i have a application installed that is to small to read anything when open. i thought lowering the resolution would resolve this issue. is this not the case? i went way way down. icons on desktop are huge but application is still very very small.

whats odd, is im getting much better results when using the intel graphics options to change resolution over Windows. very odd. found one that works for my Fluke Optiview Remote. 1366x768 is working best for me.

I am experiencing serious issues. The computer loads webpages like it was built in 1997. Doesn't matter the browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome). The scroll is almost unbearable. I am getting a rubberband effect. Typing is slow to respond and there is a noticeable delay when switching between tabs or links.

Every time I start my computer from sleep or hibernate(I7 8GB memory 500GB SSD) after I close my lid, for some reason it freezes(the little wheel spinning like when you open a big file). I barely have anything installed! I do have three virtual machines through VMware player, but they are not running at that time. I also have Avast antivirus, and other small programs. If I run task manager, there's nothing that sticks out and task manager freezes too. I have to sign out then sign in again to fix the issue. With so much horse power I would have thought that issues like this one would be rare on my machine. I have cleaned the disk, ran registry error(I use advance system care 7 that is supposed to help keep clean your PC). I also have all programs that I know disabled at startup. Maybe it's a hardware issue? I'm thinking that I'll have to speak to Lenovo(I got the extended warranty, but that is irrelevant since my Y2P is only like 5 months old). Any suggestions? Thanks.

Anyone tried new Chrome Dev 64 bit?
    https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/index.html?extra=devchannel

Google says it's up to 25% faster compared to 32 bit Chrome, especially in graphics intensive operations, but MAN... It feels 100% faster! What a difference...
It installs just over the existing Chrome installation - and most importantly - I'm not getting any glitches in Gmail. I haven't tested it thoroughly, but from little bit I have - it's a fantastic upgrade. Every website I tried was smooth and fast.

Try it without Avast and see. I've seen articles stating that it's not functioning well with Windows 8

Tried installing it. Still getting the glitches in gmail. It's all white around the borders and flashy unless I un-maximize it. Then it's still slightly glitchy.

Just to clarify everyone has the registry high-dpi-support flag to 1 correct?

Gmail still doesn't work on Canary either.

hi, does anyone know if there is a way to increase the allocated video memory? Mine is currently at 0 MB when I check it through Screen Resolution->Advanced Settings->Adapter. There doesn't seem to be an option in the BIOS, is there any other way to do it??

Does anyone know the price for the replacement Keyboard, Touchpad?
    Lenovo warranty doesn't cover those.
This is my first Lenovo, and not sure about the durablity of the keyboard or that clicking touchpad.
Extended warranty or Accident coverage will not cover those 2 items anyway.

I like the system even with that greenish yellow. However, I am not sure if I should keep it or not when reliablity of the system components that are not covered under warranty.

I would like to hear your opinion.
    Thanks,

I am kinda shocked that the keyboard/trackpad is not covered under warranty. I have been a long time Dell user and have switched to Lenovo, I know that dell covers the keyboard/trackpad in the warranty, I had them replace it once. Overall though, I have had my YP2 for about 6 months now and still think its one of the best ultrabooks out there.

Yeah, I just chatted with Lenovo and they said the keyboard and tracpad are covered with the warranty. I have never dealt with a warranty that didn't.

I had a 2nd chat this evening after calling tech support for part pricing.
Tech Support told me they are not selling the keyboard or touchpad. Warranty covers the keyboard and touchpad. End users have to send the laptop back to Lenovo to have them replaced.

2nd Chat with Lenovo also told me those are supposed to be covered under warranty.

So far, I am not really sure why the first guy told me they were not covered under warranty. I clearly told them I have Ideapad Yoga 2 Pro with Serial number to pull the record.

There are a few others that was complaining about warranty not covering defective.

I already had a hickup (only had it 7 days with less than 12 hours of use) earlier today. powering up from sleep mode, completely black screen with mouse pointer only. I had to hold the power button for more than 20 seconds to reboot the system.

I got a couple other things to find out about extended warranty from BestBuy (1 battery replacement covered?) before deciding what to do.

I am going to talk to Lenovo again next week verify.

