Update drivers. 99% of the time they are productive worth while updates that improve performance or battery usage. Or they might be fixes if the drivers are new like the wireless driver.

If they break something just install the old drivers. Create a restore point if your really paranoid.

    All,
Greetings from the Samsung AB9+ "forum" - I saw a call for help about a color profile file to maybe help your screen color woes. It is true that the Y2P and the AB9+ use the same Samsung screen, but it sounds like we are having better results with color reproduction. Attached is our default ICC profile - remove the ".txt" and drop it in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color , BUT PLEASE DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I hope all goes well. Enjoy your Y2P's, too - I really loved my Yoga until it was stolen after about 1 month.

    Best,
    Brian

Leftbrain99 - that's great. Thank you for your help -- and sorry to hear someone stole your Yoga

BUT... the story just gets more interesting. The file you uploaded appears to be a "stock" default color space, not one customized to the Pentile display on our Y2P and AB9+

This file appears to be "IEC 61966-2.1 Default RGB colour space - sRGB", created 2/9/1998 by iec.ch which I assume is a standards group doing color management

I just loaded that up in Y2P Color Management control panel tool but unfortunately little difference in colors and my yellows still have the green tint. This isn't our "magic bullet" fix.

Leftbrain -- would you mind taking another look and see if you see any other ICC or WCS files in that folder?

We may not find anything else interesting there. It would be great if it worked but it might be something deeper in the display driver software that Samsung did better on the AB9+ to improve the color accuracy

Leftbrain - would you be up for another idea. Could you tell us what Control Panel \ Display \ Advanced Settings says? My Y2P shows
Adapter = Intel HD Graphics 4400
    Monitor = Generic PnP Monitor

    Then... Monitor Properties
    Driver = "Generic PnP Monitor" Microsoft 6/21/2006 , v6.3.9600.16384
Under Details and "Hardware Instance Path" -- "DISPLAY\SDC424A\4&35D04663&0&UID68092928"

On the Y2P forums we've been assuming SDC is Samsung Display Corp. If you see the same Hardware description there that confirms we're looking at the same panel

Do you have a custom Samsung driver for your panel or just the standard Microsoft one? If it is different, I'd love to try that on my Y2P

    Many thanks for your help!
    Richard

Quickly cross checking shows the AB9+ does have the same model number. The link to AB9+ post here.

What I was trying to ask was whether the AB9+ uses the standard Microsoft Display driver or has a custom one. If it's a custom Samsung driver and the display panel is the same (seems to be confirmed) then it would be worth trying that driver on our Yoga 2 Pro's and see what happens. Can just revert to the MSFT one if that fails or fails to help

Unfortunately, in many cases this is simply not possible. In fact, I don't think it's possible for the Y2P at the moment. And with Best Buy slowly inching its way to oblivion, and the demise of the other big-box stores like Computer City and CompUSA, the likelihood of pre-purchase access to hands-on experience with any piece of hardware is getting smaller and smaller.

I have a quick upgrade question for anyone who can help. My Y2P is obviously running 8.1, I have a product key for Windows 8 pro pack, will that product key upgrade me to 8.1 pro pack, or downgrade me to 8.0, or just not work? I know that is a novice question but I would appreciate any help on this. Thank you

Quick question for you owners! How do you all feel about using the Yoga as a tablet? Is it easy to say, grab and use for something quickly, similar to what you can do with an iPad? (too bad the iPad is functionally useless)?

    Thanks!

It's not bad as far as ultrabook tablets go. Obviously not as lightweight as an ipad. But I used tablet and stand mode all the time it's one of the main reasons I bought it. Perfect for using ie11 metro which is amazingly fast and great on battery life.

Basically this machine is a fantastic laptop, great all-in-one (in tent or stand), and mediocre tablet that can work in a pinch. The problem with this as a tablet is that it is too big to hold comfortably. What most people find, however, is that they often set tablets down and here the Y2P is great because of stand mode (stands up and angles better than a tablet). But as far as standing and holding for more than 2 seconds you will need to cradle this rather than hold it in one hand. A 13 inch screen is too big to hold comfortably.

So see this as primarily as a great laptop and all-in-one and a mediocre tablet. If you want one that is a great tablet and mediocre laptop (in terms of form factor) then the Surface/Surface Pro is probably the right machine. I haven't used it but would guess that the form factor of the Yoga 11 is a decent laptop and decent tablet. Because they call for different dimensions, you can't get a perfect laptop and perfect tablet all in one machine, so choose which compromise suits you best.

