The July 4 deal is weird. The 1TB with 32gb ssd is cheaper than the one with only 1TB. They also didn't have the 500gb 7200 hardisk before. I would have chosen that one if it was available. Maybe I should have waited for July 4 but I don't know if it will be delivered on time when my cousin gets back on July 16.

So seriously though everyone keeps ignoring me on this and I really want to finish.... What type of caddy is needed to put the 1tb hdd it comes with into the slot where the odd is? And if possible can someone link me to a good one?

Anyone know of any brick and mortar stores that carry these laptops? I'd low to test drive it before I buy it.

BTW, I'll be doing a few comparisons between the Y580 and the Ivy Bridge Envy 15.
I just want to see how The Y580 fairs against its rivals. Don't get me wrong, I love my Lenovo! -
Seeing as how the current ODD curves with the laptop, would it look utterly stupid after its replaced with a caddy+hdd?

This is interesting: Best Buy Lenovo - 15.6" IdeaPad Laptop - 6GB Memory - 750GB Hard Drive
Not a model listed on Lenovo's site. I'm guessing the 750GB drive the the version two of Seagate's Momentus, which is pretty nice. 6GB is odd, but fine and user upgradable. Still has the 660M, not sure if it's gimped or not though. And full HD screen. For $900? Seems almost too good to be true, especially when I get the free Xbox thrown in since I'm a college student.
Sorry if I'm not allowed to post a link, I'm still kinda new here. I shall comply with whatever rules are hereby decreed upon thyself. -

how long does this laptop last without being plugged in?
Battery life on power saving mode? -
I heard that too, but I also heard that there were a lot of complaints about it, so I doubt they would do it again (I hope). I'll just have to follow the return policy and run my benchmarks, and if it's gimped, return it. -
-
Best Buy is already selling Y580 at $899 with 750gb hdd. Why can they sell cheaper than Lenovo's website?
-
-
I guess this is normal case for early buyers. If only my sister's laptop didn't break down this early, I could have waited for a few more days.

No..hm..Check wiki because I don't know how to explain this
-
So Im about to send my DV6t-7000 back for a return to buy the y580. Just wanting to make sure the gtx 660m isnt gimped at all on this machine.

Is there anybody here who owns a Y580 (with either display) who also has any other spare 15.6" display lying around and would be willing to test it for compatibility?
I need to know if the Y580 has a BIOS whitelist that would break compatibility with the B156HW01 V4 or any other display model not officially listed in the hardware maintenance guide.
Just need to know which display you currently have (1366x768 or 1920x1080), the model number of the display you're testing in it (including extension tags), and whether or not worked. -
Wait what is 295.93? Does it come with the y580? Or does it come with the 304.48?
-
-
Can you guys let me know if this is a good deal for the price???
-
Anyone know how you switch between the two graphics cards? Or if its automatic when does it switch? My Y580 is literally lagging while playing minecraft with a couple mods. -
For all the people that bought the y580 from Fry's:
I know that the model that Fry's has only has 2 USB 3.0 ports, but other than this, is anything about the Fry's models (such as the GPU) gimped in anyway? Which model did you guys buy from Fry's? I see they have one with a 64gb SSD... -
it wouldn't let me pick the screen, it was mostly preset beforehand -
1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen large, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution tend to be cheaply manufactured LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast. It is advisable not to buy a laptop that comes with this type of display when it is within budget to buy a laptop that has a better display and still suits your needs, and if you don't require larger text for eyesight-related reasons.
This model, $935 through the Barnes and Noble Gold discount, comes with the 1920x1080 display. Sign up for a free Barnes and Noble Gold account, then sign in. -
Crap... my Y580 just developed a single stuck pixel on the right side. None of the tools to fix it are working though. Should I bother returning it or will there normally be one or two? I don't want to return it and get a different one thats even worse.

I don't understand where people are getting the idea that the 660m in the 580 is "gimped" in some way.
Someone on the Lenovo page for the 580 also left a review saying that the 660m wasn't up to spec. -
-
But your statement was kind of contradictory, what do you mean? -
-
-
Can't you tell if the card is gimped or not from the benchmarks people have been posting?
-
At least that's how I've interpreted the last several pages, ahaha. -
I searched the whole thread and could not find a clear answer to this:
Do all Y580s come with an mSATA port? Including the ones that only home with a HDD from the factory? -
-
Is the 660m able to be OC'd? In the DV6 we werent allowed to mess with much even with msi afterburner.
-
Anyone want to estimate how gaming proof the 1080p models?
