hi daked2, welcome to the forums. while charging, the battery does get quite warm. i don't have HWMonitor, but that temperature seems to be about right.
-
I had the chance to test the temperature as well, using HWMonitor.
Under light usage, the temperature was 46-52C. But I was also installing an update and doing some other graphics intensive stuff for a brief time. At that point the temperature spiked to 73C, but the fan quickly brought it down to 63 or so.
Once I was done with the update/watching the video, the temps went back down to the initial values.
During the entire time, the battery was charging, but I was using a passive cooler on which the Y2P was placed. -
I've got the Yoga ThinkPad 14 but I'll ask anyway: Is there no way to keep the keyboard backlight on indefinetly? It keeps turning off and I have to turn it on every time i open the lid again...
-
On Y2P the toggle is either on or off. When on it stays on and the backlight will be constantly lit, even after a reboot. Maybe your Thinkpad has a timeout feature somewhere in its configuration?

Just wanted to chime in and say that I've joined the ranks of Yoga 2 Pro owners. Actually, it's more my wife, because she'll primarily be using the system. Ours came from a no-sales-tax but Prime-eligible Amazon seller. Going this route ended up working well because the machine received is from a more recent batch that came with the i7 4510 CPU (despite the product description saying 4500U) and, more importantly, the Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 adapter.
While there are some other programs to install and updates to do, first impressions so far are very positive. Build quality is not quite as solid as a MacBook Pro but is better than expected for the price. Build date on the unit we received was November 2014, and I didn't notice any problem with the display of yellows; I'm actually very impressed with the screen's resolution, brightness, and crispness.
Unfortunately the machine came installed with Superfish, so that was the first thing to go, before it even connected to the Internet. I look forward to joining the class-action lawsuit that's going to come from this and receive a $10 Lenovo online store gift card. Other bloatware is present, but not to the degree of some other OEMs (HP, I'm looking in your direction).
I tried using it as a tablet for a while, but think the system is a touch to big and heavy for that mode to be practical for extended use. It's also a bit of a pain to have to manually pop up the on-screen keyboard in most applications. Fortunately, the keyboard feels great for an ultrabook, better than a MacBook Pro with Retina Display. The layout will take some getting used to, but that's not a big deal. The backlighting is nice, but I wish you could adjust the intensity instead of just having it be on/off.
Though we've only had it for a limited time, I think this system will be a worthy replacement for a 6-year-old, 17-inch Toshiba notebook. Until we saw these being sold at clearance prices, we were probably going to buy a Surface Pro 3. The Yoga 2 delivered a superior screen, more RAM and SSD space, a better CPU, and a more practical laptop/tablet form factor, all for less money. -

Am I the only one that dislikes the hi-PPI screen?
At first I was enamored with the ludicrously high resolution, but after the honeymoon period was over, I realized the Samsung PenTile panel was lacking in both contrast and black levels. Also, Windows 8.1 scaling is still not ready for prime-time, in my opinion, and is not supported by all software.
In the end I have decided that the cons outweigh the pros of this screen and I'm wondering if there is a nice 900p (1600x900) or 1080p IPS replacement panel available? I'm hoping someone else has already done the legwork on this and can save me some time and effort.
Or, barring that, does anyone know the exact model number of the panel used in the Y2P?
I did some searching on google and here, but I was unable to find the info I need.
Thanks. CD -
has anyone tried the newest windows 10 preview build yet?

I agree with J-Deadly's assessment.
May I suggest looking for a Yoga 13? It meets the 1600x900 resolution requirements and may solve the other issues -
This morning when I booted my Yoga 2 Pro opened a BSD with the message "NTFS File System" error. Any suggestions about how I can fix it? The "OneKey" button didn't work. The + sound key and restart didn't work either.
Thanks. -
I assume you powered down your Yoga 2 Pro before trying the "OneKey" button. If not, give that a try.
My Yoga 2 Pro has a Toshiba SSD. If "OneKey" didn't work I would next get a USB bootable utility to help diagnose SSD drive problems. Here's a link that may be helpful: http://www.overclock.net/t/1478584/toshiba-releases-their-own-ssd-utility-program
Good luck.Last edited: Jun 2, 2015 -

