Do we need to be concerned about SSD panic lock when going into hibernate/sleep?
-
It sounds like you woke it up somehow. While in sleep mode a number of things can wake it up. I just checked mine and unplugging a USB device or pressing a key on the keyboard woke it up. My "close lid" action is set to sleep - so I've never had that problem.

I get 4.5 hours with just chrome on and a bluetooth mouse. Brightness at 70-100. Also, did anyone know that the last 2 brightness settings are the same? And fan turns on a lot. I was just in excel and JUST excel and it turned on. CPU seems to be doing a lot of things in the background. Always at 10-15% when I click on task manager in Ctrl, Alt, Delete. Memory usage is at 30% doing nothing...

im on the verge of buying, so a few questions if you could be so kind to indulge me.
1. What type of touch screen is on the 2 pro? Is it digitizer? I seem to get the feeling it is not.
2. How well does a stylus work for handwriting?
3. What is the finest tipped Stylus you all have found to work best?
4. If 2+3 are yes and good, what have you found the best note taking program to be? Does evernote work well would you think?
Im very curious as to what to do. My dad has a note 10.1 2014 edition, Either he will Keep the Laptop or I will. But I need to make sure we are going into this with all the info we can.
He is a therapist, so he is using the note to, well, take notes. He uses the SNote app which syncs to evernote. The handwriting is fantastic on it, I am about to start School On monday and could really use a device. We also only have one PC in the house (mine) And its hard to share as its in my room primarily.
My thought is this
If he likes the pro 2 as far as function = or greater than the note he would keep the pro and I would buy the note from him, that would eliminate the need to move the computer into the living room when he needs it and I get a tab to take notes etc at school.
If he doesnt like it I buy the pro from him and put my comp back in the living room and I just use the pro.
We both need to be able to take notes very easily, If I keep the pro I also need it to play PC games to a degree. As ill be getting the i7 im not to worried about it. We really cannot afford to make a bad purchase as we watch our money carefully and especially me since I have to pay for school out of pocket.
Thank you for any advice you can provide. -
The Y2P does not have a digitizer so taking notes won't work out near as well as a pad with a digitizer. The Think pad yoga however does have a digitizer and also works well as a laptop. As you probably know the surface pro also has a digitizer but it is first a tablet and second a laptop.

Is there a workaround or fix for the Windows task bar not disappearing while watching Youtube videos?

I was wondering the same thing.

The resolution scaling is really awful. It varies between games. I tried to run Neverwinter in a smaller resolution but it show a small rectangle.

If you have a solution please share it...

Any suggestions on how to clean he screen AND the touchpad? I am kinda a clean-freak, and want everything to be perfect.
Also, for some reason, I do not have the option to switch to Win8 mode on Chrome. I understand that it should be there, but it is not. Any idea why? -
Anybody experiencing extremely small flash player in youtube? I cant fix the scaling in adobe flash in firefox. It scales perfectly in opera. Screenshots for comparison

Here's some info on the wireless issues -
Review Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Convertible - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
The wireless adapter is an Intel Wireless-N 7260, which is a 2x2 adapter capable of 300 Mbps. Since its dual band, the option exists to interface with either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz networks. We had some serious trouble with the wireless connectivity. Although it would remain properly connected indefinitely, after a period of time, the notebook would suddenly report a lack of network access until the connection was manually re-established. Driver updates seemed to help in our case, though many people report that the problem persists regardless. The common ingredient of all of these issues seems to be the combination of Intel wireless adapters and Windows 8.1, and it does not appear to be confined to the Yoga 2 Pro. -
Didn't realize the bottom of the case is magnetized - held it over the metal pencil holder and it picked the thing up. What's the purpose of that magnet?
-
It's used to detect when the laptop is in tablet mode

For solidity - they hold the back of the screen firmly in place when in tablet mode.

Has anybody used an HDMI to dual link DVI adapter that works properly for outputting to a 1440p monitor? I've been looking at different product reviews and many that are described as capable for this are reviewed otherwise. I'm hoping somebody has used an adapter like this or knows of one that is confirmed to work. Links are appreciated!

...it also makes it awkward to use a Yoga on my metal desk since the laptop sticks to the desk.

Hey all, just got this laptop today and I'm loving it. Convinced Best Buy to give me the floor model, as all 8GB seem to be sold out atm!
Anyway, I wrote a very brief, very minimal clean install guide for Win 8.1. This is for advanced users that don't need much hand-holding, and just need a general direction to get started.
Here it is: Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Clean Install -
Do you know how to then restore to factory specs if needed? I failed at that on my old Yoga 13 but I'd like to try the clean-install/restore-if-needed route again when my Yoga 2 arrives. Thanks.

For people having issues with the small fonts with the stock Google Chrome browser, I recommend downloading Chrome Canary. It works great with no tweaking necessary in high resolution screens.

