No trackpad is perfect but after using my wifes Macbook Pro, it's head and shoulders above all other windows trackpads I've used which is why I'm thinking about getting the Macbook Pro. I've never been an owner of an Apple computer before so I'd rather not go that route but since I'm not doing anything that requires Windows compatible software, compatibility won't be an issue.
-
I disagree. I actually think the MacBook touchpads are phenomenal. The Yoga 2 Pro is very acceptable though. I always carry a mouse though, only because it makes me more productive, but I have no issues using the Y2P touchpad for extended periods of time.
-
Thanks for the response. I read recently that Microsoft is looking to help support the trackpad market in order to unify their capabilities and performance but I'm not sure when and if that will happen.
-
I'm sure Apple has some specific patents on lockdown.
-
I've been using a Bluetooth mouse (HP x4000b) for the past week without issue. If you haven't done so already, try downloading the latest Bluetooth drivers from Lenovo's website and see if it makes a difference. Filename: bt136w8164.exe
-
I heard from a rep that the Yoga 2 Pro will not work with the OneLink Dock, but that the USB 3.0 Dock (Part number: 0A33970) will.
Does anyone have confirmation/further information on this yet? -
Loving the Y2P so far. 256gb will be plenty of space for most people with a moderate number of applications and media. The screen looks quite good despite the color issue. There is a little bit of back light bleed from the bottom. I use 2x scaling so the effective screen real estate is only 1600x900 which may or may not be enough for web development. I still see a lot of issues with DPI scaling on some applications like Evernote and Chrome (text looks terrible even with high dpi enabled), but I'm hopeful this gets addressed as more high resolutions screens come to the Windows platform.
Based on some of the posts I've seen it looks like the color issue affects every screen, correct? No point in returning for a different panel? -
So it's been released in Canada (at great prices I might add) - 1149 for the Orange i5/256/8gb. But there are currently no i7/512 configurations available.
Does anyone know if any i7 models are going to be released here? -
They are here, Click next on the top right
-
I have an 11.5 MBA and it's a nice little machine with lousy dpi. The trackpad is like any other trackpad except it looks a little better than most and is somewhat smoother than some but can't hold a candle to a mouse..any mouse..even a $2 mouse.

regarding bluetooth mouse problems (forgot to quote post):
device manager, bluetooth, bluetooth wireless adapter, power management. uncheck box about letting it shut down this device. -
and do the same in universal serial bus controllers\generic usb hub

This may have been answered long ago? I'm still wading through the thread pages.
I ordered the slot-in case for the Yoga2Pro, and the case arrived yesterday; my Yoga2Pro will arrive today. The case is thin, feels good, a square/hard-cornered base, though the whole material is very flexible. I won't be able to judge it much until I have the computer to put in it, and see how much I like it for covering the keyboard, which was also my principal reason for ordinger it. -
Thanks much, curious to hear.. it does look useful, however $40 for what by most accounts (at least for the prior version) is a pretty simple item with a couple of sheets of vinyl, just feels like a bit of a ripoff. :O So very keen to hear if you think it's worth it (else I guess it should come to retail eventually, and then maybe will be available at a more reasonable price).
-
I wonder why people would have problems with the keyboard unless they put it down on a pizza in stand mode or something. The keys are recessed for that very reason.
-
So I ordered from best buy and they told me the estimated pickup date is today and that it'll hold the item til sat. but i have yet to hear from them
Anyone have any idea how long it usually take them?
-
Ah, you anticipated my pizza plan.. that was supposed to be a surprise.
Yeah, I think it's an aesthetic thing.. for a cheap sleeve, at $20 or maybe even 25-30 I'm willing to find out, but 40, I don't know, feels like they should ship it with a cigarette to smoke afterwards. -
I ordered mine a couple weeks ago around 11:00AM and got an email around 5:30PM to go pick it up. It all depends really. The only other time I ordered to pick up was the Jaws Book Cover Bluray because I heard they were selling out quickly and were on sale. That only took a couple hours before I got the email.
EDIT: Not to mention they are probably waiting on delivery for yours, so they have to wait until they get it and then fulfill the order. -
Just ordered the i7/8g/256gb orange version of this laptop. I got 11/12 as the ship date. They've pushed it back to make sure there is a fix out before the laptop ships. That's what the sales person told me that he got this information from some higher up.
-
So the touchpad is decent (it seems a bit smaller and I hadn't had much luck with PC touchpads)? Now the only question is if I should go with orange or silver color?
-
A "fix out" for everyone or only the delayed laptops?
-
It won't matter (assuming that rep had any idea of what he was saying). I am 99% sure it will be software so it will be a fix that is pushed but even if it is hardware they would have to take every one in the field back and fix or replace them.
-
A fix for what? The yellow color or something else?
Also I find it interesting that you ordered today with an 11/12 ship date. I ordered mine (same version as yours) a week ago and have an 11/14 ship date..... -
From the Lenovo employee/administrator on the lenovo support forum...
All,
I'll check to see if we have progress on Monday.
Realistically, any update (generically speaking) to BIOS or power management is going to take about 2 weeks at minimum. This considers the whole span of validating the symptoms at various levels, making iterative changes, doing regression testing (depending on what changes are made) to ensure other things aren't broken, packaging the release and then publishing to the web.
Thanks for your understanding