The recessed NOVO button, can be used only when the computer is already shut down.
You don't need to keep it pressed. It is sufficient to depress it for less than a second and the system will power on.
That should come on under any/all circumstances, unless the motherboard is defective, which I doubt. -
Hi,
I reserved the free Windows 10 copy but noticed there could be an incompatibility with a part of the Bluetooth installation. Any of you have the same thing (and maybe a solution)?
All my drivers are up to date so I'm not really sure what to do (and if I should do something about it...) -
I got the same message having all drivers updated on my Yoga 2 Pro. In addition it states that the Intel Processor Graphics won't work correctly after update. I have driver version 10.18.10.3496 installed at resolution 1920 x 1080 which gave best scaling for my use. Is there a solution for this?
-
Your driver is not latest I'm afraid, I've got the 10.18.14.4156 that I got directly from Intel.
As a guy explained some time ago:
- I take no hardware drivers proposed by Windows Update,
- Only take the Graphics driver from Intel directly (no WiFi or BT as they can give troubles)
- All the rest only from Lenovo
I'm running my Y2P for quite a while like this and it works like a charmMalvo26 likes this. -
Tonio78370: Thanks for the advice. I'll get the driver from Intel directly.
-
Unfortunately the driver 10.18.14.4156 was pulled from the site and Google didn't find it either. So I took the plunge and uninstalled the driver and then had Microsoft look for a driver. The OS automatically installed the Intel graphics driver 10.18.14.4170 and now the Windows 10 app doesn't display any upgrade issues and miraculously the Bluetooth message disappeared and now states that I have driver 17.1.1501.512. So I guess I'm good to go when W10 arrives.

Glad for you. On my side same miracle: I changed nothing and no remarks left, everything seems right for W10...

I am going to have to restore back to Windows 8.1 form 10. My two main problems with 10 right now are my track pad regularly just quits working, and my rotation regularly gets screwed up. Both these things happen almost every time after coming out of sleep.
The synaptic drivers have been updated severally times since I installed 10, which tells me that they are working on it, but it just isn't fixed yet. -
Was trying to search if I can upgrade to the Intel 7260AC card?
Current Bios is the 38.
will it work for me?
thanks -
-
Thanks for the response, appreciate it!
-
I replaced the original NIC that came with my Y2P with a 7260ac. Works fine, but nearly every time I open the lid when it's been asleep the 7260ac is disconnected and the only way to make it work is by going through troubleshooting and having it reset the card. Running Win 8.1 with current drivers.
Anyone else have this problem? If so have you found a solution?

Does any 7260NGW AC card work? Some people are saying they are getting unauthorized card? Is there a list of serial numbers or something? Everyone is saying to buy from Amazon, but only 3rd party sellers are selling it and no one is saying which seller to buy from?

Heads up on updated drivers for the Yoga 2 Pro (now with Windows 10 support).
See the Driver Page... -

anyone here with haswell yoga 11 can tell me which driver is "PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing" ? i'm pulling driver after driver from lenovo and most of them bail out at install stage... no worky

Just curious as I see there are many software updates listed on the Lenovo support downloads page for the Yoga 2 Pro, for July. I see most include for Windows 10. My Yoga is working fine and wondering if everyone is just upgrading all without any problems preparing for W10? Thanks

I applied all and don't see/feel any difference. Fine before, still great afterwards

Thanks for the feedback. I want to go with W10 in 2 weeks so guess I need to do all the upgrades...Thanks again
-
re W10, from what I've seen, I would trust the "upgrade" route if already running 8.1, not "custom" i.e. "clean fresh install". on the latter, some lenovo-specific drivers will not be picked up and they are less than obvious. if you do go clean install, be sure to copy the entire "drivers" folder/s from your C: drive and stash somewhere safe for copying over..
-
Yep, already have 8.1, which I upgraded from 8 long ago. Going to go through all the upgrades in next couple days....Thanks again.
-
Can anyone else confirm if they're finding the Windows 10 Touchpad driver buggy when trying to launch Cortana with the three finger tap? The Notification center 4 finger click works pretty well but I'm finding the Cortana one very inconsistent...

New to the Lenovo ownership world, but excited to have purchased a Yoga 2 Pro on its was to me now. Going from my gaming, OC'd Windows 7 love straight to Windows 10 and I figure the 2 Pro is the perfect laptop to fit the transition. I plan on tackling the WiFi AC upgrade in the near future depending on how my performance is, but more immediately looking at switching out the SDD.
Has anyone tried using the Samsung 850 EVO 500gb in their Yoga 2 Pro? What was the outcome?

Windows 10 drivers for the 7260 dual-band AC are up and I can't get wireless or ethernet to work. Anybody else have any luck?

The download is no longer working...I guess they pulled it. This was the link.