How would you compare the clean install to the out of the box experience? i.e. performance/battery benefits, et cetera
-
Also has anyone put window 7 on this machine? Just ordered one but I'd like to know. My dad has never used windows 8 it is probably going to be a difficult transition.
-
hi guys, i'm loving my y2p, but wanted to ask, since VLC seems not to scale well, what video player are you using? (hopefully one of those "play everything you throw at it" players)
-
Has anyone compared the performance of the Yoga 2 with an i7 4500U vs i5 4200U side by side? I'm mostly interested in 2D performance such as scrolling in web pages in Chrome and Firefox and whether there is any discernible difference between the 2 CPU's. I received my Yoga 2 Pro i5 w/8GB of RAM a couple weeks ago, and while I like it very much overall, I feel it's performance leaves a lot to be desired. And I have a feeling the HD Graphics 4400 @ 1GHz is just not enough to power the resolution of this screen. I feel like my 4 year old laptop with a Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz (P8600) is actually faster.
-
Anyone have an opinion on this case? I like its protection, and am thinking about getting man.
-
Bluetooth mouse stopped working...again...even after turning off "allow device to turn off to conserve energy." Any other ideas?
Anyone play minecraft? I seem to be having issues but others say it runs fine. -
Not sure how often this is happening for you, but I've had my Logitech Dinovo Edge lock up about 6 times since I bought mine a couple days before release day. Had to remove and re-add it fro BT devices. It happens with every blue tooth enabled laptop I've had. Last 2 were Dell's.
-
It seems to be a problem with the drivers. The device itself says that is is okay in the device manager. However, the drivers (this time it was the bluetooth device identification service). I got angry at taking 30min to try to repair it, so I took out the batteries, added new ones (note the "old" batteries were less than a few days old), shut down the computer, and logged back on. Now it says that the driver mentioned above is no installed. It says "working correctly." I click on it and it says "no drivers are installed for this device." When I was having problems before it said Code 45 remove hardware and reconnect. It would not work though. I am thinking of getting a USB Wifi/bluetooth stick so that it might work better...
-
Mine also said connected and working even though they were not. This seems to be a problem with Windows and Bluetooth IMO. I work in IT and BT has always been buggy. Especially regarding Mice and Keyboards. If you remove the device from BT in Windows APP (Not Device Manager), reboot and re-add the device it should work and it shouldn't take 30 minutes. At least that has been my experience.
This inconvenience would not lead me to add an external device as it only effects me every 2 or 3 weeks on average. YMMV. -
Maybe it's just me, but that case looks huge for the Yoga...
-
I compared i5-4GB and i7-8GB side-by-side.
Just using the computer, there is much less lag before two-finger scroll is activated on the i7. Other than that I did not feel any other differences.
For benchmarks, I have run Prime95 (Windows64,v28.1,build 1). Here are the results, iteration times in milliseconds (the less the better):

Where is windows app?
-
It's where you add Bluetooth Devices. Go to Metro Interface and type Blue and select Bluetooth Settings. I'm just saying that you shouldn't have to do anything in the Device Manager to get your Mouse working again.
If my Dinovo dies I go there, delete my device and then try to re-add it. If that doesn't work the first time I remove the device, reboot and then re-add it. That seems to work every time.
If you ever don't see your Bluetooth device in Device Manager then a simple reboot should restore it. This has only happened to me once with the Yoga. This has also happened to me on my Dell's and it's almost always the Microsoft part of the driver that dies. -
Hm. Well, I got the slot-in case, so maybe that would help it fit? I really want something protective for it. Ugh.

