Thanks so much for the response and the link. I am excited to get my Yoga, I have a read a great deal on this forum, and I am not particularly concerned about the reported color issue, or the lack of dual band WIFI. I played around on the display model at my local Best buy and it seems like this machine will work for well for my fairly casual uses.

Thanks for the information, I think either of those will be adequate for me. I should have been more clear in my post, by "last a long time" I meant that I want the machine to last a long time before I have to replace it. If I can swap out the battery after a year or so, then I wont need a new laptop for quite awhile.

A battery should last more than a year but if you are worried about that then an extended warranty might cost less than a new battery and you would also be covered on everything else.

Any recommendations for extended warranty service including accident protection? BestBuy's is $339.99 for 2 years, SquareTrade is $224.99 (would have only been $109.97 if I was able to get computer through Amazon :(). I paid with cash so I don't get additional protection through my credit card.

I just noticed...the Yoga 2 Pro doesn't have the typical kensington lock hole does it? I tried plugging it in earlier today when I wanted to go to the bathroom and couldn't find a slot.

Does anybody have any alternate suggestions for laptop locks?

Just for future reference, Lenovo does not have the warranty info online for the Y2P yet, however I did an online chat with Lenovo rep and found the following info:

2 year plan with Accident Protection
    Onsite (your home/office) - $149
    Depot - $119

generally i use it in regular laptop mode, but I started last night trying some of the different modes. I figured for hanging out on the couch browsing the web and watching videos, tablet mode would be good. the thing is, it's hard to get any tablet into the right viewing angle without holding it or finding something to prop it up with. and as a tablet, the Y2P is pretty heavy to sit there and hold for long. but, you can just open it up a bit into stand mode, get the right angle, and it's perfect. not really a whole lot different than laptop mode i guess, but brings the screen a bit closer and it's probably a bit more stable. I was happy to figure that out.

I just got Y2P with highest conf. i7, 512gb 8gb. used SCOUTS and paid little over $1300 + tax on Lenovo site. and I've had it for half a day. I noted initially the battery life showed was little over 3 hours. I did total drain and full charge and put it in power saver mode and I am getting 4hr and 25 mins, wifi on and just using Firefox with few tabs. I was hoping to get close to 6 hours. anyone else have this issue? I've been a mac user and I do like what I am seeing but if battery life stays poor and if the color issue don't get addressed i am not sure if i want keep it.

    That's frustrating.

On an unrelated note, I was hoping someone might be able to test something for me.
I don't game much, it's mostly casual but I've always loved the Red Alert series of games and I was wondering if anyone here might have them and be able to check how well they run (if at all)?

honestly i dont really notice the yellow issue??

i do have a dilemma as I have a friend who has access to a apple store discount which would bring the 13" mbp to $975 and therefore would make it cheaper than what i got the Yoga for (with Discover cashback). It equates to around $100 less for the less powerful mbp. SO is it worth it to stay wiht the yoga at $100 more (leave the whole osx vs windows debate out of the decision) im talking about hardware only

I'm really surprised how useful the "Stand" mode is. I find even a regular iPad heavy to hold for long periods. The Stand mode is nice as..
-- The Yoga sits very comfortably on your lap (e.g. for reading on the train)
-- It puts the screen closer to you than laptop mode which is good for reading (Kindle app etc)

I had tried to keep the new Yoga pristine for a day.....

But it was just too near perfect to let the minor imperfection go so......Here are some photos from my first upgrade - Intel's Dual Band-AC 7260 network card. No whitelist concerns for this card - just be careful with those little antenna attachments and you'll be golden! Easy Upgrade.

***Update*** One minor update necessary - the bluetooth device appears to be different - I needed to delete it and rereun the intel driver package to get it loaded correctly.

I'm assuming my recently purchased non AC dual band router will not allow me to benefit from this upgrade to gigabit correct?

I probably have a stupid question, but on my last laptop I could see both the 2.4 and 5GHz, but you can only connect to one at a time, so how do you get multiple connections going or does it just work in the background regardless of which one you connect to?

This is the router I have. Amazon.com: NETGEAR Wireless Router - N900 Dual Band Gigabit (WNDR4500): Electronics

I got mine today at BB, could not resist.

Two things off the bat. The yellow problem is there, and obvious. It looks more like spicy mustard than yellow. Second, the keys and track pad are finger print magnets. Any oil from your finger tips shows up immediately. This laptop will look filthy very quickly.

On to Linux, the only way I was able to get into the BIOS was to power off and boot from novo button. Turn secure boot off and fastboot off. Power off fully and novo button again to select boot source. UEFI booting from USB drive worked, and I need to pass acpi_backlight=vendor to get the screen to work. Ubuntu 13.10 booted normally, and was actually usable at 3200x1800 (I was shocked). I scaled the display down to 1920x1080 and that looked good too, but 1600x900 did not appear in my list of options, which would be the ideal downscale. Trackpad, sleep, touchscreen all worked. The airplane mode key did nothing I could tell.

