Anyone else getting hangs where suddenly the keyboard backlight turns off, and the computer accepts no touchpad or keyboard input? I can still drag something or scroll on the screen when it happens, and sometimes the on screen keyboard pops up during this dead input moment, but not always. This started happening to me tonight out of the blue, and not sure why since nothing was updated recently. Fortunately the longest it happens is about 15 seconds or so, and then things resume. It just happened now, for about 8 seconds, then immediately again for another 3 or 4 seconds. Driving me batty tonight.

I'm dealing with the yellow issue, not a huge problem for me, but the scaling of fonts in some apps is really annoying for some of the things I do for my job (CTO of an IT company so I'm on this thing pretty much all day long). And the inability to click and drag if your click happens to fall on the right side of the trackpad really frustrates me as well, since it never mattered for the Retina MacBook Pro I migrated from, and with the angle of the arm/hand to the trackpad, my thumb naturally falls to the right half of the trackpad when doing things...

Other than that, I like this machine, just have to see if I'm going to be able to work through my own frustrations with it before the Best Buy return policy is past. Wish it wasn't so prone to picking up oil from my hands too.

I don't know how easy it will be to remove and don't want to try to pry up a corner as I don't want it to start sticking up. I usually run computers to the ground and nobody wants them after I'm done with them (or I give them to my kids) so I'm not concerned about removing the skin. Their website says it is a non-permanent adhesive and leaves behind no sticky residue.

Anyone know a good way to do disk encryption? Bitlocker doesn't seem to exist for me and I can't figure out why, truecrypt doesn't support eufi.

Have not experienced any of the problems you have mentioned here. Sounds like a systemic hardware issue to me. Just play it safe and exchange it. If you are Elite or Elite Plus member at BestBuy you have 30 to 45 days respectively to return.

P.S., I do a lot of database design work all day and could never use a trackpad without going nuts. I just use a mouse when working.

Perhaps you should just go 1920 x 1080 at work and full res at play?

A tip and a word of warning in handling your screen when opening and closing:

These scratch resistant screens are very hard and brittle. As such you don't want to be twisting them a lot. This means either grab both edges of the screen when opening it or grab it in the middle. NEVER open it by one corner. Don't jerk, make slow steady motions. In general be gentle.

I don't think the general warranty covers cracked screens and they can be very expensive to replace.

How to make blacks blacker and whites whiter:

Right click your Desktop and select Graphics Properties > Display > Color and set Gamma to .4 (low as it will go) and Brightness to 10. Then set your screen brightness from the Charms Bar to about 80% in a dark room or 100% in a bright room.

This will make black text very black and the white background very white. Caution, videos and photos which are dark anyway will be darker.

This is a bit hard to understand, since similar spec Sony or Asus is about $500 more.

Well, if we're going to make unreasonable wishes and want them to be fact, I don't think any car should cost more than $5000. :)

I have 3 weeks left of my return time at best buy, and have been looking hard at alternatives while I put this though its paces, and at the price point (and beyond) I just can't find something that offers nearly this much value for the dollars spent. I wouldn't mind the surface pro 2 if the trackpads on the keyboards were bigger and usable - I have my Surface Pro 1 from Feb till last week, loved it, but I do a lot of work at home with remote sessions to servers, so need the keyboard and trackpad, and that thing on my lap was an abomination.

Each thing out there has some sacrifice you have to make in order to get it (with the YP2 it's the lack of a digitizer for me). But since nothing has everything, when you get right down to it, I can't find anything that's a viable replacement for the YP2 at this point in time for the things I do...

I think Bitlocker requires a TPM chip which the Y2P does not have.

PGP (now Symantec) Drive Encryption might be another one to investigate. I used it successfully some years ago but have no idea of the current state of the product or whether it can be made to work on a Y2P.

Hm, I did not notice that before... I'm sure it's very practical but I can imagine that would be very frustrating in special cases.. I'll be interested to learn how to turn that off as well.

It's interesting what things give people issues. For my use, I can't imagine wanting to use the virtual keyboard when the real one is available, nor can I think of any reason I would be wanting to use a digital pen OTHER than working with photo editing. So the viability of the virtual keyboard is a non-issue for the way I work. Obviously your mileage may vary.

