I've got the Silver/Grey version and think it looks quite "classy". Did you happen to play with an orange version...

I really never thought of a laptop as being "classy".

And I'm amazed at how many people worry about fingerprints.

    Mic problem

Just got my new Yoga 2 Pro from Best Buy (i7 / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD) and so far I love it.

Only problem I have is with the internal mic capturing only loud static/white noise.
I tried everything: installed latest realtek audio drivers, used the one in Windows 8.1, disable/enable, delete/reinstall... no matter what I do the attached audio sample is what I get out of the mic.
Is this an hardware issue? I've read of several people complaining about dead mics but none so far with this loud static/white noise.

Any ideas before I exchange the unit?

    Hello people,
I would have expected it to be a FAQ, but I didn't find any hint after reading 40 pages or so of this thread...
Considering the screen resolution, connecting to remote computers using the stock rdp client is very, very impractical : everything is so tiny it's barely readable.
Has anyone got a recommendation to fix this issue (besides lowering the screen resolution, that is)?
Any alternate rdp client that can upscale the display maybe ?

    R.

Given that the screen resolution is featured so prominently in Lenovo's marketing, it's remarkable how many of these posts involve attempts to overcome issues caused by this extreme resolution.

Equally remarkable is how many people accept the poor color reproduction even though all reviews that have applied the "fix" still note the poor colors.

Well, my Y2P has been in the shop at Lenovo since Jan 2nd for a loose touchpad and they said that it's on hold due to parts shortage! So it's been almost 3 weeks since I have seen my laptop. Man this sucks. Has anyone else here experienced such a delay in the repair of their Y2P? I hope not.

Here's a previous post of mine which includes the color profile.

Please note that the BIOS and the power management software update work together. My color profile was designed for that and a brightness setting of 7 (70%).

See if that helps. It works well for me.

I think it will be OK... the calibration was done at approximately 90 nits (the recommended laptop display luminosity). That value is reached at 70% (actually 86 nits on my screen) brightness...

    That's why I chose 7 or 70% brightness.

In the Intel graphics properties, you can save presets.

For normal desktop tasks these presets are nearly useless, as the DPI zoom is not part of the settings and cannot be changed without logging out. But, since RDS ignores the DPI zoom settings anyway, this is where Intel presets become handy.

Make two presets: one high resolution for normal use, and one low resolution, to switch to for Remote Desktop use. Before connecting to Remote Desktop, activate the low resolution preset, after you are done, switch back to the high resolution preset.

So I ordered the intel AC modem from Amazon mid December. It was from one of their partners. Anyway the modem never showed. I forgot about it and finally put in a claim to amazon. It got lost in the USPS system. So after a month I said I want a credit. Got the credit.

What shows up today...lol...the modem with a stamp saying it got stuck in the mail equipment, etc. I am going to be dishonest and take the free modem. Some things I don't feel guilty about. Now I gotta get this thing in. Still going to have a pro do it. Not comfortable with doing it myself even though the aussies instructions were good. My buddy tried to fix the laptop I gave him that had a shaky screen...he watched all these utube videos on how to fix it and opened it and snapped the video component off the motherboard...lol...that laptop is toast...haha...

    Hello,
I got my Yoga 2 Pro a few days ago. I am quite satisfied with it, but I am suffering from one big problem which occurs from time to time and can only be solved by resetting the yoga (and as a consequence losing all my data and settings):

The problem is, after days of using after the last reset, the Yoga does not manage to wake up from stanby anymore. I wasn't able to figure out what ís exactly causing this trouble, but it simply doesn't work anymore. A normal reboot (holding down power button für 8 secs and then power up again) doesn't change anything, the only thing that helps is a reset. But it's quite annoying to reset and lose everything every couple of days...

Is anyone suffering from the same problem or does anyone know it or has got any idea how to fix or at least cope with it?
    Thank you!

I think it's the same problem as described by user tacoking. Did you (or anyone else) find any solution or the cause for that? Only resetting (and losing the whole data) helped in my case...

I received my Yoga 2 Pro on Monday (Best Buy i7/8GB/256GB model). It shipped with the BIOS already updated, so I updated the energy manager and installed your color profile.

It's improved but still not good. Oranges have a decided brown cast to them. For example, the header bars on this forum (Reply to Thread, Quick Reply, New Forum Threads, etc.) are a vibrant orange on my desktop, but on the YP2 are a muted orange-brown. On the subscriptions page on the left side, where the background of "Subscriptions" is highilghted in pale pastel yellow on my desktop, it is a beige/tan on the Y2P.

Not a death knell for the machine, but [CENSORED] annoying. I only have 15 days total to be able to return the machine, so I question whether Lenovo will actually be able to fix this problem, or is it defective hardware?

Did you try it without his color profile? Yellow looks fine to me and I have never heard anyone complain about oranges before. I think the color issue is so overblown it's ridiculous.

