As I mentioned earlier in this thread my wifi would constantly drop out. While it's most likely the modem or router causing the problems with Windows 8.1 compatibility issues, I wanted the issue resolved. After realising M Factors posted to Australia I decided to purchase the Intel AC7260 from them. This is quite a cheap option to upgrade the only possible weakness in this device. So I received the wifi card in the mail today (only 8 days from the US to Australia, pretty impressive getting this close to Christmas) and finished installing it about 10 minutes ago.

This has not only solved the wifi dropout issue, it has also considerably boosted the wifi speeds! This is on a N router, using 5ghz. I am very glad I went with this option as it has turned out to be a wise choice, just as others have described. It was a delicate operation with the antennas; I recommend inserting the card and screwing it in before trying to re-attach the antennas onto the card. Starting from the fan area to pry off the case was a great tip from a member's post earlier in this thread. It was very easy to remove all the screws and the casing, as well as getting it all back on.

Now that my main issue with this device is solved I can say that I'm very pleased with the Y2P. I quite like the travel on the keyboard, as it enables me to type faster. I purchased the Booq Taipan Slim S 13" Laptop bag (which is very good quality & stylish) for carrying the Y2P, charger etc. it cost me $50AUD from an online store in Australia. I am also going to purchase the Targus Ultralife sleeve for travel to/from work. It's half price here in Oz & at $25AUD well worth it at that price.

Agreed. This sounds like the standard tech support advice to reinstall Windows every time there's a problem.

One negative of disabling IPv6 is that this can disable your Home Group as well.

When I first got this Y2P I had to disable IPv6 to get Windows Updates to run. I have now re-enabled it and everything seems to work fine. Who knows? Face it, wifi is magic anyway. I mean, c'mon, 60 mbps flying through the air? Crazy. :)

Yes, please realize that the average front-line "tech-support" person you are speaking to is typically a complete idiot sitting in the Philippines reading from a script who knows less about your computer than you do. Always ask to speak to a Supervisor. Front-line drones are a waste of time.

IPv6 disables your Home Groups? That seems odd. Disabling IPv6 only disables the protocol telling your TCP/IP to look for 128-bit addresses rather than the standard IPv4 and the 32 bit (4-byte) addresses. This is why some people were having trouble with their WiFi. I think less than 2% of people on the net use IPv6 right now. That is just odd....it shouldn't affect anything on the Windows platform software wise.

I would also keep it disabled...as you do not need it for at least a few years. I have seen IPv6 cause problems in the past.

It's not odd at all. Microsoft considers IPv6 a mandatory part of the OS and discourages disabling it. HomeGroup's do in fact use IPv6. See here: IPv6 for Microsoft Windows: Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, IPv6 is used by MS to run Home Groups. You can turn off IPv6 and see if that makes a difference (I've heard of cases where it does...) and then turn it back on to continue using Home Groups.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I tried many of the suggestions mentioned (with no success). I finally decided to "Refresh your PC" by going to PC Settings > Update & Recovery > Recovery > Advanced Startup > Restart Now > Troubleshoot > Refresh your PC. It deleted all the programs I installed (Adobe, Microsoft, etc.) but none of the apps were deleted. All the personal files (movies, music, photos) were intact as well.

I immediately noticed my connectivity had improved. Speedtests that were around 2Mbps down were now at 14. I reinstalled all my programs in a couple of hours and my WiFi remained strong. I received my new router from Verizon this afternoon, installed it and immediately checked my WiFi speed. I was amazed that I got 40Mbps up & down. Incredible! Finally....I'm happy :)

    Thanks again to everyone.

This has happened to me 3 times since I picked up my (now 3rd) Y2P. I will be typing away with the backlit keys on. Suddenly the keys will go dark and the keyboard no longer responds. It stays like this for about 15 seconds then the light comes back on and it works again.

    How weird is that?

    Anyone else?

That's always their first course of action, factory restore, because it's easier FOR THEM. Often there is a better solution but it involves detective work, which takes longer FOR THEM. Hope things get solved for you before you have to start from scratch.

Port replicator. Is there a good port replicator that will work good with this unit. To me good means it will run a second monitor without lags. Has VGA and HDM,I and USB out that will run speakers or a mouse. I have been spoiled with the t400 where we just set them down on the port replicator and you get everything including power.

Also with 8.1 users are you still seeing a need for a mouse and are there any Bluetooth mouses that work good. Thanks.

    @firepro

Unless you use your computer as a tablet, exclusively, you will probably want to use a mouse/touchpad/etc. to augment your pointing/clicking.

A finger is just not accurate enough to navigate the standard Windows interface. It can be done, but it's not quite practical, especially on high resolution displays where programs do not scale properly.

Has anyone who's installed the 802.11AC card noticed that the fan kicks on more frequently after the upgrade? The bottom of the case snapped back in without any issues, but I'm wondering if there's something that might be carefully aligned for proper airflow.

Does anyone know the standard of card reader in the Yoga 2 Pro? Even on the Lenovo site it just says 2 in 1. I want to know if it is UHS-1 capable or just SDXC, am thinking of using the ReadyBoost option and also adding a bit more memory for my downloads, thanks.

Have you looked at this one?

Amazon.com : Plugable UD-3900 USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station with Dual Video Outputs for Windows 8.1, 8, 7, XP (HDMI and DVI/ VGA to 2048x1152, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 4A AC Power Adapter) : Laptop Computer Docki

I saw a youtube video of a Dell Venue 8 driving 4 monitors and using a USB keyboard and mouse with this. It looked fairly usable, certainly interesting at least.

I'm thinking that your problem may be caused by the computer thinking it's in "tablet" mode... that would kill the backlighting and disable the keyboard... just speculation, but it fits...