Do not get extended warranty via BB. Go to provantage.com and get the lenovo warranty. Search this thread for part number if necessary.

I got the 3 year in home Accidental from lenovo before finding out about provantage :(

Sorry if there are already posts about this, I've done a few searches and couldn't find any results.

I just realized that when I put my Yoga 2 Pro into tent mode that the left and right speakers don't adjust accordingly. I assume that when the laptop is placed into tent mode, the original left speaker should become the right speaker, and the original right speaker should become the left speaker, but that isn't the case.

I recently refreshed my PC and reinstalled some drivers, but I'm wondering if I installed an outdated audio driver or if this was always the default behavior.

Can someone do a quick test please? Here is a youtube video for easy testing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqVCPE8_ntE

I had a chat with Lenovo again to verify coverage. (even took a couple of screen shots, made entire text copy with Lenovo Rep number).

Then, I got the warranty part number 78Y1541 ( 3 year in home + ADP) from Provantage. that was $44.00 cheaper than Lenovo website.

Question. How does Lenovo know that I purchased the warranty and connect it to my Y2P serial number?
Provantage didn't ask for the serial number.

    Am I missing something?

    Thank you for the help!!

I apologize if the thread is littered with these posts, but I have found refurbs on Newegg of the i7/8/256 model for $934 ( Refurbished: Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13.3" Multimode Laptop with Intel Core i7-4500U 1.80Ghz (3.00Ghz Turbo), 8GB DDR3L RAM, 256GB SSD, WQXGA+ QHD+ 3200x1800 IPS 10 Point Multi Touch Display, 360 Degrees Hinge Win 8.1 - Newegg.com).

I've seen all the things on here (yellow, wifi, etc). But, for those of you who have owned one (maybe this model in particular), would you buy it again? Is this worth the purchase? If I'm looking for a capable thin computer, is it a good choice? Forget the price- is this computer worth owning?

    Thanks for the help!!

Simple answer, no. I have had the i7 model for about 6 months now. I have had to replace the mother board and now have a problem with the screen. Lenovo support is horrendous. I spent $1,200 and have had problems from day one. Not to mention the fact I rarely use it in tablet mode. Plus I really wish it had an active digitizer. If I had to do it again, I would go with Surface Pro. You should wait for Surface Pro 3. IMHO.

In Windows 8.1 you can't manually allocate video memory. The OS will dynamically allocate it, as required.

For those of you want do not like the oily touchpad, I just used a cellphone screen protector that I had left from old phone and cut it down to fit on the touch pad. so far it seems to be staying on fine.
Use the one that is thin. I used alcohol to clean the touchpad. not too much.

Has anyone tried silicone keyboard cover?

I have a silicone cover, but I don't use it anymore. Typing on it took a while to get used to, the edge of the keys are raised higher than the center of the keys, creating a small ridge which would catch on my fingertips as I typed. I lived with that for a while because I was tired of constantly wiping down my keyboard, but the reason I eventually removed it was simply because I couldn't see the backlight when I needed it at night. Removing the cover at night just meant I'd have to wipe it down again the next day, so I figured there was no point in keeping it on at all.

That said, it looked great, the fit was good, very snug, and it actually didn't peel off when you changed to tablet mode. A minor nitpick though was that the function keys were incorrectly labeled for the Yoga 2 Pro since it is compatible with a range of Lenovo devices.

I've tried to find this in the thread, but I can't get my fan to calm down. It whirs almost all the time now. Basic internet browsing with light video or music streaming and it is very loud. I'm afraid i'm losing a lot of battery because of it. Then again, the fan exhaust is also rather warm. To the point that my thighs sweat if its on my lap. Anyone else have this problem?

Also, the new Google Chrome looks beautiful. For those of you, like myself, who had switched away from chrome because the resolution was so bad the new 64-bit update/download is extremely nice. Works well on desktop and modern mode. A few minor bugs, but I'm sure that will get resolved. I'd recommend checking it out.

Hi everyone, I'm strongly considering picking up a yoga 2 pro refurb, but I will need to upgrade the SSD for my needs. Will this SSD fit? Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Newegg.com If not, would anyone recommend a particular 500GB SSD?

I'm also curious what your experience is with ultra high resolution display when scaling up/down to play 1080p videos on the device or onto a TV. Are there blurriness issues?

    Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to hook it up to 1980p screen yet, so I can't answer this question. So far I am watching movies on the laptop without any problem.

Thanks for the replies guys... I have one more question. It's completely subjective/speculation but I'm looking for any input on making this purchase.

If I'm buying the Newegg refurb, that presumably means it was a laptop which was returned for one reason or another, and seeing all the various problems people are reporting makes me especially concerned that the laptop I receive will have one of the "intermittent" problems which people report and that bother them enough to return the laptop, but aren't problems which manifest themselves or are obvious during the "refurbishing" process and would thus not be repaired...

I haven't read this whole thread obviously, but the main issues I've heard about that haven't/can't be addressed and wouldn't be obvious to a refurbisher are:
    issues with the SSD speed
the yellow (which has been mostly addressed)
    the WIFI not working well
the USB 3.0 interfering with WIFI
    the bluetooth dropping out
the audio jack/audio not working intermittently

am I justified in having concerns about this? Newegg is the refurbisher, and there will still be a 1 year Lenovo warranty, if that makes a difference.

To make matters more complicated, today is the last day of the sale, so I couldn't wait any longer to buy it, and I won't get back to America for another 6 weeks to see if works perfectly, is DOI or something in between. Which means I will only see it long after my 30 day return option is over. Should I just wait 2 months and see if there is another sale or price drop?

    Thoughts, recommendations?

If your laptop is hot and the fan is running then almost for sure you have some crazy app running in the background using full CPU.
Just open Task Manager and see what it is and try to fix it or uninstall it if a bad app.

    Yeah, I'd have same concerns.
If you're buying this laptop but won't see it before your return period is over then better forget it, it's too much of a risk. Something else will come up in those 6 weeks for sure. Time is on your side because Yoga 2 Pro came out in Oct last year, so there will be more opportunities in 6 weeks when you come back, and it'll be cheaper.

And you won't have it during those 6 weeks anyway, even if you buy it... Makes no sense to buy it now.

Yoga 2 Pro uses mSATA. You have the same Samsung EVO up to 1 TB in mSATA version, which fits and works perfectly in Yoga 2 Pro. Provided you don't have a Chinese version of Y2P (Y2P sold in China), which has a BIOS blacklist for non-stock SSDs.

Slow SSD? so far no problems in stalling full version of Office Pro 2010. I have a few large files (larger than 3GB), reading has no problem.
SSD read speed drops little by little as more and more software added to it. I have a few of my desktops filled up to 80% of capacity. they are slower, but not noticeable.

Yellow is not fixed. It is modified to show a little better. I loaded a few pictures, those shows yellow a little different. I will not be drawing on Y2P with yellow. So, I can live with that.

WiFi works well on my version which is from April. Home and work has not problem.

Bluetooth connection hasn't dropped at all.

Not really sure how USB interfere the WiFi. I have 64GB and 32GB USB 3.0 thumb drives working without any problem.. I even had one on each side including 2TB external HDD.

I haven't tried headphone jack, so can't comment on it.

Back to purchasing Refurbished item. I know that Best Buy's refurbished Y2P were very clean. I almost bought one since it came with 1 year warranty.

Not sure who does the refurbishing for those that shows up at Newegg.com I do shop a lot from Newegg.com.
I don't know how they will ship the laptop since I've never purchase a laptop from them. Other larger boxes come in on their retail package with label on it. All monitors (up to $1000.00) that I purchased from Newegg came without any protection. Just a label on the retail box.
I've seen a few other companies shipping laptops with tags on the box. (not double boxing).

Make sure to go on to Newegg customer service chat. Ask how they ship the laptop.

    Hope it works out well.

Not here, My fan will rarely run. Although the bottom does get hot if I use my Y2P for a long time( and the fan will run), so I either just put the laptop on the armrest of the couch, or I just flip the hinge so that the heat is away from me. This only happens when I run it for a long time(3-6 hours), but not at the beginning.

I bought a skin from Decalrus that covers almost all of my laptop and my touchpad(works great on it!) I did mess up the lid part that covers the back of my Yoga, but that was my mistake. It feels really nice, and is much better than having that oily feeling touchpad that I could never keep clean.

