It has always given me a popup in the bottom right corner to choose. It is easy to switch though if you click the far right icon in the task bar and click tablet mode. This switches it back and forth to me.
When it asks you what mode you want there is a drop down to choose "never ask again". Seems like this got set somehow for tablet in the closed lid mode. I use the laptop the same way as you and have no issue.
It still asks me, but stays on Desktop Mode if I do nothing
EDIT: You can go to Settings>System>Tablet Mode and there is a drop down for what happens when the device automatically switches to tablet mode to always ask you before switching.

anybody else feeling reduced battery life after upgrading to w10?
-
Yup.

Yup, battery life took a nose dive for me on WIndows 10. However, I noticed that Power Saver battery plan consumes around 1.5 watts less that Balanced plan when on same screen brightness (adaptive brightness is off). The difference between those two plans in Windows 8.1 was only 0.5 watt.
For now, until (hopefully!) MS irons out the kinks with Windows 10 and higher power consumption, it's probably better to switch to Power Saver battery plan when on battery... -
I updated two computers to Windows 10 via the downloadable ISO files; I gave up waiting for MS to update me.
Things went fine, with no real issues to report. The Y2P was update with the latest Win10 drivers prior to the update.
The only thing that is unreliable (almost broken) is the hibernate function. This is not a new issue (not Windows 10 related). It almost never works. It causes issues with the power button of the computer. I have to press the power button 2-3x to get the computer to actually start. That causes the hibernation data to go away and the computer starts from scratch.
The fast boot option (related to the hibernation function) seems to make no difference. The computer gets to the log in screen within 5 seconds, regardless. So... hibernation will get turned off.
Veriface is disabled (perhaps not compatible), so I will look into Windows Hello for similar capability.
Otherwise, Windows 10 is good.
Edit: Windows Hello requires special cameras that the Y2P does not have... that option is out the window....Last edited: Aug 5, 2015 -
Mine works fine, no problems!

Got impatient waiting for Win 10 so I made a copy on a usb stick and gave it a whirl. Failed. Mounted the ISO on my Y2P. Failed. Tried doing it through windows update. Failed. Tried all of the above multiple times, followed some forum advice that worked for others. Failed. I've given up and will wait for MS to push it to me but I expect it to fail.
My thoughts are that it could be my AV and/or firewall but I'm not willing to open my laptop to those threats at this point. Anyone have any thoughts, advice or have similar situations and found solutions for them?

The MediaCreationToolx64.exe allows you to perform the upgrade in real time, without having to resort to actual media. I did that on one computer and it worked just fine. All you need is a fast enough connection so you don't wait forever...

