Are you playing this in full screen mode? Everytime I have started this game I either get a small square or if I adjust the resolution to make it a full screen the text is so tiny because of the large resolution. If you are running at a smaller res at full screen with civ 5 please let me know what you did, thanks.

I have a Linksys E2500 wireless-N router and haven't had any of the dropout issues over wifi. My company uses good ol' Linksys WAP54G access points in the offices and I haven't had any connection issues with those either. I may have gotten a Y2P that just happens to work, but it wouldn't surprise me if the connection issues that others are experiencing are router related.

Anybody has Problem with Scrolling while Screen Res is set to 1080p (FullHD btw. 1920x1080)??? Get some strange Bugs with Touchpanel AND Touchpad.
by the way: Finally installed dualband wireless-ac 7260 network-card and it works like a harm)

Plenty of discussion on cases in this thread at the Lenovo forum:
Yoga 2 Pro Case/Sleeve Options - Lenovo Community
I went with a Timbuk2 Custom Sleeve (you can pick the colors), but there are cheaper/prefab options mentioned in that thread that protect well:

Ok, this was a little weird and scary.
My fan has always been silent other than the soft rush or air when it is running. But this morning for some reason, the fan started making this weird whirring grindy sort of noise and kept spinning up then spinning down, up then down, up then down. I was like what the heck is THAT?!
So I rebooted the machine and now no problem.
Will have to keep an eye on this in case it is a developing issue. Hope not, this is my 3rd Y2P and I would really like to keep it. Everything else about it is perfect so far.
Anyone else experience anything like this?
** A Tip: Be careful if you are watching Netflix or anything like that in bed that you keep the fan ports pointed up and away from the covers. Last night I made the mistake of having them pointed down and the blanket blocked the outward air flow. My Y2P got VERY hot. I was worried with the fan noise this morning that I had broken something. Fortunately whatever that was seems to have gotten better. -
I just got the yoga 2 pro i7 on a hurry as my old laptop died : (, and am having a few issues. (Sorry for repeating if they have been addressed prior.)
1) The text looks jagged, is it because of the resolution? pentile? windows 8? anyways, how to make it more bearable? I played around with cleartype and font scaling and it is not helping.
2) The laptop gets a bit warmer then I would like, any way to increase the fans?
3) Sometimes when I open the laptop, the touchpad doesn't work. Closing the lid and opening it again seems to fix it. -

Hello,
I just got a Canadian version of the Yoga 2 Pro and I'm having some trouble with shift key only capitalizing some letters and not the other
For example while holding left shift i can't type ASDF. When using an external keyboard I don't have this problem. On screen keyboard works fine too.
Did you anyone else run into a similar issue? -
Can you switch to a US keyboard layout and try the same thing?
It shouldn't make a difference, but if it does, it may be the language setup that causes problems. -
I had the Canadian English keyboard layout originally but removed it and switched to US English, without any changes.
I've called Lenovo tech support, they tried to remove the keyboard from Device Manager, and restarted the computer and it didn't change anything, that took 30 minutes and I had to leave, they suggested to do a full restore.
-
Really weird. Hopefully it remains in good shape. Have no idea what caused the strange temporary behavior. -
Perhaps it was doing some updating behind the scenes? That's no excuse for the fan "grinding" noise...
-
-
I use HWiNFO64 to get the temps in the taskbar... other info can be displayed in real time.

After playing with the keyboard some more there seems to be a weird delay which is causing this issue. If I want to have to type A I have to press shift and a for 5 seconds before the letter is typed. For Z it is typed right away.

My desktop fans can grind a bit on occasion. I just give the box a whack and it stops. I think that the fan somehow becomes unbalanced and starts to "wobble". Maybe this caused the whole issue? The wobbling fan sent warning signals to the BIOS cooling setup and it overcompensated?
Who knows, but fans has been quiet now for hours. Very odd. -
For those who are interested in using a custom ICC color profile for their Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro display, here's a copy of mine:
1. Requires the BIOS update for the "lenovo yellow" correction.
2. Do not use adaptive brightness (it varies the brightness, rendering the colors differently).
3. Set the brightness to 70% (assuming all displays are close to mine in specs; this is the setting at which I calibrated).
4. Copy the file into c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\color.
If you have questions on how to implement the profile, see this awesome link: Display Calibration for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1/Attached Files:

The effect was subtle, but it was there. I can see it impacting the color of the background as Windows loads. The result is more neutral, as it should be.
For the record, I'm a calibration freak... as I do photography editing.
The color profile has no impact on running any software.duttyend likes this. -

In the very moment you select this profile as default profile for your screen you should see an immediate change of colours. Not much, but kind of warmer than default. Copying the file to system folder is not necessary, just click it and it will install automatically there.

The ICC profile was generated using a colorimeter.
The profile can be used as default and it can be removed if you don't like the outcome (simply remove the color profile).
The installation is simple and, for the first time, follow the instructions on the link I provided. This is in case your setup of Windows does not allow for a persistent user profile to be used.
Either way, no reboot is necessary and everything is reversible. This is completely by the rules. -
I did not know it would copy it automatically... Learned something new!

