im using Chrome Canary. works like a charm

Yeah, I use Canary as well. It works like a boss

Sounds like you're having a streak of bad luck. I purchased mine from BB a few weeks ago, and it's been flawless. Same exact machine as you. Stick with finding a solution rather than giving up. It's a fabulous laptop. Best I've ever had.

I am experiencing a high pitch whining sound (coil?), although faint, when the display brightness is between 3-9 using the function keys. At 1-2 and 10 the sound is not present. It's getting a bit annoying in a quiet room. Anybody else having this?

I have a partial solution for all those who want to disable the touchpad movements, in ANY laptop, whatever the driver, while still allowing the laptop touchscreen to work.
I have a lenovo yoga 2 pro that i got some weeks ago. the touchpad was unusable because the native laptop drivers allowed it to go all over the place. i had followed forum advice and uninstalled the drivers that came with the yoga 2, and installed the synaptics drivers and it got so much better, but i lost the f6 functionality to disable the touchpad, and i also lost the automatic disable function in tent mode. this really bothered me and i looked at autohotkey scrips but i couldnt find anything that worked.
so i went a step further and found a way to disable touchpad movements SPECIFICALLY, and this can work on any laptop. however, i am not knowledgable in advanced autohotkey scripts, so what i did was strip down a script i found on the internet, but i don't know how to add other things like disabling touchpad scrolling. feel free to do that if you want.
the script that i am using is this, using f6 to enable or disable the touchpad movements:
;Press "F6" to toggle enable or disable Mouse movements
#NoEnv
SendMode Input
Hotkey, F6, DisableKeysON
Return
DisableKeysON:
Suspend, Off
Hotkey, F6, DisableKeysOFF
BlockInput, Mousemove
Return
DoNothing:
Return
DisableKeysOFF:
Suspend, ON
BlockInput, MousemoveOff
Hotkey, F6, DisableKeysON
#0::
exitapp
Return -

Disabled display scaling (checked) + hidpi flag disabled = teeny tiny everything
Disabled display scaling + hidpi flag enabled = HD, but same functionality bugs as using regular chrome, if not more so, thus there's no point in using Canary...
Enabled display scaling (unchecked) + hidpi disabled = no HD anything
Enabled display scaling + hidpi enabled = no HD anything
and the "default" hidpi flag just produces one of the above results. -

My Note 2 to you -
I seem to be finding conflicting information on this. For those that have upgraded the wireless card... is this the right one?
http://www.amazon.com/7260NGW-Intel...846264&sr=8-7&keywords=intel+wireless+ac+7260
If so... what is the final word on it? I see some people saying it works flawlessly and others saying they had to spend days tweaking drivers. Then I read something about how the BIOS blocks the card? -
This keeps happening to me, has anyone else experienced this? It's extremely annoying. (I don't always reboot, sometimes I just disable and re-enable it in the device manager, it doesn't matter) -

What are some must-have accessories for this computer? Mine is arriving on Saturday and I have time to waste until then. Extra charger? Case? Screen protector?
I know about the Wifi card and I'll be getting that. Anything else? -
Could somebody try to change the resolution to 1600x900 with 100% scaling (no scaling) and report how is the graphic quality ? I can't see myself running on 3200x1800 and from what I read so far 1920x1080 is still a bit blurry and jagged because it is not a native resolution. But 1600x900 is exactly half of the original 3200x1800 so any scaling "down" shouldn't have any issues with blurry text. Plus, with 1600x900 there shouldn't be any need for any Windows scaling, 100% should be OK for everything.
Personally I like Yoga Pro 2, but the resolution on the screen is a bit of a deal breaker until at least Windows programs catch up with high DPI screens. If I can get 1600x900 to work for now, then I am sold .
Thanks. -
Wow there seems to be tons of issues with this laptop...
I was just considering buying this from Bestbuy over a rMBP. But after reading all these complaints, I might pass...

