I think that it is. I personally wouldn't like to be hauling stuff around(the extra drive for example) I think that it's ALWAYS better to have more RAM than less RAM. BTW RAM is not upgradable.

I hear you. If money is the issue, then I think that you don't need that much RAM, unless you are going to be running some intensive applications. I would buy that configuration too! Heck, some people might think that a college student on a budget shouldn't be getting a laptop worth more than $1000. Cheers.

I saw someone say that their Yoga came out of their bag like a hot Iron, but now I can't find it. I was wondering if this person had their settings on sleep or hibernate mode? I want to avoid that! thanks.

Yes. Something is wrong. I blow some compress air though the vents just in case, and I let it cool down for a couple of hours. Five minutes after I turned it back on, the center vent that is between the fan vents, was warm to the touch, it continued getting warmer and after 15 minutes of use the fans kicked in (peaty quite by the way). After 40 minutes it was hot, and the heat had expanded 2 inches from the center vent. In other words the area that feels hot is a little bit longer than the vent by 2 inches. I think something is wrong with the heat sink.

That person had the laptop in sleep mode and before putting the laptop in the backpack he/she put it in sleeve. After being extra cautious and wrapping the baby in a couple of blankets, the baby almost suffocated.
Also if you use a mouse, make sure that is not set to wake up the computer.

Always buy more RAM! Especially if you have any interest at all in pushing the 3D capability of the system. Remember that the Intel 4400 graphics is a "shared memory" system, so if you're gaming or doing heavy 3D of some sort, it can use up to 2GB of system RAM. So a 4GB Y2P would be 2GB of RAM plus 2GB of "video memory" in the worst case, where an 8GB Y2P is going to be 6GB of RAM (THREE times as much, not just twice) plus 2GB of video memory.

And as others have noted, it's not upgradable so, srs, pay the extra $100.

The same goes for the SSD really, because again the base overhead of a full Windows install (plus endless bloat from updates) means that you get a lot more than 2x out of doubling the SSD size.

    PF.

There are some slim lap pad/desk in the market that, although not specifically designed for what you want it, it might still work. If not maybe you already have something around the house that is about that size and is light and firm to use it under the keyboard so the pressure is even all around. Good Luck.

I have a quick question: How is Chrome (latest stable version) working out for you all? I have resolution at 3200 x 1800, text at 200% in Windows, zoom at 100% in Chrome and HiDPI and touch options to Automatic in chrome flags. With that, the scrolling is rather poor and all the tabs get cramped to the left of the top of the Chrome frame. Is this normal? Since Chrome is my most used application, I am trying to make this a better experience.

    Thanks.

Edit: Also, the Yoga 13 touchpad driver felt fast and fluent yesterday but now it's a little sluggish at times (in general, not just in Chrome) and fails to register some times so I have to drag the finger again. Anyone seeing this? Thanks

I have those issues using stable Chrome in Win 8 mode, but I run it solely via the desktop and things are fine. My settings are nearly identical to yours. Chrome Canary behaved quite oddly after enbabling HiDPI support, so I switched back to the default and it's been quite usable, as well.

Don't use touchpad much and can't comment on that.

Edit: Maybe if I'd tried enabling instead of enbabling it woulda worked. ;)

I am trying to tweak the settings right now to get a little more battery life and had the "network" tab to "maximum battery saving", but my machine started to disconnect itself from my router, so I had to go back to "maximum performance" mode. It looks like I'm going to get about 6 hours with light use, after under volting, power balance mode, brightness 50%, dimmed display brightness 60%, and everything else set to maximum battery saving on the power balance mode profile. My daughter did play some games(nothing intensive, just games like cut the rope) for about an hour and I have surfed the web after that. The light on the keyboard has been on most of this time. BIOS update and power management upgrades have been done already on my machine. I'm just trying to get to at least 8hrs like the other person here, but it might take a little more fiddling around!

I'm trying to get where you are at, but I fell short about 2hrs. Maybe because there was some light gaming done for about an hour? or maybe the "balance mode" is a little too hungry? I did the under volting already. I think that I'm going to try the "stable mode" next.

Edit: I had not disabled DPTF in the BIOS settings, so my I was not under volting, since my settings had reverted to stock. I'll try again tomorrow. Time to go to sleep before my wife blows a seal!

I installed the Yoga 1 driver for the touchpad (the latest one released October 22, 2013) and everything works fine, except I cannot find the setting to reverse the two finger scrolling as has been mentioned on this thread. I've been through all the synaptics device settings.

Any advice on where to find the setting, or am I off base?

In that case you should be fine.

So, does your yoga gets warm? I was planing to use mine on my laptop a lot, but it gets warm to the point that is unconformable to have it in my lap, also I put it in stand mode to play a video when I was laying on my bed, and then the keyboard started to get very warm in my lap too, I'm so disappointed :(
Also the charger gets super hot.

It gets warm, but not to the point that it's going to burn me, like it sounds in your case. The charger gets warm but not to the point that you describe. I'm sorry that you're having issues!

