Hey all, need some advice. Have an orange Y2P I5, 4GB, 128 SSD on order from BB for $999. Browsing Lenovo's site, I see they now have the orange Y2P, I5, 4GB with the 256 GB SSD for $1049. If I use their military link, the price comes down to $1029. It seems like a no-brainer that I should get the bigger storage Y2P from Lenovo for the extra $30-$50. It says machine would ship in 3 days. I also was not going to pay the high price for a Geek Squad extended warranty and it looks like the Lenovo warranty plans are pretty reasonable. Appreciate any advice. The 128 drive would probably suffice for my needs (basic browsing, netflix, word, excel), but it seems like the Lenovo offer is a better deal. Thanks.

BB=Sales Tax..... In the end, they both my cost exactly the same since Lenovo website does not charge tax (if I am not mistaken).

I would buy from Lenovo knowing I'll probably have to wait about a month b4 I get my device.

I've been having some wireless issues lately, but not the same ones that I've seen mentioned before. The wireless is stable, but for some reason the Yoga won't connect to my wireless n router at n speeds, only at g speeds. I'm using a Linksys EA2700 which has dual band n capability, and I can connect to the n network at my school. When I look at the advanced properties of the wireless card, it doesn't show an option for "802.11 n" and under "Wireless Mode" it doesn't have any option to operate in n. When I set my router to broadcast n-only, the laptop disconnects while all of my other devices are fine. I'm not sure what's going on, I've attached some screenshots illustrating the issue.

HT mode is the new name for 802.11n for the 7260 series. Your WiFi adapter settings are correct. Wireless mode is only if you want to use b or g or both. 802.11b Wireless mode only means WiFi only connects at 11 Mbps regardless of enabling or disabling HT Mode. Wireless mode 802.11g only means adapter connects at 144 Mbps (20 MHz channel width) with HT Mode enabled or 54 Mbps with HT Mode disabled. 802.11b/g is the default setting.

Make sure on your router for 2.4 GHz that WMM is enabled on the "application and gaming" or "QoS" section. Also make sure that 2.4 GHz is running in mixed mode with 20 MHz channel width. Finally, use WPA-2 Personal AES encryption only. This should let your Y2P connect at 144 Mbps.

Thank you! Changing it to WPA-2 Personal only fixed the problem, before I was using mixed. Not sure why that wouldn't let me connect to the network on n though.

The reason why the 7260 wouldn't connect to n mode if encryption is not WPA-2 Personal AES or WPA-2 Enterprise AES is because the final specification for 802.11n states that you must use only those two security. I know that some draft-n routers, draft-n wifi adapters or uncertified N WiFi adapters allowed N connection over TKIP and WPA but the newer certified WiFi N adapters are very compliant to the final 802.11n specification.

    Hi Everybody,

I received my i7/4GB/256GB from Lenovo a week ago. The first day I spent over an hour with a tech support - we were looking for my WiFi. Reinstalled drivers several times, even had to get a new one from Lenovo, but it was not showing up in a device manager no matter what (only Bluetooth). Finally, after a factory reset, I was presented with an option to set up WiFi from the start. Minor glitch, but at least they did not forget to install a WiFi card :).

Anyway, I'm annoyed that my fan turns on all the time after CPU usage goes above 15%. Is it considered to be normal with this laptop? Also, I was on a Daily Mode w 70% screen brightness, native resolution streaming Amazon prime movie full screen. My battery lasted just a little bit over 2 hours. I was disappointed. Another thing - with just around 10 tabs of IE opened and a task manager running my memory usage is around 60%+. I disabled almost all interactive tiles and McAfee's live scanning because these things were eating up resources. I did not uninstall any of the programs. When I was streaming Amazon video my memory usage went up to 70-80%.
I'm thinking about returning this laptop though I really like its size and screen.

Am I expecting too much or my unit can be defective? I upgraded bios and energy manager to fix the yellow issue. I refuse to use my laptop in a stable mode because yellow color was not fixed in it - it looks mustard.

My fans do turn on, but they are really quiet and spin down very quickly. If yours stay on for a long time when your CPU load is low perhaps there's an issue. I think there are some 3rd-party programs you can get to try to control your fans. This is the coolest and most quiet laptop I've ever owned - I had the previous generation Yoga 13 and the Yoga 2 Pro is a big improvement here.

Windows pre-fetches into memory the things it thinks you use often. The more memory you have, the more stuff it can preload. If it needs the memory for an app you launch, it can kick out the preloaded stuff. In other words, there's not a perfect correlation between what you are working on and the amount of memory Windows is using.

