I think there was a recommendation to keep the Yoga plugged in as much as possible to extend battery life, is this correct advice?
Incidentally, the forum's thread search appears to be worthless - a search for "battery" comes up with no matches.
-
I keep my devices/computers plugged in... normally. My phone would be the exception (during the day), but I dock it at night.

On the Lenovo Energy Manager the options, instead of check boxes, have horizontal sliders with two positions: one is grey with a circle and one is red with a straw.
The slider can move left and right. When the slider moves to the circle, the straw is displayed, and the other way around.
Which of these means the option is checked?
Let us go by color. Does "red" mean checked or unchecked?
By default all options, except scheduled charging, are grey.
Thanks -
It's pretty universal that 1 means on and 0 means off. Or am I missing something?
-
I've been using it mostly plugged in, but then a message popped up: "Keeping battery above 70% is adverse to battery health. Turn on Conservation mode."
I think conservation mode keeps it at 50-60%, is that what you'd recommend? -
Put on the conservation mode. If not you will see battery wear very quickly. As I said earlier, the battery of my Samsung 9 lost over 30% within a year without it!

Slider on the I side with O showing, or slider on the O side with I showing? Grey or red?

Does anyone know if is possible to get three finger tap working? I've got two finger working using some registry hacks, but three finger is really buggy. It takes 5-6 tries to get it to register...

Thank you.

Hey guys. I know this isn't really related to the yoga, but have any of you used or found any good windows 8 apps in the store? Just looking for some cool apps that might be useful. Maybe if my laptop would ever arrive, I wouldn't have to ask -_-
-
Oh also. Has anyone used the razor orochi bluetooth mouse with the yoga and should I buy additional virus protection or has the windows protection gotten better? If I should buy better virus software...recommendations?
-
Windows defender works well enough. The old Microsoft security essentials is now integrated into Windows defender I believe.

I stick to defender also. Installed Avast on several of my computers and only one ran hassle-free, all the others started behaving strangely.

Anyone care to explain how I can completely disable and remove McAfee?
-
Anyone else get the expedited shipping email from Lenovo? Very nice!
Although... Mine left the facility yesterday afternoon (my time) but UPS says it's not arriving until Thursday, which is more time than expedited shipping
Any chance it might get here faster? It left Anchorage last night at midnight Alaskan time, I'm in Montréal. Arrived in Kentucky at 10AM!
-
Hi
Download the removal tools from McAfee and uninstall with that. Should fully clean everything, register included.
Don't forget to reboot once you're done. A cold boot is best.

Your color profile is amazing, UncleSpam. Thank you very much.
I've found a strange solution to the touchpad highlighting problem. When letting go, you need to touch the pad with two fingers, and the highlight will stick instead of disappearing. It's definitely not ideal. I'm not sure which of the sensitivity options to tweak-- I'm usng the Yoga 13 drivers at the moment, which solve every issue with the Y2P touchpad drivers except this one. I'll try the generic Synaptics drivers next. -
How do I turn conservation mode on (what menu)? Thanks.

What is everyone's experience like with wifi and bluetooth? Mine has been mixed. Bought the N700 wireless mouse from Lenovo and it paired right away. No problems over the first few days, but now I have problems getting it to connect and to stay connected. Also, my wifi experience was great initially as well, now it's extremely slow. I've got Verizon Fios (58Mbps down, 39Mbps up) and don't have any issues connecting to my network with other devices??? Maybe I inadvertently changed a setting on my Yoga thats causing this.
Any thoughts? -
Energy Manager > Press the Menu/list type icon in top-right area > Settings
Had constant disconnects with bluethooth devices until I disabled the power management tick box (in Device Manager > Bluetooth > Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + HS Adapter > Power Management tab > Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ) -
Can anybody confirm the maximum resolution via the microHDMI source? I checked the answered questions on Lenovo's site but their responses were somewhat unclear. One of their "Product Experts" said it can support two external monitors with a splitter and that it does not support 4K, but the closest thing to an answer for maximum resolution was "up to 1080p," which just doesn't make sense to me.
If it is really only able to support up to 1080p externally, does that work for both monitors? If so, why can't it output 1440/1600p on just one monitor, since that would be fewer pixels? I understand that it's already pushing close to 6 million pixels with the 13" display, but it would be nice if there's any way to get it to run a 1440/1600p monitor. -
I've had mine just about a week and WiFi has been great, getting just over 16Mbps with a supposedly 15Mbps connection, and no disconnects. Streams Netflix fine and loads pages way faster than my HP Dv6 and Macbook Air. Can't wait to get rid of those two now.
Still debating on a bluetooth keyboard/mouse though, so can't help there. -
What are you using to measure your speeds?
-
I don't know the max, but I'm at 2048x1152 on my Dell SP2309W.
-
Anyone willing to sell his laptop?
-
I used both Time Warner's and speedtest.net

Is it just me or is that a rather odd number? Promising though, in any case!

So is it easy to remove the bottom cover and install a bigger SSD? Does it require you to pry with a tool or just pull off the cover after removing the screws? Is 4GB of RAM working out ok for everyday tasks or are you finding you need the 8GB model?
-
I looked at Task Manager after booting up which shows 1.9GB used.
With the remainder I've had no issues here with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 2013 always open, plus 5-10 Firefox tabs. Those are my 'bread and butter' plus various others depending on needs but it never feels sluggish.
If you really need the 8GB then go for it. Otherwise 4GB will be adequate for many users. -
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm thinking 4 gigs will work for me. Bummer I missed the 899 sale at BB last week. I'm going to wait it out a bit and see if it drops down again.