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
In your specific case, comparing an rMBP and a Yoga 2 Pro is a very flawed process: traditional versus convertible, non-touch versus touch, full-voltage + dGPU versus ULV + iGPU, OSX versus Windows 8.1, expensive premium model versus reasonably-priced consumer model, etc. I bought the Yoga 2 Pro over the HP Spectre 13t-3000 because of availability, and I regretted it at first because the Spectre gets better battery life and has better build quality while costing a little less (with the coupon they were running at the time). The convertible aspect of the Yoga 2 Pro was just an afterthought at the time, I didn't think I'd use it much. Now, however, I use it all the time and I'm glad I went with the Yoga instead of the Spectre, even though it was the lesser machine on paper. I don't know if you would personally ever use the convertible modes or the touchscreen, but it certainly won't be an option with them much-more-expensive rMBP.Tonio78370, shakermaker41, gadgetrants and 4 others like this. -

In fact back in late November I ordered 4 machines: Yoga 2 Pro, Thinkpad Yoga, HP Spectre 13 and MBP Retina 13' as a 'fallback' in case the other 3 would end up as crap, and I did need a new laptop for my trip.
Having previous experience with MBP, I knew its strong sides - but I also did not like the idea of using it under Windows (with all those scaling problems) and the lack of touch/convertible mode. So, though it arrived 1st, I did not open the box in the end as better options showed up indeed.
HP Spectre arrived together with MBP - I really liked the build quality, in fact, it was on par with MBP. This laptop lacked any serious flaw (AC wi-fi, large touchpad etc) - but as I expected before the purchase, the lack of a convertible mode made the touch screen so redundant that I did not touch it a single time within a week!
Next was Yoga 2 Pro - and this one ticked all the boxes! Gorgeous screen, good touchpad, extremely light and thin, very quite - and what a difference to using the touchscreen the convertible mode makes! Build quality is very good, and though metal definitely feels nicer, Yoda is way more practical in day-to-day use, as well as lighter than the above. Yes, it has some weak points (1 USB 3.0, no AC wi-fi), but at this price point imo the notebook is unmatched, so I ended up with it.
Re Thinkpad Yoga - though I would like its sturdiness, reliability and perks (liquid proof keyboard, Thinkpad utilities etc) and was willing to pay more for it, the fact that it is heavier, rather considerably thicker and has a worse screen for a higher price, was difficult to grasp... But it was shipped too late for my trip anyway and went straight back to Lenovo). -
wanted to throw in my 2 cents here
i've had my y2p for little less than a month now, and have not experienced any of the wifi dropouts or bt problems that people are talking about. important to know that driver and bios updates will work out most of the kinks (as much as the average consumer will notice anyway). things like lack of ports come with most ultrabooks nowadays, and must be accepted as an inevitable loss. yes, scaling for hidpi is still a hit and miss in windows, but these displays will soon become the norm for pc's; hopefully developers will quickly adjust their code to accomodate for the scaling. for me, the y2p is perfect, as i find myself using the machine it's all its advertised positions. -

Since I already have HDMI cables around, would one of these micro HDMI adapters work? Do I need high-speed HDMI or will standard speed work ok for an external monitor?

Maybe I'll still try tech support.
I'm thinking of going down the road of buying the other wireless adapter people have been posting here, but I'd be way to nervous to install it myself, I'd have to find someone else to =/. -
So, in case you use Skype, or speech recognition, you can get a 3.5 mm 4-pin to 2 x 3-pin 3.5 mm splitter adapter (M/F), and hook up any quality headset, which usually come with separate 3.5 mm plugs.
USB headsets also work, but with only two USB ports on Yoga2Pro the audio connector option allows leaving USB ports open for other things. -
I feel the same way about installing a new wireless card. Still trying to put together the bike I got when I was 9 years old. -
For those like me who are clumsy with their fingers on the trackpad.....Turn OFF the tap to click. That feature drives me bonkers...lol....That's why I like the mouse I use so much...That tap to click is so sensitive it will launch clicks you didn't mean to do...
I think its been posted before but a reminder.....You go to control panel then devices then mouse....then their is a driver tab for the synaptics trackpad...click off the tap to click...you will be happy if you are a trackpad klutz like me.... -
I just got mine and love it! So far so good. The colors still seem off, but not a mustard as before installing the bios/energy management. My only quibble is that there does not seem to be a way to reverse the trackpad two finger scrolling...