LOL, that looks as good as my work monitor can display
Obviously, the proper way to do it is to calibrate each and every display individually.
Again, that profile is set to run at 70% brightness. -
-
Really everybody, we have paid for a NEW computer with a SUPER display.
Are you happy with the results of all these instructions?
I followed every single step, and no matter what the color is mustard and not yellow. It might just have improved slightly.
Even highlighting something in Word or Acrobat looks ridiculous.
IF YOU COULD take it back now wouldn't you do so?
Personally I am seriously thinking to take it back to Best Buy since I still can do that, although I have spent some time to set it up. -
Did you update the BIOS/Energy Manager software?
That in itself will make a difference. -
-
Looks better with that profile - thanks UncleSpam.
After playing around with various resolutions and scaling etc over the past few weeks, I've fixed on 3200x1800. Aside from it being native res, I spend 90% of my day in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 2013, plus a bit of Firefox.
Although I can save around two hours at 1920, I'm on power and for most of the day so I'm not really losing anything given how nice Office 2013 and 3200 is in general.
Now, my last hurdle: I can't figure out how to get Media Player or VLC to scale buttons. Maybe I'm searching for the wrong terms, and maybe VLC is a no-go, but surely Windows Media Player shouldn't suffer from tiny controls at 3200? Is there another media player that I can use (out of touch having had an MBA for 5 years).
Overall, after almost a month since switching from OSX on a MacBook Air, I am a happy user. Win 8.1 takes some adjusting to but the screen is no competition. Similarly, OSX gave me 7 hours battery but Win 7 was four at best, so the Y2P is very much an upgrade.
Thanks to all contributors in this thread - I've learned a lot -
I find 2048 x 1152 95% as good as 3200 x 1800 and no scaling issues, especially with external monitors. The only thing that suffers at all is Word 2013 because MS broke cleartype font smoothing.

Is Wacom Digitizer really worth an extra $400 on the ThinkPad Yoga?
Right now you can get the i5 128 Yoga 2 Pro at BestBuy for $899 (simply incredible deal). The same configuration of the ThinkPad Yoga with Wacom on the Lenovo website is $1299. Ouch. $400 for a pen with smaller screen and lower resolution and heavier, thicker body?
I think I'll stick with my microfiber mesh 4mm stylus and terrycloth wipe (to block palm) for taking notes - actually works quite well (and keeps the screen clean).
Have no idea whether BestBuy plans to carry the Thinkpad Yoga for a cheaper price. Of course that would change things.
Nevertheless, pound for pound, feature for feature the Y2P continues to reign supreme as the best value in the hybrid/convertible space.
** One additional advantage of using this mesh tip stylus is that writing is completely silent as opposed to a digitizer which "clicks" every time you touch the screen. I highly recommend the microfiber mesh style as the writing is so smooth. 4mm is the smallest tip I could find and seems to work well for very natural handwriting.
Here's the one I use (just $12):

One thing I have noticed about resolution on the Y2P. Even if you dial it down to 1920 x 1080 it is still far sharper than any other screen this size at 1920 x 1080. I am thinking this is because whatever the resolution, the screen pixels are just denser on the Y2P.
Would be curious to hear from someone who understands such things on how that works. -
Sorry for the dumb question, but do I need to install any software or any other thing I need to know before I order the stylus you suggested. I don't take any notes but it will be nice to have suh capability if it just for $12
-
No, the stylus is basically a replacement for your finger (minus the fingerprints). You can't pinch-zoom with the stylus, as it requires two devices/fingers, but for most touch operations, it's very useful.
I have three styli that I've used with my tablets and they all work fine. I find the mesh tip to work better than the rubbery kind.
The example shown above is the mesh kind and has a pen as well... -
Thats true, I got mine yesterday and I can already see a lot of fingerprints on the screen when it's off. Perhaps will buy some screen protector also, any insight which one is easy to use. Also out of curiosity if we can use the stylus on Y2P then what's different in Thinkpad yoga with stylus?
Just for sharing: when the laptop starts (dark-screen) I can see the LED back-light at the bottom. I didn't see it when I am watching a dark scene in a movie so it doesn't bother me yet but I will keep an eye on it.
-
The difference is that the stylus we need to use is very thick, to simulate the human finger.
The Thinkpad Yoga has a Wacom digitizer which allows you to use much finer tips AND it's pressure sensitive, allowing you to create thicker lines by adding more pressure when drawing... so basically much more control.
The Wacom digitizer features are not such an advantage for an operating system interface, but they help greatly if you want to create computer art (given compatible software).
IPS displays do show some light bleeding (bottom edge in the case of the Y2P)... this is normal.
I also see it at the LENOVO logo boot-up screen and that's it! -
Glad I got this at Bestbuy! Anything you buy after Thanksgiving to Christmas they let you return no restocking fee up until January 15th. I think I'm leaning on keeping it though. Just upgrade my router to AC and waiting on the new Intel chip to swap out on it. Also waiting on a custom Timbuk2 sleeve.

Thanks good to know the difference between the Wacom digitizer and normal stylus
-
The primary differences you will notice between a "dumb" stylus and an "smart" active digitizer stylus are as follows:
1) The active digitizer provides palm rejection - i.e., you can rest your palm on the screen as you write. The "dumb" stylus does not allow for this; however, simply placing a terrycloth screen wipe beneath your palm as you take notes achieves the same purpose.
2) Active digitizers typically allow for many levels of pressure allowing you to create thick or thin lines depending upon how hard you press. This makes them preferable for artists but if you are simply taking notes it wouldn't really matter.
3) Dumb styli are actually better for navigating around your screen, swiping, etc as the computer sees it as your finger. Active digitizers are usually not that great for swiping, etc, except for the Samsung Brand which works well.
4) If you are going with the dumb styli, get one with a 4mm tip or less and get microfiber. Bigger tips are too hard to write with and rubber tips are too squishy and wear out.
5) For super fine work the active digitizer is better but for just writing the dumb styli is fine.
6) The mesh tip on the dumb styli allows for silent writing. An active digitizer clicks when touching the screen and could annoy those around you.
7) Active digitizers typically have buttons like a mouse.
That's pretty much it.
Here is sample of notes written with the stylus I recommended above. Other than my poor handwriting you get the idea (click the image to enlarge).
