS bottleneck in performance and I recommend moving to an SSD or at the very least a 7200 RPM drive. It's really annoying me. I'd rather have the Mac still. -
Yes, you can add a mSATA as a normal bootable drive by yourself.
Wifi card:
Lenovo uses whitelists for the usable Wifi cards in their laptops. So if the card is not on the whitelist you can't use the card. There is now a BIOS update out for Y580 so perhaps some will edit the whitelist and we can use all wifi cards. The whitelisted wifi cards you can find in the Y580 support section on lenovo.com.
The FHD an HD sharew the same buildup beside the display (and the display connector).
Which region/country? On some markets there is a Y580 configuration with BD-RW+- drive (Germany for example). The BD-ROM drive can burn DVD and CDs. -
If you read the forums you will see that you need to install one of the updates by itself. If you just select one of the updates at a time it will work.
-
OK, I am going to put this to rest right now. I have aY580 209945U model purchased direct from Lenovo's US website in September. It does in fact have a Blu-Ray burner as I just burned a Blu-Ray disc from it. I was tired of people saying that it did not have a burner. NOW, that being said, Lenovo at anytime could change the specs. Mine has a Matsh.ita (had to put a .) BD-MLT UJ260 drive in it as reported by Power2Go.
-
Can you check Device Manager and post the model number of the bluray drive you have ?
http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/system_data/y580_tech_specs.pdf
this spec sheet states they only use 2 types of drives- the base dvd burner, and bluray burner. -
The Walking Dead Episode One shouldn't drop fps on our machine, right? Though I have I5 inside with 4 GB of ram, but still... Is there a way to switch graphic cards manually?
-
Hey guys, I just ordered my machine on Monday (and it already shipped! Looks like I won't be one of those Lenovo shipping dept horror stories), and I had a question about the screen. I know that for most/any laptop, you can buy replacement screens if anything ever happens to it, usually from eBay or other sites, and then manually install it. I bought the second least expensive model, the one with the 3630QM, 1TB HDD, but the 1368x768 screen. Now, if in the future I decide that I would prefer the 1080p screen, can I buy that version and install it? Or would it be incompatible with my machine because it originally had the lower resolution version? I know that there probably won't be many answers on this because the laptop hasn't even been out for a year yet, but thanks if anyone can help me out.
-
^ it's nearly impossible to upgrade to 1080p because the lcd cable is hard to find.
-
Device Manager states that the drive is a Matsh.ita (without the .) BD-MLT UJ260. In Windows Explorer the drive shows up under Devices with Removable Storage as BD-RE.
-
Do you think this cable will be more available in the coming year, after the Y580 has been out for a while? And honestly, I don't mind Frankenstein-ing my laptop a little bit if there's a cable that will do the trick, even if it's not Lenovo's specific cable. Thanks for the response, by the way!
-
I will do that when I am home in front of the Lenovo. However you will notice that the NU model that I have is not listed here.
The 5U is listed with a BD burner on that page, but it flies in the face of what I was told by a representative (which I posted on here - they only play bluray and burn DVD). That said, I will be HAPPY to be proven wrong. It's a shame Lenovo cannot be more clear about such a simple thing. -
this one comes with a blu-ray burner: Newegg.com - lenovo IdeaPad Y580 (59345717) Notebook Intel Core i7 3630QM(2.40GHz) 15.6" 8GB Memory 1TB HDD Blu-ray Rambo NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M
And if you check Lenovo's website there are 3 different types of optical drives, so Im guessing the two in red are the ones that comes with blu-ray burner:
Anyway, is it bluray burner really necessary? Does anyone use it? -
Again, the Lenovo rep I chatted with indicated that NONE of the ones Lenovo sells DIRECTLY from their site offer a RAMBO drive.
That said, I found it odd that your NewEgg link had a comment on the product given that it is a pre-release (release date listed as 10-26).
I don't need a bluray writer, but it would be nice to know if I had one. I don't even own any disks to do such a thing anyway. -
I use it for video production to record HD footage onto Blu-Ray. Other than that, it really isn't needed. You can now buy 32GB USB flash drives for under $10 and use them over and over again.
-
I think I chatted with at least 3 reps. 2 said no Blu-Ray burner, one said yes to the Blu-Ray burner. I then pulled the trigger and thought "if it came with no Blu-Ray burner, I could always point to the rep who said yes and return it."
The other thing odd about the New Egg listing is that it states it has 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0. The original Y580 specs listed this as well, but when it finally started shipping, I believe they went to 3 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0. I know mine is configured with 3 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0. -
I don't why, but I think newegg is right...
There's absolutely no reason for a 170 bucks difference besides the blu ray burner.
Also, it's really awkward the way they describe their optical drives: either dvd/blu-ray combo (which I understands it's a blu-ray player with capability of burning dvds and cds, since I've never seen a blu-ray drive which couldn't' burn dvds ) and blu-ray/dvd burner which also understand the same, but judging by the price difference I would say it's a dvd,cd,blu-ray burner) -
no sense debating it now.
just check your device mgr when you get home. Then we'll know for sure. I'm curious what you find, too.
Also, bluray burner is nice to have if you want to backup lots of data. typically bd disc holds 6x more data than dvd, so you save space with fewer discs.
also, bd is cheaper than dual layer dvd disc. -
My drive is a HL-DT-ST BD-RE BT20N Drive. Not sure what that is.
The outside doesn't say anything about BD-RW. Does say DVD-RW and Blu-Ray readable though. -
Two reps I chatted with said, it has blu ray writer. There is no way it has no bd writer and costs $150 more.
What I don't understand is the 4PU and 45U are just $20 apart before the sale price but nearly $200 after the sale price! BTW, I see that the 4PU is $949 which is a drop of $50 from yesterday! woo hoo.. I'm considering it but will wait for next 3-4 weeks for any sale... Eyeing for 45U or 4PU as rest of them are either low resolution or 5200rpm hdd.