Looks like a software update not hardware (expected) and also looks like it is going to take a while. The good news is it looks like they will indeed have a fix.
The battery life, when it has somewhat good colors will be a huge determining factor for me. So for now, that means I am taking mine back and will wait for the fix to come out, at some point. I don't want to lose my return window and this fix will be later than that. I also am interested in 4 things:
1.) How good the fix will improve yellow as well as the other colors. (from looking at max performance setting it might be ok)
2.)What affect that will have on battery life compared to other devices out there.
3.)Because I see this is a QC issue (as the ATIV 9 looks way better with the same panel out of the box) what other QC issues might there be. I would rather wait a bit and see if any pop up over the next couple months.
4.)Now that Lenovo opened the door to me actually buying the Surface 2 which I had no intention of doing, I am actually going to try it out for the next couple weeks. After being completely sold on getting Yoga 2 for many months, I completely dismissed the surface, not ever thinking about giving it a chance. But because of such an easily avoidable color correctness issue, Lenovo essentially dared me to try other devices and opened the door to the competition. -
Argh. Best buy said I could pick up today and now it won't even be here until the 31st!
-
Sounds like a dumb question, but I've never ordered a laptop online before. Does the Yoga 2 Pro on Lenovo's website ship with a power adapter by default or do I have to order one of those as well?
-
I was suppose to pick mine up today too but have yet heard anything. How were you able to find out about your oct.31 pick up date? -
Looks like my delivery date online changed from Nov 5 to Nov 21 for my Yoga. I just chatted with a Lenovo rep who told me that it is a web error and that I should receive the unit between 2-5 business days of the original ship date when I bought it. I hope that's true!
-
One thing is driving me nuts that no one has mentioned is that my Y2P is not level. The front right side of the laptop is raised of the surface a little so that every time I touch it it pushes down.
-
Yes it does
I woulda said just "yes" but this forum made me type more letters
-
Just wanted to give an update. I know a lot of you are not considering surface, as I was not either, but given the quality control issues I am now considering it. I have returned the yoga to BB and picked up the surface.
Look at this yellow, it might actually be better than my desktop! And my desktop monitor is 2560x1600.
And here is the previous comparison to yoga vs desktop.