Just because you cannot personally see it doesn't mean its not a problem. As with audible perception, peoples' visual accuity varies greatly, as do their applications. That old "I don't notice it therefore it shouldn't be a problem for anyone" mindset is highly annoying.

You don't notice it, don't care, or have an unaffected unit. Bully for you. Enjoy.

Actually, the "upper Bart" looks a touch more natural, while the "lower Bart" has a very subtle green cast.

I'm not sure what the color variation between LCD panels is on the Y2P, but I'm sure there is some.

There is an obvious difference in color temperature between those 2 screens. Upper is warmer (hence "redish" background), lower is colder (the white background is more neutral, no red cast). That explains why the upper yellow may seem more pleasant for some, cause it has more red component (just tiny bit). Personally, I too prefer warmer yellow, like "golden" one - but that's only a personal taste, nothing more.
We're talking about touches and subtles though.

I use inSSIDer, the free version, to test signal strength and channel traffic.

For the router, I use the Apple Time Capsule, 4th gen because it has a hard drive on board that I use for backups. I'm sure there are more cost-effective ways to go about things :)

Just noticed today that when you turn 'airplane' mode on (F7), it turns off the wireless and bluetooth as well. Is there any way to shut off the wireless but keep bluetooth on so that I can use the bluetooth headphones and mouse while cruising along in an airplane?

The "Airplane switch" is meant to basically disable all radios - the idea being that if you're on an airplane, using that switch will allow the computer to conform to the FAA regulations (at least the older ones) and not send out any signals that may interfere with the aircraft avionics.

The alternative is to just find some software that can easily toggle either/both radios. I had something like that on my Dell laptop.

The more involved method is to go to network devices and disable WiFi or Bluetooth... simple but more mouse clicks required.

What do you mean by traffic speed? AC is a lot faster than N over 5ghz. On my old router I could barely get over 200mbps and now I'm pulling closer to 900mbps (in the same room as the router). File transfers over wireless are much better now.

Hi guys, new Y2P owner here. Earlier in this thread, some people mentioned a kind of "soft grinding" sound coming from the fan, and how this might indicate the need for repair. I've noticed a kind of clicking sound coming from the left vent/under the keyboard (a fan, I assume). Is this typical of everyone's experience, or does this indicate I should exchange/repair the laptop? Someone posted a video which captures the sound nicely here:

Ordered an orange yoga 2 pro from the website, i7 / 8GB / 512GB. It's putting the estimated delivery date a month away, is it really going to take that long? I've read elsewhere that sometimes the 1 - 3 weeks prediction is more like two, since the Yoga 2 doesn't really have customizations.

I am thinking about a purchase, but there are a couple of things I can't seem to find definitive info on. First, are there any issues with wifi? I just sent a Vaio Pro 13 back because of awful wifi. Second, what is light duty battery life? I sent an Asus ux302la back because of poor battery life, less than 6 hours. Third, just how bad is the yellow color issue? Is there any fix that doesn't result in degraded battery life?

    Thanks for any advice, Jim

Where does the coil whine come from? Is it a high-pitched noise or a clicking noise? I'm getting noise that comes from the left side of the fan vents/around the qwsad keys, and I think that it may have to do with holding the laptop at a certain angle... I'm pretty sure what I'm hearing is a fan noise, rather than a coil whine. I've also found that the power mode I'm using doesn't really affect whether or not the noise happens or not.

Has anyone run a battery test of the Y2P on high performance mode? I'm getting a weird flickering effect with every other power setting (and I've turned Window's adaptive brightness off).

Has anyone looked into external batteries for this laptop? I've investigated a little bit, but there seems to be very few options that have an output of at least 20V and 3.25A (which is what the Y2P charger outputs). Most power banks only output 19V, 3A.

This is the only one that I've been able to find:

Amazon.com : Poweradd™ Pilot Pro 32000mAh Monster Capacity Multi-Voltage (5V 9V 12V 16V 19V 20V) Portable Charger External Battery Charger Power Bank with Smart LCD Digital Display for Tablet PC, Netbooks, Notebooks, Laptops, Smart Phones -- Compatib

A bit steep price-wise, but it is 32000mAh, which should be good for about 1.5x charges of the stock Y2P battery. Plus the benefit of also being able to charge whatever phones/accessories you have that are charged via USB. Seems like a nice accessory to have to add permanently to your laptop bag/briefcase. Not that huge, either. Smaller that piece of paper (but a little bit thicker, of course). Thinner than the diameter of a US quarter.

I was one of the ones with the soft grinding noise. Turned out to be a bad heatsink fan and had to send it in to Lenovo to get repaired (10 days, start to finish). But I just watched your video and your noise is worse than mine. I don't know if its the same...yours is more of a buzz like from a fluorescent light in an office.

I just watched the YouTube video and, to me, it sounds like the fan blades are touching something.

Not a bad fan/fan motor, but just the placement of the fan to be off-center, and its blades interfering with something....