You can get it in 950 at lenovo, if you care for clementine orange, just use student discount

If you are frustrated with the blue tooth mouse I can recommend the Logitech anywhere mouse with the small nub usb thing. You really don't notice the nub and I keep it in when putting in my sleeve. I bought a Microsoft blue tooth mouse and couldn't get it working. it was defective I believe. Bluetooth seems buggy to me. the usb is definitely going to be a more solid signal I would think logically.

Got the same mini-dongle for my Logitech trackball, no hinder and works great

Firefox can run over 1G all by itself, particularly with open gif's. With several programs running, I'm generally at 3-4G.
-
This is probably true. I love my Logitech "unifying" receiver because its so small. One word of caution - for me, if I leave it in my laptop when I put it to sleep, moving the mouse will wake it up. I say that because it seems like a lot of people here sound like they throw their laptops and stuff into a bad constantly during the day, so if you mouse is moving around it will be waking up your Y2P.

Thanks. I followed Kinghu's advice and did the following - works like a charm now!
Had constant disconnects with bluethooth devices until I disabled the power management tick box (in Device Manager > Bluetooth > Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 + HS Adapter > Power Management tab > Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power )radiusmax likes this. -
This WiFi issue is really getting frustrating (to the fact that I may send this thing back if I can't resolve it soon). Just ran a speed test a few minutes ago on speedtest.net and had a download speed of 1.97Mbps and upload of 0.28. Never any disconnects though. In comparison, my 4 year old Dell laptop had a 16Mbps down and a 14 up. The weird thing is that the speed was fine until about 10 days ago. I haven't installed much since then and don't recall changing any of my network settings.
Called Lenovo's tech support and they wanted me to restore the pc to factory settings. It took about 15 hours to get all my programs, add-ons, installed so I really don't want to do that, plus I want to know what caused the issue so it doesn't happen again. The next option they gave me (through an elevated level of tech support) was to have someone remotely control my computer for networking help. i'm okay with that but not at $89 for a one time deal with no support if it happens again. I could pay $179 for a years worth of support but I really don't want to pay for something when I'm within a 30 day window of purchasing this device.
I gave them another option after they gave me those two - return the pc for a full refund. Anyone have any ideas? I really would like to keep the Yoga 2 but this could definitely be a deal breaker. Thanks in advance for any advice/input. -

Toad, One thing that can cause severe slowdown of WIFI speeds is interference from certain bluetooth peripherals. Disable anything bluetooth you have connected to the computer and try the speedtest again. Also, speedtest itself can be quite flaky depending upon the server you select. Try another server nearby and see if you don't get a better result.
-
You could also try another device on the network, either wired or wireless and see if it makes a difference.
If it works fine via ethernet, it could be a Wi-Fi issue.
If it works fine via Wi-Fi, it could be a Y2P issue. -
Thanks. I've tried various speedtests and servers and the results have been the same. I did disable my bluetooth mouse and turned bluetooth off per your suggestion, but that doesn't seem to help either. Streaming from Netflix is almost impossible, loading a webpage is painful - I'll keep looking for the answer and share what I find in case anyone else experiences this. Hope i don't have to return it.
-
Definitely a Y2P problem. Other laptops, tablets, etc. are fast to very fast on the network. Can't believe I'm going to restore this thing to the factory default! Someone help me before I pull the trigger and have to start all over.
-
It could be your router. Others seemed to have success when they got a new router that was optimized for windows 8. Don't know if this will solve your problem though. How old is your router?
-
I do have a new router on order (mine is at least 3 years old). When I first got the Y2P I wasn't having any issues with WiFi speed so I don't think it's the cause. I guess I'll know soon enough though - I'm pretty resigned to restoring this to the factory default.
-
In case this helps anyone:
You asked: Since the micro-HDMI port is able to output up to 1080p resolution, and it's able to support two external monitors, are both monitors able to support 1080p simultaneously?
If so, would it be possible to instead support up to 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 resolution on one monitor, since it would be driving fewer pixels that way?
Product expert Staff: Hi Todd.,
Yes. Both screens can support 1080p simultaneously and this model will be able to support 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 resolution. -
I have a Linksys E1200 router......
My download on Y2P on Comcast speed test is about 13 Mbps down
My Dell desktop hooked directly to the router is 23 Mbps down
the up is about 5 on both...I have Comcast as service...
original modem in unit.. -
You can check your DNS Nameserver setup and choose a dedicated nameserver. Not to sound redundant but just Google setting Nameservers.
Also try setting your encryption algorithm to AES and your security mode to WPA2-PSK.
Here is my DNS Nameserver Settings. I choose dynamic DNS with a nameserver override. This can speed up browsing.
One other thing. Others on another forum have been having some success by changing HTMode which is the thing that determines if your router puts out N only or all bands. Whatever it is set at now try changing it t the other option and see if that helps.
Here's my setup:
-
Ain't it the truth. Unless you do most everything in the cloud, switching to a new PC with a new OS is still a nightmare.
-
I honestly do not believe resetting your Y2P will do anything to solve the problem. Try deleting and re-installing all wifi drivers.
My guess is the problem with with your router setup or you simply have a defective wifi card (which is possible).