So, I've disabled DPTF and am running in Daily Mode and my average CPU temps are about 60C. Is that normal and what would people consider too high to run as a daily. Seems my system is running hotter since upgrading to 10 and disabling DPTF. I never hear fans either. Never have that I'm aware of.
-
DPTF enabled = very slow performance (Windows 10)
no DPTF enabled = normal performance but higher temperatures (Windows 10)
I ran no DPTF and undervolting in Windows 8.1 with no problems. I may go back to that, unless something good happens (new drivers). -
there is an option to edit your DPTF settings. see here:
http://getpocket.com/redirect?url=h...ith-DPTF-amp-Yoga-machines/m-p/2047623#M30469
this way you can stop the CPU throttling without completely disabling DPTF.
my question, however, revolves around the touchpad gestures. my three finger gestures to show desktop and task switcher (three finger swipe up and down) no longer work, even though the settings are checked on in the synaptics software. does anybody else's work? if so, do you mind sharing your regedit keys for your touchpad? -
Just out of curiosity, did you guys run the update for W10 or did you do a clean install? I usually prefer a clean install but understand that it can be a hassle this time.
What would you advice ? -
You have to do the Upgrade to do the activation and then afterwards you can do a clean install and it will activate.
-
Wow after reading this I checked mine and my gestures are no longer working either - three finger swipes used to work as designed (although 3 and 4 finger tap never worked for me). Now three finger swipes are acting as back/forward in my browser. Anyone else?
-
Anyone done a fresh install of Win 10 yet? What Lenovo software did you re-install? I'm on the fence about installing Lenovo Transition and/or the Energy Manager
regarding the touchpad:
- 3 finger swipes are working as they should, but I wish I could set them to back/forward in the browser. I use that functionality way more than switching apps. Not to mention it's easy enough to 3 finger swipe up to change apps. I like the new task view in Win 10
- 3 and 4 finger taps seem to work inconsistently.
- 2 finger clicks bring up the right click menu, but I'd love to bring it up with a 2 finger tap instead
-
After I upgraded from 8.1 I found my two-finger tap didn't work but the gestures worked fine (despite settings in mouse options). I then downloaded/installed the Lenovo synaptics driver for 10.1. After that neither my three finger gestures worked OR the two finger tap. I went ahead and uninstalled that driver (from add/remove programs) and rebooted. I ran windows update and it downloaded/reinstalled the windows version. I am pretty sure both version are the same (19.0.9.5) but install may set registry differently. Got my three finger gestures back but no two-finger tap.
I think stumbled upon the fix below which required a registry edit.
HKCU\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM2132\1FingerTapAction = 2 (0 as default)
Then rebooted. Success
Pretty sure this was similar to something I had to do back when I bought the laptop in 2013. Touchpad seems to be working fine now.
TL;DR Use the default windows drivers and make the registry edit above. -
I just did a regular upgrade but the energy manager from 8.1 seems to be working fine (so far anyway). I read elsewhere that users installed the 8.1 version from Lenovo and it worked with W10.
-
It seems that the Dolby Digital Plus Theater is deactivated in Windows 10.
My energy manager seems to work fine in Windows 10.
**** EDIT **** Not a new version, just the date has changed. I was able to verify with my computer once I got home.Last edited: Aug 14, 2015 -
I noticed an update to the BIOS:
Here's the page.
This may be related to the latest controversy involving Lenovo and the installation of crapware...
See here...
**** EDIT **** I just checked and it's the old firmware with a new date.Last edited: Aug 15, 2015 -
Anyone else have problems with the screen flickering randomly since upgrading to W10?
Also sometimes my mouse pointer randomly disappears and I can only use the touchscreen to control the laptop.Last edited: Aug 17, 2015 -
I fresh installed Win 10, and the only Lenovo software I installed were the touchpad drivers.
Which unfortunately have problems. Every once and a while, my touchpad stops working, then starts again after I tap on the screen. But then the Lenovo touchpad software in the system tray has crashed, and I lose scrolling and gestures.
The driver version is 19.0.9.5 dated 5/29/2015
I also was not able to figure out a way to enable two finger taps. Two finger clicks worked without a hitch. I imagine there's a registry setting for this, but can't find it. I'd also like to find a way to assign 3 finger swipe left to the internet back command. -
Two-finger tap is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2 change key 2FingerTapAction=2 (Mine was under TouchPadPS2TM2132)
Three finger swipe works using the Synaptics Control Panel - Multi-Finger - Three Finger - Enable gestures.
EDIT: I've also noticed my touchpad and keyboard doesn't "wake up" after going to sleep. Touching the screen wakes them up. I imagine we could turn off power management for the drivers, but I haven't touched them since it doesn't bother me.Atook likes this. -
Turning off auto brightness, auto screen refresh rate (in Energy Manager), and power saving options in Intel HD Control Panel have been known to fix the screen flickering in the past.
-
My registry looks different, but I created that value to the Win10 folder, with no success. There was also an existing 2FingerTapAction key in the Win8 folder that I changed with no success either. (Funny since this is a clean install of Win10)
Seems like a mess of a registry area, with keys in different places for different people. Judging from the crashing of the current driver, hopefully we'll see a new one soon with all the registry settings consolidated into something more organized. -
The Win8 and Win10 are in HKEY_Local_Machine, not HKEY_Current_User. Drill down Current User and see if you have similar keys there.Atook likes this.
-
That was it, thanks for your help! I've been trying to get that working since I got this machine!
Now, any chance you know a registry key to change 3 finger swipe left/right to back/forward for internet browsers? -
That is in Synaptics Control Panel: Mouse and Touchpad settings, Additional mouse options, then settings, Multi-Finger - Three Finger - Enable gestures.
-
I am having several problems still. Mostly with my terrible display resolution. When I upgraded to highest available on Lenovo site it told me it was actually a downgrade. So I did it anyways. I still have problems with tons of task bar icons going across and it forcing the clock/date half off the screen. Not sure what else to try.
Current my Intel display driver shows version of 10.18.15.4240 with date of 6/16/2015