I don't think Live Tiles are too much of a resource hog. The updates are just very small XML files sent from the App or a server periodically.

Virus scanners are typically considered something of a burden. Personally, I uninstalled the McAfee trial immediately and just run with the built-in Windows stuff.

Hello there! I was wondering if you could possibly help me out. I have an ac router and obviously the Y2P. I was going through my routers settings and I can't find anything called "mixed mode". Is that enabling both 20 & 40 MHz? Should I allow the router to cycle through channels or just keep it on the best one? What are the exact settings I should user on the Y2P for 802.11n? It shows that i am connected to n but the speed keeps fluctuating. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

just a heads up to anyone who purchased their Y2P from anywhere other than Lenovo. My warranty was not started at the correct date of purchase. got mine from best buy on Jan 10 2014. warranty on device started a month in advance. according to them they start when delivered to the stores. which didn't make sense. best buy had been sold out and i was watching. but either way, i had to contact technical support for ideapad products. NOT the warranty option which puts you in loop then hangs up. technical support had me scan a copy of my receipt and email it to [email protected] referencing my case #. they then changed my warranty start date to date of purchase. i know it was only roughly 30 days but you never know. if mine is 30 days, who knows how bad some peoples could be.

I was loving this new laptop but I'm starting to have serious problems with the resolution settings. I've read the helpful hints on this thread already but still no joy. Especially with Chrome. If I use anything higher than 1280 I only get half screen, and I can't get into it to change settings. I'm also having a lot of trouble with scrolling. I've gotten used to the reverse scrolling, but many pages simply do nothing except give me a ballooning square. any help would be appreciated.

The problem you have may be related to the wireless channel that you're using. There may be conflicts with other devices on the 2.4 GHz band and you may have to manually set the channel to one with the least amount of interference. inSSIDer is a good tool to have for finding the optimal channel.

The other setting you may want to change is the WLAN card power settings. Disable the power savings settings on it. It will give you a more reliable (longer lasting) connection..

Hello and thank you. I have actually tried both of those suggestions already. My router has an option to automatically search for the best channel however, so I'm wondering if I should use that setting instead. Not really sure about all the different settings under wireless properties either. I'm confused lol

Mixed mode for some routers means this: "b/g/n" mode and 20 MHz only. This allows G clients and N clients to coexist without performance issues. I don't recommend both "20 or 40 MHz mode since 802.11g isn't playing well with the 40 MHz mode and this will result to poor throughput.

On netgear routers, this mixed mode is called "Up to 144 Mbps"

Not sure I understand your issues.. I gave up on chrome, im happy with explorer and run it on the highest resolution . I was able to enlarge all the headers, so I dont need a magnifying glass to read it and it scrolls with no problem.

I got my chrome working pretty well! I haven't changed my laptops resolution at all, it's on the default 3200x1800 so maybe give the instructions below a shot:

There's two things you need to do, first follow these instructions:
You need to right click a shortcut to chrome, click Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and check "Disable display scaling on high DPI displays"
(For the sake of proper citation, I got that from here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/0eSSJK9heeg )

    THEN do this:
In the browser bar type in: chrome://flags (like you would for a web address)
then you need to find the setting called "HiDPI support" and switch it to enabled.
(easiest way to find it is just ctrl+f)

Relaunch chrome and you should be all set!

The first instructions are actually a fix for the second, which was previously working but then one day when crazy, so make sure you change the compatibility properties FIRST before enabling the HiDPI. Also read the warning at the top of the flags page for just an FYI.
It's not perfect, since it's an experimental feature, you'll notice some of the buttons are a little odd, but I haven't run into anything that blocks usability. I swapped my resolution and other than now being giant compared to what it was, it still seemed to be working.

I have i7 with 8gb memory....When I am surfing with IE 11 in desktop mode I notice the fan comes on when you load a site then stops....So if I go to ESPN the fan will come on and then it will fade. If I am just typing here on this forum I cant hear the fan right now. Never really bothers me but I see your concern of it coming on a lot.

    Hi All,
I have had my Yoga 2 Pro for some time now. As recently as yesterday and this morning, my Wi-Fi has cut out. Says it is connected but no internet access. I simple restart has fixed the problem. It has only happened twice in 2 days after medium to heavy usage. I know there have been wifi problems before and wondered what exactly the issues were. If it was like mine or if it just didn't connect at all even after a restart. I know of the new wifi module that can be installed but wanted to know if my problem was common or not.

    Thanks

Anyone getting bluescreens for cdd.dll and ntkrnlpa.exe? It reboots and works fine except for Bluetooth. To get my mouse to work again, I have to remove and then install the Bluetooth drivers. Works like a charm apart from that. (had Wifi issues 2-3 times a month ago but that's all) I increased paging in case.

