See if you can still buy the BB warranty. I think you have a small window after purchase to add it. (That is such a disappointment)

Does anyone here know the name of the old bios, have a link, or know of better way for me to get it?

I want to just roll it back and wait for the next update or so, since I rather have mustard yellow on my chrome icon in an otherwise perfect ultrabook for a while then deal with the apparently unresolved problem/changes that came with me & some others updating.

But for what it's worth, the problems would be fan whirring randomly and when I open apps when before those slots in the back were just silent little new laptop smell ejectors haha. The battery estimate says 3 hours on full charge after I got brightness back to where it was before brightness % bar changed after update. The estimate may not be worth anything, but worries me still. add 'plugged in not charging' ?

Anyone knows student discount code that works in Ireland store? There was one "15CAMPUS2013" but is not working anymore. In fact I would welcome any discount code.
I have been waiting for it to be back in stock since early december and now my student discount stopped working. Damn you Lenovo!

Just jump on Lenovo chat support and ask if they'll honor the old discount code price. That's what I did and they emailed me a quote to purchase in a few minutes. Easy.

This sounds more like you have some process(es) running in the background consuming CPU time. Have you looked into that using task manager?

On that note, one can use the Resource Monitor (available as a button from the Task Manager/Performance tab) to get more detailed information on resource usage.

The touchpad drivers are notorious for using lots of resources. In my case, I don't use the touchpad, so I keep it disabled and stick with a mouse.

Hello everyone. i am about to pick one of these up. I've scanned through a few pages but damn there is alot of them so far. just had a couple questions if you guys dont mind.

    1. any cons?

    2. is there much of difference between the 3rd gen and 4th i7? i can only find the 3rd in stock in orange color. 4th only in gray for last 2 weeks.

    3. is there a noticeable difference between the i5 and i7 in this particular device?

any other info you guys can provide would be much appreciated. im trying to wait another week to find the 4th gen i7 with 8gb ram in orange but may cave to the gray.

Received my Yoga 2 Pro today and immediatley checked for lightbleed. Here is a picture: [IMG]

It doesnt look as bad in real life, though( You dont see it going towards the middle of the screen). Only the bottom right clearly has light bleeding. Is that to be expected and within the normal range or should I be looking for a replacement unit?

    Backlight Bleed Test - YouTube

My bottom left and right corners are bleeding too, but less than the picture. I know it's hard to judge on that basis, as contrast in the actual photo can twist everything. But the bleeding would be worst if one use 100% brightness, dark (black) background in a very dark room. That would be stupid, it could just hurt someones eyes ;-)

So in bright environment and high screen brightness bleeding is barely noticable, the same goes for dark environment and medium brightness.

Also, those bottom corners - maybe there are some hinges screws which are actually to tight assembled to the panel and this is the real cause of the bleeding. Just speculating though.

guys today is the first time ive used my Y2P since purchase yesterday. I am having a huge problem and im not sure if its something im doing wrong. when in IE app, I moving in any direction on the touch pad does something different. if I try to move mouse down, it opens window at bottom showing current open windows, if I move it to left shows options on right side of screen, if I go right it switches between apps. only way I can get mouse to move is if I go UP first then continue to hold finger on trackpad and move around. am I doing something wrong?

By default this is expected behavior if you are starting from the edge of the mouse pad. Does this also occur if you start the movement away from the edge? Note, you can disable this behavior under PC settings, PC and devices, corners and edges.

Under control panel, mouse properties, device settings for synaptic. Bring up the synaptic control panel, at the bottom on the one finger tab you can unchecked enable edge swipes.

you guys are right. I like the idea, I haven't bought a laptop in over 10 years. I just use my ipad or built desktop. natural instinct for me is to move mouse down screen I place finger at top of pad first to get most movement down screen. it does it from edging but not if I stay in middle of pad.

how do I use track pad to scroll down page? I did it once by mistake but not sure what I did. thanks again for

its also auto dimming while working on it. I turned up brightness 3 clicks. called Lenovo, they said its the auto light sensor detecting light around me. don't have lights on and its crappy dark out so must be seeing more light when I move around.

I bought my Y2P i7/8GB/256-SSD at Best Buy a month ago. I really really love the machine. It was great at first. However, now the fans are constantly running. Even when the only thing I have open is IE11 Metro. I have also noticed significant light bleed from the bottom corners when booting up. While that isn't a huge deal to me, the fan noise is driving me nuts.

My question is, how should I go about getting it fixed/getting a replacement? I have until the 15th to return it to Best Buy but I'm not sure they will take it back because there is a small scratch on the bottom. There is also a scratch on the charging brick. Also there are not currently any available on the website or at my local store in this configuration. I would not want a different machine. I was looking at the Sony Flip before, but I don't think it compares. I'm also not sure how the Lenovo warranty works since this is my first product from them. Would they give me a new replacement?