What a pain finding the right sleeve for the Yoga 2 Pro. The OEM Lenovo one doesn't work for me since the laptop is hanging out of it.

    I tried this one :
Amazon.com: Caselogic PAS-213 13-Inch Macbook Neoprene Sleeve (Black): Electronics
This one doesn't fit very well and the sleeve isn't wide enough. It caused the material to rip at the zipper.

This one is on the way :
Amazon.com: EasyAcc 13.3 inch Laptop Ultrabook Envelope Case Sleeve Leather Carrying Case Bag Accessories for Apple Macbook Air 13, Macbook Pro Retina, Acer Aspire S3, S5, S7, Asus Zenbook UX31, HP spectre xt 13.3, Samsung SERIES 9 NP900X3B, Samsung

Today I realized my friend has an Ultrabook. Asus UX31. It came with a sleeve. I tried it out. PERFECT FIT. I was shocked. So, I did some research.

    W X D X H

    Y2P
    32.99 X 21.99 X 1.54 CM
    Asus UX31E
    32.5 x 22.3 x 0.3 ~1.7 CM
    Mac Pro Retina
    32.5 X 22.7 X 2.41
    Mac Air
    32.5 X 22.7 X 0.3-1.7

As we know the 32.99 width of the Y2P makes it hard to find a case. With the Asus sleeve you slide the laptop in like a legal envelope. And there is enough room to compensate for the extra 0.5 CM of the Y2P that causes fitment issues.
    Zenbook Sleeve Case (UX31)
It is listed for $8.99 . $9.00 for shipping.

This one has promise since it loads like the Asus sleeve.
Amazon.com: V7 Ultra Protective Sleeve for 13.3-Inch Ultrabook and Notebook (CSS4-GRY-2N): Computers & Accessories

I will post up a review of the EasyACC sleeve but I think I will end up with the Asus sleeve.

Can't speak for the SSD but 1080p playback on both the HiDPI screen and HDMI out is great. I use Daum PotPlayer

    Wi-Fi Problems...

First of all, I really like the Y2P, and I hope this post doesn't discourage anyone from considering it.

    Okay...

I'm having trouble with Wi-Fi on my Yoga 2 Pro -- intermittent, multiple disconnects in a short period -- and it's hard to see what the pattern is.

    __________________________________________________

    "Unusual" Things I Do

I do 4 or 5 things that might be kind of unusual, and I'm not sure if any of them are causing my wi-fi problems:

    1. I always attach a wireless mouse to the Y2P. And when I'm at home, doing any real work, I also fold the Yoga into Presentation mode and use a wireless keyboard.

    2. My first wireless purchase was an Anker brand keyboard-plus-mouse, with a USB wireless transmitter:
Amazon.com: Anker® Mini Wireless Slim Keyboard and Optical Mouse Combo for Desktop, Win 8 / 7 / Vista / XP: Computers & Accessories

    3. I also own a couple HP X4000b Bluetooth mice -- one at home and one at work. I have paired the Y2P with both of them, meaning that they both show up in the list when I open "PC Settings > Manage Bluetooth Devices."
    Amazon.com: HP X4000b Bluetooth Mouse (H3T51AA#ABC): Computers & Accessories

    4. I upgraded the default Y2P wireless card to the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (802.11ac, even though I only have an N router):
    Amazon.com: 7260NGW Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11ac, Dual Band, 2x2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0* - Ships from California. In STOCK: Computers & Accessories

    5. As part of my wi-fi improvement efforts, I have unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" 3 different places in Device Manager:

    (1) Bluetooth > Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS Adapter
    (2) Network adapters > Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
    (3) Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Intel(R) USB eXtensible Host Controller - 0100 (Microsoft)

There are 7 or 8 other places that I have *not* unchecked checkboxes with that same name -- mostly under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and Human Interface Devices.

I'm itemizing these, in case anyone sees them and says "Oh, THAT one looks like your problem!"

    __________________________________________________

    Any my problem is:

There are two combinations I use at home -- both of which involve me putting the Yoga into Presentation mode and having the Anker USB wireless transmitter plugged into the Yoga:

#1. Anker wireless keyboard plus Anker wireless mouse, or
#2. Anker wireless keyboard plus HP Bluetooth mouse.