Do you mean the brightness changing, or going totally dark? My screen has been flickering completely off and on for a few minutes at a time, every once in a while, ever since updating to Win10. Anyone have any thoughts on what that could be?
-
What version of the drivers are you using? In my Lenovo 19.0.9.5 I can enable gestures, but the gestures only switch between open apps, similar to alt-tab. I like the three finger up gesture, but want the 3 finger swipe for internet back.
-
I did a fresh install of Windows 10, and the Intel driver installed automatically. I'm running 10.18.15.4256 dated 7/17/2015. Resolution is set to 3200x1800.
With text size set to 250% in display settings.
Also note that the icons you're seeing on the task bar are notification icons. If you right click on the taskbar, you can customize the notification area and hide most of those icons.

thank you Atook, i guess i can just do a restore on my computer to get back to 8 and then another fresh install of 10. any idea why its forcing my clock and date half off the screen?
-
If you've already done the Win10 upgrade, you can just fresh install over the top of it. Which is what I did. I still have the recovery partition, so I think I can restore to the factory Win 8 install if I want.
I wouldn't fresh install yet though, try installing the latest Intel drivers from their site, and see if that fixes things.
I'm not on the yoga now, but if you can't find it directly, you might try this: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect -
it says that i have a custom graphics and to refer to manufacture. which intel graphics card do we have? mine just show HD graphics family
-
We've got the HD 4400 graphics chips.
Maybe try installing the updater I linked seeing if it updates the driver for you. -
i did, it says custom graphics and to navigate to manufacture website for updates. thanks again!
-
There was a time, when I was running the Intel generic HD 4400 graphics drivers (from Intel), under Windows 8.1.
I had glitches where sometimes, the display would turn completely white and it would alternate between that and the normal display.
In the end, I went back to the Lenovo graphics drivers, and that issue went away. -
Another couple quick questions no matter what option I select I can't get my task at icons next to the clock to consolidate so I have to hit the arrow to show the rest. What am I doing wrong?
Edit: figured out that even though I had settings set to combine icons, show all icons were also set under notification settings.
Also in your photo text size and apps under display settings go to 250 but mine only got to 175.

I suspect that the driver version you have isn't allowing you to get to full resolution. What resolution are you running? Hit the windows key and type resolution and you'll see the display settings. As I said, I'm running 3200x1800.
-
I've been having the same issue, but only when on battery power. Some searching around online said it's the panel self-refresh option. Go to the Intel Graphics Properties - Power - One Battery. Disable Panel Self-Refresh. Since turning that off, I haven't had any flickering issues. Hopefully it lasts.
-
Hello, is there any way to enable a "beep" when charger is connected and disconnected?
-
Thanks for the response. Seems to be working so far. Intel graphics has been the source of a lot of the software headaches I've had with this computer.

Justo- you going to pitch another year?

Regarding the icons, I finally discovered you can just drag hidden ones down by the clock and they'll "stick".

Cracked screen
I opened the lid on my Yoga 2 Pro by the corner and the glass cracked. I suspect it could be because the hinges are overly tightened. That combined with lid flex.
If try to open the lid with just one hand, it only separates from the keyboard section about two or three inches before lifting off the desk. After that, I need to hold down the keyboard section to open it the rest of the way. Is this normal? -
so im having a problem with my computer being very jittery since upgrade. i really notice it within firefox browser the worse. just typing this i can get 3 or 4 words ahead of it registering. when going to websites the wheel that spins up top is always freezing and going. my CPU, Memory and Disk are very low. any recommendations? its starting to get kind of annoying.
-
That sucks re. the cracked glass. The only way I have found to open the Y2P safely is hold the base down with one finger and lift the lid open at the center with the other hand. They are just too flimsy otherwise. Unlike a macbook the base won't stay down when you lift the screen.
-
It's been a year and a half and I still love this system. I put a Samsung 512GB mSATA SSD in it, and changed the WiFI card.
I upgraded to Windows 10 and have had little to no issues with it. That said, the only gripe I have right now and I can't seem to pinpoint the culprit is that occasionally, the cursor will stop moving completely for about 10 seconds. I tried having a process meter up and don't see any spikes when this happens. I believe it only happens on Trackpad use (not mouse). I updated Synaptics drivers and rolled back. Doesn't help. I don't think the Trackpad itself is defective. It isn't even a matter of light touch vs firm touch.
Anyone else seen this?
I still wish Windows and other apps were better at hidpi scaling, but for now I just run at 1080p, despite the full resolution being gorgeous.