Can someone confirm if there is a way to change the direction of two-finger scrolling? For example, instead of scrolling up to go down on a page, can you change a setting to scroll down when you move two fingers down? Also, can you just tap on the trackpad to select something or do you have to click the left click button? I just read a review that said that these options are not available, but I figured that they would be pretty common across Windows machines.

I got the mouse that's sold on the Lenovo website (Dual Mode WL Touch Mouse N700(BLK)) and it's amazing. I tried it for a few hours on a 8.1 computer and moving around the left and right swipe feels swipe feels just natural. I barely miss the classic scroll wheel.

Wow just installed the Intel Dual Band AC chip and AC on 5ghz is like night and day compared to N on 2.4ghz. I'm sure a big part of it is because 2.4 is over saturated at my apartment complex but it's worlds better. Highly recommended upgrade for anything not satisfied with 2.4ghz.

    Hi,

Got my Y2P and so far works perfectly. Updated BIOS and other required software. And now using it with Office Pro 2013. All seems perfect (too perfect that I am getting worried).

As a novice I have few question and could do with some guidance/help.

    1) There are 2 USB ports. How can I find out which port supports USB 3.0 and/or USB 2.0?

    2) I want few more USB ports so how do I go about increasing the options? USB Hub - is that the best option?

    Thanks in advance.

For those of us who use the Y2P as a business travel laptop is upgrading to the 5ghz necessary? Will that be night and day at hotels and airports? Or will speed be about the same at hotels and airports because they don't have advanced routers. Is this just for those with high end routers who want mega speed at home?

I travel a good bit and I'm seeing more and more 5ghz routers at airports, hotels, and businesses. So many places are saturated with 2.4 I would say it's quite beneficial. AC alone will help your headroom as well.

^^USB 3.0 is usually blue i believe (so the left side).

USB 3.0 connectors are blue, so for the Y2P that is the connector on the left side. A hub or port expander is the best way to get additional USB ports, depending on what you want them for and whether or not you plan to take it with you.

On a Delta 767-300. The Yoga 2 Pro really doesn't like the power outlet. It makes the touch screen go all wonky (it's registering multiple touches when you only touch with one finger vertically up the screen). It's charging but something is funky with the voltage.

Anyone have issues of it randomly "snapping" when using the touchpad? it will snap to another window. Then when I try to use the mouse to switch over to desktop from the top left corner, if I click with the mouse, it tend to snap right back. Pretty annoying, but it doesn't happen if i swipe with my finger. Just happen to happen when using the touchpad.

Hmm ... I've had the same problem but the touch pad was still active, which makes me think it wasn't in tablet mode. At least not entirely. I do know the problem is instantly solved by closing and opening the laptop - that has worked twice for me. I've not yet tried putting it into tablet/stand mode and then back to laptop to see if that works yet.

Thanks to you and Hunter and others for recommending the Logitech USB mice. I got the M570 trackball with the tiny USB dongle. Although I like the Y2P touchpad, and some functions do not transfer to the trackball, it is very comfortable for the arm and fingers to use the trackball. I had the corded model years ago and could never bear to part with it. So I switched out the blue ball for my old red one and I like it. even better Something else one might not think of is that it remains functional when folding the Y2P into tablet mode - very handy! AND it does not interfere with the touchpad, so you can use either one anytime. Thanks again for the brilliant idea.

Also, has anyone found the option for image scaling for the screen? I've been trying to run Civilization V in a smaller resolution, because the native is too high, but it displays the game in a small rectangle instead of full-screen. On my desktop screen, I can actually change the setting, when I play older games for example. Thanks

Hunter99, all you need is a torx T5 tool for the bottom of the case and a 1mm phillips head bit to remove the screw holding in the WiFi card. This is the way I did it:
Make sure the Y2P is turned off and you discharge static before you start. You can pry the case open with your fingers starting from the back where the fan grills are located and carefully work your way around. It's quite a sturdy case and it's also magnetised, so you can keep it attached to the Y2P while you're doing other things. First take a pic or memorise which colour antenna cables goes on which plug on the WiFi card. Unplug the 2 antenna cables on the WiFi card first and then remove the screw. Plug in your new WiFi card and screw it in. Use a flat surfaced tool to gently push the antenna cables back onto the corresponding plug on the WiFi card. I found that if I just used my fingers to push the antenna cables back in while holding the card the cables would pull out easily when I went to plug the card in. Before you screw the case back on turn on the Y2P and make sure it works. Good luck if you go it yourself. Otherwise, it's totally understandable if you don't want to risk damaging your Y2P!

Also, I bought this micro HDMI to HDMI cable - Micro Hdmi TO Hdmi Cable 2M 1080P Gold Plated V1 4 High Speed 3D Audio | eBay and currently have it connecting my Y2P to a Dell 22" monitor. It works great and I didn't have to modify the cable to make it fit or work properly.

I tried running GRID 2 just to check out the benchmark tool and noticed every time I changed the resolution it would not scale properly. To sort that out I went into Windowed mode by pressing Left Alt + Enter. And then press the same again to go back into Fullscreen, that sorted out the scaling for me.

My Y2P is coming in on Monday, yay!

I am looking to get a case for it, and was hoping for some suggestions.

Does anyone know if these fit the Y2P, or are they for different 13' computers?

This is another option I am considering. It is more of a sleeve, but I am still trying to decide which I want.

And then there is this sleeve. Another option. A little bit more protection, but not quite the style I like.

Finally, there is the Lenovo slot-in case. Not a huge fan of the design, but I have heard it is pretty functional.

So, if anyone has any experience with these--or just has an opinion--please give me some advice. I can order of Amazon and get it on Monday/Tuesday. If there are any other options that I am missing (would like to keep the case/sleeve around $25) please let me know.