Try to set your settings like I did, disable DPTF in BIOS and you'll reach 7 hours even with light gaming. Also do not put the battery in Conservation mode as this reduces the battery run time, keeps battery level to 60% max to preserve the battery's quality.

Anyone's using the Y2P for processing real-time audio like with Native Instruments Traktor?

Would like to know if this laptop can run Traktor without audio drop-outs or stutters...
Just too many new laptops suffer from the issue of having conflicts with processes and drivers which result in latency issues and causing drop-outs...

They are decent pc's but just not suited for live performance....

You can customize the modes in Windows. I don't how it is with the Yoga's energy manager but if it doesn't allow to do that, it would pretty ridiculous.

It's nearly same for me, except ship date is January 1st (yeah, right). It already got pushed back once. It was supposed to be 2013/12/23.

Anyone using Photoshop??? If so, how are you dealing with the microscopic interface and is there a way to change it?

Also, I ordered my Yoga 2 / i7 / 256GB / 8GB RAM / Orange on 11/14/13 through the Lenovo site and received it on 11/20/13 :). Not sure why others are receiving such long delays on theirs.

Hey guys, glad to join the ranks of those who own this innovative and powerful little machine. I originally ordered one from Lenovo.com (the top level config with the 512 GB SSD) around 10/16 with an estimated ship date of 11/11; when I logged in a week later to view the order status, it had been pushed back to 11/28 without any notification to me. Needless to say, I was pretty ticked, and when bestbuy.com restocked the $1199 version that was the same as what I originally ordered except that it had a 256 GB drive and was $400 cheaper, I jumped on that and received it around 11/16. So I've had it for a week and I'm pretty impressed, but I had some basic questions that I was hoping to get some clarification on:

    1) The screen resolution. Can someone recommend an optimal setting if I'm going to scale down the resolution? I've read a lot on here and elsewhere that it's mostly the third-party, older legacy programs which will have a microscopic appearance under this resolution; however, the latest version of Adobe Reader X has the same problem, as does Microsoft Word 2010 (this mostly works fine, but there are a few elements that are just way too tiny, i.e. when you create a table in a document, the icon that appears by the table upper-left corner and mouse pointers when you're manipulating the table). I tried changing the res to 1920 or 1600, but things still appeared a little funny. What would make my Y2P look like a normally scaled desktop?

    2) Can people recommend whether to install the BIOS update and energy management program that were released around the 13th? I'm assuming my machine didn't ship with them, and I'm wondering if there's any drawbacks. Also, did Lenovo not include a program on their machines to download and install their own updates such as these? It seems that they didn't, which is surprising given the bloatware they included (i.e. McAfee and Yoga Chef)

    3) I've noticed sometimes when switching between apps that the display dims or brightens a bit, with a noticeable effect; is this normal?

I think that's about it. This is just an observation on my part: was trying the Y2P in tablet mode and the exposed keyboard seems to be an issue. I may have put too much pressure on the ESC key because I noticed the next day in laptop mode, one corner of the key was not flush with the keyboard. Pushing the key down with a little force seemed to resolve it when I heard a 'click' noise, but I'd be reluctant to try tablet mode again based on this.

Thanks for any insight on the above (and will post again if any more questions come to mind)

For some reason, Future Shop in Québec only sells a version that's not available on the Lenovo website, a 128GB SSD with 8GB ram + i5. I don't want only 128GB :S

    FS has 3 models/configs:

    i5/128 ssd/4gb
    i5/128 ssd/8gb
    i7/256 ssd/8gb

Best Buy only has the i5/128 ssd/8gb

But yeah, if they had the i5/256 ssd/8gb, I'd probably cancel my Lenovo order and buy it from FS even though they don't have it in orange.

In French there's only the 128/8gb option. I want it in French but anyway, it's the only one available here, they're not allowed to sell English.

    Plugged in, NOT charging...

Just purchased a Y2P last night and I'm enjoying it so far.

I have used it on and off the adapter over the past 24 hours getting software installed and currently the battery indicator says 95% available (Plugged in, not charging.)

I have been using Windows 8.1 for a while and this is new to me. I expected it to charge to 100%. Is this due to some power management setting? I did some Googling but that only made me more confused. Any help would be appreciated!

Try using the Y2P on battery to 50% and then charging it fully. See if that causes the battery to go to 100%.

I've seen situations where there is a natural decay of power in the battery and the system does not click in to charge it to 100% (perhaps a calibration issue).

Are you saying that disabling DPTF actually increases battery life? My assumption was that this...thing, whatever it is, somehow regulates the performance of your computer in order to conserve battery.

You know, the one thing that really bugs me about the Y2P is that they left out the digitizer stylus. Hey, I used to own a Surface Pro and I rarely even used the damned stylus because my handwriting is so horrible and I can type much faster than I write. But still the thing that annoys me is that the active digitizer would have made the Y2P the PERFECT hybrid. So so so close and Lenovo wiffed at the end.

Maybe putting a digitizer on this particular screen was hard or maybe they were trying to keep it under $1000, but still, it just bugs me. I would rarely use it but having that option would have made me happier.

Oh well, I guess I can hope that someone will make a bluetooth stylus with palm rejection for something other than the iPad. I get so sick of seeing something I want, getting excited to buy it then seeing those dreaded words, "works only with iPad..." Gaaa!