Additionally, since I do use a Wacom tablet for photo editing, I simply load the tablet drivers and work that way with the Wacom. I don't see any real value to a digital pen for other tasks, but I'm an old dinosaur and maybe I just don't get it.

With the RDP manager - are you guys able to get it to scale both ways? The one thing I miss the most from the Mac I just migrated off of is CORD, the best RDP program I've ever used. I could specify "1920x1080" as the remote server's resolution and that's what it displayed no matter how large or small I dragged the window. With MS's RDP I found a line to edit in the RDP file to allow scalling when dragging the window SMALLER, but for example if I make the resolution "1920x1080" it's still a small fraction of my screen and a bear to see the text unless my face is right up by the screen. And I can scale that smaller keeping that resolution but if I drag the window bigger, it just puts black around it.

Same problem with the "Terminals" program (open source similar to the RDP manager), and so far my playing with RDP manager has the same issues - I can drag it smaller and maintain the aspect ratio and the resolution I specified, but I can't drag it bigger.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi everyone. Been reading this thread for the past couple of weeks - really helpful info here. I've had my Y2P for just over two weeks and I'm really loving it. But here's my issue:

I'm an audiophile / videophile and I constantly play my music / videos from my laptops (now my Y2P) through HDMI to my 7.1 system, which displays up to my 1920 x 1080 television. I use one media player for everything (J River Media Center). I know this has been covered a little bit already, but at full res on the Y2P, when I switch over to output to my 7.1 at 1080p, the display on the Y2P (and therefore tv screen / media player) turns awful. I can't deal with working on the Y2P with my music playing when it gets like this. So I've had to resort to using the Y2P at the 1920 x 1080 res, which is a bummer.

    Is there any way:
    1) profile / account switching can happen where the Y2P resolution can keep and switch to and from Full Res and 1080p automatically with all the size settings saved for each profile / account?
    2) I'm not a tech geek by any means, so I'm wondering if there's anything I'm missing that I could do to remedy this?
    3) Or is just something I'll have to deal with until the 4k TV's start to roll out?

Thanks for the feedback / input. Hopefully I explained clearly enough what my issue is.

Well I rolled the dice and got lucky. My original Y2P came with a little chip out of the back which although small annoyed me. I debated on returning it since everything else was good and was concerned I might get a lemon. Well I went ahead and exchanged it today and no light bleed, dead pixels or chips - so yay!

P.S., This unit came with Windows 8.1 already installed. I think my original one came with 8.0 (not sure, please confirm anyone) so this must be a VERY new unit.

    More on the shipping issues:

Lenovo chat: You have been connected to Dartanion S. in Raleigh, North Carolina.

With the Yoga 2 Pro being our newest and most popular system, we are experiencing shipping delays. All Lenovo orders are subject to delay due to either a part constraint or no supply. I can offer you 5% of your bill as a refund or in the form of accessories to compensate for the loss of time. Unfortunately, your order has not invoiced yet. With your order not having been invoiced, I am unable to provide your invoice date and number, which is a requirement on the refund request. Once your order invoices (when you receive shipping confirmation of your order), please contact Lenovo and request the 5% refund. I will notate your account accordingly, so there will be no delays in processing of the refund request.

So what is the downside to purchasing from bestbuy instead of Lenovo direct? Return policy is 15 days instead of 30?
With a new 30 day delay on my order I am considering having the local store order one instead!

The only thing stopping me right now is that Lenovo gave me the price of $1099 and the bestbuy price is $1199... any way to apply the coupon at bestbuy?

Thanks so much for this. I asked about this like 30 pages back, I'm so glad you saw the question posed today and posted these. I haven't been able to get a clear answer on the state of Linux + touch from anyone - I think not many people see how advantageous touchscreens are yet. Personally, if I were a programmer, getting gnome (or whatever) fluent in touch would be a wonderful task.

Well the EMAIL4YOGA2PRO or whatever that one was is the coupon which I presented to my sales rep (I ordered using the chat) but actually I think he may have added some miscellaneous discount since that coupon only gets you to $1199

    Hey guys,

I got my skinomi brushed steel skin and screen protector kit and applied to my y2p and it's awesome!

the skins cover lid, bottom, sides, front, around keyboard, even on the hinge, and hinges. I put right over the stickers, just took a picture of the stickers on the back prior to applying in case I need the info in the future, don't want to have to remove skin to get to it. Screen protector is nice, doesn't hinder the touch sensitivity at all, it's a wet application (spray) so just wipe off the access water on the edges, and you may want to wait an hour or two before turning on and using as the bubbles need time to settle. Overall skinomi stuff is great! Pics below.

