It helps if you list the processes by CPU usage or memory usage. In my case, the memory offender is often "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation". I don't know what it is or why it's always running, but I do know that it sometimes bloats up to 700MB+ of RAM on my machine.

Also, even if you close Modern/Metro apps, they still run in the background. You have to kill them via task manager or restart your machine to get rid of them. If you use a lot of them and think you're closing them after use, you could build up a pretty big glut on your RAM.

If you swipe down to dismiss a metro app, that just 'pauses' it. If you swipe down, but hold the tile at the bottom of the screen, it'll turn over, then you let go. That should close the app.

Good ole ALT-F4 also closes the app, ends the process.

Good to know both of these.

Question for the touchscreen pros here: this is my first touchscreen device ever (Nokia crap-phones are awesome) and I'm not 100% sure of proper cleaning procedures. I've been wiping fingerprints with a dry lens cloth, but recently the smudges have been coming easier and even the freshly-wiped screen is a bit tacky to the touch, meaning less fluid gestures and even more finger oils being transferred. Did I wipe off some kind of protective layer on the screen, or is there just a buildup starting to form that needs to be cleaned with something stronger than a lens cloth?

Also, does anybody else put a thin cloth between the keyboard and screen before closing the machine? My Envy 14 has permanent keyboard/palmrest scuffing on the screen because I didn't protect it, so I'm a bit paranoid now. Do I need to worry about that with the Yoga 2 Pro's screen, or will the gorilla glass screen resist that kind of scuffing better?

I usually just fog the screen with my breath and use a soft cotton cloth (tail of an undershirt, etc) to clean it off. Just make sure the cloth is clean and soft and doesn't have any dirt or anything on it.

The best cloth I've ever used was my boyfriend's guitar polishing cloth. It's still microfiber (like most lens cloths) but it's much thicker, and way better at getting rid of oily buildup (and it's washing machine safe!)

As far as the keyboard goes, I think it's sunk in just enough to not touch/impact the screen. I've been using my laptop for about two months and have never noticed any keyboard marks from keeping it closed, so you're probably just a tad too paranoid :p

I really would like more users to test if they can hear a buzzing sound. You'll need a quiet enviroment and the fan should not be running. Due to its high pitched nature its way more annoying than the fan.

It occurs at less than 100% brightness for me down to about 40%. Both Yogas have the issue for me (12/21/2013 and 1/14/2014 production date). I want to know if its worth it to return the machine or if this is a general issue (maybe it can be fixed by new drivers/bios).

It would be great if some of you could test it for me and post their results here.

    Thank you

    Dear friend

How about using your Y2P in real life situation and see if it suits you?

I'm really sorry but I'm always so surprised about questions of people about if a computer farts with unusable brightness, impossible screen size and with a 45 degrees angle under a dimmed light.

I've got mine a few months now and am sure I have some of these flaws but it does what it has to do when I want it to do it and that's were I bought my computer for...

Well I'm working in a quiet environment and its the worst at 70% brightness which is probably what most people are using as well on daylight conditions. So I assume my question is justified.

I think your comment is rather unnecessary. This thread/forum exists among other things for technical questions like mine.

I have a habit of using my Y2P while I'm eating so it constantly has oily prints all over it. I use a spray and microfibre cloth i got for cleaning the TV. It's quite gentle on screens as it's mostly water, but it rids the screen of oil rather than smearing it with just a cloth alone. As oryan_dunn mentioned, it's important to ensure the cloth is clean. Otherwise there's a chance that you'll scratch the screen with the dirt (seen and unseen) on the cloth every time you wipe.

While I have not seen flickering occur at 70%, I do notice some flickering on my display when my brightness is 40% or less. This equates with viewing the screen on battery, under dark ambient conditions.

I will experiment with the settings and see if I can make some sense out of it when I have some time.

I was talking about the buzzing sound issue in my previous post which is most annoying at 70%. You ll need a quiet area for it and the fans should not be running, but its far more annoying than the fan sound. Its a very high pitched sound ;)

The screen flickering I'm quite sure is apparent on every Y2P with less than 40% brightness on battery. Hopefully there will be a fix.

Alright - next question here (ten minutes of searching didn't help): is there any way to change how long it takes for the app to flip? My Google-fu taught me how to use this technique to restart an app but not how I can change the delay from the (seemingly) interminably long 2-3 seconds. Unless I'm not looking in the right place, Control Panel has almost no obvious controls for Modern/Metro UI behavior like this, so I suspect that I simply don't get a say in it, but it's worth asking.

Could someone please tell me where I can find a micro hdmi to vga adapter? I checked on amazon and ebay but the ones that looked like they worked had reviews saying that they specifically did not work with the yoga 2 pro! Does anybody have a working one? If so, link?

    Thanks in advance!

I have a micro hdmi --> VGA adapter that came with my friend's Acer. It works but it's finicky...if you bump it, it cuts out.

Have you considered a USB --> VGA adapter instead? Not sure if that would meet your needs or not, but I hear it works well for conferences/presentations. It's a more reliable connection than the micro-hdmi option.