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

This might be old news, because I hadn't turned on my Y2P is about 3 days, but last night Windows Update downloaded a new Wireless driver: "Intel - WLAN - Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260".

This didn't have any affect on me - I've never had a wireless issue with my Y2P - but I know that several here have had wireless issues. Might want to jump on Windows Update and download it and see if it helps at all.

On the auto dimming.....did you disable adaptive brightness in the power settings? Go to power options then advanced power settings then hunt around by scrolling down the list and disable adaptive brightness....I did that from recommendations from the board earlier in the thread.

I have an issue with the USB 3.0 port. Im using a USB 3.0 dock with gbit lan, which is being recognized by the usb 3.0 port but it takes forever to install the device or it doesnt happen at all. With the USB 2.0 port it works instantly every time. I've read reports of people having issues with the 3.0 port and devices not being installed but recognized.

Did anyone experience the same issue?

    Hello Guys,
So i will be receiving my i5/256GB/8GBRAM Yoga 2 Pro sometime next week. I was wondering what some good tips/tricks for a first time boot up that you would recomend doing. For example (what bloatware should be uninstalled, best setting for the 3200x1800 screen resolution, tricks with certain applications such as chrome and the DPI settings, etc.). Also should I just go to this Site and download all the latest drivers for each device or is there a way to see what version of each is installed. Thanks!

I had an issue with a usb 3 disk drive where it wasn't recognized on the USB 3 port but was usb 2. Strangely I wiggled the usb connector when it was connected to the 3. 0 port a bit and then the device was recognized. Looked like a bad connection. You can try something similar.

Native resolution works great for 95% of applications. Googling application name and HiDPI will usually produce fix instructions for those that don't play well. Win 8 takes some tweaking if you aren't used to it. I formatted and clean installed Win 8.1. If you're comfortable with that sort of stuff I have brief instructions at Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Clean Install. If you'd rather just uninstall stuff you can at least reference my list of essential programs. You should update BIOS first.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the current version of dev edition Chrome fixed all HiDPI issues. If you use Adobe CS6 by any chance there is a fix for that as well.

Tested the USB 3.0 dock with several other devices and it worked flawlessly on other USB 3 ports, so there is definetly an issue with the Yoga port.Sometimes it takes like 10 Minutes to install and at other times it doesnt install at all. But the few times it worked the connection was stable after successful installation. I'm not sure if wiggling the connector around a little is a solution for a laptop I just paid 1600€ for and I'm not sure if it even works because I've kinda tried that already :(

To make things worse, it looks like the lightbleed at the top right corner is getting worse as if somebody didnt glue it together correctly. Holding the the top right corner together with thumb and index finger makes the lightbleed disappear.

I have to say I'm quite dissapointed. I've waited 2 months for delivery for a defective unit.

You have to disable the hidpi flag before you install the dev version. The dev channel has hidpi capability baked in.

Try launching chrome with the additional command line switch (modify your shortcut), Then go into chome flags (url chrome://flags/) and change HIDPI Support Windows to default for a permanent fix. Then you can remove the shortcut flag. Flag is below:

    --high-dpi-support=0

While you are changing the flags you can enable pinch zoom with
Enable pinch scale -> set to enabled

Thanks, but I tried this and after it is set to default chrome stays in "LowDPI" mode. Even after a reset of all flags to their default and a clean reinstall it behaves that way.
And when I force it to activate HighDPI I get the same strange result as before.

    Hi all,

I am looking for a good hybrid that has a powerful processor and clamshell design [to allow lap-working in bed]... unfortunately, the only options I was able to find with a _detachable_ tablet were the spectre x2 [hp] and the ASUS transformer 300 series. These both have issues. I bought the spectre x2 as a temporary solution, getting just the 128GB SSD version.

Given how few options there are that meet all my desiderata, I'm considering the Yoga 2 Pro. I own a Lenovo Thinkpad W520, which I got 2 years ago, back when it was practically impossible to find a laptop with 8 GB of ram. That Thinkpad has worked great for me, so Lenovo is certainly on my favored list of computers (2nd to Samsung).

My question for everyone is whether it really works as a tablet for extended reading... It is over 3 lbs and bulky, and reading in tablet mode is one of the most important (perhaps THE most important) thing I need it to do very well. [I use special software for research housing a vast electronic library. This software uses Windows 8, which is why I am in the curious position of having "reading in tablet mode" as the primary criterion in a full-OS computer.]

    Thanks!

In my opinion the Y2P is a much better laptop than a tablet. To convert into a tablet you have to fully flip the screen over and you have then keyboard underneath. I am concerned about how robust this will be over the long haul. Once flipped you have a very long tablet with a very nice and responsive display. I also have an android tablet that will remain my goto for tablet use, even though the Y2P display is better.