Couple tips for you and your dad...lol...I am stubborn...I just want my windows that I am used to and not this touch the screen windows 8 crap......
You don't want to install windows 7...that is crazy....
My Yoga is set up to boot to desktop...just like windows 7.....
then when I hit the windows start button it shows all the programs apps etc. you can right click on those apps like word etc and then put them on the desktop....so your dad will think its just like old windows.
I even installed windows 7 gadgets like clock and date from windows 8 gadget pack.
A mouse helps you get the feel of windows 7....using the trackpad you have gestures and things that I am still getting used to. Sometimes when I use the trackpad I will just bounce to metro and say how did I get there.....
When you right click on the start button you can go direct to control panel etc....I figured that out recently.
I go up to metro now and then but not a big fan...maybe some day...I have office photo shop indesign all running good on the desktop so I am happy.
As Tim Cook says you cant make a computer into a tablet or a tablet into a computer...I agree and he is richer than me ...haha... -
Hunter99 is correct. You want to stick with Windows 8.1, which can be made to behave very much like Windows 7.
The whole idea of the Yoga 2 Pro is to take advantage of the capabilities of Windows 8.1, in addition to what Windows 7 can deliver.
I would add a particular program to give you the full Windows 7 Start menu functionality and that is Start8 from Stardock. Check it out and see if it's worth it for you. -
I used a free program called Classic Shell that does more or less the same thing as Start8, but it's free: Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements. It will bring back full start menu functionality in desktop mode. I did this for my sister and dad's laptops when they could no longer stand the metro interface (they don't have touch screens on their laptops). They're both very happy with their laptops now. I can't comment on which one would be better to use between Classic Shell and Start8 as I haven't tried the latter. However, I'm personally satisfied with the job Classic Shell does. You'll want to check out the start button forums if you want to change from the clam shell button that Classic Shell installs. You can find the original Windows 7 style buttons in the forums, but you'll have to find the one that positions best on the task bar (the position of the start button is dependent upon the resolution you're running).
On another note, I will say that I love the keyboard on the Yoga 2 Pro. Some have criticised it, but for my use I prefer the short travel distance on the keys as it enables me to type faster. The keys are also quieter to type on compared with a normal desktop keyboard, and combined with the backlighting on I can keep the light off and the noise levels down so my son can get to sleep. There are one or two keys (left hand shift key I think) that may have more light coming through from underneath than others, but it certainly is isn't a problem for me at all.Hunter99 likes this. -
Thanks for the tip, I was missing some of my gadgets and got the back now!

I did the same thing for a friend of mine who bought a new computer for Christmas and she gets along great!
Also I indicated this site Windows 8.1 - For Dummies that helps a lot to find your way... -
I like Incase Nylon Sling Sleeve for 13" MacBook Pro very much. I have the CL60035 model, and the fit is perfect for Yoga 2 Pro.
No affiliation with the company. -
Awesome, Thank you so much for the responses and advice.
Does anyone have a recommended hand writing app or program to take notes with? -
After having the Orange, 8GB, 512 GB SSD for > 2 weeks, I'm returning it.
I can't tolerate (and shouldn't have to) those awful colors, and I'm not a photographer or anything like that. They're just really bad - and hard on the eyes, even with the updates. I think Lenovo should stop using that panel completely
Also, the performance of the SSD doesn't seem to be on par with other SSDs.
Then there's the RAM - wish it had more. Can't run VMs peacefully with this thing. It gets too hot.
Going to look into the T440s. -
By the way, those are the most annoying positions I have ever seen for the Power and Novo buttons.
It's hard as hell to press the power button and nearly impossible to press the Novo button.
It's one thing to not want to hit it by mistake, quite another to make it inaccessible when you actually need to use it.
The standard keyboard keys are also less than ideal - travel, feedback, etc... The only thing this laptop had going for it was the weight, thickness (lack of), and Haswell i7. Everything else sucks.
Good riddance. -
Often when I read this and other forums, I am SO glad not to be a computer manufacturer. I am constantly amazed at the rate people try out and return these things, as if they were trying on a pair of socks. I am a big believer in getting what I pay for and things working as they're supposed to. But is there anything else in life that people can demand or receive total perfection, or have a whimsical change of mind, or don't want to wait for order delays so get something in the meantime and then return it? Location of power button? Seriously?? These costs are all borne by the consumer and increase the cost of the end product. I have had many computers and rarely had one that did not require a little tinkering - until this one. My Y2P has been perfect and after a long wait was glad to get it, just for the record. I know there is a certain amount of actual, valid problems that require returns, but it seems to be small. I just don't get all the criticisms. (sp "riddance")

God forbid a customer return something that isn't up to their own expectation. If you want to keep yours, great but don't try to downplay other peoples' complaints. I'd be happy to sell you mine since it's so "perfect".
If it were, there wouldn't be hundreds of pages of people complaining about it along with a BIOS update and "fix" (as I'm sure you know - since you claim to read "this and other forums").
I guess people should never return anything or be annoyed when their shipping date is pushed 30 or more days, or give any kind of negative feedback.
Why be concerned about the keys, or the location of buttons (even if you have to go out of your way to reach them)....
Anyway, why do these crusaders feel the need to constantly combat and dismiss everyone else's opinion of a product as if they work for the company ?
Just utterly ridiculous. I bought it, with my money mind you, and I'm returning it. God help who ever can't deal with it.
-
There's many pages with a few people complaining over and over and over again.
Your returning yours. Like many many people I love this machine. I'll be keeping mine.
You're no longer an owner and therefore don't have anything to offer owners.
Adios. -
Something was wrong either with your particular machine, or the way you measured it.
Here is mine:
Anyway, you should REALLY return your laptop

What makes your point any more valid than anyone else's ?
So you like yours, is there really a need to post that as a response to someone else's issues ?
If other owners / previous-owners / potential owners have problems with it, and you can't fix their issues, what are you really offering ?