Thanks for the good advice. I found a cheap one with a full cable and the micro side looks similar to the one you recommended. Can you tell from the picture if this would work as well? Amazon.com: Fosmon HDMI to Micro HDMI Cable (6 Feet): Electronics

I am planning to buy Yoga 2 pro Orange i7 256gb, but I aint sure how bad is the yellow color. I checked it in bestbuy, it looks off but nothing i cant work with. Unfortunately they didnt have any internet connection so i couldnt check the videos. Does it bother duing videos and movies as well? Should I wait for black friday- lenovo may fix the problem and the price may drop (rightnow i can get it in 1299, not sure if i can get a better deal on thanksgiving)
Any insight on VAIO flip 13, that also looks good a little expensive though.

Thanks for the info, that's good to know. I think I can live with the mediocre tablet situation - fine to cradle it and lean it on my lap for PDF reading etc for which you generally sit down anyway lol.

As someone said earlier, I was surprised how much I used "stand mode". Going in, I saw myself using tablet and tent mode a lot, but in reality I think I've used tent mode twice and laptop mode....well never since I bought it 2 weeks ago. Stand mode is brilliant when on the couch or in bed.

    In C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color, I have:
    D50.camp (WCS Viewing Condition Profile)
    D65.camp (WCS Viewing Condition Profile)
Epson IJ Printer 07.icc (ICC Profile)
    ewgray18.icm (ICC Profile)
    ewgray22.icm (ICC Profile)
    ewrgb18.icm (ICC Profile)
    ewsrgb.icm (ICC Profile)
    Graphics.gmmp (WCS Gamut Mapping Profile)
    MediaSim.gmmp (WCS Gamut Mapping Profile)
    Photo.gmmp (WCS Gamut Mapping Profile)
    Proofing.gmmp (WCS Gamut Mapping Profile)
    RSWOP.icm (ICC Profile)
sRGB Color Space Profile.icm (ICC Profile)
    wf3520_r.icc (ICC Profile)
    wscRGB.cdmp (WCS Device Profile)
    wsRGB.cdmp (WCS Device Profile)

Obviously, the Epson and wf3520 files are for my printer.

    My AB9+:
Adapter = Intel HD Graphics Family
    Monitor = Generic PnP Monitor

    Graphics Properties
    Driver = Intel Coproration, 8/26/2013, 10.18.10.3282

    Monitor Properties
    Driver = "Generic PnP Monitor" Microsoft 6/21/2006 , v6.3.9600.16384
    Device Instance Path = "DISPLAY\SDC424A\4&2FC9280F&0&UID68092928"

So I think the difference may just be the monitor serial number and a description of the graphics device, which I know to be Intel 4400

Yes, and as someone else linked here, I reported the model number on the AB9+ thread as being SDC424A, and that is consistent with the above. SDC is generally accepted to be Samsung Display Corporation.

See above - standard MS driver, same as yours.

I am happy to upload any and all of my color profile files for you to try.

I just put in an order for $1499 version that dropped to $1199 with code. This issue with the yellow color on the screen, is showing up for everyone's laptop or is it just a certain number of people having this issue? Hopefully, there is fix for this issue and it's just driver/profile/software related. If not do the people who have this issue feel like it's livable? For the spec and size it seems like a pretty good deal for what I'm paying for it.

Leftbrain -- thank you for your extensive help BUT I can't see any smoking gun here.

-- All the .ICC and WCS files on your Samsung AB9+ are "stock" (standard Microsoft or Epson, etc) nothing special from Samsung for the 3200x1800 panel.

-- On my Yoga 2 Pro I see all the same ICC and WCS files that you have. The Yoga isn't "missing" any that the Samsung has

-- You have the same standard Microsoft Display driver as on the Yoga 2

Thank you for your help but it was worth trying to see if there might be a quick fix this way.

There's more to the mystery of how your Samsung AB9+ is getting better colors out of the same panel than just a custom ICC or WCS or special display driver

Thanks for your help and enjoy our Samsung

That's certainly a micro HDMI connector. The problem folks have noticed is that the micro HDMI socket on the Yoga 2 Pro is recessed, instead of "flush" with the left vertical face of the laptop. This seems to result in some perfectly reasonable LOOKING micro HDMI cables not working reliably with the Y2P.