I am ordering my Y2P tomorrow and want to get a case for it.

The obvious first choice is the Lenovo Slot-In Case, but I am not sure if that is the best on the market. I like the look and protection that MBP cases provide, but not sure if I will get anywhere near the functionality of the Slot-In.

    Any suggestions/opinions?

I'm not too sure, but in my case I'm disabling it so that my undervolting sticks when I reboot. Also, this prevents your CPU from being throttled in any other mode than laptop mode.

Hey, so I have an Asus VS247H-P 23.6-Inch Full-HD LED-Lit LCD Monitor and I just bought a Rocketfish micro-hdmi to hdmi cable. Whenever I connect it to the monitor, it just flickers with lots of red lines and keeps going on and off. Anything I can do to fix it? What settings do I need to use?

FWIW, I checked out the Y2P at Best Buy tonight again and this time set its resolution down to 1920x1080 and adjusted scaling to 100%. It looked much better than I expected! Overall looked pretty good. I'm just not sure I like the idea of buying such a machine with such a high res screen that has to be adjusted down to be usable with remote desktop and other programs, waiting and hoping that better support for hi res screens will come sooner than later.

I then drove to Frys and checked out the Thinkpad Yoga. NICE!! I love the build quality and it's native 1920x1080 screen looks great. But, I'm not sure I can deal with going smaller than the yoga! 12.5" is just a little too small. Not sure why they decided to make the TP version smaller. The build quality really is great though. But I have read about the digitizer issues which is a bit concerning. I also like the Ultranav eraser head.

If not for the multi-mode feature of these machines, I'd be going with a 15.6" laptop with 1080p or better, as light and thin as possible, think ASUS Zenbook or Ativ 8.

Still a bit confused. I'll probably check out the TPY again tomorrow. :)

Yes, that's what I'm doing, and I am 100% happy with it. I sure don't see any "degradation" by using less than the screen's native resolution -- it's still essentially the best notebook screen I've ever used, and I love it! I'm far happier with it than I ever was with using a higher resolution and then trying to scale things, since some things just don't scale at all.

I just wanted to follow up on this problem. I had the same exact issue, about the same time. Very frustrating as I hadn't even had it a month yet!

I sent it in to Lenovo's repair center and 10 days later, it's back. If anyone else is having this issue and isn't sure what is causing the noise, the repair sheet that came back with it said it was a malfunctioning heatsink fan.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how quickly and easily the process was - never having done something like this before I was nervous about the speed and quality. The only minor complaint is a very faint scratch across the top of my lid. You really have to look hard to find it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when I send it in, but I also have a 2-yr old that is surprisingly ninja-like.

Asking again - Hey, so I have an Asus VS247H-P 23.6-Inch Full-HD LED-Lit LCD Monitor and I just bought a Rocketfish micro-hdmi to hdmi cable. Whenever I connect it to the monitor, it just flickers with lots of red lines and keeps going on and off. Anything I can do to fix it? What settings do I need to use?

And is the micro-hdmi to hdmi cable capable of running the monitor at its highest possible resolution?

I have said this from the beginning, but there are some people that do not agree. Also, like I have said before too, it's very subjective and you have to experience it for yourself and not rely on someone else's eyes.

Um...I beg to differ sir. I am the proud owner of a Flip 13A i7 and I completely disagree. Following Franek's advice ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...erformance-battery-life-vaio-flip-others.html ) I have achieved complete fan silence

The viewing angles are great, and the hinge is only stiff if you are a weakling ;) Screen definitely DOES NOT deform when writing....I would've returned it if it did. And the sharp edges are an added benefit, now I don't need to take a cheese cutter with me to school

Greetings from a Yoga 2 Pro owner in his 31st hour of convertible contentment!

After wrestling with Best Buy and its inane international credit card policy for a week (and speaking with customer service hotline numerous times, I got a text from my local Lenovo contact, saying that the Y2P was finally available in the country. Granted, it was more expensive than the Best Buy, but it was a fair trade for the instantaneous purchase, hassle-free warranty, and personal service. I think I got the first consumer model in the entire country, actually.

This is my first ultrabook-- I've been rocking an Acer TimelineX 4820TG for the past three years (glad to know you're still around, Bronsky!), and it's high time for a change.

Installed the BIOS and the energy manager, and while the yellow isn't as good as I'd have liked, it's still leagues better than the eyesore that the laptop it shipped with.

    Google is your friend:

Yoga 2 Pro won't display on External Screen (thru ... - Lenovo Community

This seems to be a design flaw, i.e. the micro HDMI port on the Y2P is too recessed for most HDMI cables to be able to establish a stable connection. Looks like Lenovo "forgot" to leave a cutout in the left edge rubber bumper to allow the micro HDMI to be inserted fully. So buy a cheap cable and "carve" some of the rubber off to make the male connector longer.

I haven't received my Y2P so perhaps those who have it and have tried connecting the Y2P to their tv or an external monitor can chime in.

If this is indeed a design flaw, it's unacceptable on a $1,000 machine...