I got one for 99p in the UK from eBay:

Used it a dozen or so times and works perfectly with no hacking or filing.

They all work... lenovo just recessed the port too far so you have shave off a little of the plastic/rubber on the cable so it can go all the way in.
If you do not have a cable yet look for ones that can be easily modified. I think mine is a monoprice cable which had a small ridge of rubber going around which was easily removed.

You could probably eBay it for a few bucks. If not, it's better to stick it in a drawer than trash it, you never know if the new card might crap out.

Anyone sometimes having troubles with having no sound coming out of headphones?

Realtek recognizes the headphones and says that the a device has been plugged in to the audio jack but sometimes I get no sound out of the phones. If i remove my headphones the sound is ok on the laptop speakers

I believe one of the buttons on the side turns off the headphone jack. I have no clue why they would go with a button like that as opposed to, say, a mute button next to the volume controls, but so it is (or so I believe it is).

    Hi,

Go into the properties of your head phones, when connected, and try turning off all enhancements.

My Y2P systematically doesn't give sound on anything (head phones, BT speakers, etc.) if I don't turn these enhancement off. I never turned them on by the way but it's Realtek so it's normal that it malfunctions...

I use this adapter. It works well. It comes with USB power to make it a powered adapter, but I haven't had to use the USB power yet. It works fine without it. It's VGA to HDMI, so I use the adapter in the other link.

This is the one I purchased:

Amazon.com : Cable Matters Active Micro HDMI to VGA Male to Female Adapter with 3 Feet USB Power Cable in Black : Electronics

I used it recently for a presentation, and it worked as long as I didn't move my laptop (if I did I had to readjust it), *BUT* I realized after the presentation I completely forgot to use the usb power cord that comes included with it. The product even says while the power cord isn't necessary it can be helpful if the signal seems to be weak (depends on the laptop). So long story short it probably would've worked perfectly if I remembered the usb power, and it still worked OK without it.

(It's just a small usb power cord, so not bulky or cumbersome).

I've noticed another problem. This one is slightly more severe.

My yoga 2 pro randomly sleeps on its own when I am using it. At first I thought I was just accidentally hitting the power button, but after happening a couple more times it's definitely doing it on its own. Has anyone experienced this?

    Hi folks,

Recently purchased a refurb Yoga 2 Pro i7/8gb/256gb.

All going well, but the D: drive is completely empty. From notes I've seen on this board, I guess I expect to see all the drivers used by this machine.

Would anybody be willing to post the file list they have on their D: drive for me? I'd like to see if there is anything there I should chase down on my own.

    thanks for any help!

Regarding the D partition on the Yoga 2 Pro...

I dumped the listing from a Blu-ray that I use for backup...

The complete contents are listed below:

    View attachment y2p_d_drive_directory.zip

FYI, I dumped the contents of the D partition on a backup disk, made a note of the size of the D partition and then proceeded to remove the D partition and increase the size of the C partition to maximum.

Make sure you don't have any external magnets near the laptop. I believe the magnets in the laptop are used to trigger sleep when the lid closes. You can also try to disable sleep when lid closes to see if that is the cause (vs another issue)

I am so upset right now. I have to send mine in for repair. There is something wrong with the RAM. Kind of pissed that you can't expect a $1,200 laptop to run smoothly for longer than 2 months.

Too late now, but you could have seen how much it would cost to upgrade to Dell's Pro support... they would send a tech out to you to fix it onsite. Much faster turn around, worth the money in my opinion.

Sorry to hear about your problem. What happened to the RAM? Computer not booting?

The computer kept crashing and I would get a blue screen followed by a restart. The Lenovo rep kept insisting it was a software issue, even though I knew it wasn't. We downloaded the Lenovo diagnostic tool and it detected something wrong with the RAM. I can't explain how frustrated I am. I have barely used the damn thing. 40 hours max.

Perhaps Lenovo will be able to change the motherboard (to fix the RAM issue) and return the computer with everything else intact. I would definitely talk with them and let them know the situation you mentioned here (custom skin/screen protector/SSD with data, etc)...

    Hi everyone!

Im noobie and I just got my Yoga 2 Pro.

What I do wrong because I cant get picture to my JVC 42" TV from Yoga's microHDMI port.

Yoga says that its connected to the external display and offer me 1920x1080 and other resolution.

    Nothing comes to the TV.

My TV supports 1920x1080i not p.

Is there a way that I can get picture to TV? Thanks!

If the cable/adapter is working, you can use the Win+P key combination to output as Duplicate or Extend. At that point, the image should appear on your external HDTV.

No configuration should be required. Make sure the TV is on the correct input for the HDMI cable.

When you change the computer display to "Duplicate", the Yoga 2 Pro resolution should automatically change to that of the TV (1920x1080).

Under "Extend", it does not have to change.

Just wondering if anyone has used the Intel Driver Update Utility? If so can you share what results you had. Thanks!