Correction, Chrome Canary does apparently support pinch to zoom in Experimental Settings chrome://flags/#enable-pinch
I could not get this to work on touchscreen but pinch to zoom does work on the trackpad! You can also use Ctrl + and Ctrl - to zoom in and out.

Another advantage of Chrome Canary is that the on screen keyboard is automatically enabled when you touch or select an input box. That makes it a good browser for tablet mode. Ctrl + and Ctrl - work using on screen keyboard in tablet mode.

Zukem the tablet mode works really well for me. I accept comments about keyboard in tablet mode but you can buy the (expensive) official Lenovo Yoga Slot-In Case that "protects the device's keyboard when it faces outward in certain modes". Both portrait and landscape (2 pages sided by side book view) work well in Kindle using tablet mode.

By the way the wrong "yellow" problem does not appear as a problem when watching TV on ITV / BBC players.

    Cheers

Hi, I'm hoping someone can clue me in.

I just got my yoga 2 pro (the i7, 8gb Ram win8pro version), after it had been out of stock and off the website for at least a month. My yellow is looking a little wonky, so I'm trying to figure out if my bios was updated before it was sent out, or if I'm still out of date. My system information screen says the bios version is: LENOVO 76CN31WW, 10/31/2013 which from what I can tell is the same number as the current release, but the date is wrong? So I guess my silly question is, would the name of the bios version be the same in the new release, and just the date change? Or am I running the current bios (possibly with an earlier date because it was done prior to shipment?), and am just being picky about the yellow?
It's not an awful yellow, I could certainly live with it if it wasn't for doing a LOT of photo editing over the next few months (and thus needing colors to be as accurate as possible).

    Any help is appreciated.

Also I noticed 2GB of ram is being eaten up ALL the time, even with no user-operated apps running. Is that normal? My fan kicks in a lot, and the laptop gets quite warm, which I wasn't expecting... (Most I've had open are 10 tabs in chrome, outlook, onenote, and obviously the task manager) I do make sure to close out of any apps fully (win8 apps with the hold-till-it-flips thing, or I just terminate them from the task manager if they still linger after closing...)

    Thanks!

My computer takes up almost 4gb ram when doing nothing...and cpu is always around 25% usage when doing nothing....Go to Lenovo's website, click on support and then drivers, find your laptop and go to the energy manager and bios update. Do both separately. Do not do the multi download as it got all screwy and didn't work. If yellow still looks bad, someone put up a color profile on page 178 I believe. Add the profile and turn on high energy performance. Yellow looks fine. Also, for anyone playing games, download razer game booster (even though it might not boost your game but make it slower...), then when you do the hot key, your energy profile will be changed. So what I have set up is the balanced mode. When I do the game booster hot key, it turns on razer's energy profile. This sets the min cpu level to 100%. Now if course you could tweak your performance settings every time, but I have found that this is the best and fastest way to run games without having to go into energy manager every time. Also, I keep my computer plugged in all the time with conservative mode on (max 60% charge). Will this kill the battery or am I fine? Should I take out the charger once full and let it die every time...I just want the battery to work when I actually do remove my power cord (ie. I don't want a charge that will only last 30min on battery -_-)

For comparison, my i5 / 4gb model uses 1.4GB of RAM on a clean boot when running at 1920x1080 resolution, and 1.8GB when at 3200x1800.

Although I have removed and disabled unneccessary startup apps, it does include some essentials like Dropbox, MDBG and QQ.

If you're touching 4GB with little open, maybe an audit of Task Manager is in order.

Mine has some bad light bleed too. I'm considering swapping it out at Bestbuy but it only really bothers me in dark movies.

Eh I'd say that's normal for Windows 8. From what I understand Windows caches a lot of processes so things are quicker when you do need them. You'd rather your computer be using the ram you have then not right? The 4GB versions use less ram because the system caches less and so performance will suffer. You'll get much better performance with the 8GB version because more is cached.

I would say that would be impossible. Light bleed is a hardware/glue issue. There's no way a software fix would fix it. What they're probably referring to if maybe the BIOS/Energy Manager update changed the auto brightness (adaptive brightness) to auto and so the laptop starts up with a much darker backlight and so the light bleeding appears better. If you crank up the brightness (after turning off the adaptive settings) the bleeding would be the same as before the updates.

Windows will use up free memory caching various things; do not be concerned about that. A better metric is page faults in the resource monitor (memory); if you get a lot of those that is an indicator that you are low on memory.

anyone else notice how the screen slightly lightens and darkens as you switch between screens? just when going from home screen down to apps it lightens or darkens in about 4 steps. I turned off the auto adaption feature. guessing its just normal due to the screen resolution