Wifi did not work. The syslog reports the hardware kill switch is on, and I've not figured it out yet, but I have 14 more days to get Linux sorted and decide if I want to live with the horrible yellows. FWIW, I really hate Windows 8x. If this doesn't run Linux well, it goes back.

The screen is pretty amazing. Even if this goes back, I'll be seriously looking at the Samsung AB9+ or the Zenbook ux301.

Anyone know of a way to create a shortcut to toggle bluetooth on or off? I have been using bluetooth headphones for years and this is the first computer that doesn't have an easy way to either turn bluetooth on or off (to connect or disconnect my BT headphones) or to disconnect the headphones directly. I have to go into SOUND properties every time just to switch between my bluetooth headphones and my laptop speakers. Ideally I would like to be able to toggle AIRPLANE mode on and off without disconnecting WIFI (i.e. just turning bluetooth on and off). Any advice is much appreciated!

Actually you should be able to right-click the sound icon at the bottom right of the task bar and choose playback devices and set which ever you are going to use as default.

Alternatively you can go to the apps screen, just start typing bluetooth and select bluetooth settings. There is an on/off switch there.

The yellow issue is a problem. I just loaded and went thru my photo library. I collect wrist watches and though it (the off color) was noticeable on regular pictures, it was easy to see on my watches. The colors were all washed out. For instance I have a blue Rolex with gold bezel and the blue just looks wrong. My orange dial Anonimo just looks atrocious. Doesn't even look orange. It's ironic that the best part of this machine (the screen) is also the worst part.

Do we have any updates or fixes for the yellow issue?

I don't play racing or sports games, so I'm not very familiar with their requirements. However, my gut tells me that their performance is pretty close to pretty much all other games on the market. Do they really perform that differently?

A number of users (including myself) have posted results with other genres (FPSs, MMOs, etc) that show that the Yoga performs pretty well on low-medium settings.

I got exactly 6 hours last night in Medium performance/Cinema Mode. Since I got 6 hours 40 minutes in my first test with wifi, programs running, etc., I would expect that the Cinema mode at Medium was using a lot more power than expected. I'll try the test again in low performance mode soon.

Jaywalker, is it a really tight fit? From the measurements on Amazon website (and comparing to the laptop's measurements), I would think it should fit very easily. I like the case but would have second thoughts if I have to struggle to put it in and take it out every time. I'd be much happier if there are no such issues but it's a tight fit once the zipper is closed. Can you please clarify? Thanks.

The card is an intel 7260NGW Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac, dual band, 2x2 wifi + Bluetooth 4.0.

I had to find this on mfactors com because it is the newer format M.2 card. Amazon is only selling the PCI-E version 7260.HMWG that will not fit!

ksdehoff, I am looking at the picture and it seems that the model number reads "7260NCW". Am I mistaken on this? I remember that on the release thread someone mentioned another model number. Can you please tell us where you ordered it and what's the exact model number?

Also how easy/difficult was it to open the back cover? I remember the guy from Youtube video struggling around the hinges but he's obviously experienced and I don't want to break mine when I get it. Any thoughts? Thanks.

saddlebackleather com sells a beautiful leather sleeve for the MacBook 13". A little pricey but the yoga 2 pro slips in very snugly which is what I was after. I plan to use the sleeve to protect the keyboard when the yoga is in keyboard-face-down mode. yogacase.jpg

Opening the bottom is trivial - the only real trick are the plastic tabs on the sides of the base holding it to the keyboard - just a little outward flex pressure on the keyboard plate pops those right off.

I purchased this vertical sleeve at OfficeMax that I really like. It fits like a glove but not too snug.

iHome Protective Sleeve for 13" Macbook - Black

I also picked up an Ogio vertical messenger bag there but it's not on the website. It is just a little on the tight side while sliding into the laptop pocket meaning it is very secure. The pocket in front of the laptop pocket gives a little more room (and is also padded) so I usually just slip it in there.

I need help - I just reinstalled Win8.1 Enterprise. I made sure I keep D:\drivers and I did, everything runs fine except Yoga Transitions Utility. I can't find it anywhere, and I need it to lock the keyboard in stand mode and rotate the screen in tent mode.

Am I missing something here? or Lenovo really keeps that software secret? (I tried Yoga 13 support page - nothing there either)

    Ksdehoff,

Thanks so much for the 7260NGW info. I just ordered mine from mfactors as well. I just upgraded to a new dual band AC router and was totally disappointed when I fired up the yoga to see that it was only running a single 2.4 N.

Would you mind sharing specific drivers that you used?

I noticed on Lenovo's site that they have two separate drivers - one for Bluetooth and one for the WLAN card. Each files is around 167mb! When I went to Intel's site they only list one driver released on 10/21/13 which is only 32mb - BT_3.1.1309_e164. Will this do the job for both wifi and Bluetooth? Or do you need two different drivers to fully function?

I was also concerned that there might only be a 2.4 ghz antenna inside but it looks like you have already confirmed that 2.4 and 5.2 ghz antenna's are already installed? Just double checking.

Looking forward to some dual band AC. My 1080p 60p home videos were choking with the current wifi. The 5Ghz AC should help with speed.

    Thanks again!