Thanks to all for the great insights. This post was about deleting the McAfee file from the D Drive. I didn't back it up first. Ooops. System has been working fine since deleting, but can someone point me to what I need to "reinstall" or whatever just in case I need it later? Thanks!

Paul Thurrott writes a positive review in his blog about his first impressions of the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro -"A high-res wonder that puts the MacBook Air to shame" on Feb. 22, 2014
Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro First Impressions and Photos | Mobile devices content from Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows
"The Yoga 2 display is an absolute delight, a stunningly bright and clear 3200 x 1800 IPS panel that shames my Samsung and, frankly, every PC I've ever used. And oddly enough, this is a bigger deal on the desktop side of the Windows 8.1 fence than it is on the Modern side, since that latter environment automatically handles screen scaling wonderfully. Text on the desktop, whether its icon or window labels, or text in a word processing document—whatever—is so crisp and clear, it reminds me of when I saw HD video for the first time. It's like my eyes have suddenly gotten stronger."

Just a general question here. Does anyone know of a free, full featured sound enhancer? Like DFX?
-
Had my first wireless problem. Tried connecting at my parents house. Connected with limited connectivity. Couldn't get internet access. They have Fios with their router

wanted to note that the newest chrome update fixes the tabs issue at the top. however, still can't launch into metro mode for whatever reason.

Hey guys,
After 6 years on a desktop and 2 years on an iPad im Looking for a replacement.
I Love my iPad, i always use it in bed for watching youtube and browsing, usually in a tentlike position. I rarely use it anywhere else.
Do You think i could do the Same with the yoga? The tent Mode looks Kind of Perfect and I assume the Display is a Lot Nicer
What I need the Yoga 2 pro to handle:
- connectivity with an extern Monitor(1920x1200) or TV, wireless would be awesome
- Web / Videos etc standard stuff
- office
- as a Engineering student i sometimes have to use CAD programms or statistics Software but I am not Doing anything crazy with it
- rarely casual gaming, FIFA 13 maybe?
- if needed, get 3-5 years use out of it
I was going to get the i5/8gb/256gb version, i assume this is more then enough for what i want to use it for? (i7 Version is 300 more expensive so id rather stick to the i5)
Are any alternatives that i should consider?
Do You think the Yoga 2 suits my need?
Any advice is much appreciated! -
Stand mode also works great (I think that's what it's called? It's like the opposite of laptop, where the keyboard is facing down on the table) if you're in a spot where tent mode can't quite get the right angle!.
I have not personally tried connecting to an external display yet, but I know there's been some compatibility issues with the micro HDMI port, however there's a list (on this thread and on another individual thread) of confirmed working adapters, so presumably if you buy one of those you'll be fine.
I haven't had any video issues, outside of issues with the browser itself (chrome has scaling issues, but still works great with some tweaks)
Office works great (but really that's sort of a given at this point, isn't it?) I use onenote heavily for my courses, I even take hand written notes sometimes with a capacitive stylus. It's not superb like a digitized screen would be, but it gets the job done. I've also used PPT and word with no issues.
I can't speak to any software like CAD, but I have run photoshop on here with no problems (which does eat up more processes power than your average app)
Gaming wise, a couple of weeks ago I tried out the ESO beta on here and had absolutely no problems whatsoever, game ran smooth!
With good care you can probably get 3+ years out of it! If you're a rough user I might suggest getting the extended warranty however. (I didn't, but I won't be travelling with the laptop much once I graduate in April)
I have the i7/8gb/512 winPRO version for reference. Not sure how much of a step down the i5 will be, but I'm a hardcore multitasker, so some of the things I did above were actually run simultaneously, or with 15 tabs open in chrome.
I will say I have been having serious wireless adapter issues. First with speed dropping dramatically, and now with the adapter just not working all together. The general consensus is just to upgrade it to fix it, which I might break down and do if I can't get anything else to work. Seems like a simple enough fix, but the opening my laptop part makes me very wary.
Hope that helps! -