The wireless worked on first reboot after upgrade and yes I had upgraded to the 7260 AC card a long time ago. The Intel drivers from Intel's site never worked for me. I had to use the drivers for the old card from Lenovo and that is what was working before the upgrade.
As far as the BT drivers. I ran Windows Update and there were two updates. I rebooted and the BT drivers were still not loaded. I read they should be working, so I shut down the system by holding down the power button until both lights went out to perform a hard reset. After powering up the BT drivers were working properly.
I am having an issue with working using my monitor. If I close the lid on the Yoga it seems to limit the CPU usage to 9-10% and everything is slow and glitchy. Not sure what's going on. As soon as I open the lid then the CPU starts working properly as I have observed in Task Manager. -
Using all levovo drivers, except intel graphics. -
I fixed my issue. It was the VPN clients I had installed. I had to revert to 8.1, uninstall all VPN clients, then start the upgrade again. There were a couple of sites with users saying this worked for them.

Upgraded to W10. All seemed fine, then went and upgraded a few Lenovo drivers for W10. The Realtec Audio, The Synap Pad and the Intel Pro Set. Now, everything is super slow. Any ideas? Can I just uninstall those 3 items from the uninstall programs? Afraid to remove the Intel software? How can I revert back on those 3? A bit of novice on these things. Thanks in advance.
Updated: Nobody else having this problem? Can take 1 or more mintes just to open a new tab in a browser plus other lags. What INTEL video driver do you use? Other ideas?
SOLVED: Answer for me was to go into Bios and disable DPTF. Now the laptop is super fast!Last edited: Jul 31, 2015 -
i upgraded on wednesday. here are my few findings:
- the update process itself is a PITA. i understand why they have to stagger the rollout, but man was it a pain to figure out how to force the update manually. pretty sure i spent a good hour or two before just trying to get the update to run properly, for all the files to download completely, and for the installation itself to "prep" properly
- remember to update all drivers that are available (touchpad, intel drivers, wireless and bluetooth, etc etc) via lenovo. windows update can/will only do so much to get everything running. what i specifically noticed is that the touchpad drivers provide the new multi-finger gestures integrated into W10.
- side effect of the above - any settings in the registry that you ran previously would be reverted back to factory settings as dictated by lenovo. for me, this meant my two finger tap to open a new tab and three finger tap to invoke context menu was gone, and cpu throttling during tablet mode was back. any of these outlying issues were resolved via going through regedit again and reversing the changes to what i had before. similarly, a bunch of my system settings didn't carry through the update, and i had to change them myself (login using PIN, adaptive brightness off, don't turn off wireless card to save battery..)
- run windows update after first boot. often this will resolve kinks in the system. for example, on my first install, the start menu, and everything on the taskbar was frozen and would not open.
- reboot, reboot, reboot. remember to reboot your machine after every change. for me, i rebooted once after the windows updates, rebooted once after all my drivers were updated manually, and rebooted each time i went through regedit to make sure my changes were applied properly.
interestingly enough, i had to spend a lot more time doing pre- and post tinkering with my year old lenovo than my 6 year old asus. well worth it though; with windows 10 installed and everything running properly, the OS is pretty slick. windows 10 is what 8 should have been from the get-go.
feel free to pm or reply to me if anyone has any questions. -

Anyone else run into this? When I close the lid on my Y2P it switches to "Tablet" mode.
This is a deal breaker for me because I can't use it with my external monitor now. I usually close the lid and slide it under the monitor shelf. Worked great in Windows 8/8.1 (with Classic Shell start menu). It stayed in Desktop mode and allowed me to work with my external keyboard, mouse and monitor.
I can tell it to ask me every time before switching, but that's a PITA. Tablet mode should only be activated when the screen is folded back more than 180 degrees, NOT when it's closed (0 degrees).
Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks. -
I had the same issue. I Disabled DPTF and switched to Daily Mode as to not run up the temps on my CPU. -
Regarding the Bluetooth problems, while looking at the Action Center I noticed that Bluetooth was shut off by default. After clicking the BT button, all is well.

The problem seems to be that Win10 thinks that the notebook lid being closed is the same as it being folded back, so it switches to tablet mode. That should only happen when the lid is folded back, not when it's closed. Looking for a fix, if anyone has one. Thanks.
EDIT: Seems to happen when the screen passes about 45 degrees (half way closed). From around 45-180 degrees it's desktop mode. Anything less or more than that, it wants to use tablet mode. Didn't happen in Win8/8.1, only opening the lid past 180 would switch modes.Last edited: Jul 31, 2015