My guess is that making the micro HDMI socket recessed is not following the HDMI standards properly

The end result is that I don't think anyone can say by looking at a cable if it's going to work well on the Yoga.

Good luck with your Folsom and please report back if it is reliable (signal doesn't keep dropping out). If so, we can add it to the "tested and known to work list". I know the Monoprice adapter works for me but I have another cable that looks fine but is very flaky

I was having the same issues, and took the advice of another user and it worked awesome. Go to Lenovo's site, get the new driver for the original Yoga for the synaptics touchpad, uninstall your current one, reboot, and install the new one for the Orig Yoga. Works like a charm.

Next question, If I want to do a "factory reset" to put my Y2P back to "out of the box" condition, do I select "Remove everything and reinstall windows" from the Update and Recovery settings? And if so, do I select remove my files only, or do I select clean all drives?

Yeah I wish this machine had the key on the back like some laptops do. Try downloading and running "Belarc Advisor". There is a free version. It will generate a report on just about everything you want to know about your computer, including any product keys like Windows, Office, etc.

There are other key finders out there but I believe that currently only Belarc can reliably find the Windows key.

I used the code: EMAIL4YOGA2PRO which is coupon code for i7, 256GB, 8GB version of Y2P. It will knock $300 off the price on the Lenovo website. It drops from $1499 to $1199. This was posted by someone else earlier in this thread.

    2 quick followup questions:

    - How is the Y2P for carrying around / pulling out during a bus ride or something to do some tablet reading? I've been experimenting with the Surface Pro 2 and it's fairly easy to pull out when needed, but a bit heavy...
    - Does it get any junk in the keys if put down somewhere while in tablet mode since the keyboard is exposed?

No the yellow issue does not affect videos and pictures. The color range and saturation isn't quite on par with a mbpr retina but it's certainly sharper.

This should probably be asked in the release thead but yes the VAIO flip is an expensive option. If I remember right it starts at $1200 w/ i5 4gbr 500/8 hybrid drive and fhd. The 14" model has an option to go higher than fhd but that's an extra $300 for the upgrade. But if you customize the 13" to match the y2ps specs its getting up to 15-1600.

Sony's new lines look pretty sexy though. I checked out the VAIO pro 13 and it's about as thin and light as the zenbooks. Haven't seen a VAIO flip in person, not sure if they have a little more bulk to them.

Anyway sorry for going off topic :p

Would you be mostly working in Windows on the MBP? Any issues changing keyboards?

Has anyone tried the slot-in-case (the one from gen 1 Yoga) on Yoga 2 pro? Is it a good fit in tablet mode?

Has anyone done the "reset to factory settings" from within PC Settings -> Update & Recovery? Any problems with it?

I thinking of an earlier poster who re-installed Windows and lost the "Lenovo Transitions", which isn't provided on Lenovo's site. He may have done a clean install of windows.

There was also another poster who reported having an extra partition on his disk after reinstalling Windows, but again I'm not sure if he did the "reset to factory settings" or not.

I keep remembering questions. Sorry for the extra post, but thought it was best to combine everything:

    - How is the Y2P for carrying around and pulling out during a bus ride or something to do some tablet reading? I've been experimenting with the Surface Pro 2 and it's a bit heavy - Y2P is bigger and heavier, so would it fit in a bag and be easy to get out and work with quickly?

    - Does it get any junk in the keys if put down somewhere while in tablet mode since the keyboard is exposed?

    - Screen size: anyone have any experience with snapping programs to the right/left side (in Desktop, Winkey + right/left arrow) and still being able to see everything? on my 13" at 1280x800, if I snap Word to half the screen I have to zoom out to 90% to fit the whole of each line, which makes text really small. Is this the case on the Y2P?

Sorry... I'm in Canada and there aren't any demo models. :\ thanks!

If all you want is tablet reading get a kindle hdx. If weight is a concern get a dell venue 8 pro which supports full windows 8.1 (not rt) and weighs less than a pound.

    1) My opinion here probably shouldn't be taken too seriously because its my first ultrabook, but I love how thin and light it is compared to my other laptops. I've never tried using a computer on a bus, so I don't know what that would be like. My guess is I'd feel awkward using anything other than a phone or small tablet.