I was having a nightmare with chrome as well...even with high DPI flag enabled. Then someone in the thread suggested going with the DEV channel builds, and for me this solved the problem for me.

    Two things:

    1) Completely uninstall chrome first (going into %appdata%/local/google/chrome and deleting) or use command line to reset all flags to default.

    2) These are "stable" builds... but not "official" releases (as I understand it).

I hope it works because I already had the Hidi enabled because of following previous instructions. I'm on 1600x900 and am afraid to change because when I did that last time, I lost Chrome for 2 days. It's a good thing this laptop boots like it's on fire ;)

I was in the same boat, the hidpi was working, and then one day I opened chrome and it was unusable. I basically flipped it off blindly, using tabs to find the right box and disabling it. I went back to the normal unaltered chrome for awhile, the one with the tabs only going halfway, etc., but it was still bugging me, so I googled and found the updated solution. It's been working great for me now at 3200x1800. I'll probably keep checking every so often to see if the problem has been fixed in a major update, so I can disable the extra stuff as there are smaller bugs with it still.
    Hope it works for you!

I know this is a simple question, but I couldn't figure it out even after a search. My keyboard is not lit. From reading here I gather I'm in tablet mode, but can't figure out how to change back to Laptop mode. Can anyone enlighten me?

also I just got this laptop from Best Buy last week. Should I look into changing BIOS, and how do I do that?

I apologize if this is an overtly simple answer and you know this already, but have you tried pressing fn + the spacebar? That's how you toggle the backlight on and off.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure I understand fully either. One guess: on my Yoga 2 Pro if I start in laptop mode, turn on the keyboard light, then turn the screen all the way around so I am in tablet mode, then the keyboard light turns off. When I fold the screen back to the laptop-mode position, the keyboard light goes back on.

I had a strange problem while using my Y2P at school last night and, while I'm sure it's something easy, I don't have time to look into it right now. While I was typing in OneNote in laptop mode, the on-screen keyboard would keep popping up. Anyone know if there is a swipe gesture or something I may have been hitting by accident that would cause the soft keyboard to keep popping up?

Never happened before but admittedly until school started less than 2 weeks ago I wasn't using the laptop much.

    Thanks.

I'm new to laptops, and have a noob question. I've read this thread up to post 100, and done some other searching, but having trouble finding the answer in the context of existing Lenovo tools, hoping someone can jump-start me on this one.

Given that there is no OS media included, how do you restore the OS if the SSD completely fails? Is it possible to restore a OneKey backup to a pristine new SSD? Also, is it possible to restore to a larger SSD (thinking of either a failure or a size upgrade down the road)?

Yes, you can create a one key backup/recovery on a USB stick or SD card from within Windows 8.1.

I am wondering anyone has seen a fix for this: I keep my Y2P in a reduced resolution (1600 x 900) so I can work with Adobe CS6 (which is unusable at higher resolutions). From time to time, my keyboard will stop functioning. I reset it by putting my YP2 into sleep mode, and waking it - a pretty quick process (but annoying nonetheless). I read on an earlier post that this seems to only happen when not using full 3200 x 1800 resolution. Does anyone know of a fix to this?

    Thanks.

This wifi stuff is getting tiresome. Been going thru the disconnect/reconnect routine, but now getting "no connections available" which requires a reboot to again find the connection.

I did this hack and can now use CS6 at full 3200x1800 resolution. Not sure why resolution would make your keyboard stop working though...

Thanks - but that's not actually what I am asking. I know I can create a backup, but my question is whether I can use that backup to restore to a brand new, formatted and empty SSD. Is this possible to do with the tools provided by Lenovo/Windows, or should I really be looking into some other solution (such as clonezilla). My chief concern here is not to lose important Lenovo drivers/software that came installed on the laptop and which I have read in previous posts is not available on their website.

got my y2p over the weekend, i5 128g 4g ram, and i absolutely love it. only complaint are the lack of ports, but that's kind of an ultrabook standard i will have to accept. software will catch up sooner or later with the high dpi screen. the screen is absolutely gorgeous; after updating the bios not a hint of the yellow crap can be seen.

Hey I recently got my yoga 2 pro and I'm loving it so far. Just had a question to other owners...

Is the middle rubberized part (above the keyboard) a bit lifted up for anyone? The sides seems to be okay when i push down on it gently, but the middle area (above keys F7/F8) have a little flex as if the rubber material isn't fully glued to the body.

I noticed the same thing, but I don't think it has anything to do with glue or any attachment. It just seems like part of the structure.