Thanks for that on the Skinomi. I was curious as to how much it covered. I will be getting the carbon fiber one and only put it on the back and lid. I like the material the keyboard area is made of. I'll just remove any sticker from my Y2P and just stick them in the back of my warranty book.

We were just talking about the Skinomi skins last night and were wondering how much they covered. Definitely more than their pictures indicate. Skinomi makes good quality skins and looks like yours fits to the edges really well. I wish they offered some less masculine options (yep I'm a girl). I'm happy with my DecalRUs skin (blue carbon fiber) but would have liked to have a screen protector too.

I saw your post with the blue carbon fiber skin, looks great! I've used skinomi before and like their products, but I too wish they had more options for colors/patterns on their skins. I was worried about the screen getting scratched since I'll be using in tablet and tent mode alot, and also wanted to cover the laptop lid, bottom and around the keyboard, I actually really like the look of the y2p as is, but applied skinomi for protection more than anything. If i get tired of it, perhaps I'll grab a DecalRUs to give it a different flavor. =)

Skinomi is on sale at Amazon for $18.95 I believe, great deal for skin + screen protector. I'm going Carbon Fiber and I do see that Skinomi covers all surfaces and DOES DO LOGO CUTOUTS which is a big deal to me.

    Hi everyone
I'm quite interested in this new laptot but I also have a few questions first. I want to buy what I would call the "basic model" of the Yoga pro 2 : http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Ordinateurs/showdetl.cfm?product_id=4906147#xtor=AL-47-35[comparateur-cpc]-60008[shopping]-[shopping] (yes, I'm french)
I have hesitated with the asus transformer book tx 300 but I think the lenovo is definitely better : do you agree ?

Here are my two questions :
    1) What about the battery ? I read lenovo said it was up to 9 hours... Is it so ? During the day, I will use this computer for my study. So I have to have a laptop that will last a whole day (7, 9 hours?) with brightness quite low and for tasks like word or excel. Do you think it will be the case ?

    2) I also want to have fun on this computer. Do you think it will run some games ? Of course I know it's not its purpose. But still... With such a configuration, will I be able to play games such as : counter strike, team fortress, left for dead, the sims 3...?

I think this is all : Thank you very much, dear users of the lovo pro 2 :)

Is your touchpad surface starting to wear away already? Looks like it from the pic.

My shipping date, originally Nov 19 and then changed to Jan 1, is now back to Nov 18. So I guess there's hope...

Does the skin really come apart right down the middle?? Above and below the keyboard and touchpad? I've never seen a skin do that... Am I interpreting it incorrectly from the pictures? Seems such an odd choice for what should otherwise be a seamless look as much as possible.

I've had really poor experience with Skinomi screen protectors in past, but I know many people have great experiences with them and highly recommend them. Anyway, I frequently use a privacy screen filter, so I figure it's best for me not to have anything on my screen (let's the privacy filter stick directly to the screen, and protects much of it that way anyway.

My impression of the Decalrus skin is that it also covers the touchpad, where a lot of wear seems to be most apparent.

So, without having either skin in hand, it looks to me like with Skinomi you get screen protector, sides protected, a slit down the middle, logo cutout; and with Decalrus you get touchpad protector, no logo cutout. I wonder how the textures compare.

Thank you to those posting photos; it's really helpful.

I don't know where Lenovo got that 9 hours number from, but it certainly was not on a production Yoga 2 Pro. I average about 6 hours of batter life with about moderate resource/CPU usage. You can get over 7 hours with lighter use or by dropping the resolution of the display to 1080 or lower.

I have not tried any of those games on my Y2P, but I don't think you will have any problem running them. So far, I have been impressed with how well games run on the Intel 4400 GPU, just don't expect to be able to turn up the detail levels on 3D games.

Yes, mine was delayed, then ended up shipping a few days after the original date. It left Japan today and is supposed to get to me in Ohio Thursday!