    2) I'm sure you will get junk in there if you're not careful. Just be careful.

    3) I immediately changed my resolution to 1080p and see no reason to ever go back to the ridiculously high 3200x1800 or whatever it is. 1080p is awesome. I have no issues with snapping anything at that resolution. I haven't tried 1280x800 and am curious why you are using that one?

It wouldn't be easier or lighter than the surface pro 2. Opening it into tablet mode is a bit more cumbersome that the SP2 as well. The Y2P is still very thin and light for a 13" ultrabook. For a longer period of time, the Stand mode might be very convenient since you can basically pick any angle while it is resting on your lap.

I haven't gotten any junk on my keys while in tablet or stand mode. So far I've only rested it on my lap or a table/desk. The keyboard tray is slightly recessed, so the Y2P doesn't rest on the keys at all when they are facing down. Some people here have used a sleeve to cover the keyboard while it's folded back. I work in a pretty clean environment so I'm not worried about it.

Snapping to the sides works well for me. Since it's a 13" diagonal screen, the width is actually 11.5". So if you snap a word document to half of that you are ending up with a document that is 5.75" wide. The higher resolution of the Y2P really helps here, but it's still a small area to cram a document into. But like I said, I can see it just fine.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I was looking for two things: being able to read (on trains, buses, etc.) and to be able to do work if I'm say, spending time with a parent, or traveling for work, etc. Tablet would obviously be fine for the former, but maybe not for the latter - but I'm trying to avoid having to lug my laptop backpack around for the latter, hence trying to find a compromise.

Thanks for all that. Ha, I'm using 1280x800 because that's what's on my 5 year old Dell XPS m1330 :)

This is good to know re the keyboard tray - thanks!

re the snapping to the sides, this is interesting. My current laptop is also 13", so 5.75" wide as well, but is it accurate to say its resolution is lower hence I have to zoom out? Or would I have to zoom out anyway with the Y2P just because of physical screen size?

I thought I'd jump back to this one to respond: I was back browsing in BestBuy yesterday looking at their sleeves and this one jumped out at me. The link shows it being about $40 for some reason but in the store it was $24.

AND since I bought my Y2P from BestBuy, I remembered I got a coupon worth $20 in my email just a couple days before. So I grabbed it, made sure it fit the floor model, and asked the cashier if she could scan the coupon off my phone (answer: yes).

I fits GREAT and I love the look of it. Especially at a total cost of $4

I think you'll have to zoom out with either laptop to get the document to fit in that width. The difference with the Y2P is the higher resolution will make the letters look sharper, thus causing them to be easier to read. Theoretically the text on either screen would be the same exactly size since both documents would be the same width. The only difference would be the sharpness/clarity.

I have a question - if I want to reset my Y2P back to the way it came out of the box, do I use the Lenovo OneKey Recovery, or do I go through PC Settings > Update & Recovery > Recovery > Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows?

Update, actually. I just tested this on another family computer.

At 1600x900, having 2 Word docs side by side got me full views of both. Using a measuring tape on the screen showed that the 'inches' in the ruler were proportionally shrunk at 100% - they were proper 'inches' at 120%. At 120%, putting the scrollbar all the way to the left took the ruler to about 5.25 inches.

At 1440x900, I had to zoom out to be able to see the entire documents. At 100%, the ruler 'inches' were very close to the measuring tape. Putting the scrollbar all the way to the left took the ruler to about 5.3 inches.

So it really does depend on resolution... which is actually what I thought, meaning that a 13" screen at 1920x1080 and a 15" screen at 1920x1080 SHOULD show the same amount of things, just that it'll be bigger / clearer on the 15".

Having had to do both for various reasons, here is my experience. When I used the PC Settings option, it went back to brand new (asking me to select Language and all) and was like brand new out of the box. When I used the Recovery button (trackpad stopped responding and Lenovo rep uninstalled and reinstalled and wasn't working so they had to use OneKey Recovery option). With OneKey, I went through the startup process however my screensaver and a few other "settings" had been saved. So back to new looks like you should use the PC settings path. Nice thing about using the OneKey, was that I was able to make changes to some settings I did not do correctly when I first got the machine because I was in such a rush to see the beauty of the screen.

I'm assuming that you meant to say "....Nice thing about using the PC Settings..." was that you were able to make changes, etc, correct?

Because you said the OneKey actually retained some settings?