I like #2 because I prefer the feel of the HP mouse, but I'm pretty sure it leads to more consistent wi-fi disconnections. Hard to be 100% sure because it's intermittent and hard to see the pattern, but I got disconnected about 5 times in 30 minutes today, until I switched from #2 to #1.

On the other hand, at work, where I use the same kind of HP Bluetooth mouse, but the Lenovo's built-in keyboard, I don't get disconnected much at all, so it can't be as simple as "It's the Bluetooth mouse."

One thing I have noticed pretty consistently is that any mouse or keyboard action can bring a Speedtest.net test to a halt. I first noticed this interference one day while trying to stream a YouTube video while typing up a storm. The YouTube video would stop streaming / buffering when I typed too fast.

With either mouse, if I wiggle it at a steady rate, or simply move the mouse around in circles on the screen -- say 1 or 2 circles per second, the Speedtest download speed comes to a complete halt, or at least drops from 20 Mbps to about 2 Mbps.

    __________________________________________________

    Okay...
    That's all the raw data.

Can anyone help me out with some ideas? Does anything I've described jump out as a candidate for the likely cause of my wi-fi disconnects?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey all, had my Y2P for a few weeks and finally decided to give Chrome a try on it with mixed reports on scaling no longer being an issue. I cant seem to get hover (mouseover) menus AND touch capability to function properly at the same time.

After initial download, there seem to be issues with hover menus on sites running javascript. If I disable touch events as a Chrome flags setting I get the hover menus but no longer have touch capability within chrome. Has anyone else experienced this? Any known fixes? I'm new, but have tried to read through much of this thread and done extensive internet search.

    TIA.

I've been using the yoga2pro for over two month now, so I'd like to give out a recomendation to people who might be thinking to get one.
I really like the device, mostly I use only two modes (Tent and Laptop mode) and sometimes tabletmode.
There isnt really anything I find bad about the laptop, display is great , it is very quiet and does not overheat (At least under normal/average use).
Basicly is does everything you want and then some - I'm rather impressed

I don't have any of your scenarios or issues, but an extra test you can try is to see if yuo have the same issue when the laptop is not on TENT mode. Make it normal laptop with the keyboard and mouse attached and test if it still fails. If not then maybe is an issue with the tent mode which expects no keyboard or mouse? just a thought
    Cheers

This has probably been written about before but too many pages to check. My display goes dark (not sure it actually goes off) after about 5 minutes despite the power settings being set for 30 minutes before it goes off. Any ideas?

If you are unlucky Lenovo does not give 12month warranty!!

I got my Yoga 2 Pro from BestBuy on 5/30/14.

Registered at Lenovo website after creating account there on 6/02/2014. Received the registration confirmation.

Purchased extended warranty from Provantage.com for 3 year onsite including accidental damage coverage on 6/17/2014.

Checked warranty period from Lenovo using serial number.

It shows warranty start date of 5/4/2014. Ends on 5/3/2017 after addition of 3 year extended warranty.

Since I lost month on warranty, I just called Lenovo about it. After going through 2 customer service reps, 3rd one told me, warranty starts when it ships from Lenovo to dealers/distributors.

It doesn't matter where you buy except Lenovo. If you buy any of Lenovo item from anywhere that has stock for longer than a few months, you lose number of the days/months from your warranty.

Warranty registration has no meaning. They don't even connect my Lenovo account with what I registered.

    Totally unacceptable.

    Anyone knew about this?

That is exactly how a warranty is... your warranty was extended from a 1 year warranty to a 3 year warranty. It's not 1 + 3 = 4 but rather 1 to 3 upgrade. That's the way it works and it's "normal"...

I emailed [email protected] . I supplied my purchase invoice from Best Buy and serial number. They adjusted my warranty to reflect the purchase date from Best Buy. Not the date Lenovo built my laptop. It took a few days but they got it done.

My only complaint is my extended warranty start date is the date I purchased my Y2P and not the later date I purchased the extended warranty.

Most Warranties start from date of purchase of the product (or should)
When you purchase an extended warranty it will revert to the date of purchase of your product not the purchase date of the warranty that is general standard.