Wow, what a difference. I thought I would not like the smaller screen, but surprisingly I do. I am still able to function as a laptop but the tablet mode is definitely better on the surface. The quality of this device leaves nothing to chance, I have even remote desktop'd into my pc and it works flawlessly without lag.
MS might be onto something with the surface. Also it was on all day at work 10 hours and I still have a little less than half the battery left. I was not using it nonstop but since I just got it I used it quite a bit. It's Friday, what can I say

I can't for the life of me figure out why the Hyper-V option is missing in "Programs & Features". I enabled virtualization in the BIOS, and it still doesn't show up.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get Hyper-V installed on the Y2P? -
Unless you bought the 512 model it's not windows 8 pro.
-
Same here. After a few minutes of use it just randomly disconnects. I have another mouse connected (USB wireless) so I just starting using that one instead of pulling my hair out to get the bluetooth one to work. A few minutes later it starts working again. Very frustrating. -
If your main issue is touchpad then don't buy the Yoga. Some people say the touchpad on the Yoga is excellent but these people haven't used a MBP or MBA. The trackpad between the Macbooks and Yogas is 100% night and day. I find myself always using a mouse now. Always.
-
I've tried to do the max power thing and all I get is 3 hours of use on a full charge (instead of 4) and still green puke instead of yellow.
-
Take it back, it's warped...that's a problem with a lot of ultrabooks and some slip through.
-
one more time.
1. Go to System, device manager
2. Under Bluetooth, for the INTEL(R) WIreless Bluetooth, right click properties, go to power management and uncheck "Allow computer to turn off device to save power"
3, Under Universal Serial Bus controllers, right click on Generic USB hub, click properties, go to power management and uncheck "Allow computer to turn off device to save power" -
Of course, anybody can make a good 1920x1080 display. The problem seems to be in making a good AFFORDABLE 3200x1800 display.heisenberg420 likes this.
-
Well that's kind of my point. Did these manufacturers make an overkill res that doesn't work?I would gladly sacrifice some res for some color.mrkalel likes this.
-
We can all blame Toshiba who started this mess..nobody needs 3200x1800 but everybody wants it because it's there for the taking.
-
Wow ... you guys can't be serious, you returned the laptop because of how it renders yellow?
-
Hyper-V is only a Pro or Enterprise feature, you can pay $99 to upgrade to Pro without re-installing (add features)
-
the touchpad is the best I have used on a PC, and I had a 2012 Macbook Air and a Macbook Pro ... it's the keyboard on the Yoga that is POS, tiny right shift and backspace keys and almost no travel on the keys.
I am waiting on the Thinkpad Yoga to be released -
Ordered a Core i7/256gb/8gb in Orange the morning the pre-order went up, and just got an email that my shipping date just jumped another 2 weeks to 11/13...anyone else? Geez...
-
U must be new here
I'm spoiled by the resolution on the yoga 2. No idea how people can go back to 1080p, which is like half the resolution of the y2p, just for truer yellows. Mind = blown -
So I got a Yoga 2 yesterday from BB and having been a (ultra) regular reader of this thread, I already knew of most issues. I am pretty sure I can live with those. A couple of things I wanted to get your thoughts on:
1. Yes, there is a light bleed from the bottom side of the screen. Is this fixable thru an update? Stupid question and my thought is no but wanted to ask.
2. When I plugged in, there's a minor rattling kind of noise coming from the unit. I am assuming it's something to do with the battery. I tried multiple outlets to be sure. Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks.
P.S: I do think that Yoga 2 is a wonderful laptop and a keeper but I can't help but think that Lenovo has some serious quality assurance issues. Some of these (yellow, bleeding etc.) should be too simple to go thru unchecked given the time they had all year. The world would have been upside down if MBA had similar issues.ferrydust likes this. -
Hey all, new to this thread but I've been reading it for a few days. I've got an i7/256/8 Yoga 2 Pro from Best Buy and, of course, notice the same issues with the screen that everyone else does. However, one thing I haven't seen anybody mention is darkness/brightness fade towards the TOP of the screen. It's almost like a faint drop shadow across the top of the screen, and it doesn't matter which angle it's viewed from. It's equally noticeable when the laptop is in tablet mode and rotated 90 degrees. To me, this is way more annoying than the color bleed at the bottom of the screen (which is only noticeable when the screen is black).
Has anybody else noticed this, or is it just my unit? -
No it's not fixable, it's just a byproduct of most(but not all) modern ultrabooks. In fact I don't think ASUS has put any model ultrabook out without light bleed in over two years.