As for gaming, the benchmark game I personally wanted to be able to play was Telltale's The Walking Dead series. It takes some fiddling with graphics settings and resolution to play most games, since full 3200x1800 resolution is quite a lot for even high-end GPUs to run on most games, but it can run non-intensive games pretty adequately. I understand that EA's sports games have pretty low requirements, so something like FIFA 13 shouldn't be an issue. Recognize, however, that you'll be pretty limited with GPU/CPU-intensive applications like CAD. I have no experience with the professional applications you'll be using, so I can't say what you can and can't do, but most professionals use workstations with full-voltage i7 processors and high-end professional dedicated GPUs to run those, so expect to be limited in what you can do, as well as how long it takes you to do it. For the same price as this machine, you can get a more-traditional laptop with several times the processing power, but it will be bigger and heavier and won't be convertible.
If you can live without the power (remembering that in 3-5 years this machine will be exponentially more-underpowered in relation to newer machines), the Yoga 2 Pro is excellent, but if you need computing muscle there's not an ultrabook in the world that'll cover your needs.
tl;dr
The Yoga 2 Pro's exactly what you want, unless you need something more powerful.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now for my own question:
I've been using desktop IE most of the time for my internet browsing, but I'm increasingly encountering issues where IE goes non-responsive for anywhere up to a minute at a time, or it's responsive but I can't use clickpad gestures. Since this is a low-power machine, I'd prefer to maintain a minimalistic approach to software to avoid slowing things down, but if the standard browser doesn't work properly I have no choice but to use something else. I'm giving Firefox a chance right now for the first time in years and it's not given me any problems yet, but if there's a way to get IE working properly, or if there's a better browser option for stable, low-resources browsing, I'm interested.
Ideas? Thoughts? Opinions?
tl;dr
IE isn't working. Fix it or use something else? -
mate, give chrome canary a go. its fast stable and handles scaling well. its my default browser now on my yoga 2 pro.

>>Hey guys, After 6 years on a desktop and 2 years on an iPad im Looking for a replacement.
I Love my iPad, i always use it in bed for watching youtube and browsing, usually in a tentlike position. I rarely use it anywhere else.<<
For iPad replacement consider the Microsoft Surface. An 1920x1080 movie will appear over 40% larger than the iPad due to 16:9 ratio and larger screen size. I have the RT version which is light and never gets warm. Since your moving from iPad you may not need any Windows desktop programs.
I also own the Yoga 2, it's great! -
Odd... If one moves from an iPad to something else, why not go to a real computer that can also handle tablet modes?
The Yoga 2 Pro also has higher resolution on top of that.
On a different note, I definitely use the Tent Mode the mode when used as a tablet. The advantage being that the vents are pointing up, thus there are no air flow restrictions. This is definitely ideal on a soft surface, such as a couch or bed. -
This is how I currently use the laptop, in 1600x900 resolution. It does look better and more sharp than 1920x1080 in my eyes.
Also this is how best to play games in, for example Telltale's The Walking Dead I have at the same resolution, textures on low but everything else maxed out. I get approximately 35fps which I reckon is great. Maybe 2-2.5hrs of gaming on the battery although haven't physically measured that.
I like to use my Bluetooth mouse with it rather than the trackpad.
-
Thanks for the help so far, has been very helpful!
Windows RT is really not an option because i want to primerily replace my Desktop, Tablett is secondary
EDIT: For the Price of Yoga 2 pro i5/8/256 i could get an i7/8/256 thinkpad yoga (with stylus support), would you consider it? -
hi guys,
Got a yoga 2 pro and have a few issues;
HD right up to 4K video on youtube is very choppy/jittery [no other apps running just chrome]
Can't get into bios - No button next to the power button from what I can see?
Touchpad - I often have my finger resting on the click area but it sees this as me trying to move the mouse, very annoying as when I use my other hand to move the touchpad it thinks I'm zooming in on pages etc, very annoying!
On the plus side, how the heck does it boot up so quickly! -
