If they changed the values then it would make it very hard to compare how it was compared to the Windows 7 index. An SSD for me in the WIndows 7 Index would probably give the same score as my current 1TB HDD which isn't representative at all. I know some reviewers use benchmarks and one I can recommend is 3dmark vantage for gpu.

I have also heard that Windows 8 is supposed to be less resource intensive, so it in theory should run better than Windows 7...

windows index score is the biggest waste of resources, and it's a useless test.

i disabled the windows performance index in the task scheduler. It was set to run every week, which is stupid.

    I don't care if it scores a 1.0

I just ordered my Y580 20994NU on October 18th and wanted to see if anyone else on here just placed an order in the past few weeks, and if so what was the total time from order to delivery?

The order status page has been useless. Yesterday it told me that the order shipped on 10/21 for a 10/28 delivery. Today it shows my order shipping on 11/11 with a delivery date of 11/18.

That's a painfully long wait! I've been reading that the order/delivery process can be 'jacked up' and very lengthy at times. Probably not a good time to order one with online
Christmas shoppers out in full force.

Also thought it was funny that when you chat with sales you speak with an American...the guy that helped me was in North Carolina. But order status, you chat with someone in India (and I'm assuming tech support too.)

Would anyone say this laptop is fine to bring to university every day? Is it heavy? What could I compare it to in terms of weight?

^laptop and charger weigh 6.5 lbs together. I weighed the laptop alone at 6.2 lbs.

so find 6.5 lbs textbook, and carry it around all day, and see how you feel.

everyone is different. some people are wimps.

I ordered 20994PU on October 6th. THe original shipping date was October 28th. On 16th I realized there is a change in estimated shipping date to 24th if you order on that date (from web price). I emailed them about this and wondering how could I got worse shipping date while I ordered weeks ago.

Later It moved to 25th which is today. So i will update my status in 24 hours. Hopefully it really ship today. :3

Hey guys I have a question for some of you who also use the Y580 for games. Recently I noticed that the GPU is hitting max temps. that are higher than I recall from before. Usually max temps where around mid 60's Celsius now it hits mid 70's. I know it is still not even close to overheating but I'm just wondering if it may have to do with new drivers or something because I did not change anything and I am wondering where the 10 degrees difference came from. Then again it might just be me :p.
    Thanks for replies.

Or small or have back issues.

I'd probably not carry this around everywhere unless I need the resources. If I just need to surf the web and write something, I'd probably just grab my netbook. I would have bought an ultrabook if I still had a desktop.

Hey guys. I recently installed the RTM version of Windows 8, and it was working perfectly fine for a good bit. But today when I started up my computer, I noticed my wireless adapter was off. No problem, just hit fn+f5 and click on the...the window didn't pop up. I can't turn on the wireless adapter. I've been looking around for drivers to fix it, but the only thing I've accomplished (after installing the latest version of Lenovo's Energy Management) is making that key combo toggle Win8's airplane mode. All the other function buttons work dandy, but things like the the volume, brightness, capslock, and of course the wireless indicators are all missing, although their functions (except for the wireless panel) continue to function, i.e. pressing fn+up increases brightness and shows Windows 8's brightness indicator, caps lock TOGGLES CAPS with no indicator. Lockkey is currently running, which makes me even more confused. Any help?

You better wait until all drivers are fully compatible with windows 8. I upgraded mine 580 to windows 8 on 26th, took me 5 hours to finish (mostly because i chose to keep my data). After that it had many problems : Camera not working properly, could't change picture profile, IE couldn't open, sound control problems, and the most annoying thing was Werfault.exe errors. Then i tried to do a fresh installation, now the major problem is my internet speed is very slow while others PC are ok. I suspect the wifi driver got problem.

So is your internet speed ok? I only have trouble with wifi, the Ethernet works just fine. Can you share with me which drivers you download and install from? My network driver is "Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter_5.100.245.20". It was automatically detected by Windows.

I'm still having the turning off issue. Even if it's fully charged, if I close the lid and leave, the laptop is always off when I come back. It also displays that 'Windows did not turn off properly' screen. It use dot be very infrequent but now it's happening daily so I'm thinking of sending it in.

Just wanted to update my order status in case anyone else comes across this thread using Google, like I did.

Since my previous post on the 24th, my order status has changed dramatically and it has finally shipped. In my last post it was to ship on 11/11, three days ago it changed to 10/26 and actually shipped on 10/27 with a UPS tracking number.

So all in all not as bad as I thought. Ordered on 10/18 and shipped on 10/27.

Hope they have shipped or you have received your Y580 Edward.

That's nice. I already suspect they will send the laptops in a bulk or batch, because everyday, the shipping estimation for new order is always the same. Also I just read the same shipping experience like ours (batch) in pages 40-50 ish in this thread

Yeah mine also shipped on 26th, so looks like ours is in the same batch so we should get it around the same time :p
Too bad looks like I'm order early before the batch shipment ( 3 weeks wait :/) Oh well at least the wait is almost over.
Lets hope for the best hehe

that's not the proper way. it makes text blurry

on the screen resolution window, at the bottom there is a link to "make text smaller or larger"

it will increase the text size while keeping the 1920x1080 screen resolution.
Medium will make it look like a typical 1366x768.
    Large is for your grandparents.

At that temperature there shouldn't be any GPU throttling so you should be ok. The max for GPU's is around 100.

Just got my Y580 today. I purchased it from Barnes and Noble Gold and it took about 35 days to arrive. lol

I installed the 256GB Crucial mSata drive with no problems and I have 16GB of Corsair RAM on the way. I did a clean install and I set my SSD to primary and reformatted the original Windows partition.

My question is, which drivers should I install? So far I have just been installing whatever I think I need from the drivers partition. Should I be going to Lenovo.com and getting all the newest drivers there for everything?

Also, is there a better battery you can buy for this thing? Like a 9-cell one? I've had trouble finding it online.

I used this guide here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/680517-y580-driver-install-guide.html

Instead of using the ones that the computer came with, I installed the ones from the Lenovo Suppourt website. Worked like a charm. :) Some of the drivers, like the Intel Chipset and the NVIDIA graphics drivers I had to download from the website itself.
